Not a long time ago...
Lights flickered weakly. Dust floated like ash in stagnant air. Brenya So’luppa padded barefoot across the durasteel, robes soot-stained.Her big Gungan eyes swept the dark ahead, wide and unblinking. She didn’t know where she was going — only that the Force still whispered. Left. Down. Stop. Wait.

Another breath. Another hallway. And then—

Pain.

Not hers. Someone else's. White-hot and jagged, buzzing in the air like a torn powerline. Brenya winced, hand going to her chest as she felt it — a scream without sound, echoing through the Force.

She moved faster. Past a collapsed bulkhead. Over a sparking pipe. Through a torn hatch wedged open with a lightsaber hilt—long extinguished.

And there she was.

Crumpled against the wall like a discarded doll, was a girl.

A human. Maybe seventeen. Long-limbed. Pale. Her robes were shredded, burned. Both legs were ruined —blackened, half gone below the thigh. Her left arm—Brenya winced—was nothing but blood and bone and torn flesh. She’d tried to crawl, leaving a smeared trail behind her, but her body had given up. And her face—what was left of it—was still beautiful, beneath the blood and grime.

She was still alive. Barely.

Brenya dropped beside her, trembling. "Hey. Hey, hey, no-no-no-no sleeping, okee-day? Issa fine. Messa help. You’sa gonna live, okee-day?"

My! I have missed quite a bit these past few days. Apologies for being somewhat incommunicado--work and life did those things they do.

I'm in the process of writing something up and will post it here in the next few hours!

Drgwen,

Feel free to make a connection with Ka'el... My backstory has a lot of flexibility.

Ka’el Jundar was born on Dorin, home to the Kel Dor and the ancient Baran Do sages — mystics revered for their insight into the Force. Discovered to be Force-sensitive as a child, Ka’el was brought to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where he began his formal training under the Jedi Order.

As a teenager, Ka’el became the Padawan of Master Veris Ty, a Zabrak Jedi Sentinel who specialized in intelligence gathering, infiltration, and justice missions for the Republic. In the final year of the Clone Wars, the pair were dispatched to Cato Neimoidia, where they investigated Separatist influence and industrial corruption amidst the war-torn planet's towering bridge cities.

It was there — in the fog-shrouded ruins of a shattered skybridge — that Order 66 struck. Clone troopers turned on the Jedi without warning. Master Ty fought fiercely to defend them both, but ultimately sacrificed herself to hold off the betrayal and buy Ka’el time to escape through the city’s crumbling lower levels.

Wounded and grieving, Ka’el fled underground, avoiding patrols and bounty hunters as he slipped aboard a departing freighter bound for the Mid Rim. He disguised his identity as a wandering Kel Dor philosopher, claiming ties to the Baran Do — a useful truth that lent his story credibility and discouraged deeper questions.

Ka’el disassembled his lightsaber on Cato Neimoidia and left its parts scattered in a Neimoidian junk market. All he kept was the yellow kyber crystal, worn in a small pouch on a leather cord around his neck — a quiet memorial to his Master, and a reminder of the path he can no longer safely walk.

Now, he moves from system to system, helping quietly where he can, hiding his powers, and waiting for a time when the light can return.

Thanks, @Balthazar , but Sera (my PC) started on Coruscant and was there went Order 66 went down. She absolutely can be someone who helps maintain Ka'el's cybernetics tho

Sera Javik

Backstory
16 years before Order 66 was executed, Sera Javik was born, with her twin brother Dal holding onto her heel. Their mother, Tana Javik, gace birth to them deep in the Underworld levels of Coruscant, where she worked as a community leader and amateur technician, repairing the scrubbers and filters enough to keep folks alive a little longer. But her work had a cost and she eventually became ill from the toxins she exposed herself to each day. She passed when Sera and Dal were five. As a sign of their gratitude, neighbors took the children in and fed them, but everyone here was barely surviving as it was, so there was little support they could offer, aside from a corner to sleep in and the occasional scrap of spoiled ration.

Being the "older sister," Sera took it upon herself to provide for her and Dal. And for a year, through every kind of difficulty imaginable, she did. Each day, she would sneak up to the higher levels and offer to do odd jobs for folks, fixing things. For Sera had a way with machines, ever since she was a toddler sitting at her mama's side. The machines would "talk" to her; she could feel what they wanted, what bothered them, and how she could help. Finally, she became an apprentice with a tech shop on a middle level and was able to relocate herself and Dal to a shack behind the shop. She worked there for a few months, until HE came in.

