@nezzeraj edit: not lemming I’m just focusing on your spends to start with.

It’s quite hard work checking since health, stability start at 1 and san at 4. But i think you are 3 points short on general abilities (spent just 62?: 23 on health, stab, san, 39 on all others?).

But you might have spent one extra on investigative skills (6 on Ac, 8 on Interp, 3 on Tech). i’m including the increase in credit rating from 2 to 3.

Even though I don’t think we need sources of stability for a ‘core only’ rules game, we do need pillars of stability. 1 for every 3 stability points.

And yes obv a few bits of equipment— no need to ‘buy’ these, just make them consistent with your credit rating.

I haven't done my character yet, so I presume this was supposed to be for one of the others?

OK I've submitted Professor Emma Warren!

Yeah I think I used the rule where you can spend 3 general on 1 investigative ability. I made it pretty late so my mind was fuzzy lol. I'll add some pillars of stability.

@Drgwen The sheet looks good. I’m not able to check the point spend as there’s no indication of which skills are half-price professional skills ( these would normally be asterisked, coloured or such). If we did go forward to a further adventure that would need to be clarified, but we can keep things like that for this trial run.

I wish we knew more about character’s possessions, so I think I might make a standard kit list in a separate thread to standardise this. I’ll ask about character’s clothing and appearance in the opening posts.

@Lemming23 Since we know the party professions (Ctme has chosen hobo) , I can see that my investigation requires someone with technical know-how—physics, chemistry, mechanics. That could be handled in different ways: scientist, doctor but also military, criminal, pilot. I’ll leave it to you to choose a concept that’s enjoyable and I’ll identify any gaps in their skills.

I listed them at the top of the sheet, I think? Under "Occupational Benefits".

OK, here's my Melody mark 2!
[ +- ] skills
I lowered various Occupational skills (Investigative side) to free up 2 Investigative build points per point lowered. These I distributed in:
-Art History, from her private tuition
-Cryptography, from her hobbies. She had a phase, then got bored of course
-Bureaucracy, from dealing with inheritance lawyers at the death of her parents
-Intimidation, "you don't know who you're dealing with!' sounds like a stance she could have used
-Reassurance
-Astronomy, another of her brief hobbies
-Locksmith, she practiced this during late childhood, on the doors of rooms that grownups prevented her to go in. Amazing what a hair pin and a little fiddling can do.
I lowered Occupational skill 'Sense Trouble' (General side) to free up 4 General build points: added 1 point to
-First Aid her Athletics antics often resulted in injuries

traded 3 Genral build points to gain another Investigative point, that I added to
-Architecture (from her travels abroad, she's seen Pyramids, Palaces, Roman ruins)

Hm, still a bit of a headache. I’ll take your word that the adding up is correct!

@Dr_B This is much more of a ‘conventional’ build and certainly covers more bases. i note that’s she’s still boasting big pools in driving and firearms which will mean she can stay in the story spotlight for those skills throughout an adventure.

i like the rationale for the skill choices— great characterisation!

Thanks! I can lower driving/firearms if it's better.

some NPC portraits of her significant people, if needed! (I will also paste them in the character sheet)

Roderick the butler

Jasper, brother

Patricia, friend

i think the significant people pics are fun. Definitely add them even if we skip the sources if stability rule for now.

Let’s please keep the high driving, shooting ratings! Those can be her ‘thing’.

I’ve added an equipment thread for those (like me) who are a bit more interested in specifying gear. Starting with a list of ‘standard’ gear so players can focus on more particular, signature items.

If you are not interested, that’s fine—i’ll assume possession of the gear listed in the first post plus the key items listed on your character sheet. Otherwise please provide a post that indicates any additions/ variations to my list for your character.

Let me know if you think anything’s missing from the ‘standard’ lists (maybe I’m overlooking items ubiquitous in the ‘20s )

From what I can tell, DrGwen has spent 15 BP and 66 general - so over by 1 general, and under by 1 BP. 1 BP = 3 general, so you could spend either another 2 general or remove 1 general and add 1 BP. :)

thanks for checking! That would have been a pen and paper job for me.

I wouldn't think of converting BPs in that way (unless using the optional rule for players trading skills).

@DrGwen, since Lemming's done this work--would you please add one more Investigative skill point and lose one in General Skills?

Thanks for post on the 'gear' thread, @Dr_B ! It really brings the character to life, especially as she does have so many possessions that could come into play.

Oh! Thanks for doing the math, Lemming! I'll spend 2 more general

Something else I just noticed is that you have your occupation’s special ability to add.

There’s an online list of those here for those without the complete handbook.

For the prof these are as follows:
As long as your academic credentials are intact (a Credit Rating of 3+), using Bureaucracy lets you enjoy nearly unrestricted access to closed library stacks, research laboratories, and even many private and government archives. If you have a Credit Rating of 5 or better, you have tenure and cannot be removed from your professorship without clear, public evidence of moral turpitude on your part.

V interesting post in the equipment thread, btw. Really brings Emma to life.
