The hole is the split. Sorry, I could've described it better. Think of a fork in the road, but one goes straight and the other slopes downward.

"It's curious there aren't more of those glowing mushrooms," Devanis whispers. He scouts ahead cautiously, taking the higher route.
Feb 8, 2017 4:21 am
Baric stands cautious at a short distance behind the scouts, trying to determine what the source of the alarm was or could have been.

"Devanis, don't you see that floating wyrd symbol you are about to walk through? I think it meant to indicate a City, and I think it is an ancient form of Dwarvish... although it isn't actually the symbol for City... I don't understand why that would be...." she shakes her head as if to clear her thoughts "Anyway, that'd be a good sign right? It means we'd be on the right path to some interesting, and hopefully lucrative, discoveries." Ameera turns to the hole leading downward. "Flare, you seemed to know about those Necrowhatsit worm things that made the hole down here from the crypt, do you think this was made by the same worm?"

Pyrrah shakes her head. "No. The book said that these things were big, but not this big. They couldn't have made anything like this. Plus the ground isn't churned up like the tunnel we were in last time. I'm not saying there isn't some monster down there, but it certainly isn't a Necrolid. " She tries to trace her hand just above the sigil, following the flow of the script. "Definitely Dwarvish in origin. I speak it pretty fluently. Devanis, was there anything in the records about an old Dwarven city in this area? "

OOC:
Would Baric, if he's able to see it, recognize or remember anything specific about the sigil or surrounding stone work?
Feb 9, 2017 3:29 am
"Flare, the odd thing is that even though the sign is for City, the actual symbol itself means Life. Maybe it's not important and it just means that the city is where people live." Turning to the dwarf she says "Baric, is there some less obvious connection between city and life in Dwarven culture? The Dwarven folk I dallied with never got into philosophical conversations, so I really know nothing."

OOC:
Baric, Devanis and Erran are unfortunately unable to see it, despite Ameera pointing it out. As far as the stonework, feel free to make a roll! As well as a history roll for Ameera's question, if you'd like.

"I'm afraid I don't see any sigil." Devanis says, pausing in his tracks. "And nothing in the histories and records of an old dwarven city, although..." the old ranger knits his eyebrows and shakes his head "There is a legend, more like old wives' tales, about a subterranean city complex, inhabited by a race quite unlike the dwarves we know. Some of the stories call the city Ugartta or Agartt or some such. It's said the city is the home of twelve so-called Masters of the World who influence events on the surface." Devanis shakes his head again. "It's all rubbish, of course." He doesn't sound very convinced.

"Seraph," Devanis asks the sword with his thoughts, "can you help us? Do you see the sigil? Do you know of a dwarven city here?"

A lot of just rolls at the moment.

History of the Life and City, Expertise - (1d20+4)

History of the Stonework, Expertise, Stone Cunning - (1d20+6)

Erran stops and takes a step back as Ameera brings attention to the unseen sigil. He raises an eyebrow while listening to Devanis and Ameera elaborate, he ask the ranger,

"Would you rule out the possibility of there being some sort of civilization still down here? The possible alarm and this supposed sigil make me believe there could be."

Erran's hand drifts towards his sidearm as he gives his surroundings a causal look over for any obvious sign of traps. He adds,

"Also, those otherworldly creatures that the town people spoke of when the ground first split, had to have come from somewhere."
Feb 10, 2017 11:03 am
"Oh, yes, I see it!" Seraph says loudly to nothing in particular. "I don't know of-.. oh." The blade goes quiet.

"You are right, Erran. Clearly, there is some truth to the stories." Devanis pauses as Seraph speaks up. As the sword trails off, Devanis relays the rest of the message: "Seraph says he's not aware of any ancient cities here either."
Feb 10, 2017 11:22 pm
That seems like no Dwarvish I know of, but the build of this seems to look like a highway, something odd considering that we just came from a lake with a chained up death fish.

...

There could be civilizations, or shells of them. But I don't think those... things... would have any part of one.
Feb 11, 2017 1:15 am
"I, for one, am dying to find out. Let's go check it out." She pauses... "well, perhaps not the best choice of words"