Palter Dinn was a young Jedi with an interest in repairing his straighter, which was having a persistent problem. When Sera heard the description of the issue, she came out and diagnosed Palter's Delta-7 aethersprite class interceptor, sight-unseen. He was skeptical, but he tried her suggestion and was amazed. He visited again, many times, mostly to speak with and observe young Sera. And at age seven, he offered her a spot as a Youngling in the Jedi Temple.

This was their big break! Sera would go to the temple and send support back to Dal. Once she graduated, she thought, they could be together and live the life as luxury, as a Jedi Knight and her associate. She soon learned that she was naive. Sure, she was able to send modest sums back to Dal, which were enough to keep him alive and comfortable, but she was never allowed to visit. And her letters became less and less frequent over time.

She immersed herself in her studies and quickly excelled. She showed amazing promise in the technical fields, as Palter expected, though she struggled with others, especially interpersonal subjects.

Machines? Machines were easy. People were hard.

Finally, when she reached aged 13, Palter chose to make her his Padawan. She was so proud! She visited Dal that day, though by then he was going by DJ and running with a rough crowd of splicers and hackers. He was standoffish but ultimately congratulatory. Soon, she promised, soon she'd be a Jedi knight, and then they could live the life they always wanted. DJ seemed less enthusiastic about that, however; he was making a life for himself.

A year and a half later, Order 66 was issued. That morning, Sera was free, so she decided to go to the old garage where she kept her tinkering projects and work. She heard the effects of Order 66 over her coms and was terrified. She hid in the garage for a time, and then fled downward, into the Underworld levels, where she could move like a rat in the walls. When she arrived at DJ and her old shack, however, she was saddened to learn that he had left Coruscant a few months prior, out on some harebrained get rich quick scheme with his shady friends.

Now she hides and keeps her Jedi identity a secret, hoping to see DJ again one day. She doesn't know what happened to her mentor Palter, though she can guess.

I see a lot of people have added in their story what happened when Order 66 was issued.

I think it would be good to establish when it happened compared to the starting of the game, and where we begin.
I am fine with anything, but the appesl of the game would be that it was very shortly ago, and there is still a lot of confusion about what is going on. The question where and we meet or get together is important then for that part of the backstory as well.

@vagueGM What do you want in a character sheet? Any guidelines or should I just wing it?

You became an tech apprentice at age 5? Is that normal? Legal?
Drgwen says:

Was this contentious? Having a Master bring in a youngling and then 'follow' them all the way through and take them as a Padawan? I believe the temple was assigning Padawan to Jedi at that time (war time, and all), so many did not get a choice.

Did the fact that 'you are difficult' factor into this? :)

This can sometimes become a burden in an RPG. We may have to work to make this viable and still fun in scenes where you need to deal with people.

Droids are people too! I don't mind, but bear in mind you are now playing two characters (or nearly two).

'for a time' being 'some hours'? That way you can connect with the others shortly after learning DJ is not there to help you?

Agreed. We do probably need to know this before we can say too much about that part of our backstory. I think we are each still free to say what happened in the hours around the event, but need to work out how quickly we get together before we can say much more.
Owlbeer says:
... the appesl of the game would be that it was very shortly ago, ...
I agree, this does seem like an interesting time to play through.

If we all agree, maybe we say that we get together within a day or so of Order 66, and possibly even less time if we can get together sooner.
Owlbeer says:
... there is still a lot of confusion about what is going on. ...
Struggling through that time of confusion sounds like fun. I don't really want to miss out on it. We can do it in flashbacks if we have to, but playing it out in full is definitely appealing.

It can be useful to have some uniformity to a sheet, just to make it easier to look things up. But we won't know what sorts of things will be useful till we see more about what sorts of things people put on their sheets. So maybe just wing it, and we adjust all the sheets later for ease of use?

runekyndig: You are probably the most affected [ref] by the timeline of events. But I don't want to lose your backstory and we can fit it into a compressed timeline.

Bacta seems to work really fast! But it is also inconsistent. 'Inconsistent' is good, it means we can define it ourselves.

Maybe Brenya got you into a tank for a few hours, during that time she, or others, scavenged some replacement limbs for you, and then they needed to get you out of the tank and limbered up (forgive my 'french') in a hurry because we had been found and needed to run.

In The Book of Boba Fett we see him needing to keep using a bacta tank for a long time after he 'recovered' enough to be functional, so we can lean on that and say you also 'need' more bacta... when you can get it. But tanks may be hard to come by.

What do you think?

