Just 1d8. You will be able to combine multiple traits of different types to have more dice with gear and special abilities in some situations, but typically you will just roll 2-3 dice: the attribute + one of your skills + a distinction (if applicable).

I have edited your charsheet to include that and I am removing the "Do Anything" trait.

Kira says:
Zinzay Thauber* was pleased with my blade work and agility.
Gimme an Insight check for Kira please. If she is usually not good at reading people, add this trait as D4. If she unusually good at that, add it at D8. If neither, gimme a D6. Either way, you are a sheltered princess, so your distinction applies here.

Roll 1d8 (Social) + Insight (D8, D6 or D4, see above) + Sheltered Princess (D4)

Rolls

Difficulty - (2d6)

(31) = 4

I think Insight is a survival traint in drow courts, so that is a d8 skill

EDIT: shiiiit, on the plus side, we get to discuss extream die rolls

Greta Ironhart
OOC:
Interesting roll!

So, first, I rolled a 1. When the GM does this, it's called an opportunity. Regardless of the result, you will have a minor bonus or beneficial story twist.

In that case, I will write that Greta has useful information about Zinzay Thauber and would be willing to tell you.
Greta flinched visibly at the mention of Zinzay Thauber, her grin faltering for the briefest of moments. She quickly covered it with a sip from her drink, but the reaction didn’t escape her own notice. The name carried weight—dark and heavy. Zinzay Thauber had once been a feared assassin, a name whispered in both awe and terror. He’d killed one of Misthaven’s most celebrated duelists years ago, a tragedy that still echoed through the academy’s lore.
OOC:
But you rolled a double Hitch! That's a major complication that will cancel the opportunity above and even more.
Kira, however, didn’t seem to notice Greta’s discomfort. She stood up, adjusting her sunglasses and brushing a stray strand of silver hair from her face. "Well, I think I’ll head to Bow’s End," she said lightly, her tone carrying a note of excitement. "Might as well get a feel for the place if I’m going to work there. Thanks for the tips, Greta. I’ll see you around."

She turned and strode off, her confident steps echoing in the quiet hall. Greta watched her go, debating whether to say something—anything—but words failed her.
OOC:
So the actual test result: I rolled a 3 (we can't use hitches) but you rolled a 5. At the end of the day, you succeeded.
As Kira made her way toward Bow’s End, the excitement of exploring the campus and its opportunities kept her steps light. But as she walked, a memory of Greta’s expression surfaced—just a flicker of something, a hesitation, a crack in her usual confident demeanor.

She slowed her pace, frowning slightly. Was it something I said? she wondered, replaying their conversation. Greta had been fine up until she mentioned Zinzay Thauber. Kira stopped mid-stride, her sharp mind piecing the moment together. Greta had flinched, her smile faltering for just a second before she hid it behind her drink.
OOC:

Kiraen continues to Bow’s End. Greta is a nice girl - for a dwarf, but her hesitations cant dictate my life. But I should properly refrain form name-dropping anyone else from my past.
"Past" She muses to herself. The drow palace is behind her, the inn is in from of her, and she is in the middle of a magic school.

Lets the past be in the past!
With these words she push open the door.
Jan 9, 2025 12:14 am
Kiraen pushed against the heavy oak door of Bow’s End Tavern, only to find it didn’t budge. She frowned, her hand brushing over the intricate star motifs carved into the wood. The door was locked. Her silver brows furrowed slightly, and she rapped her knuckles against the door, the sound echoing faintly in the air.

After a moment, the sound of shuffling footsteps grew closer, accompanied by the faint creak of floorboards. The door cracked open, and a broad-faced human man in a plain linen shirt peered out, a broom slung over one shoulder. His expression shifted from irritation to mild curiosity as he took in Kiraen’s unusual appearance—silver hair, dusky skin, and an air of quiet confidence.

"We’re closed," the man said, his voice rough but not unkind. "Come back tonight."

Kiraen tilted her sunglasses slightly, revealing her sharp eyes. "I’m looking for Tulk Tusktooth. I’m supposed to meet him about a job," she said, her tone polite but firm.

The man blinked, then shrugged. "Hold on." He shut the door, leaving Kiraen standing outside for a moment before the sound of bolts being unlocked reached her ears. The door swung open wider, and the cleaner stepped aside to let her in.

"C’mon, then," he said. "Tulk’s inside, probably barking orders like usual."

Kiraen stepped through the doorway, her boots clicking softly against the polished mahogany floors. The tavern was dimly lit, the magical lights casting a muted glow over the space. The furniture was scattered haphazardly, chairs overturned and tables smeared with the remnants of the night’s revelry. The scent of spilled ale and lingering spices hung in the air, mingling with the faint aroma of an unknown cleaning solution.

The man gestured toward the bar area, where a hulking orc with golden earrings and a commanding presence was directing two other staff members as they stacked chairs. Tulk "The Bulk" Tusktooth spotted her immediately, his warm smile a striking contrast to his imposing figure.

I'm a new student here and will be starting in a few weeks. I'm looking for a part time job next to my studies. Both my father and Greta Ironhart recomended this place. My father was a student here long ago. Caldan Marrickn.
There is a safe name without baggage.
I must admit that I have no experince, with the duties of an inn, but I am here to learn

Tulk leaned back against the bar, crossing his massive arms as he studied Kiraen with a thoughtful expression. His golden earring swayed slightly as he cocked his head.

"Tavern." - he corrected - "Thank the gods nobody sleeps here. What's your name?"

"I'm Kiraen Nyrazzrin" - she answers.

"All right, Kiraen," he began, his voice even but probing, "let’s get right to it. Tell me one quality you’ve got that’ll make you a good fit here at Bow’s End."

