The world as we’d known it could only take so many madmen in positions of power. So it got nuked.

Sucks, yeah. But the survivors of Scorched Earth adapted. And some of the women even mutated into mermaids and fairies. That was kinda cute.

Some of the men had undergone mutations as well. Different kinds, not to say that the cosmetic changes were really the problem. Scorched Earth had a power vacuum to fill.

The Mullet Hellions took that as an invitation to track their bloody bootprints all over the world stage…

Sometime in the 2990’s…

Lacey O’Hara’s had her share of run-ins with Neo Hampshire’s worst. She’s seen the fates of men who dared to rescue her… some beaten to death, others eaten alive.

Now, as a survivor of Mullet Hell and leader of the Bombshells, Miss O’Hara and her squad intend to make predators their prey.

And wouldn’t you know it? Her Shoe Phone’s ringing! Looks like that cat at the gizmo shop didn’t rip her off after all.

"Hello? Is this the right number?"

There’s a pause, but the old crone doesn’t leave time to answer.

"Forget I asked. I ain’t got time for that shit. My granddaughter’s gone missing, and I’m afraid she’s out of reach of my magic detection.

"She’s gone… south."

You know what’s south of Neo Hampshire. It’s the Massholes. It’s the part of Olde New England that got hit the hardest. The whole state’s nothing but craters and the serpentine trails around them, from the Field o’Pits to the sunken city of Buzzard’s Bottom, there ain’t no place in that hundred-sixty mile stretch for a magical old lady’s granddaughter.

Massholes. Lacey lets out a noise that's a combination of a grunt and sigh as she ponders the situation. She would've preferred the Bombshells take on smaller tasks to start with, and confidently level up their badassery. But it looks like they were jumping into the deep end right off the bat....

Or maybe she was being a wimp, and she should embrace this opportunity with (toned-but-still-svelte) open arms.

"This is definitely a mission for the Bomshells...uh...person who I may or may not know? Who are you, exactly? And if you have magic, do you have any spells that'll assist us?"

"And your granddaughter...describe her, please. Any known unsavory acquaintances? Perhaps [grinds teeth] men with mullets?"

Lacey then pauses, and asks in a sweet, totally-not-accusatory tone: "And how do you know she's gone south? I thought you said your magic detection lost her?"

Just off to the side, Murasaki leans against a wall, arms crossed as she exudes a contemplative air. When the ringing of Lacey's Shoe Phone pulls her from her thoughts, she glances over curiously. She always keeps her eyes closed, except for the third eye resting upon her forehead, unblinkingly taking note of her surroundings. It's unclear whether it comes from enlightenment or mutation, but either way, it's unusual but not overly so, considering what the radiation has done to others.

She walks over to her leader and leans in uncomfortably close in order to listen to the call. "I believe our caller lost her along the way, O'hara-san. Thus, she knows her granddaughter went south, but cannot determine her exact location," she suggests. Then she asks the crone a question of her own. "Would your granddaughter have any reason to go south?"

The Crone

The Crone responds to Murasaki’s explanation: "Yes, I was able to sense her energy. Her light is not as strong as her Mother’s, but her purity… I traced her movement from Diana’s Bath, down the Kancamagus, through the city of Conquered."

As you all know, Conquered was the capital of Neo Hampshire before it was conquered. Now the capital is Puffchester, also a city conquered by the Mullet Hellions.

The Kancamagus, in contrast, is lush and green. The land has somehow thrived, and sightings of mulletted men in the wilderness are few and far between.

"I can’t imagine The Maiden would have any business in a big city like Conquered. If she traveled to The Massholes by choice, her ambitions are too grand. And if she was taken…"

The old lady shudders at the thought.

Though perhaps Lacey knows that whatever horrible plans the men have for a young, pretty prisoner, evil men usually procrastinate. As long as there’s a rescue in progress, this pure-maiden grandkid’ll be fine.

Realizing The Crone was asked for her name, the old lady apologizes to Lacey, "Forgive me. I thought all of the oldfangled technology came with Caller ID. I am simply The Crone." The name matches the red letters displayed on Lacey’s Shoe Phone. "My granddaughter is The Maiden. Platinum blonde, usually clad in a green dress and tiara. Barefoot."

Which explains why The Crone didn’t call.

"I’m afraid I don’t have any spells to assist you. But my daughter’s an aviatrix. Got herself a steamplane at the Puffchester Airport. If you meet her there… perhaps it won’t be too late."

"This is a noble quest, to find the missing Maiden," Gong-ju says, cradling her mystical trident in her hands. Even on land, her flowing purple hair floats about her head as if she was underwater, and a briny ocean scent follows wherever she goes. "I say we accept the challenge!"

