Part 1: No Business Like Show Business

Drawn by the commotion, Aurelia hastens to the scene of the disturbance and observes the women. It is obviously a ruse, and a fine acting job it is too.

To the audience at large, Aurelia announces with a flourish, "Let the woman be. As my friend here has said, she has every right to enter!" Offering an arm, if she accepts, Aurelia will lead her into the exhibit room.
Mar 12, 2025 6:42 pm
Seizing the dramatic moment Aurelia provides, the woman casts back her hood to reveal her familiar features. "Indeed! It is I, Delmonia Crape! These hoity-toity servants seem to be under the impression that only the rich and fancy are allowed to be artists. Hence, the outfit, to point out one should not hew too closely to one's preconceived notions. Abolish bias!"

The servants trip all over themselves to apologize to Delmonia. The other guests give some light applause, while Zachrin nods in appreciation of the stunt and your reactions to it.
OOC:
You have gained 1 Fete Point.
With Delmonia’s arrival settled, Zachrin ushers the partygoers back into the main hall, where the servants have taken the displayed artwork away so the stage can serve as a dance floor. Musicians are preparing in the orchestra pit as Zachrin announces the next event, a Dance of Masked Devils. Several in the crowd clap and cheer in delight.

A Dance of Masked Devils is a celebration of the unmasking of devils within Ravounelian society, consisting of an eclectic mix of line dancing, whirling dervish, musical chairs, tag, and even chess-like strategies and moves. Each participant dons a wooden devil mask (supplied by Zachrin). As they’re defeated, contestants add their masks to a growing pile in a large cauldron set in the center of the stage. The final dancer standing gets the honor of removing their mask, lighting it on fire, and tossing their burning mask into the cauldron to "send the devils back to the fires of Hell."

For a half hour, guests are invited to mingle and dance on the stage or to gather in the auditorium to watch and chat. The competition takes up the second half hour, with anyone wishing to participate in the competition being assigned a mask and then joining the other competitors on stage.
OOC:
In addition to basic Fete Activities, the PCs can pursue either of the following Fete Activities during the second hour.

DANCE WITH A PARTNER CONCENTRATE, EXPLORATION

A PC spends a half hour dancing. If they do so with another PC, or if the PC decides to dance by themselves, no checks are attempted, but no Fete Points can be earned. If a PC chooses to dance with one of the notable NPCs, the PC should attempt a Performance check against their partner’s Will DC to earn Fete Points.

COMPETE IN THE DANCE CONCENTRATE, EXPLORATION

This Fete Activity can only be attempted once during the second half hour. A PC who wishes to compete in the Dance of the Masked Devils attempts three DC 28 Performance checks to accrue Fete Points. Any PC who achieves at least 2 Victory Points places in the final round, while a PC who achieves 4 or more Victory Points wins the competition; if multiple PCs potentially win, the PC with the most Victory Points is the winner. In the event of a tie, the PCs should choose which of them wins. If no PC wins, Elleste Gudgeon wins, and her increased confidence grants her a +2 circumstance bonus to Perception and Will for the rest of the evening.

Once Aurelia had done her good deed for the day and garnered attention from the provocative sculptor, she congratulated her on the successful ruse and asked about the suspicious servant she had noticed earlier before everyone was whisked away back into the main hall.

"What can you tell me about the heavy, bearded servant over there? He was what seemed like overly attentive to my work. I tried to catch his gaze but he looked away," she says in a low voice.

Later, she excuses herself, follows everyone into the main hall, and delightedly enters the dance competition, accepting her mask with glee. She dances like there's no tomorrow, which is always possible in her new line of work, it seems. She dips and bows and turns on her heels, lapping up the attention and loving the act of competing.
OOC:
Yay! But how can she achieve 4 victory points from 3 rolls unless the one she earned earlier gives her the 4th point, otherwise, 3 has her stuck in no man's land?

Ramank walks over to Delmonia. "Nice trick. Showing these hoity toity rubes their own prejudices may be the best work of art I've seen all night."
OOC:
He'll try to influence their new arrival with some fake praise.

Edit: I'll hero point that roll

Horace watches as the dance begins, but decides to spend his energy approaching and making conversation with Zachrin Vhast. After making small talk and observing the man for some time, he moves on to approach the painter, Abigail Tottlescoff. "You look like you're enjoying yourself," he says with a smirk - he attempts to be ambiguous as to whether his observation is earnest or sarcastic, depending on how she reacts.

Rolls

Perception (Discovery v. Zachrin) - (1d20+21)

(6) + 21 = 27

Diplomacy (Cha) (Schmooze w/ Abigail) - (1d20+24)

(16) + 24 = 40

OOC:
I'll resolve the first half hour's activities first, as @crazybirdman still needs to roll for Bekassine's activities anyway. :)

Horace

Zachrin chats pleasantly with Horace, asking about the artwork he's putting up for auction tonight and how he's enjoying the party so far. Horace is able to pick up a bit of insight about the priest of Shelyn.
OOC:
Horace, choose one of the following: You learn which skill that can Influence the NPC has the lowest DC (skipping any skills that you already know), one of the NPC’s personal biases, one of the NPC’s resistances, or one of the NPC’s weaknesses. He has no biases so that is not an option you need to consider this time.