He leaned forward slightly, resting his hands on the bar. "And then tell me about the other side of the coin. A defect. Something you need to work on."
OOC:
And OOC, please tell us between two to five skills at D4 and a new one at D8. We will choose more D8s later, depending on how many D4s you have. Here is a sample list to help you, but feel free to choose something else if it makes sense for Kiraen:

✦ Brute Force (Physical)
✦ Melee Combat (Physical)
✦ Stamina (Physical)
✦ Marksmanship (Physical)
✦ Mobility (Physical)
✦ Stealth (Physical)
✦ Crafting (Mental)
✦ Observation (Mental)
✦ Survival (Mental)
✦ Lore (Mental)
✦ Healing (Mental)
✦ Willpower (Mental)
✦ Insight (Social)
✦ Persuasion (Social)
✦ Deceive (Social)
✦ Leadership (Social)

D4 skill - Untrained. You have no idea what you’re doing, and you’re likely to create trouble when you try it, but who knows.

If you have any questions about it, don't hesitate to ask. =)

Also, your response doesn't need to be the same as Kiraen's. She can sugarcoat it or talk about something else, not skills. =D

Yup. I am boosting Social, actually, by doing that. If you have leadership, willpower, persuasion, deceive and insight, you are pretty good at it all. You also won't have a lot of points elsewhere by dropping them. =)

Please don't ask me to put broken things back together again (Crafting) or people (Healing )
Moving in a crowded room have I done plenty of times (Mobility)

"Interesting..." He straightened up, gesturing broadly to the tavern. "This place isn’t just about serving drinks and food. It’s about handling people, keeping the energy lively but not out of control. Think you’re up for that?"
OOC:
Please roll Social (D8), Persuasion (D6) to convince him that you can handle that... Or Deceive (D6) =D
[ +- ] Optional skill adjustment
Lastly, I don't think your distinctions apply here, but what do you think?

OOC:
I have also updated your character sheet to use the lastest template. Feels much easier, I guess, to fill it in with the skill list there. Most times, you can also single click to add a skill roll, as it includes the usual attribute.

Thank you mister Tusktooth
She leaves the tavern, feeling that the interview didn't go as well as it could. Perhaps she should check out the libary. Greta had her views on the librarians, but that could just be her perspective. Kiraen will go there - after checking out the dueiling club!
OOC:
I'm liking the idea that she doesn't get the tavern job right away, and in some way disappoints her father. This will be an issue that she can return to at a later date
Kiraens walk has become more determined. The gravel path she is treading right this second, doesn't feel alien to her anymore. There is still a lot she doesn't know or understand, but the seed of belonging is starting to grow.

This is now a purely Out of Character thread. In-character posts have been moved elsewhere. No need to tag everything with OOC from now on

Let's continue with the mechanical parts of character generation in here. Our next step is:

A. Choose something else to add at D10. It can be a skill specialization of one of your D8s (like your Daggers one). It can also be an extra ability/not listed skill (Lion Tamer D10), special power (Darkvision D10) or gear (Heirloom sword D10). Some of those D10s will be used in addition to the regular skills, depending on the situation. Write it down in the "Other traits" section or as another line in the skills list.

or

B. You can already start as a spellcaster. If so, which of the 8 schools available here and listed in the "Magic" section of your character sheet does Kiraen have the most affinity with? You will start this school with a D6 ability, rank 1 and a base skill of D6. You should also choose two secondary schools of magic to start the game as a D4. For now, if you choose this, your character won't be able to cast spells from other schools (but you may learn them as a D4 in the University)
Jan 14, 2025 8:06 pm
I have also moved your old distinctions to the Notes sections. We think that it will work better if this game have dice mechanics just for your Pride: something very personal your character takes great pride in—an ability, a defining event, or something similar.

Please fill in Kiraen's Pride (as explained above), her Problem (something like: "Sheltered drow princess" that will mainly affect roleplay) and at least one of her goals

She takes pride in her relentlessness, how she will not abandoned a goal she has set her self.
She will get a job. She will work in the tavern as her father suggesee, but not right now

Her problem is definitely her sheltered upbringing

I want something that connect her to magic use, she is on a magic university afterall.
I was thinking that she was gifted a stiletto dagger / metal wand from the drow queen. I was thinking it would aid in some magic, but often the wrong tool. Like using a flamethrower to light a candle or a gun as a hole punch. At some point it would be discovered that the sheath, not wand, is also enchanted to be a scrying focus, so the drow can keep taps on her.

OOC:
What do you think?
Oh by the way, her hand was searching for the stiletto or just her favorite dagger that is usually strapped to her thigh in this scene. Just a quirk that I could return to from time to time.

Sounds good. But there are 3 ways to handle it:

1. It's just for flavor, you are a spellcaster already and it has no mechanical benefits. Add it in the Notes section and roleplay the use of it. In that case, you can go with option B. We will continue character generation.

2. You are a spellcaster and the wand really helps. You go with option B, and can receive an extra D6 (not D10) when you are casting a specific spell... Like summoning fire (or shadow, or cold... choose one).

3. You are not a spellcaster but the wand can let anyone cast a specific spell, like Darkness for example, granting an extra D10 in a mundane roll, like Stealth (Physical), using the example above. This is option A and you will learn spellcasting in the University.
Jan 15, 2025 4:28 pm
I'll go with option 1 and RP that its the ward that is giving her the ability to do some combat magic (destroy/protect d4) and some illusionary magic (d6)

A long-term goal would be learning to do magic with out the crutch of the wand. I also thought of some more mundane as getting her first kiss 😘