"I always wondered how a steamplane flies, since it's wings don't flap." Gemini muses, her tone dreamy, from her spot on the table.

She has her back to an old jar, placed so the light catches and reflects onto her. It gives her the look of a cat in a sunbeam when she smiles. One of her legs dangles from the table edge, kicking slightly, while the other props up her latest finger board. The design is one of her own personal tags, though she's made some changes. A few cans of spray-paint wait nearby for her to make her mind up.

"It's about attitude over altitude though, my dudettes." She spins one of the wheels on the board. "A radical way to travel."

Between a grandmother feeling there’s hope for her granddaughter, a curious skater-fairy learning how non-flapping wings work, and a mermaid finding the quest worthy, it seems everyone’s a winner…!

PUFFCHESTER AIRPORT

You arrive at the airport to meet The Mother.

Not far from a few steamplanes at the end of the runway are a couple slender ladies in red skirts and blazers, four men in black uniforms, and a pink-haired woman trying to keep them away from each other.

The Mother

"…you slapped her on the ass, so yeah it is my concern. She serves your passengers, not your desires."

A crewman shrugs off the lecture. "Give us a break, lady."

Another chimes in, "We’re just having a little fun!"

The pilot is more condescending. "It’s not like you immaculately conceived your kid, so you know how it works."

The Mother’s cheeks flush. "What do you know about my daughter?! Did you—"

The co-pilot puts a hand on her shoulder. "We don’t know shit about your kids. You got a mom bod—"

"Don’t touch me!" The Mother grabs the co-pilot’s arm, but he quickly retaliates and shoves her. She twists her ankle as she stumbles back.

The flight attendants heels clack across the tarmac as they do their best to retreat with their dignity intact.

A crewman calls to the them, "You chicks oughtta stick around. We can all be winners!"

The Pilot stands over The Mother as she limps back another step. He clenches a fist.

But while Lacey wouldn't mind inflicting coma- or paraplegic-inducing violence rightthisminute, she also has her feminine wiles. She didn't get much chance to use them while she was an eternally helpless captive, but now....

"Now, now, boys...those ladies clearly aren't interested. I know it's preposterous that...paragons of manliness such as yourselves ever get rejected, but such is life."

"Why don't you focus your efforts on someone who does appreciate your...obvious virtues?"

She adjusts her dress so she shows maximum cleavage, and plenty of thigh. She also gives them a smoldering come-hither look. Bait the trap, draw them close, then....

The pilot, copilot and crewmen all take the bait.

"Forget the milf," says the captain with the paintbrush stache. "I gotta respect a lady who knows she wants it."

The copilot glances at the other Bombshells, notably ignoring the tiny fairy. "Contortionist or bikini model?" The crewmen eagerly await his pick, then slump when he says, "I meant ‘and.’"

Now the two crewmen eye the fairy. One wonders, "How do we…?" The other cuts him off, "You watch while I figure it out!"

He whips off his hat and swings it like a butterfly net—apparently intent on keeping Gemini in it so she won’t come to her senses and fly away? But the men are too slow.

Are they that gullible? Did they underestimate the Bombshells and think they could turn the ruse to their favor? Either way, it’s time to teach these guys a lesson by beating them almost to death but not quite!

"Gentlemen, you bring shame to yourselves. I can only hope you take some time to reflect if you make it out of this." Murasaki shifts into a calm, practiced fighting stance.

Her third eye leers at the copilot, assessing him as a suitable target. She didn't know what a contortionist was, but it sounded vaguely insulting so she took it upon herself to teach him that she was so much more than that. She rushes him down and leaps, coming at him with a flying knee that's on a collision course with his nose.

The Bombshells are looking very heroic, although The Mother has a worried expression…

Lacey decides to target the captain. Taking out the leader may cause the underlings to lose heart.

Her saucy demeanor changes to rage and scorn, and she adjusts her dress to make herself slightly less sexy and more combat ready. She then spits in the direction of the jerks.

"Horny and stupid...like most men. Did you really think a bombshell like me would screw any of you? You chumps have been watching too much porn...."

She pulls out a small canister of mace from her stylish purse, and sends a stream directly into the face of the captain!

Trying to catch a fairy in a hat is totally not hesh, and so Gemini decides she will be. She's not entirely sure where her magic comes from, or if the fairy dust her wings make is safe for human interaction, but sometimes you have to go with the flow. She gathers some in her palm, sieving it a moment before bringing it to her lips.

