Story I: The Rift

As the group rounds the next bend, each of you are confronted with a strange sight. About fifteen feet ahead of you is a two way split, with the path to the left leading down a dark, sloping tunnel. The path dead ahead, however, connects to a broken, stone wall. It appears as though the tunnel (or whatever formed it) smashed this opening through the wall. Beyond the opening is a chamber of cobbled stone floors and cut stone walls, angled as though the interior is a room that was tilted just slightly to the left. The rocky terrain of the tunnel ends abruptly at the edges of stone flooring, though the wall that used to be there is evident by the broken edges of stony bricks ringing the entrance into this new room.

Suspiciously, the broken edges of wall are covered in the same blue, glowing fungi, extending from a slimy mold that coats the stone. There is enough room to easily pass through the entryway into the room without brushing against the mushrooms, but notably the growths are almost twice as large as those in the pit you have just passed. The sound of dripping water can be heard from within the room.

"Did you see that?!" Devanis whispers "There's something moving about in there."

"I believe that's the underground crypt from the Old Bracklewhyte Temple. It might house valuable artifacts. But also... I can see a light hovering around in there. Do you see it? I don't know what it is. A restless spirit, unclaimed by the Exhumed, maybe? Your guess is as good as mine."

Though it is difficult to notice it with the glow of the fungi, you either spot the glow of another light within the room as you turn the corner, or notice it when Devanis points it out.

Pyrrah quickly hands off the torch to whoever will take it. Once it's out of her way, she extends her hands towards the broken wall and murmurs a spell in Dwarven, causing the murky green crystal at her throat to pulse with a deep emerald light. "Tanthanus eron tel!"A ball of fire bursts into her hands and she sends it flying into the room, illuminating objects on its way.

Firebolt cantrip for light in the space from a safe distance. Does this reveal anything, or do you want perception checks?
OOC:
I like to vocalize my spells when I use them. I had to merge 2 different dwarven translators, so for those who speak it my spell roughly translates into "Arrow of Fire"

The blast of flame as it strikes the opposing wall within the room (which you estimate to be about 30 feet deep, now that you've got a better way to judge it by) illuminates the area. Very quickly you see a hue of white light beyond the blue glow of the fungi, off to the left after the broken wall. Though the source of the light is out of sight, its glow casts shadows that make it seem like it is dancing back and forth; up and down. It makes no sound.

The small portion of the room that you are able to see appears to be empty, though you can see that the stone floor is broken in places, with a solid amount of rocky debris.

I want to get a better angle on this and see what's in there. Ameera move up 15 feet, but off to the left to position herself to see down the left tunnel and perhaps see into the the stone chamber to catch a glimpse of source of the white light. Again she clutches the small branch from her purse.

Devanis readies his crossbow but wonders whether any of his weapons will do any good against the floating apparition he just saw.

Ameera sends a message directly into Devanis' mind. There's a statue in the room, I can't see anything dangerous from here. But don't go running down this tunnel. Ameera carefully moves closer, careful of the debris on the floor.

Devanis is startled by Ameera's voice in his head. But no time to worry about that now. He nods and creeps forward towards the broken wall, preparing to step through.

Going to wait for Erran and Baric, just to make sure they don't want to do anything first.
Nov 8, 2016 10:51 pm
Erran follows the ranger's lead into the stone structure, ready to summon his sword to his hands.

Ameera follows Devanis closely, immediately scanning to the left where her initial looks didn't reach. Once inside, given the chance, she will hug the wall and move towards the statue.

Pyrrah will follow up to the edge of the broken wall and then pause, waiting outside.

Readying for danger, Baric Draws his rapier and one of his daggers, setting up a dueling stance with his dagger pomel poised as a drumstick over the instrument at his side, ready to either play or throw the dagger. He follows just behind the back of the party and softly clears his throat.

Some members of the party pass into the chamber, feeling the awkward imbalance as the floor slopes somewhat to the side. Traversing to the right is a slight incline, and to the left it is uneasy footing as you descend a mostly-smooth, slightly-angled surface. Some of you remain outside, or in the doorway, which saves you this trouble. Directly ahead of you in the hallway, about 15 feet in, is a sharp depression in the ground, roughly 5 feet deep. It spans the remaining 15 feet to the far wall as you enter. It is littered with crumbling stones, large stones, and dirt. There is a smell of stagnant, dirty water coming from it, though you do not immediately see any.

To the right the hallway ends about 35 feet in, with 4 statues spaced down the center of the hall.

To the left is another side, as the hallway extends roughly the same distance and then sharply turns to the right. The path to the left is lacking in statues, but at the wall there are two corpses that rest upon the ground. Near them is a small, shimmering white light that seems to bob and dip side-to-side, illuminating the hallway as it does. It stays in roughly the same area.

Each square is 5 feet.
The Statues (Numbered 1-4 from left to right)

Statue One: The statue nearest the tunnel is a tall piece depicting a noble-looking man. He is clutching a small pouch in his hands and looking ahead stalwartly. It is broken in places, including on the shoulder, a portion of his head, and one of his hands is absent.

Statue Two: This statue is almost entirely in pieces that lie scattered about the floor.

Statue Three: Likely only the bottom half of this statue remains. You see what appears to be a skirt or the bottom end of robes. Pieces lie about the floor here as well.

Statue Four: This statue is also of a man, who appears younger if only due to his longer hair. He is beautiful by all accounts, with a starburst depicted behind his head to offer a sense of divinity or righteousness. The statue has a sword and shield in its hands.

Erran proceeds into the chamber with some hesitation, taking in the room for a moment before laying his gaze on the floating orb of light.

He takes a few cautionary steps towards it, analyzing it's features while keeping a hand slightly outstretched in anticipation that he may need to cast a ranged defensive spell.
