Loudly enough that everyone would be able to hear

When Devanis is close to Ameera, she whispers into his mind I think we took it down, we should take a look at it, carefully, and perhaps make an effort to hide the body from sight so we won't draw any more immediate attention. Let me check with Zubie, see if he is up there and whether the coast is clear. With that sound that you triggered, whoever it is may know we're here anyway. Ameera loses focus in her eyes and tries to trance into Zubies mind. Whats going on up there my friend, let me see what you are seeing, hear what you are hearing.

Neph, frantically looking about, seems to have an idea dawn on her, and she twists her hands into a magical gesture. She pulls something free from a pouch on her belt and an inky blackness spreads into the air. It stands still, hovering a moment, until it spells out words for those within range to read...

Ameera and Devanis, please be aware that reading the spoiler may, well... spoil things.

Zubie come back, it may not be safe. Ameeras eyes snap back into focus on the ranger "Devanis, it's a grey skinned creature with pointed ears, smaller than us, but not like Neph. I didn't see wings. There's something else though, unseen, that feels like a trap. Maybe we shouldn't run in without the others backing us up."
OOC:
no, I didn't read the spoiler

Pyrrah reads the words quickly, comprehension dawning. She stands and shouts down the tunnel, her bow immediately snapping back into her hands, "Get away from it!!! Now! It's a Shadowkin!"
Feb 18, 2017 5:08 pm
Heeding both Ameera and Pyrrah's warning, Devanis stands clear of the fallen Shadowkin. He lowers himself into his usual tracker's crouch and waits for the others to catch up.

Ameera again mentally speaks Devanis, let's pull back. The others don't seem to be coming.

Devanis nods, and backs away slowly. He's reluctant to leave, wanting to observe the body and this trap Ameera mentioned. But being more his sensible old self than he has since acquiring Seraph, he follows Ameera back to the others. "What's going on? What's with all the yelling?"

The scene, though perhaps tense, does not immediately erupt into violence like one might expect from Pyrrah's warning. The creature remains lying still - dead, perhaps - even as Ameera and Devanis back away until it is beyond their field of vision, encased in shadows. Zubie comes out of his invisibility as everyone regroups, standing beside Ameera.

Neph looks relieved, and makes foreign gestures toward Pyrrah that involve a lot of flickering wings and happy facial expression; gratitude, perhaps?

Devanis wishes he could understand the Neph's words and gestures. She seems such an innocent, wild being, as all fey kin are. "Oh, Cenerine." he breathes.

Rapier out and a dagger ready to drum, the words stop him. As Devanis and Zubie return, Baric calls in reply, The fey told us that it's a trap.

It seems like she's seen this sort of thing before.

"I'll see what she was trying to tell us, I don't know what that was that we took down, it had ears and clothing like hers, but it wasn't the same."

Neph, what is wrong? We saw something else strange near the one we stopped. Well, saw is the wrong word, there was something that seemed to be there but we couldn't see it. Ameera kneels again to eye level with Neph.
Feb 19, 2017 4:33 am
"I wish I knew what she was saying! What do you know about these Shadowkin, little one?"

Devanis sends his thoughts to Erran, "Seraph, can you help me? Can you understand her speech? Can you tell me what she's saying?"
Feb 20, 2017 5:12 am
Erran lets out a sigh of relief as Devanis and Ameera reappear from the dark tunnel unscathed. Unable to help retrieve any information, he leaves his sword drawn but rests it across his shoulders protected with steel.

He keeps his eyes and ears open for any other threat that may be lurking in the dark.

This place just gets more and more strange...