When she blows on it she creates a small green fireball that burns a hole in the hat wide enough for her to fly right through. As she does, she turns her hat backward and gives the unfortunate crewman a wink. Maybe with that he won't notice his hat's still on fire and get a little singed.

Gemini’s attack is potentially harmless, since she only attacked the crewman’s hat. But fey trickery has rules that humans don’t quite understand. (Neither do fairies, really!) So he does put on the hat.
🔥FWUMP🔥"My precious golden mullet! AAAAAAA!!"

He runs off the tarmac, arms flailing, and stops, drops and rolls on the grass to extinguish what’s left of his hair.

His buddy doesn’t notice this spectacle, due to the limited vision of his welding mask. He lifts it and gloats about his unscathed status. "I’m invincible! Let’s see how vincible you are, your princessness!"

He attacks Gong-Ju with a flying headbutt!

Defend yourself, Murasaki! Gnash is using a special attack. The Sonic Boom is too loud and obnoxious to dodge, so the only way to avoid damage is to ㊙️BLOCK your ears!

Gemini, you also need to ㊙️BLOCK because your tiny fairy ears can’t stand such a big, loud noise!

The pilot reels back from the sting of Lacey’s mace.

"Hey, if that’s the game you wanna play, I’ll scratch that itch instead."

He moves in for a stomach punch. And that’s when Lacey remembers the first time she was slugged and carried off. Guys like this beat girls like her by stun-locking. Once forced to defend, it’s over. The attacks keep coming and there’s no chance to retaliate. Her fate is to defend until she fails to…!

"Then so be it." After taking her hands off her ears, she went for a brutal clap on the co-pilot's own ears. It was only fair that he suffered too.

Lacey's feistiness has thrown a wrench in the pilot's diabolical, patriarchal plans!

She pulls out a tube of lipstick (Crimson Whisper, the color men can't say no to), but not to freshen up her appearance. No, the tube also functions as a dart gun!

She clicks a button, and a dart whizzes towards the captain. The dart doesn't contain lethal poison, but rather a calming potion that'll make the captain want to chillax and ponder life. Well, that's what's supposed to happen...but he's so pumped up, the effects may be minimal. Being a newly emancipated woman, Lacey hasn't had much time to test out her abilities and weapons....

One of the good things about being a radical skater is there's a type of music culture that comes with it. Intending to get the whole spirit of the experience, Gemini designed tiny earphones to wear and get her rhythm while skating. She's wearing them now, and the music blots out some of the loud noises.

The downside is it can be distracting, and she doesn't think to strike back. Or maybe it's just that she's nice like that. Hard to say.

Lacey, like the combo that was attempted against you, if you combo, you can include a hindering effect as one of the hits. Normally, I’d have just nerfed his attack but a coin toss to determine whether he contemplates felt situationally-appropriate…

Captain B. Guile feels the effect of Lacey’s dart. The effect is as subtle as a whisper. (Not a crimson whisper; the regular kind.) Like a little voice saying hey, listen…

And what B. Guile hears is a crewman extinguishing his Friar Tuck hair. He literally went down in flames! And the rest will surely fall to their unscathed opponents!

She moves closer to the other Bombshells and speaks softly:

"Some smarty-pants once said that to err is human, to forgive is divine...but I think that person was a pansy. These would-be sexual assualters haven't learned their lesson yet, but pain is a very good teacher."

"But if you all have had enough, I'll go with the consensus. Apparently I'm somehow the leader of this group, but I don't want to be a dictator. Not like them."

Lacey once again roots around in her purse (which, in case it isn't obvious yet, is like Batman's utility belt), and pulls out...a hammer?

"A mustachioed plumber gave me this. Said it was a rare power-up. Must not've been too rare, since all I had to do was give him a lapdance to get it...."

She concentrates on the hammer, which then disintegrates, its essence warping around her body! She now wears a black turtle-shell and a black helmet, with her dress also turning black.

"Ughh...not very fashionable, but..."

She holds out a hand, and large hammers appear out of thin air, and rain down on her enemies! This time, she targets the crewman, instead of the captain.

"Oh yeah! Totally worth it! Ya'll ready for some concussions?!"

The Mother steps over the unconscious copilot and picks up the red envelopes that the men dropped after failing to bribe their way out of a painful ‘lesson.’

Gemini flies over to the aircraft, intending to take her seat. It's completely unnecessary of course, since if she flies inside the vehicle she'll move with it while ignoring any turbulence but she's a believer in sharing any discomfort. A group that flies together, stays together after all. She rests her board over her legs, with a mildly perturbed expression.

"It's a shame really. I don't condone violence." She taps out a slow rhythm, on top of the board. "But long as we're together, I'm sure everything'll be totally killer."

