Secret Roll

Nov 23, 2016 7:21 pm
Erran turns the handle and pushes the door open with his shoulder, and steps to the side of the door frame quickly. He peeks around the corner, looking to see what he can see.

Devanis speaks in hushed tones, "If we returned to Bracklewhyte with these eight paintings and nothing else, I expect the guild would consider our trip fruitful. Transporting them is a problem, however. We could strap them on our backs but that would be unwieldy and would risk damaging them. If only we had map cases we could remove the paintings from their frames and roll them up."

Devanis sighs, and eyes Erran as the elf shoulders through the door. "At any rate, I am not treating this as just another treasure-hunting foray for the guild. I have other motives here, as you already know."

Within the western door you see a long stretch of hallway, extending a few dozen feet at a slightly downward slope (due to the cant that the whole crypt appears to be on). On the walls, every few feet, are sections of wood nailed horizontally as though to cover something from floor to ceiling. They are spaced out about every 10 feet. Towards the end of the hallway, the tunnel actually turns somewhat. It does not appear remotely intended, as the stone walls are broken, crumbling, twisted and covered in dirt and roots that pour in from the breaks and cracks. The hallway twists to the side and seems to travel downward, out of side, as though wrenched into an awkward angle by the formation of the Rift.

Devanis nods to Erran and moves cautiously down the tunnel.

"Didnt I just say we shouldn't be stupid? And now you're wandering off without the party down unknown tunnels..." Pyrrah grumbles. Pyrrah reaffirms her grip on the torch and follows behind, nodding her head at those remaining that it might not be a bad idea to follow suit.

Devanis looks back sharply at Pyrrah but lets the comment go with a chuckle. He wasn't about to "wander off" of course, merely scouting ahead in order to report back anything of interest.

OOC:
Following anyway. Jeez, old man. Don't try to control me! :P

Ameera snaps out of her self imposed trance at the sound of Pyrrah's voice saying "stupid" and turns to see the heros tromping ahead. She hurries down the slope, as soon as she has made it half way, to Pyrrah she projects into Pyrrah's mind. Flare, those wooden covers on the walls are all tombs, like the one our first ghostly friends body was pulled from!

Pyrrah visibly flinches at the mental intrusion. She stops in her tracks and waits until Ameera is closer so no one else can here. "That's doesn't bode well. Let me know if you hear anything suspicious. I'll keep an ear out for anything that could be a threat as well." She shakes off the feeling and continues with what she was doing.

As a couple of the adventurers scout out the twisting, broken hallway, one of the boards---the second on the right, to be specific---shudders as something thumps it from within. The sounds of sharp somethings dragging or scratching at the boards from the other side can be heard.

Seeing nothing, Pyrrah springs backwards and leans the torch against the wall, knocking an arrow into her bow and holding it back, drawn and ready to fire. "Why is everything that's dead down here waking up all of a sudden? Cenerine must really want us dead... "
OOC:
I'm going to pull a ready action, just in case it decides to break through the wall. If it cracks through, I'm planting an arrow in its skull...

Archer, were you a part of— Baric swears quietly under his breath.

I thought that we were working as a team!, he says in a loud and clearly annoyed tone down the corridor. ...and here you running off.

Baric walks towards the crowding doorway at his left and says more conversationally,

Did you have anything to do with this temple? Because they revere Ceneri—[/b] Baric pauses mid sentence as he hears the rattling, and slides his knives from their sheaths.
OOC:
I don't believe you when you say that 'W' in the map only stands for Wooden Pannel. It was Wight a second ago and I'm not believing you until you show me otherwise.
Nov 24, 2016 8:55 am
Devanis whirls around at the noise and starts backpedaling towards Pyrrah. He has his crossbow aimed at the tomb, ready to shoot.
OOC:
Ready action to shoot if anything comes out.

The company waits for a few moments, weapons drawn and ready to take down whatever pushes through the wooden boards. However, that never happens. There is still the sound of something scratching from the other side, as well as the occasional thump, but it doesn't seem strong enough to actually push through the panels.
OOC:
Good catch, IQ! I'll have to be sneakier next time! :P
Nov 25, 2016 6:45 am
Skin crawling, Devanis utters a prayer for the soul to find rest. He turns to consult his companions, "What do you say? Do we push on this way? And do you think we should reinforce this feeble wooden barrier with another one of those beams?"
