We've got to take that thing out to end this once and for all! Jandral strains his eyes towards the spire and scans the sky.
OOC:
Fire Bolt if I spot it.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+5)

(10) + 5 = 15

Jandral believes he sees something along the silhouette of the spire. Whether or not it is the creature he spotted before or just a peculiar rock formation is difficult to tell.

Seeing Jandral focus his attention on particular spot, Golwen zeros in on that same area to see if he can discern anything.

Rolls

Perception - (1D20+4)

(11) + 4 = 15

OOC:
Am I done for this turn or can I still act?
Jan 3, 2017 4:13 pm
OOC:
Sorry, forgot to mention that you can roll to hit with Firebolt or perform another action.
Golwen, perhaps, sees the same thing as Jandral. Again, it is difficult to tell if what he sees is a creature, or part of the rock spire.
Jan 3, 2017 4:53 pm
Jandral wishes he could be sure of his target but he decides to take a chance. Shipping his oar for the moment he draws back his arm and hurls a fiery bolt at the shadowy form on the rock spire.

Rolls

Fire Bolt, damage - (1d20+7, 1d10)

1d20+7 : (7) + 7 = 14

1d10 : (10) = 10

While mainting his grip on the waterlogged sailor, Rhodrick raises a fist and hammers it down on the top of the man's head, hoping to jar him back to his senses.

Rolls

Unarmed Strike - 3 bludgeoning damage on hit - (1d20+4)

(5) + 4 = 9

The arcane bolt of flame splits the night sky. It illuminates the rock spire and splashes against not stone, but flesh. For a brief moment, everyone can see a winged woman clinging to a niche in the rock. She is disheveled and lean with long claws at the end of her hands and sharp talons on her feet. Her wings briefly flare out as Jandral's fire bolt impacts, and a harsh unnatural shriek can be heard. The song, however, continues.

Inside the boat, the sailor in Rhodrick's grasp is knocked unconscious and becomes limp in his lap.
OOC:
Actions left to take:
Golwen
Haesh
Tordek
Jan 3, 2017 8:06 pm
Haesh continues to ring the bell... He hopes his friends are okay.
Jan 3, 2017 8:44 pm
Seeing the momentary illumination of the foul winged creature, Golwen lances his hand forward and unleashes a fiery bolt of his own.

Rolls

Firebolt - (1D20+6)

(19) + 6 = 25

Damage - (1D10)

(2) = 2

Jan 4, 2017 12:06 am
Another blast of fire illustrates the impact of Golwen's magic upon the creature, followed by another shriek of pain. Still, the song continues. Everyone sees the figure withdraw further into the rocky spire as the flames die out.

OOC:
Is Tordek by the boat or not?
Jan 4, 2017 6:16 am
Jandral's gaze jerks upward as Golwen's bolt of flame streaks overhead and hits the creature. He thinks to himself, "I just hope there's only one of those things!"

OOC:
Golwen is in the jolly boat. He was "volunteered" by the first mate to tag along.

Tordek is not by the boat, having just dunked the charm out of a sailor. He is about 20 feet away from the boat and the two sailors next to the image of a mermaid, 50 feet away from a third sailor swimming toward the rock spire.
Jan 4, 2017 7:57 am
Tordek begins to swim as quickly as possible after the next closest sailor, intending to try and close the gap between them.
OOC:
Using the Dash action. I don't believe that gets me close enough to actually interact with the sailor.

OOC:
Well call me a drunken sailor! So sorry about that! Will edit my post.

The dwarf manages to catch up to the two sailors facing the illusory mermaid, with Parallel nearby. "My love! I'm here!" cries one of the men. "Take me in your arms, fair lass!" speaks the other, after coughing out some water.

Captain Yokgrumli, seeing the magical Fire Bolts strike the creature at the spire, shouts, "Get some light up there!" The first mate hurries to retrieve some longbows, while the crewmen begin to wrap oil-soaked rags around a few arrows.

The third charmed sailor continues swimming as fast as he can, drawing to within 60 feet of the spire.
CancerMan sent a note to Tsavo
OOC:
Player Turn!

As a reminder, Jandral, Golwen, Rhodrick, and two sailors (one rowing, one unconscious) are in the 6-person jolly boat. Parallel and Tordek are in the water. Haesh is on the Red Cutter, to which another freed sailor is swimming.

"The foul, singing beast is taking refuge behind the spires. We need to either lure it out or get a better angle for a ranged attack." Golwen shouts to anyone who can hear.

He then sends a quick mental query to Rhevia asking her, Is the singing beast alone? Keep your watch but keep your distance, friend. Remain safe.