The steam plane looks like it was slapped together with parts of grandfather clocks and potbelly stoves. And yet, it flies.

The V-TOL wings rotate so the chuggy-puffy parts blast their steam at the ground. The plane lifts as a helicopter would.

Once well off the ground, The Mother pulls a lever. The wings gradually rotate to their horizontal position and the plane gains speed at the aviatrix pedals faster and faster.

Yes, pedals. Apparently the plane has bicycle parts too.

The Mother

The Mother looks at the fairy with genuine empathy. "He’ll live," she says for Gemini’s sake.

To Gong-Ju, she says, "If it’s the sea you want, I can fly to the Wolverine Airport after the mission. That’s along the coast, and not too far from Buzzard’s Bottom. You’d love it!

"But my daughter’s trail disappeared around the center of The Massholes’ northern border. The nearest airports are Buckburg and Wusta."

She points to a map that she drew herself on a napkin. Buckburg is close to the northern border. Wusta is halfway between the north and south borders of the uncommonwealth. There’s a trail that leads from Neo Hampshire to Buckburg to Wusta. From Wusta, trails start to branch.

There are several places none of you ever heard of, since the only thing people in Neo Hampshire ever say about The Massholes is that they suck. But there is one town marked on the trail between Buckburg and Wusta: LeMonster.

The Mother says, "Either I land in Buckburg and we follow the trail south, or Wusta, and we go north to cut her off.

"If anyone got her to Wusta this quickly…" The Mother prefers to leave that sentence unfinished.

It’s a clear day, perfect for flying! Look out the windows—

(They’re little round windows only a foot in diameter.)

—see the land below! As soon as you cross the border, everything below is craters and overgrowth. Some of the craters are stagnant ponds, others are pits of waterfalls, trickling and gushing to depths unknown. Whatever war men waged, the men lost. Mother Nature claimed it all.

At least that’s the case before you’ve flown past Buckburg. You start to see pits of melted plastic, a rainbow nightmare trying to flush itself down a clogged abyss. Another crater is filled with rusty train cars clinging to vines.

"No wonder my mom lost my daughter’s trail. Nature itself is too corrupted to speak. I can’t imagine why anyone would take my little girl here…"

The Mother hesitates, as if to listen…

"May… is that yo—??"

Her words are cut off as a bolt of lightning shoots through the left wing of the steamplane, setting it ablaze!

"The fuck?!" Like charcoal gray curtains, cloud cover swoops in from the west and from the east! "Losing altitude—V-TOL’s out—fuck!"

The Mother tries to control the plane, even as it speeds toward the Massholes! As you get close to the ground, you see a broken highway bridge—both halves up at an angle, daring drivers to jump the gap.

In your case, flying between or under without a collision is the dare.

You wake up in the plane. It’s not in one piece, but you are. You remember the wing clipping the bridge. (Or being clipped off by it.) There was fire. And spinning. A lot of spinning.

As you regain your bearings, you can see that the windows are wrapped in vines.

Open the emergency exit—or if you’re Gemini, just fly out a broken window—you see the entire plane is entangled in vines. The one wing is in its vertical position.

"Right," the Mother says to Murasaki. "You pulled on the stick and the V-TOL finally unjammed. That… probably slowed our descent and saved our lives."

And while that may be true, you are now on a busted plane that is dangling from an entanglement of vines. It’s only a ten foot drop to the water below, but the water is gross.

🕹️SWING ON A VINE!

Your controls still work as they always do, so this is an extra function. Swinging on a vine does not require Girl Power. You can just do it, as long as there’s a vine to swing on.

Gemini can fly, so she doesn’t have to swing. She can do a rail grind across the vine for fun, if she wants.

The Mother grabs a vine and swings past the slimy green water. She lands on her good ankle and stumbles a bit. "Looks like we walk. Go ahead and grab a vine, and c’mon down!"

She’s trying to be encouraging…

She glides out of the plane to stand on top, hand shading her eyes despite her cap, and takes stock of their location. Her melancholy is quickly washed away, replaced with her usual goofy smile as she sees the wonders around. Before long she's gaining speed by using the plane as a ramp before hopping onto a vine for a grind.

"Not what I'm used to, but I'm not wiggin'."

She's not eager to take a dip in the water, but she doesn't trust her fate to the vines either after seeing Gong-Ju slip. Murasaki leaps out of the emergency exit, and at the apex of her jump...

Use a Secret Move to move yourself past an obstacle in a way that’s humanly impossible, or enter Stealth Mode!

As long as you have 🌸, you can do this at no cost.

