Eugen sneaks along the wall around the little bulge. He crouches and lights the last candle to get an idea of where he is and what the sorroundings are.
OOC:
Seems like Eugen is separated from the group a little. But I asume lighting a candle there is safe. The glimmer of the light should be in a shadow-of-sight in regards to the hole we came in.

A hand strikes Thomas in the chest, and he nearly yelps before he realizes the Lady Bishop has shoved a pack of matches at him. He quickly takes and pockets them in the pocket with the candle stub. Without warning a candle flares to life. Thomas spins around to stare at Eugen. He quickly takes in his surroundings, stunned slightly by the new light, realizing that even dim light seems bright in total darkness.
OOC:
Now that there is a light Thomas would like to quickly survey the area before taking further action.

Clara feels her way round to the east wall and finds more debris under foot and some leaning against the wall. Her hand brushes against one and it feels like wood.

The strike of a match in the southwest of the room, lights up the figure of the archaeologist and as he puts the flame to the fourth candle, it flickers, lighting up most of the room you are in.

The room is roughly the same size as the antechamber and dominated by a large open sarcophagus made if gold. On the floor surrounding it is shattered wood of various sizes, from splinters to large pieces. Some of the larger pieces appear to have scenes painted on them.

A pair of wooden oars stand in the far corner of the chamber (beside Robert.) To the south an archway leads into the darkness.

Thomas looks around and sees nothing of immediate use to help their escape. He moves and quickly and quietly as he is able to Eugen.
"Quickly Mr. Chornyi, to the archway. Let us see if our escape may be made there," he leans in and speaks quietly, then motions for Eugen to move south so they can peer in with the light.

Robert can hear a sharp intake of breath as Lady Bishop is surprised by the sudden light. She blinks a couple of times and then looks about the room before checking what her hand had brushed while blindly following the wall. What she thought was wood was truly a wooden oar and the crunchy items beneath her feet were, fortunately, just wooden debris. She quickly puts her pen knife away and grabs a wooden oar for protection, following after Thomas and Eugen to the opening she has been searching for.

Robert's eyes got dazed by the sudden light, but he blinked it into focus. He was surprised to see the enormous scale of the golden sarcophagus, but his thought went out to wild speculation about what was kept inside it. Was the creature that stalked them kept inside this? He was brought back to reality as Lady Clara took one of the oars. Following her, he too took the other one and crept towards the southern arch.

Eugen had put the satchel away to light the last candle.
OOC:
I did not do it actively, but somewhere above it was narrated that way, so I'll follow along.
"Let's move on. Everyone here?", he whispers.

He tries to move forward carefully, holding the candle high up to cast as much light as possible into the darkness.

"We better get some wooden pieces and fabric, if available. Would serve us as torch and weapon."
OOC:
What do we see?
Can we still hear the creature? Does it move fast or slow, in general? Have we been able to estimate this?

OOC:
From what you could tell when you were in the same room, it was moving slowly, like a stalking animal. Now the sounds are frenetic in the antechamber, you imagine the thing looking for you. It's only a matter of time..

Eugen leads the way through a short corridor and into a square room about half the size of the burial chamber. The room is filled with an assortment of treasures; fragile artwork, sculptures, ceramics, small boats and chariots made from gold, and even a model of an entire Egyptian city. There don't appear to be any exits from this room.

Thomas looks around, anxiety starting to creep in. He desperately searches for anything that may be helpful, or a clue as to the nature of the creature in the other room.

Thomas starts to search through the treasures, and although he finds no clues as the nature of the room he does find a stone chest, hidden from view.
OOC:
Can I take HARD listen rolls from everyone please.

Thomas looks at the plain stone chest, tucked away under all the baubles, as if someone didn't want it to be noticed among the glamor.

Robert is at a loss to see that the next room ended up as a dead end. But there should be someway to get out! This tomb should not have one and only entrance! He sighed in exasperation. But he went closer to the wall to see if there were any heiroglyps that he could translate. He also looked for some hidden entrance, some misaligned wall structure that could perhaps reveal some room on the other side.
OOC:
I am giving both a spot hidden and listen roll.

As Lady Bishop follows the others to the next room, she grips hard the oar in her hand and leans on it in despair upon finding no other exit from the room. They were quickly running out of air and light with some sort of monster roaming this tomb. They may very well end up in a more grisly end than the poor fellow they met earlier. A solitary tear drips onto the ground, but she sniffs hard and refocuses on the task at hand. She was not going to meet her Maker without giving it everything she had!

Though she is fascinated for a moment by the miniature Egyptian city, she focuses on attempting some sort of barricade or cover against the ghastly creature stalking them. She tries to leverage the carriage forward with her oar to cover the entrance. She also plans to push over some statues onto the creature and takes a moment to listen for its location now.

"By Imhoteps beard."

Eugen curses as they end up in what he had expected in such tombs but hoped to not happen: a dead end. At least at first glance.
He quickly looks around, trying to make sense of the room and it's interior.
OOC:

Doing the hard listen roll and one for archeology. Maybe we can find something.

Robert followed the sound source and tried to find where it was coming from.
OOC:
Is it coming from the chest?
Mar 15, 2025 8:40 am
OOC:
Yes
Mar 15, 2025 9:26 am
Closing on the chest he whispered to Thomas, "Mr. Ackerman, I can hear faint beating sounds emanating from this chest. I say we check it."

He slowly dragged out the chest and tried to gently open the lid.

Which Chest are we talking about? We're in the small room — drawing above, right?