Ramank

Delmonia gives Ramank a self-satisfied grin. "Thank you. I do enjoy giving my uptight colleagues some food for thought. And might I say, that you've got quite the impressive friend here!" She gestures to Yarth. "Hello there, mighty dragon! I'll bet you enjoy shaking up the status quo as much as I do!"

Indeed, Delmonia is quite impressed by Ramank and Yarth.
OOC:
You gain 1 Fete Point.

Aurelia

Aurelia asks around about the bearded servant. Strangely, the other servants and ushers working the fete claim to not have seen him before tonight. The bard glimpses the servant emerging from the kitchens, glancing around suspiciously...
Mar 27, 2025 2:16 pm
OOC:
sorry! I'll try a Discover check against Zachrin Vhast, also don't think I've used the +2 I previously gained yet.
Not one for dance, Bekassine decides to join Horace and Zachrin. "Of course he's enjoying it, it's his gala after all. And you do know how to throw a party sir."

Rolls

Perception (Discovery v. Zachrin) - (1d20+20)

(7) + 20 = 27

Mar 28, 2025 1:38 am
Aurelia decides to follow the servant. Something is very off, and she aims to find out what this servant is up to. She approaches innocently.

"Oh dear, I need a glass of water right away. I believe something is stuck in my throat!" she says, acting fully the part of a panicked and half-choking woman.

She will attempt to grab the servant's arm and pull him aside.
Mar 28, 2025 3:15 am
OOC:
Let's learn a weakness, please!
Mar 28, 2025 10:40 am
Bekassine and Horace

Zachrin smiles at Bekassine's compliment. He chats with you a bit about the history of the Kintargo Opera House and some of the famous operas that have been hosted here. Horace notes then when he mentions some of Fallenta's previous plays, his eyes light up and he becomes more animated. It would seem that Zachrin is a fan of her work!
OOC:
Weakness: Even though Fallenta told you not to mention her name, should you choose to admit that you're working with her when the time comes to influence Zachrin, you will have a much easier time, as he believes she is an excellent director.

Bekassine succeeded at the Discover check so she can choose to either learn which skill that can Influence the NPC has the lowest DC (skipping any skills that you already know) or one of the NPC’s resistances. He only has the one weakness.

Aurelia

The servant's eyes widen as Aurelia grabs his arm. "Oh! Uh, yes, right away, madame," he mumbles, trying to pull away from her. But it's too late, as Aurelia feels not cloth, but coarse fur under her fingers. Realizing something is very wrong, she is able to disbelieve the illusory disguise he has created, seeing him for what he truly is--a creature resembling a bipedal hog with a wide-tusked mouth, bloated belly, and long, bristly tail!

OOC:
i guess I'd like to know Elleste Gudgeon's resistances.

"Why you're nothing but a pig!" Aurelia exclaims, keeping a firm grip on the creature as she drags it aside.

"What are you playing at, skulking about the place? I've been watching you," she hisses malevolently.

"Talk or I'll cut you up for dinner." With that threat, she pulled out her dagger, while ensuring guests weren't observing her movements.
OOC:
Her plan was to drag him off to the side, into a room or alcove where they can't be seen.
Mar 28, 2025 8:19 pm
The servant’s eyes widen when Aurelia draws her blade. With a snort, he turns to flee!

Before any of you can react, he sprints away across the crowded dance floor! The guests who are dancing grunt and cry out in surprise as he shoves past them, slowing him down some. But he is faster than a normal human and is already almost to the exit doors!
OOC:
Everybody may act. He is 60 feet away from Aurelia, but only 30 feet from Ramank and Yarth and 20 feet from Horace and Bekassine.

Rolls

Aurelia Intimidation - (d20+18)

(15) + 18 = 33

Initiative (A, B, H, R, Enemy) - (d20+20, d20+20, d20+21, d20+19, d20+24)

d20+20 : (15) + 20 = 35

d20+20 : (6) + 20 = 26

d20+21 : (14) + 21 = 35

d20+19 : (20) + 19 = 39

d20+24 : (20) + 24 = 44

Mar 28, 2025 8:42 pm
OOC:
do they look like a pig to us?
Mar 28, 2025 8:55 pm
OOC:
They look human to everybody but Aurelia. If she calls out that they are disguised, each of you may attempt a single immediate DC 33 Will save to attempt to disbelieve the illusion.
Mar 28, 2025 10:19 pm
Ramank sends a bolt of ice flying from his hands, hoping to slow down the interloper. Meanwhile Yarth is quick to rush over to him and tries to grapple him in its jaws.
OOC:
A 1+2: Act Together (Cast Ray of Frost + Yarth Stride)
A3: Yarth grapple
[ +- ] Ray of Frost

Rolls

Ray of Frost - Atk/Dam - (1d20+21, 6d4+5)

1d20+21 : (12) + 21 = 33

6d4+5 : (344111) + 5 = 19

Yarth Athletics vs Fort DC - (1d20+4-5)

(16) - 1 = 15

Mar 28, 2025 10:55 pm
"It's not a human!" Aurelia shouts. It's a pig.Like a real pig. Not a slob."
Mar 28, 2025 11:03 pm
OOC:
Where's it headed to? I want to use Wall of Ice, but not trap any party goers in it.
Mar 29, 2025 12:12 am
OOC:
It's trying to escape the opera house. Wall of ice would be perfect to stop it!