She launches herself diagonally upwards through the air with a flaming uppercut, using the maneuver just like a double jump! Comfortably clearing the nasty water, Murasaki lands next to the Mother.

"Mother. You seemed to notice something right before the lightning took us down. Did you sense your daughter?" She asks.

Since Gong-Ju can swim effortlessly, even in a strong current, she can catch a friend who falls in the water to spare her from the hazard. In this case, she can catch Lacey if she fails the swing, and in a way that keeps her clothes from being slimed.

Lacey had been stuck in her Hammer Suit transformation, wondering how to change back into her sexy and less cumbersome form. Hadn't the plumber said something about damage causing him to lose the power-up...?

Apparently that's how it works, as the plane jostled Lacey enough to change her back; there's a "chyump chyump chyump" sound effect, and the suit disappears in a pixelated mist. She smooths out her dress and runs a hand through her hair.

"Now that's figured out. Maybe I can seduce some more plumbers and get some more power-ups. Didn't what's-his-face say he had a brother...?"

At the moment, though, avoiding the icky water is crucial. Lacey slips on some gloves, grabs a vine, and....

• Either of Lacey’s specials could work, though the ☢️Shoe Phone App uses a 👠. The 🕹️Rubey Slipper does not.

• Gemini only has the special moves that all Bottle Fairies have. But being so tiny, she can just fly into the overgrowth an look! (No dice; just RP the search.)

She hands her envelope to Emoticat and begins to contemplate her options. Luckily, she's not illiterate despite living in a cave until recently.

Gemini had been distracted by the sky when Emoticat had looked up. Clouds were a radical thing, with all those shapes and the lazy days without a care. It would be nice to be a cloud, but then if she was a cloud she wouldn't be able to skate which wouldn't be grand. Still, her eyes drift over to Emoticat and she taps her chin thoughtfully.

Gemini feels a surge of power, like there’s more flit in her flutter. It’s weird how a Snippet can do that…

With shopping out of the way, April (The Mother) follows her feelings and leads you toward her daughter May (The Maiden).

It’s an hour-long walk to the base of a hill. In the way up, you enter that area on The Mother’s map she had labeled LeMonster. You keep moving… it’s only a mile’s walk to the hilltop.

Facing east, you can see a grand view of the Massholes. Craters dot the distant plains. Somehow, this hill was spared. Its ancient trees only bear a single fresh wound: a nail.

Murasaki places her hands together as if in prayer and begins to hide her presence. The cycling of ki through her body slows as she becomes translucent.

Going past translucency, she hides herself thoroughly enough to become invisible to the naked eye! Keeping her steps light, she goes ahead to get an idea of what might be waiting for them.

Murasaki heads down ahead of the team, descending into the valley and deep into a scorched forest. Ahead of her is a tunnel constructed of large bricks.

On top of the tunnel isn’t a rusty, broken down train. And seated on the train is a troll so big, he’d have to crawl through the tunnel!

While her friends scout ahead, Lacey decides to question The Mother. Rescue missions were rarely simple (see: "Sorry, but your princess is in another castle"), and she still hadn't learned much about the three generations of women she was helping.

"What can you tell us about your daughter, Mother? Didn't you say something about The Maiden being rebellious?"

"And what...uh...happens when she's not a Maiden anymore? I don't want to alarm you, but as a former damsel-in-distress myself, I know that men can be...."

She trails off, because The Mother had seen the fight back at the airport. She didn't need to be told that men were "eager for intimacy." In fact, Lacey probably shouldn't have mentioned her daughter's potential non-maidenhood at all...but it was too late now.

The Mother

"Men are no different now than they were nineteen years ago." She gives Lacey a knowing look. "I was the rebel, in that sense. But if not for my misspent twenties, there would be no May. She means more to me than the magic I gave up."

Her mood lightens as she focuses on her daughter. "May is more of a free spirit than a rebel. She has the power to purify the land, and the magic is strong because she is pure. There’s more to it than maidenhood… she truly loves nature. Even what’s twisted, mutated… she somehow finds the good in it.

"I don’t know who could possibly hate her so much they want her dead, but even now as I’m tracking her… it’s her feelings, her emotions, that guide me."

The Mother reaches her left hand in the same northeast direction Murasaki went to scout.

"I feel her fear, but no… anguish. Mostly, she pities her enemies." You get the feeling The Mother would personally rip the heads off her daughter’s captors, if she could. "If she’s still so naïve, then they haven’t…"

She trails off, perhaps for Lacey’s sake as much as her own.

That is not a fight to rush into alone. Murasaki thinks upon seeing the massive troll. However, she is curious as to why he's guarding the tunnel. She quietly stalks through the tunnel and gets a look at what's beyond the other side.

