Having now completely shaken off the manta creature's grip on his mind, Devanis magically marks the creature as his prey, then slashes at it with his dagger once more.

The damp cavern air flows by quickly and coolly and the pain of the rope against his shredding gloves starts to burn. Working to stop just above the water, Baric squeezes the rope with his whole body but doesn't brake in time. The frigid water envelops him as the rope slips through his raw fingers.

He takes a moment to right himself and swim to the surface, looking all around him as he does. He stops his instinctual inhale at the sight of the strange aquatic creature.

The Deep is supposed to be damp, but not wet, and fish should NEVER be this big.

He watches the creature then draws his daggers, observing its movements and readying some kind of strike, one blade moving baton-like to an internal rhythm as the drums of battle echo in his mind.

What checks do I need to make now that I'm in the water?

OOC:
As far as being in the water, you can move normally, except water will effectively count as difficult terrain, so every 5 ft costs 10 ft of movement. You can hold your breath for a number of minutes equal to 1 + CON mod before you begin suffocating. If you have a -1 CON mod, the minimum time you can hold your breath is 30 seconds. Once that time has run out, you have a number of rounds equal to your CON mod to get air. If you don't, you drop to 0 hp and begin dying. Each combat round is 6 seconds.

Everyone facing the monster is currently submerged, unless you choose to resurface. We'll say you guys are 10 feet deep, for the sake of movement, but I don't want to be picky about a 3D environment.

Ameera swims up close to the creature, emboldened by her magical armour. She attempts to swim above it and attack with her dagger from above, perhaps near the chain and hook protruding from its undulating body. Ameera grasps the dagger with both hands and thrusts out from her chest. As she is about to push the dagger with all of her might into the creature, she screams telepathically at its mind Dieeeeeeeeeee!

Nice! I like the swimming above it. Lets say that you're flanking for that, so go ahead and roll advantage. Additionally, anyone else attacking this turn can roll with advantage (or cancel out their disadvantage if not using one of the weapons I mentioned)

Ameera flutter kicks her feet while stabbing at the creature, whos attention focuses on hurting Ameera's companions

Being left alone with his thoughts as Baric rappels down to the water below, Errands thinks back on all the times in his youth that he had forgone offers to go swimming with his peers in exchange for weapons training, now regretting those decisions.

He looks down at his beloved coat of chain and plate, momentarily at the tunnel from which he came, and then down at the water below.

We're Escolants, we die bravely before we live as cowards.

The words of his father, in which he seemed to predict his own demise, ring in his ears as Erran musters his courage and let's himself fall into the water with a battle cry.

"Yaaaaahh!"
OOC:
Using my full turn to fall into the water, wasn't sure if checks were still required so included them.

Sorry to be a broken record, but I will have "shield" ready to be cast as a reaction.

If Pyrrah could have cursed while under the waves, she would have. Devanis was free from the tentacle and had every option to slip away to the safety of dry land, and yet he chooses to fight? She was down here for the cash: what type of madness burned in the hearts of these crazy adventurers that they would not flee when afforded the opportunity?
'Their madness must be contagious... ' she thinks as she slashes her dagger at the nearest appendage.

Rolls

Attack-Advantage??? I think?? - (1d20+5, 1d20+5)

1d20+5 : (17) + 5 = 22

1d20+5 : (5) + 5 = 10

Damage + Sneak Attack (Since everyone so close) - (1d4+3, 2d6)

1d4+3 : (4) + 3 = 7

2d6 : (15) = 6

Erran leaps from the hole in the ceiling, plummeting sixty feet down into the water. He is only barely able to keep his feet beneath him and not strike the water at a most painful angle. Plunging into the lake, he is able to see what the others saw moments ago.

Ameera and Pyrrah both slash and stab at the creature from different angles. Though it twists and writhes, wriggling through the water with snake-like movements and a wicked agility, their daggers manage to land solid strikes on its body, even if not in the exact place they intended.

Baric struggles forward in the water and tries to use one of his daggers to latch onto the strange creature, opening the other dagger to repeatedly stab the beast.

OOC:
Are we back to player turn? I was waiting for the manta to act.
Jan 19, 2017 7:46 pm
OOC:
Sorry, that's my fault. I thought we were still waiting on an action and we weren't. I'll post up the results and the mantas turn (if he has one) today.

