"We must somehow recover this soul's mate, and then the bodies must be returned to the warth."
Nov 11, 2016 4:17 pm
Erran dispels the translucent hand, not wanting to cause any further agitation to the spectral orb.

"Beast? And one that feeds off life force? Well, we're in for quite a negotiation then."
Nov 11, 2016 5:24 pm
"We won't need to negotiate with it. We won't even need to kill it. We need to avoid it. I didn't take this job to go after some soul-sucking demonic monstrosity and sign my own suicide note. I came to gather information and maybe even a few trinkets for the guild. That's it. If that thing's ever coming, I'm running the other way." She sighs, using her free hand to wipe a small trickle of cold sweat off her brow. "Do what you think you need to, but we shouldn't tarry here. There's a lot still left ahead."
OOC:
Pyrrah will help Devanis with the bodies, but she won't go nearer the orb than that.

I agree with Flare, I don't see how we can retrieve an eaten soul from some hellish beast. But I don't like leaving an unsolved problem behind us as we face the problems ahead of us. Ameera gestures to the walls I don't see their tombs here and I don't know how far the corpses were dragged by the beast. Can we put them in the soil somewhere nearby so that the Exhumed can at least take the woman, if this is even her? She turns to Devanis These were you neighbors, what will help them yet not put us in danger?
Nov 12, 2016 1:01 am
"I agree: Burying them both is the best we can do for now."
OOC:
Is there a decent patch of soil around?
Nov 12, 2016 5:27 am
Baric leans over the rubble, distracted as he mentally reconnects the pieces of the puzzle, noting aloud, Two women...Morro... and..., these aren't gods of death. Some are but who's this last one. She's... beautiful, or was. Certainly not Cenerine, not anyone I know.
OOC:
Feel free to ignore Baric's rambling and bring it up later or not at all.

Baric, what are you talking about? these bodies are a man woman.. and if you've a whisker of the skills of the undercity Dwarves, you can help find a suitable place to dig a grave for them.

Devanis can spot dirt that has fallen though broken holes in the ceiling (which reveal exposed earth), but even with all of it piled together it may not be enough to cover one of the bodies. Additionally, a true resting place would be within the ground, so that the Exhumed might collect a body without being obstructed by the stone floor of the crypt. Typically, bodies will be buried in holes in the floor or walls within crypts.

Within this room, there is no sign of such dirt-tombs.

The dark wisp pulses once more, sinking lower and closer toward the bodies as the party speaks to one another.

Right, Baric rights himself with only a hint of distraction directed towards the odd statue based on the age and arrangement of the the crypt, I should be able to locate an exit...

Pyrrah thinks hard for a moment, unsure if she should speak. "Look. I don't see anywhere to bury them in this cave, but we don't want to leave them here. Right? In my village, we had our own custom. A body left abandoned can be controlled by dark magic and evil spirits. Upon our deaths, bodies are set upon a pyre and burned with a relic of each of the four elements so that their souls could be released back to the primordial realm before life and death. It may not be their ritual, but would that be enough? "

OOC:
I feel that as an acolyte Devanis should know if a funeral pyre is acceptable and will allow the Exhumed access. Is a Religion roll necessary?
Nov 13, 2016 2:47 am
OOC:
I know I've mentioned to at least someone, but the path to the afterlife is most commonly perceived as going through the Exhumed. Your soul must be collected and dragged down into their world. It is commonly perceived as an eternal punishment to have your body entombed in stone (because then the Exhumed can't get to you) or for your body to be burned (because people then believe your soul will simply drift away with the ashes). This does not mean that this is believed everywhere, but it is the belief that is most common. Bracklewhyte does not burn its bodies, but that doesn't mean that burning the bodies of the dead is, in fact, an eternal punishment.
Nov 13, 2016 3:13 am
OOC:
That someone is probably me, but wasn't sure how a funeral pyre would be viewed. Thanks for the clarification! :-)
"Depending on what you believe, burning may or may not deny one access to the afterlife. I personally have nothing against a funeral pyre but that is not the way in Bracklewhyte where these people are from. Still, anything is better than just leaving them as they now lie, which I now realize is what we did with the first corpse found at the bottom of the shaft. I fear we may find yet more bodies soon."
Nov 13, 2016 7:33 am
As the group discusses their options, the floating light (or lack thereof) pulses once more and fades backward toward the corner of the room. Suddenly, a slam is heard from down the hallway nearest Devanis. Then another; this time anyone looking can see one of the wooden doors (the second one on the left) shudder. Someone, or something, on other side side is striking it. A third strike, and this time the wood of the door begins to break as the cracking of wood echoes across the stones.
Nov 13, 2016 12:55 pm
OOC:
Is there anything near by that we can use to brace the door to reinforce it and keep it from splintering?
OOC:
Why doth the bell toll for thee? Because thine dice crave thy's death, t'would seem...

Morro's blades! I don't want to see what that is. Maybe we can get behind that stronger door! Ameera dashes past the splintering door, giving it as much berth as possible, to try and open the door at the end of the hallway.

Seeing Ameera dash for the far door, Erran moves to position himself between the splintering door and his compatriots.

"lasau!"

With a flash of white light, Erran's sword is teleported from his sheath to his hands as he takes a defensive stance. "We might want to get a move on, lads and lasses!"