After that, she'll escape to relay her findings to the others.

Inside the tunnel, it’s pitch black. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and if Murasaki looks back, the west exit (where she came from) simply appears as another light. Once close to either exit, the world outside the tunnel becomes distinguishable.

It is safe to move close enough to the east exit to look out. What Murasaki sees is a jungle with a pinkish-purplish sky somewhat obscured by a lush green canopy. Dangling vines sway gently, presumably from a light wind.

(Murasaki can neither hear nor feel the wind, nor can she feel the temperature or hear any sound at all but her own footfalls while in the tunnel. Should she dare to speak, her voice will echo throughout the tunnel.)

The trees here are surely ancient, as if this part of the world was untouched by Man and War. Pink flowers, the same vivid hue as April’s hair, are in full bloom on either side of the footpath leading away from the tunnel.

Murasaki is fascinated and more than a little perplexed, but she decides that she's gathered enough information for now. If she remains any longer, she risks unveiling herself. However, she does pluck one of the pink flowers before leaving. She figures it could possibly be important.

She makes her way back to the team before dropping her invisibility. "I have returned. Up ahead, there's a troll guard posted on top of the brickwork tunnel. He is quite big. I estimate him to be about..." She pauses. Being unfamiliar with units of measurement, she tries to get it across in another way. "Ten O'haras stacked on top of each other would only reach his shoulder. In other words, not a foe to be taken lightly."

"There's also the matter of where the tunnel leads. When I went in, I saw a lush jungle at the other end. The sky was an unnatural pinkish-purple hue, which made me feel as if I was looking into some other world. Mother, would you know anything about this?" Murasaki asks. "I also brought this back." She presents the pink flower.

"Good job, Murasaki! That stealthiness is incredible! Maybe I'll find a power-up that does something similar, and we can sneak around together...."

She glances at the flower, and considers Murasaki's description of this jungle. Had the Maiden created or enhanced this strange place? She supposedly could "purify" the land....

The Mother could better answer that question, so Lacey instead focuses on the troll.

"What about the troll? Was it alert, or one of those dozing types? I'm wondering if we can all sneak past, or if a fight is inevitable...or maybe we can lure it from its post with a distraction...."

She begins digging through her purse, hoping to find something useful.

You only know the troll is big! But given how many games I drew inspiration from for the damsel, and based on Eltesla’s interpretation of the size (which is now canon), the troll is like a monster from Rampage. This includes the ability to swallow you whole! (But if that happens, it’ll be more like in Muramasa: The Demon Blade.)

The Mother

The Mother examines the pink flower. "I’ve never seen such a—oh!" Loose strands of her hair rise as she holds the plant. Her arms are covered in goosebumps. April is almost giddy. "I thought I lost this kind of…"

She quickly drops to her knees, digs into the scorched soil with her left hand, and inserts the flower’s stem into the hole. It’s only inches deep, yet the touch of the plant seems to soften the soil. And the plant roots itself into the ground, right before your eyes.

There’s another transformation happening as well. The plant’s stem starts to grow thorns, and more thorns rise around it.

The Mother seems satisfied.

"I’m afraid I know nothing of the tunnel, or what’s on the other side, but somehow my daughter created a plant that responds to me..! I… don’t know why she did."

The Mother seems to be struggling with this.

"I don’t know how best to deal with the troll. Only one way to find out…"

She'd intended to call out to him before, but the wicked mystifying colours on the other side of the tunnel had kept her attention. She'd finally managed to snap out of her trance when the troll started to move, and she drifted down to be roughly eye line with him.

"Watcha up to?" She leans back as though sitting, and unrolls a picture of May. "Me and my crew are looking for someone, don't suppose you've seen her?"

The tunnel is pitch black, with lights on either end. Your footfalls echo along the walls and ceiling around you. Should you speak, your voices will sound like distant echos as if spoken by the lights at both ends of the tunnel rather than through your lips. Somehow, despite the strangeness, it feels safe in here… like an unvoiced guarantee: it will just be the four of you, undisturbed, until you step through the light.

She pulls a large candle from her purse. Specifically, a Blue Candle. It can illuminate the area, and also spit out fire if needed.

MONSTERLAND’S JUNGLE ROAD

Outside the tunnel is a jungle with a pinkish-purplish sky somewhat obscured by a lush green canopy. Dangling vines sway gently, presumably from a light wind.

The trees here are surely ancient, as if this part of the world was untouched by Man and War. The temperature is warm and inviting. Pink flowers are in full bloom on either side of the footpath leading away from the tunnel, and presumably, toward The Maiden.

