Mercer pressed the attack, driving his vibroblade toward the creature’s chest. But once again, the shimmering telekinetic barrier flared to life, deflecting the blow. The creature barely reacted, its glowing green eyes locked onto him with an eerie stillness.
OOC:
Considering another one of Mercer’s shock damage and (now) also Corbin's Gunslinger...
Before it could counter, Corbin took careful aim and fired. The laser blast struck true, burning into the creature’s blackened flesh. Just like the first one, it didn’t fall—it dissolved. The dark, oily substance that made up its form lost cohesion, breaking apart into nothingness as if it had never existed.

The corridor was silent once more.
OOC:
End of combat (for now). What do you do?

"Let's shut that door and catch up with the others."
Mar 12, 2025 3:16 pm
Mercer nods and heads to get the door closed and continue searching.
Mar 12, 2025 3:46 pm
Now that the immediate threat is over, Hank has them come through the second door and closes it. We can now go ahead and search this area.

"Corbin, I found so tablets that might have some information. Wanna give a few a try yourself?" With that he offers some to Corbin. "Erin, can you cover my while I grab the rest of the tablets?"

Hank will then go back and get the rest of the tablets. If we search this area, Hank will try to hack some of the tablets. If not, it'll have to wait while we move on. Obviously, they will give the room a once over before he focuses on getting the rest of the tablets.

Now that he's seen it happen twice, Douklan suspects that they're not dealing with monsters of flesh and blood. "Okay, let's get going before they reform and attack again!" He steps through the doors closest to Hank and the others and waits for Corbin and Mercer to catch up before sealing the doors.
Mar 12, 2025 10:24 pm
Once we are all together again, "Just thinking, but we appear to be in a residential area right now. It is likely we will not find the parts we need here. We have these tablets to check, but we probably aren't finding any information on them here, either. We can probably be less thorough as we clear out of this area until we can get to the next area."

Corbin takes some of the tablets Hank is offering. He's willing to see what, if anything, they have to offer.

[SWN] Corbin McRogers: Program - (2d6+2)

(24) + 2 = 8

Mercer and Douklan had sealed the doors behind them, cutting off the hallway where they had fought the creatures—Ryan Carters, or whatever they had become.

The rest of them moved into the lounge, a space once meant for the crew’s leisure, now silent and littered with signs of damage. Hank sat at a table, flipping through the files while Corbin and Maya powered up a few more tablets. Erin stood by, rifle in hand, keeping watch.

With Hank's help, a progress bar flickered across Corbin screen as he bypassed the tablet’s security. When the files opened, his face hardened.

PERSONAL LOG: DR. LIN ZHAO

Samuel, I don’t like the shortcuts we’re taking. The human trials should have been double-blinded, controlled, and contained. Instead, we’re cutting corners. The last batch of subjects showed neurological anomalies. One of them—Subject 12—exhibited increased cognitive function and what can only be described as mild telekinetic abilities. I refuse to move forward unless we analyze the long-term effects.

Maya exhaled sharply. "Looks like they were messing with combat drugs. Testing on live subjects."

ENCRYPTED MESSAGE – NAVIGATOR EMIL ROURKE
TO: UNKNOWN RECIPIENT

I’ve sent the latest batch of reports. The research is on the verge of something major. If the company really wants to delay things, we need to act fast. I’ve set up the ‘distraction’ in the auxiliary lab. It’ll look like an accident. Transfer the remaining credits to my Verdura account, and we’re done.

BEGIN AUTOMATED LOG
02:46:32 – Auxiliary Laboratory: Restricted access confirmed. No personnel detected inside.

02:46:45 – Unidentified power surge detected in secondary workstations. Cause unknown.

02:47:10 – Sudden increase in atmospheric pressure detected within laboratory. Possible source: unauthorized chemical reaction.

02:47:21 – Explosive event detected. Shockwave exceeds expected parameters for accidental detonation.

02:47:23 – Lab containment breached. Chemical storage compromised.

