Jotna looks at the others and says, "Oi any of you lot got a keen eye? Or good with mechanisms? Come take a peek at this and see if it's safe to open, eh?"

@Drgwen in your last post it seems you're looking for a second opinion. But your roll is high enough to realize the door is not trapped. Since you said "If she sees nothing suggesting it is unsafe, she tries to open it" previously, I'm going to assume you open it ;)
With a calculated risk, Jotna tries to open the door but finds out it's locked. She rattles it to no avail. The heavy oak is tough as nails.

However, shortly after you hear a few clicks and the door swivels open slowly. A lightly perfumed breeze comes through, reminding you of flowers in spring time. As the door opens, you see a nicely decorated entrance hall of a mansion. Vases with flowers on top of antique tables, intricate rugs, great chandeliers, paintings and all kinds of things you'd expect to see in a mansion like this are visible in the well lit room.
Butler

A man in a dark suit, who just opened the door, stands before you. He's got a slim tall figure and an oval face. He is neatly trimmed and well looked after. "Ah, welcome in, sirs and madams." He says as he gestures you to enter.

Those who do, can see the room has a high ceiling with tall windows which allow sunlight in. Which is strange for two reasons. One; You're pretty sure you're underground. Two; There hasn't been a sun like this for a while now. Another thing strikes you as odd. On the left wall as you come in, a large staircase leads up to a second floor. Yet there is no second floor. The stairs simply run into the ceiling and stop there as if they forgot to put in a second floor but decided to build the stairs anyway for no reason.

"Please take off your shoes. Lady Malista doesn't like dirty prints all over the place." He offers you some clean slippers instead.

What does everyone do?
Apr 18, 2025 12:14 pm
Borda eyes the interior, judging the value of the things he see's. Making a mental note of what to return for, he slips off his worn boots and steps into the offered slippers.
Apr 18, 2025 12:24 pm
Merkari kicks off her boots, wiggling her toes in the slippers. "Comfy!" she declares. Grinning, she steps inside and looks around the room, thinking nothing of its odd placement underground. "Nice place ya got here! What's the rent like?"
Apr 18, 2025 12:32 pm
Elma
Elma looks about the place in awe. She wonders if the dreamers she has sent here have really arrived to the same place she has now. As the man offers slippers, she looks down at her shoeless feet and shrugs her shoulders.

"W-why, don't mind if I do."

She visibly relaxes with the warm clean slippers, but still looks around suspiciously. Is there any evidence people have arrived before them?

"I believe the place is not for rent, ma'am" The butler says to Merkari. "But any such inquiries should be directed to the lady of the manor. I am merely the one keeping things in order."
Butler

Elma

You don't spot any sign of other people having been here. But seeing the surroundings here, there is a good chance that even if people have been through here, any sign of them would have been cleaned up. It does appear they run a tight ship here. Perhaps one of the cupboards might hold the answer.

Borda

You spot many things of value like golden and silver candle holders, fancy paintings and frames, decorations with what could be gold filigree.

Jotna mutters, "Oh great, I fell asleep again. What a weird dream..."

Then, to the butler, she says, "Sure, yeah, I'll play along. So when do we get to meet this Malista lady?" She slides off her flithy, stinking shoes and slides her filthy stinking feet into the slippers with a sigh of comfort.

Elma
Elma looks suspiciously at the cupboards around the room, but has just enough self-control to not lunge towards the nearest one and open it. She will wait until the butler's back is turned.

"So where is the lady of the manor? Not up those stairs I presume?"

She makes another creepy smile and jerks her oil lamp in the direction of the stairs that lead into the ceiling.

"Lady Malista is waiting for you in the dining room." The man tells you. "It's through that door and then take your first left. I would normally escort you, but I'm under strict orders to wait by the door for anymore guests. I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding your way."
Butler

After this he goes back to stand by the door. Although not giving you his full attention, he is still keeping an eye on you in a hospitable way.

"Well, let's go meet the Lady!" Merkari says. With a manic giggle, she leads the way through the indicated door.

OOC:
If anyone still wants to do or try something in the entrance hall, feel free. Here is the description of the next room already.
The door opens up into a very cozy looking room. Nicely upholstered chairs and sofas are placed in a configuration to allow for a cozy gettogether. The wall is adorned with animal heads. Everything from a deer to a lion can be seen. All looking lifelike and dangerous, though they are not moving and most likely not alive anymore, seeing as they are missing a large chunk of their body. There are no people here.

Through cracks in the ceiling tree roots as thick as broomsticks come down into the room. It seems that not everything in this house is perfectly kept, though it doesn't take much away from the calm vibe. In between the different heads there are weapons on the wall. Crossed swords, bows, crossbows, shields and spears are used as decoration.

Two distinct smells hit your nostrils as you enter. The first is that of cigar smoke. You can guess that this is a room where people like to have a smoke. The second is the smell of delicious food. Fried meat and gravy, if you were to guess.

There is a door to the west and one to the east. The butler told you to take a left, which would be the west door. But the heavenly smell is definitely coming form the east.

What would you like to do?

Jotna keeps an eye on that weird butler and walks into the game room. "whoa, get a load of this place..." she mutters. She walks over and examines the weapons on the wall. Are they real? Removable? Anything special? Etc.

Then she sniffs and says, "Do you smell that?! Ugh this lady better be moving whatever she wants to the dining room quick or I'm busting in there. I've been eating nothing but lard for two days. Well, and a few bugs as a lizard. Hey, don't judge me."

Elma
With the butler keeping a watchful eye on their shoes and them, Elma shrugs her shoulders and follows Jotna to the next room. She sees what looks familiar, but suspicious holding up the ceiling. She narrows her eyes and then is distracted by the wonderful smells.

"O-oh, it's the kitchen. That makes sense. Then we should head to the dining room and let the butler serve us, right? I wonder who else they think is joining us."
OOC:
Any cupboards to investigate in the game room?
Apr 23, 2025 7:23 am
OOC:
There are some smaller cupboards in the game room. Anyone who wants to do a search can roll a DR12 presence test.
Since this is an OSR game, you can basically always "search the room". But you might also find something you didn't want to find :)
Apr 23, 2025 12:15 pm
Borda looks at Elma, "That waif may have the right of it...". Aloud, he continues his thought, "Aye, the dining room must be next, no reason getting to attached to the goods here, at least, not until after."

Elma
Elma tries to see if the butler is still watching, but then gives up. She will just follow the group to the dining room and consider raiding the cupboards later. The delicious smells make her stomach growl involuntarily.

Jotna cannot resist looking around a bit in the Game Room on her way to the door to the left, as instructed.

@Drgwen roll 2d6 as well, please.
Anyone doing a "search the room" action can always include a 2d6 roll.

Hidden behind one of the seats near the wall you spot something that seems out of place. Among this well preserved room you see a very rusty oil lamp. Perhaps someone tucked it away behind the furniture to get rid of it.

What do you do?
OOC:
Anyone else looking around?

Let me know when you guys want to continue to the next room. If I understand correctly, you're taking the door to the west.