As you follow the path—The Mother assuring you her daughter is not only ahead, but somehow, unscathed—there seems to be no one around. Of course, you expect an ambush.

You even might expect that the bushes are the #1 hiding place for ambushes.

But in this case, it is the bushes!

Okay, so you know what food means in a video game world. Though none of you are hurt, Gong-Ju can actually benefit.

The way the Baked Apple works (this baked apple, anyway) is:
• Press ☢️ to eat it an get the weird mutant benefits that many foods have, thanks to the world getting nuked. (That was a reach for making the Nuke Button related to eating. But anyway…)

• On a 💥HIT, you replenish +1 Health or +1 Girl Power. (Player’s choice if both are depleted.)

She watches Murasaki swing as if she was born in the jungle (and raised by monkeys or something), and is both inspired and a bit jealous. She hop-pirouettes through the air, grabs a vine, and...yes! She's swinging! Now she needs to say something witty and bad-ass....

"You can't catch me, destiny! I’m always one swing ahead!"

OK, not the best. Maybe she should brainstorm some catchphrases....

Lacey has a pretty good grip on the vines. She only passes the oni who fell, but on the bright side, that means the potentially-threatening oni haven’t seen her yet…

It takes Gemini a moment to get going. She's debating with herself why everyone always seems to obsessed with sacrifices and things. Surely it would be better to listen to some froody beats and share a heart to heart. Magic borne of cooperation always seems to last longer, even if it's not stronger. Or you know, something like that.

She's lost in thought as a gust of wind blows her off course, and by the time she notices it the others have opened up a lead. Not many people are as fast through the air as Starfire though, and when she puts her mind to flying...

As Gemini beats her wings, an updraft catches her wings! The little fairy flutters with all her might to avoid smacking into gigantic leaves! She zigs and she zags—she finds herself above the canopy where the view is spectacular!

There’s a volcano up ahead, and it looks angry! It starts spewing fireballs! Some of them land on the hill and bounce off or roll down.

On a 💥HIT, Gong-Ju can choose to dive off the vine into the water below. In this case, the difference between hit and miss is how far across the water she ends up.

The three oni who fell don’t have much choice. They try to catch up, but three alligators (or are they crocodiles?) quickly converge on them. There are sound of splashing and screaming, though one of the screams is cut short as the oni’s face is bitten off.

Not his head. His face.

Other oni call out to Swingin’ Dick.

The oni stop trying to warn their boss—not about the gators (crocs?), but about you. A few of them stop running. They’re ready to stop you… but the problem is, they have to stop and turn. You’re coming straight at ’em!

(Gong-Ju and Lacey are blocked by the oni. Murasaki and Gemini leap or fly over them.)

Lacey decides to fight the oni. They'll probably have to fight 'em eventually anyway; better to get it out of the way.

She pulls a thick, dog-eared book from her purse. It has "Game Genie" on the cover, along with a strange red genie-dude. She flips through it quickly, trying to find something that'll help her before the oni notice her. She's not entirely sure what this book is all about; it's supposed to have "codes" for "games," but what does that really mean? They were in reality, not a game!

Eventually she comes to an entry called "Paper Boy," which has a code that says "start with 20 papers." Good enough. By the code it says: "GOXAUOZA."

"Uhhh...go-axe-ah-you-uh-zuh?"

Nothing happens. Since this isn't Paper Boy, no codes will work! But Lacey of course doesn't know this, so she curses in her frustration and closes the book in a huff.

Well, it's pretty thick and heavy, so she decides to just throw it at the oni! It sails through the air, right towards one of their faces!

The boss cannot be allowed to escape! Trusting Lacey and Gong-Ju to handle themselves, Murasaki keeps on moving. She sprints after Dick, trying to catch up to him and the oni around him.

It doesn't take much for her to close the distance. As she nears them, Murasaki tries to strike one of the oni from behind with a flying kick.

Gemini doesn't want Murasaki to go forward on her own, so the moment she can she swoops down to assist her ally. The image of the angry looking volcano is still fresh in her mind, but she has an immediate concern and sees no point in making everyone any more stressed than they are.

Seeing "Neb" about to pull something shifty, she puts up a reflective barrier. Anything he does to attack Murasaki will instead hurt him instead. It's not exactly causing violence if you're simply bouncing it back. Right? "What goes around comes around, my dude."

Since the attack combo’d, there’s a harm and hinder effect. Oni Wab Keboni ("Neb" to his buddies) is a miniboss/captain type, but for his first move, I’ll let a single hinder shut him down! He gets no attack. I’ll just have to see whether @Dmbrainiac takes out the two remaining Oni Stooges. If so (which is likely because of Button Mash), the enemy won’t even have an attack next round!