02:47:30 – Biohazard protocols triggered. Automated bulkheads initiate lockdown.

02:47:35 – Power fluctuations in environmental controls. Life support stabilizers compensating.

02:47:42 – First fatality detected: Crewman Patel (Maintenance). Heart rate ceased abruptly.

02:48:12 – Multiple fatalities detected. 81% of crew unresponsive.Probable cause: Sudden asphyxiation and systemic failure.Remaining personnel exhibiting irregular neural activity.

02:48:45 – Security override attempt detected. Manual override by Navigator Emil Rourke unsuccessful.

02:49:30 – Security breach: Internal monitoring systems disrupted. Data corruption detected in logs. Data protection disabled.

02:49:32 - [CORRUPTED DATA]

02:50:00 – Last recorded log entry before central server and AI's primary systems failure: "Subject Twelve exhibiting movement despite recorded expiration at 02:47. Neural scans abnormal. Tissue composition… changing. Warning: unknown biological and spatial anomalies detected. Cloned genetic material stored in Library / Cryo-Storage C was exposed. Status of subjects unknown."

02:50:05 – [DATA STREAM INTERRUPTED]

Distress signal from an unidentified crew member: "They're not dying. My God… they’re—"

END OF LOG

Maya rubbed her temples. "So we’re dealing with psychic clones with god-knows-what kind of body modifications. Wonderful."

A distant metallic clang echoed from the bulkheads they had sealed. A sound of something shifting. Moving.

"We need to keep moving," Erin said, her tone leaving no room for argument.

Hank flipped through the last files as they packed up. A final item caught his attention: a map that was not deleted by the central server data purge!

Highlights (in yellow):
- The auxiliary lab where the explosion occurred.
- A medical facility
- An unexpected library/training area that is marked as the destination of cloning equipment

The blue arrow shows you the best way towards the next section.
Hank motioned for Maya, Corbin and Erin to stay close as he took the lead out of the lounge. Soon enough they were all reunited again with Douklan and Mercer.

"Let's move on from here and try the next section. I think we are done here."

Hank will keep a tablet or two with the relevant information on them. Does the map extend past this area?

I believe the parts we need was in so.e sort of lab? Let's check out this Medical room, and that storage. For anything useful real fast, it if nothing jumps out, I agree we need to keep moving.

OOC:
Does this mean that Mercer and Douklan were doing something else somewhere else while everyone else was looking through the logs in the Lounge? We stayed by the doors?
Mar 14, 2025 5:37 pm
OOC:
I would have been gone only as long as it took to secure the doors..
OOC:
Checking the medical room and storage is mostly for any grav sleds or parts, other than that I can't think of any reason to longer now.

Yup. You stayed locking and securing the doors. The lounge is near it, by the way, so you were never really separated.

Quick question: is Mercer's suit OK? He took, damage and I want to make sure it's integrity is still maintained, especially as we turned off life support and we're still not sure what is floating in the air.

Mercer stepped into the Medical Room, sweeping his rifle across the dimly lit space. The room was eerily silent, save for the occasional flicker of a malfunctioning overhead light. The once-pristine medical bay was in complete disarray—shelves overturned, supplies scattered across the floor, and old bloodstains smeared along the walls and countertops.

His eyes scanned for anything useful. Most of the pharmaceuticals had been looted or destroyed, but a few intact cases remained. He crouched near an open cabinet, rummaging through the debris with gloved hands until his fingers closed around a set of small, labeled injectors. Five doses of Lift. Two of Tsunami.

He held them up. "Got something," he called over his shoulder.

Maya, who had been standing near the entrance, stepped forward, her expression unreadable behind her helmet’s visor. "Lift will help stabilize your injuries. It’ll push your system hard, but it’ll keep you in the fight," she said, already reaching for one of the injectors. "Do you want me to apply one?"

Yup. It doesn't include real-time updates or sensor data, but I will always show you all rooms from now on.

No, I don't think we're at that point yet. Let's keep them though.
