"That was a rather harrowing experience... I have to say it is nothing like I have read about before. Maybe we can find someone in the town who has more knowledge about it. Maybe I should have checked it for magical disturbances.", says Tomlin.

The family explain that their transport was attacked by shambling figures not an hour since. The young girl, Virelda, explains that she thought they may have been zombies so her and her brother Tobas and little sister Jenna, hid in a secret compartment in the caravan until such time as they were sure you were not bandits, then crept out.

Hosford is keen to keep moving to Candlefen. "We can take these children with us. The town elders will provide better hands for these babes to be held by than anything which lurks in the night in Dragon Wood."

She harnesses two Marsh Drakes to the harnesses on the caravan, looks you all up and down and asks: "So what say you all, do we go onwards?"

Jack finished his apple, and tossed the core to one of the unleashed cattle lizards. The thing snapped it up eagerly, and Jack gave a delighted grin before looking back to the trio of young carriage owners. "Kids, keep your distance from our flock. They seem preeeeetty famished."

"Ever forwards," he replied lackadaisically over one shoulder to Hosford. He was facing only Ygne, and he drew his cloak open just enough to show a second apple tucked within.

"Any'un else think that fog smelled off?" Ygne pondered, sniffing a bit. Perhaps there'd be something wrong about it that had them turned around repeatedly. When she spotted the second apple that Jack had stolen, her eyes lit up and she beamed, quickly forgetting any worries about the fog. She gave him a quick, affirming nod, none too subtly, before she addressed the kids, "Anythin' happens, an' you just stick near me, young'uns! I'm usually Ygne the Wicked, but.. today I'll be Ygne the Heroic and see you to a new home!"

She began to march beside the carriage, idly chatting, "It'll be great. New home, new food to try, new parents; You'll love it!"

Pleased with the outcome, Robon agreed to push forward with the rest. This is a worthwhile outcome, but we must keep our guard up. The additional carriage could be good help, and surely the journey can't be too perilous to their destination if that family had also made the trip.

As your curious ramshackle group of travellers continues into the Dragon Wood, the road becomes progressively worse and more difficult to traverse. As night falls, you hear the sound of a stream up ahead which grows louder with every step you take. As you round a bend in the road you become aware of a small, ramshackle bridge over the stream.

While this catches your attention, it doesn't grab it as much as the sight of an eerie glowing face, lit by a lantern held out at arms length - there is someone on the bridge, and not just one person. Behind the lantern bearer stand two shambling figures, although from the distance you stand they are merely shadows.

A wispy female voice breaks the awkward silence - "Good evening. To where do you travel? Maybe we can accompany you if our paths point in the same direction".

The scene is pretty, and Robon enjoys it immensely, but the aged woman that has addressed the group is hard to look away from. In this case though, rather than speak, Robon defers to the others around, and looks expectantly at Hosford.

Milo takes a few steps forward ahead of the group to address the woman. "Of course, we head to Candlefen. If you are stuck in this wood, then we do not mind you coming along."
OOC:
I'd like to make a spot check to see what the shambling shadows are. How do I do that?

Throughout this difficult leg of the journey, Jack keeps to the fringes of the makeshift convoy. Occasionally he walks parallel to it while off the path, or volunteers to scout ahead when the going is particularly slow, at the present junction, he trails a few meters behind the carriage, holding a torch aloft in one hand, and rolling a coin along his fingers with the other.

The sudden stop accentuated by an unfamiliar voice means that Jack's free hand stashes the coin and moves to grip the hilt of a dagger holstered against the small of his back. He leaves he talking to others, but steps forward enough to hear it.

OOC:
One possibility is to give me a skill check using your criminal background. You may be able to determine from their look or demeanour whether they are criminals or not.

Ygne strides up next to Milo, shoving her left forearm through the straps of her makeshift shield and getting a firm grip on her spear. She calls out after Milo's address, "Except we would mind! We're in bandit 'fested woods, so we don't offer rides t' strangers!" Ygne makes a face, points at the children and says, "Except those strangers!" She then drives the tip of her spear in the ground and shouts, "So get outta th' way 'fore you catch a beating!"

Jack's eyes widened as Ygne brashly confronted the people on the bridge, and his danger-sense took the reigns. He dropped the torch he'd been carrying into the thick mud, and then stepped backwards into the darkness, seeking to be lost amongst the shadows and trees.

again I don't actually know what to roll.

Milo surveys the woman, holding his hand out with his palm facing Ygne, "Lets not be too hasty." he says to his companions cooly.

Ygne grins, pointing her spear toward the bridge, "I'm always too hasty."

Rather than detect criminality, you detect an awkward nature to the ladies two companions. Criminals would never be this lacking in confidence or style. One of the ladies companions appears to be shuffling it's feet in a strange little nervous dance while the other shrugs it's shoulders continuously, despite no question apparently being asked of it.
Oct 12, 2016 10:02 pm
Milo, not wanting to assume the worst in them, takes a few more steps forward. "Are you two nervous? Or perhaps sick?" He keeps a wary eye on them, but still says "I may be able to help you."

The group assembled makes Milo hesitate a bit, and Robon seeing this, immediate;y falls back into his old habits as a guard. His focus now is as much on the group of strangers as it is to the amount of space between them and the party of travelers Candlefen. As well, Robin moves, as inconspicuously as possible to place himself relatively close to Milo, but as an obstacle for any line of sight between the travelers and the group of strangers.
OOC:
Going to make use of the sentry, or bodyguard background (it's the same bonus) to make a sort of perception check to try and get a read on this group of strangers. Body language, concealed weapons, things like that.

Perception, survey the area (listening, smelling, looking) - (1d20+4)

They don't smell so good and by really straining your eyes, you'd swear they were slightly past their sell-by date.