The oni laserswordsman notes that he is suddenly outnumbered. He doesn’t bother to look back to see if other minions will aid him. (They continue to charge uphill with their leader, toward the devil-faced ‘volcanic’ peak.)

"Very well." He stands with his beam katana held up right, resigned to his fate. "None shall pass."

More ass-kicking! The Bombshells couldn't be stopped! Lacey doesn't say this out loud, though, fearing a jinx....

Earlier, she'd seen Murasaki do a move that seemed to be called a "Hadouken." It looked pretty cool, so Lacey attempts to replicate it! Murasaki's physical superiority is obvious, however, and perhaps Lacey should stick to digging through her purse and being the tricky, sultry ranged attacker.

But that would be a pathetic capitulation! She controls her fate, not onis, men, or bushes!

She widens her stance, moves her arms in a strange motion...did Murasaki use two hands or just one?...she decides to just use one hand. Two might be overkill. But wait...didn't they want overkill?

"HADOUKEN!!"

A blue ball of energy actually surges out of her hand, and flies towards their foe! But it's not, actually, a hadouken; it's a gadouken, the one-handed blast famously used by Dan of Street Fighter. Obviously less potent than Murasaki's, and it's moving at a much slower pace. Will it do any sort of damage?

Maybe it's NOT less potent....

I get something extra for a combo, right? I'd like for Keboni to be thrown off by the projectile's slow movement, so his deflective swings are poor, and his laser-sword slips out of his hand! And the blast, of course, hits him anyway. If that's not feasible, then just extra damage, I guess.

As the beam katana's hilt falls to the ground, Murasaki makes a dive for it! She reignites the laser blade with the press of a button and brandishes it against its former wielder. The blade's color shifts from red to purple.

"I didn't except a perfect gadouken from you, O'hara-san! Not only that, you misdirected him further by calling out an entirely different technique. Incredible!" Having complete faith in her leader, Murasaki seems to think Lacey did it on purpose. She turns her attention back to the oni before her and comes in for a slash!

The thing about using fireballs on a free spirited skater fairy, who's element is fire, is that it doesn't really work. Gemini moves just enough to avoid the kinetic force of the projectile, then skims her board over the updraft from the heat as though she'd just gone over a ramp. The ensuing repertoire of board tricks are enough to get her mind back on the situation, and lift her spirits.

"Not bad mountain dude, got any good slopes to drift on too?" She smiles lasily.

Lacey knows a boss fight when she sees one. This battle needs more than mace, sloppy fireballs, or Blue Candles. It's time to use her Girl Power!

She removes her red high heel (in a quite fetching manner), and fiddles with the Shoe Phone. Eventually she finds an app called MegaVoice, which enhances her phone's speakers, effectively turning it into a megaphone.

Speaking into it, her voice now carries far through the land, and certainly up to Mountain Face, who she's actually addressing.

"Hello, Mountain...Face? I don't know your name, sorry. Listen, we've overheard these mean-spirited oni and their insults. It's clear they don't appreciate you. I mean, you can't be expected to shoot fireballs with 100% accuracy, right? How about you ditch those jackasses and help us? We're four hot babes with tons of different abilities! We can definitely pay you back somehow after the fight's over. Maybe find a cliff or boulder that's looking for love, and hook you two up? Or [smiling salaciously] maybe you prefer flesh-and-blood paramours?"

Murasaki leaps out of the unexpectedly helpful flames, blazing with a newfound energy! Her beam katana's blade erupts with energy, upgrading into more of a greatsword, flickering like a purple bonfire. "Thank you, mountain! Your gift shall not be in vain!"

She grasps the beam katana's hilt with both hands as she rushes forth after Gong-Ju. She slashes at the sole remaining oni as she passes by, severing one of his horns as she drops him.

"You have no more allies left! I suggest you relinquish the Maiden to us." Murasaki calls to Dick. "Put up a fight, and it won't be our hearts that get carved out."

If Oni don't burn though, that makes things difficult. A fire type fairy can't exactly use fire magic on things that don't burn. Then again, she'd always been the kind of person who did things her own way, a total free spirit. If a fairy with a fire type can make fire, it stands to reason she'd be able to take it away. Right? Well, old dogs and new tricks, why not try?

The oni seems to be reeling, so she decides to play it a little safer and blast it with her mace! But a different mace this time; rather than targeting the eyes, she sprays it into the bastard's ears! It'll burn like Hades, and hopefully reduce its hearing!
