Kiraen pushed against the heavy oak door of
Bow’s End Tavern, only to find it didn’t budge. She frowned, her hand brushing over the intricate star motifs carved into the wood. The door was locked. Her silver brows furrowed slightly, and she rapped her knuckles against the door, the sound echoing faintly in the air.
After a moment, the sound of shuffling footsteps grew closer, accompanied by the faint creak of floorboards. The door cracked open, and a broad-faced human man in a plain linen shirt peered out, a broom slung over one shoulder. His expression shifted from irritation to mild curiosity as he took in Kiraen’s unusual appearance—silver hair, dusky skin, and an air of quiet confidence.
"
We’re closed," the man said, his voice rough but not unkind. "
Come back tonight."
Kiraen tilted her sunglasses slightly, revealing her sharp eyes. "
I’m looking for Tulk Tusktooth. I’m supposed to meet him about a job," she said, her tone polite but firm.
The man blinked, then shrugged. "
Hold on." He shut the door, leaving Kiraen standing outside for a moment before the sound of bolts being unlocked reached her ears. The door swung open wider, and the cleaner stepped aside to let her in.
"
C’mon, then," he said. "
Tulk’s inside, probably barking orders like usual."
Kiraen stepped through the doorway, her boots clicking softly against the polished mahogany floors. The tavern was dimly lit, the magical lights casting a muted glow over the space. The furniture was scattered haphazardly, chairs overturned and tables smeared with the remnants of the night’s revelry. The scent of spilled ale and lingering spices hung in the air, mingling with the faint aroma of an unknown cleaning solution.
The man gestured toward the bar area, where a hulking orc with golden earrings and a commanding presence was directing two other staff members as they stacked chairs.
Tulk "The Bulk" Tusktooth spotted her immediately, his warm smile a striking contrast to his imposing figure.
"
Well, now," Tulk said, his deep voice carrying easily across the room. "
How can I help you?"