While you are in the tank may be when the others join the party? Maybe it is at some 'secret way-station' you all know/learn about and use as a rendezvous? There were mobile Jedi Temples on starships, you may have been recalled to there (maybe bringing your bacta tank with you, or suffering till you find it there?), though all Temples are part of the trap, so the Clones (who used to be your friends): come for you.

If we go that route, I think we could have a 'backstory' thread where people can post what they did to get 'there'? That does not feel right for a character sheet. These could be 'one per player' but that could be overkill, and one shared one often works best. I am easy.

She was boarding a small Jedi frigate when Order 66 was issued. Her master was the first to be gunned down by the auto cannon, and Voss managed to get her lightsaber up as the second barrage started tearing into her. A shot went through her hand holding her lightsaber and the powerpack and Voss was blown apart.

https://i.imgur.com/jGt8U0x.pngThe troopers continued in the space station, looking for more Jedi, as Brenya entered the hangar bay. She scooped up Voss, who was clinging to life, and unseriously plopped her into a Bacta tank, putting the medic droid to work. As Brenya closed, she spotted the remaining part of Voss lightsaber, which she called to her with the force. Half a jedi with half a lightsaber.

The Medical droid, which was tasked to "fix her" did what it could with the materials at hand: Droid parts, no real cybernetics replacements.

Brenya did her best to escape the space station, but didn't get far before the imperial was chasing their ship.
OOC:
What happened next?
Did they pick up a jedi distress call, with another survivor? Starting the group?
Was the ship shot down and they crashlanded on a planet, where they are now hiding in a city, trying to make their way through this chaos?

"We'sa got no time for dis," she muttered to no one, palm pressed to the tank. "Sorry-sorry, sleepy girl, but it’s up-and-go now."

Tyra Voss floated like a ghost, limbs half-metal, half-healed, half-everything. The droid had done its job — crude patchwork of durasteel and synthflesh — but she was still more ruin than Jedi. Her eyes twitched beneath swollen lids.

Brenya didn’t wait. She jabbed the release and bacta sluiced out in a sudden rush, splashing across the floor like a burst dam. Voss dropped hard into Brenya’s arms — heavier than expected. Dead weight. Too much metal.

"Ooof—Yousa heavier than you look," Brenya wheezed, half-dragging, half-cradling the girl to the floor. "C’mon, wake up. Wake up, girl."

Tyra groaned, coughing bacta, eyes slitting open with a dull, glazed confusion.

Brenya tapped her cheek — gently, then less so. "Yousa name Voss, okee-day? Messa Brenya. Big boom coming. No time for pain. Yousa got legs now, see? Not pretty ones. But issa workin’, ja?"

Voss mumbled something — breathy and broken. Her right arm twitched, fingers moving sluggishly. Her mechanical arm clunked against the floor, oversized servos whining as she tried to move.

"Yousa can hate me later. For now, we go."

She slapped a breath mask over Voss’s face, then fumbled for the hover-sled — a half-rusted cargo hauler from the adjacent droid bay. It wasn’t meant for patients, but it would do. She rolled Tyra onto it, fingers flicking the controls until it buzzed to life with a low hum. The hallway outside was glowing with emergency lights. The floor shook again — closer.

Behind her, the medical droid sparked and folded, a smoking hole through its head. The blast had come from the corridor.

Blaster fire.

"F****," Brenya hissed.

Can somebody save us, please? =))

That actually seems like a great place to start our first thread when we are ready.

Maybe everyone else can converge on this location (we can work out what it is as needed). Maybe you arrived a little while ago and already met up with Brenya and sleepy Voss, or maybe you are arriving as we speak, only to find it is a trap and the Clones have followed you here... the same Clones you thought were your friends only hours ago.

No. You will have to save yourselves.

Your characters might not know the term 'Order 66', or they could have overheard it being spoken about —on comms or between those who attacked. It is more realistic to not know, but that makes it hard to talk about in character, so maybe we share at least that title with you quite quickly.

It may take a long time before you have any real understanding of what is going on. You will be relying on the official news, which comes from the empire, so it paints Mace Windu as the aggressor, the one who attacked the chancellor without provocation, and as the bad guy. Feel free to have your own opinions on that topic. You may have never met Windu, up to you.

Owlbeer: Note that the other players can not see your character sheet. You need to Add it to the Library in your character list [link] for others to see it. See the Character Sheet Visibility page in the PbP Help thread [link] for a little more detail.

Also, for the comfort of my brain, could we please have an IC thread for the space station?

Yes, we will do that when we start playing. So far we are just brainstorming, nothing here is official roleplay, so it might not happen like this. If everyone agrees to that start I will make a thread for the actual roleplay to happen in. We will need to repost anything from here if we want it to be canon.