In addition to Ameera and Pyrrah's attacks, both Baric and Devanis manage to cut the creature with their own blades. Baric's dagger drives into it, but as the beast whips away from him, the blade slips free of its flesh. The manta creature emits another shriek that causes the water around you to vibrate uncomfortably, and your vision to blur. It does not seem interested in continuing this fight against the lot of you, and disengages from the fight, swimming past Devanis in an undulating motion with its long tentacles extending lazily behind it. It is difficult to see through the waters, especially as its movement kicks up clouds of dirt from the bottom of the lake and forms a series of bubbles, and it soon disappears from sight. The clouds of blood from Devanis' wound that drifts in the water appear to be mixing with a clear, non-water fluid; it is almost imperceptible within the lake water itself, but may be some colorless lifeblood of the manta.
Jan 21, 2017 1:06 am
Ameera uses her telepathy to yell to DevanisNo no old man, we all came in here after you. Your getting out of here alive with the rest of us. and she swims towards him. She sheaths her knife and attempts to grabs him by the back of his coat, and with the intent to swim straight upwards, dragging him behind.
OOC:
I'll give a couple of athletics checks, for the swim and the pull.

Rolls

Athletics for swimming to him - (1d20-1)

(12) - 1 = 11

Athletics for swimming/pulling - 2 in case of advantage/disadvantage - (1d20-1, 1d20-1)

1d20-1 : (14) - 1 = 13

1d20-1 : (20) - 1 = 19

Seeing Ameera taking care of Devanis, Pyrrah swims for the surface and for shore where her pack waits in the heap where she left it.
OOC:
Dash action to swim harder and to go further. Do I need another check? I feel like I've rolled so many...
Jan 21, 2017 7:27 am
Glad I wasn't riding when he left in such a hurry. Rude. The party was just starting.

Surfacing, Baric looks around and begins swimming towards the same edge as the others. Once there he clambers onto the shore and lies, exhausted on his back.
Jan 21, 2017 9:24 am
After some time, a great deal of splashing and gasping for air, the party of explorers manage to swim their way to the shore of the lake. Devanis, still with a bloody wound around his ankle, is aided by Ameera, who helps to support him as best she can. The wound itself continues to drip blood.

Looking around yourselves, the cavern seems relatively empty, aside from all of the fungi and plantlife that seems to be growing, especially around the edges of the lake and the walls of the cave. In between it seems to mostly be rock and the occasional stalagmite. A man-sized tunnel lies not far from you, illuminated in a blue hue by the fungi, though at an angle that you cannot see far into it. Otherwise, the cavern seems peaceful and relaxing, with the occasional drip or trickle of water. Of course, it would be more relaxing if you had not found that thing within the lake.
OOC:
The athletics was only needed for the rope. Though I didn't expressly say not to roll athletics when swimming in the lake, you technically do not need to. You're welcome to do so if you'd like, and I won't penalize you for it if it's a bad roll that wasn't needed in the first place (I'd rather you roll than not, if you were uncertain, just to save time). Ameera did it because she wanted to swim especially fast and because I forgot to tell XOSkel10 that it wasn't necessary, when I was asked. Since the lake is stagnant---no current and the like---there isn't a need for a check until something comes up to cause for one. Pulling Devanis along, were he unable to help himself, could cause for a check, but he's able to swim alright. Otherwise you just move at half speed. That's how I see it, anywho.

"Thank you all for coming to my aid. I did not expect to be more burden than guide to you down here." It's plain to see the graying ranger is pretty shook up about the encounter for some reason. He sits on the shore and removes his boot to examine his bleeding ankle.
OOC:
Using my healer's kit to bandage it up. Is this thing going to be a problem?

Rolls

Medicine - (1d20+3)

(17) + 3 = 20

Jan 22, 2017 3:29 pm
"Well, let's not worry about that now. Just remember it when we are splitting the loot, if we ever find any." She smiles. "Other than the water, this seems like a relatively safe spot. There is a passage over there, and a more level area over there, but that about all I found before you decided to make friends with a jellyfish. I think Zubie and I will look around again after a few minutes breather." Ameera sits down near her gear and looks at the damage to her armour and her body, although all is still covered with a frosty gleam. "How long has it been since we came down here? I haven't kept track of the time."

OOC:
You can freely tell that it's been a few hours, at least. If you'd like to know a more exact time, feel free to make a flat Intelligence check.
