@Turanel2 I'm sorry, looks like I've done my usual mistake of assuming things the way I think they should be. I will try to keep in mind other PCs may or may not distinguish between moon and wood elves or understand their difference.

@GreyWord no apology needed! Like I said, glad we talked it through.

Added a roll to my post. Thinking of trying the southern door if we've expended information in the current one.

If people still want to do stuff in that room. I'm fine with staying longer. I'm just aware sometimes games can get bogged down in analysis paralysis. So I'm pulling the trigger on moving on to another room. Feel free to stop him, or suggest other routes. Otherwise, we will see what happens next!

In this game the PC I'm playing may sometimes do ( and did already) some weird actions that are adding flavor to the story rather than progress. But I prefer my PCs doing active things (open, push, touch, drag...) rather than passive (look, search, scan...)

My preference: if the active action trigger the consequences ... well DM had put an effort in designing these consequences and I want as a player to see them in the story even if my PC may not be happy about it. I've played with @htech as DM and I am talking from experience here. It is OK to do interesting but risky things in his games.

I mean, consequences happen. That's not always what holds folks back. Sometimes people just don't know when to move to another scene. Momentum slows, and folks start running out of stuff to post about. That's all. Good that you don't take it personally when bad stuff happens. It's all part of the game.

How are people enjoying the game? Do you like dungeon crawl type adventures? Worried for our dwindling health? Just trying to engage in some table talk.

I'm enjoying the game a lot. I really enjoy how four people who would otherwise never meet are now engaged in a social game. It's like the opening to a joke: A Canadian, a Latvian and a Brazilian walk into a D&D game... (Gearspark where are you from?)

As far as the dwindling health, We have the locks figured out, we have the keys for the main shop and the trap door. We are in a major port city. Nothing is forcing us to clear this forge in one run. We can back up rest and have a meal up above in relative safety.

I'm from the U.S.A. Glad you're having fun! Roleplay is a pretty crazy hobby. It can be as casual as a boardgame, or as moving as a really good book. Have you had a game that was extra special to you? My best game ever (so far) actually happened on this site.

Fair point about leaving these issues for later. They aren't as pressing as some games can be. Heck, there's some intel gathering Orryn would do if we weren't in active danger. So if we decide to leave, I'll advocate for it.

I've been playing some form of ttrpg since 1979... There have been many epic moments. Most recently, I was playing an arcane trickster rogue and we were attacked by a Roc on a cliff face, on a very narrow trail. I used misty step to jump onto the back of the Roc and dealt a fatal blow (rolled a crit and dealt over 100HP of damage) and I was able to misty step back onto the ledge. The other players cheered and lobbied the GM that everyone should get an inspiration point because of the epic move.

Glad you're all enjoying the game! I've been playing since the 90s, so Turanel2 probably has a few more epic moments under their belt—but I'm working on catching up. 😄

Like GreyWord mentioned a few days ago, taking risks can really bring the story to life. I’m definitely a forever GM type who roots for the PCs—so unless the dice have other plans, I’m not the one stacking odds against you. I try to make the consequences interesting, not cruel.

As for game types, I enjoy variety. Dungeon crawls, combat-heavy or light, deep roleplay, exploration, intrigue—I'll happily run or play any of them. But for PBP, I lean toward rules-light systems, like we’re using here. They really play to the format’s strengths: richer descriptions, storytelling, and more room for creative roleplaying.

Looking forward to what you all do next!

I am not so sure about that =D

Keeping us on our toes! Love it.

I'm a bit of a discovery player. My characters are vague, but cool concepts that I expand on as things happen. Think like the DM/GM that starts in a tavern with only a barebone amount of things prepared, and just starts winging it during play. I'm the player version of that. Though I've been told I do a decent job.

I had a pretty epic campaign recently. So I have a few moments I enjoyed a lot. I think the highlight I'll always bring up was getting a hug from an archangel. If you know D&D modules, this was Zariel from Descent Into Avernus.

I know my true love of this hobby is getting immersed in the character/setting to the point I get emotionally attached. Though it seems rare in my experience. If it happens, it's magical!

I enjoy this story. I wouldn't hesitate to tell DM I don't and work it out.

I had trouble describing my attitude to a "dungeon crawl". Let me try. I don't think it is type of adventure that you either like or don't. Like juice isn't a type of a drink you either like or don't regardless is it orange, pineapple or tomato.
I can maybe say I prefer story that feels mostly like an adventuring/action book/movie. Drama or criminal - not so much.

P.S. There is a pitfall in a typical dungeon crawl I'd like to point out though. I don't like situations where me as a player need to solve puzzle and then pretend my character is just as smart (if I solved it) or just as dumb (if I didn't) as me - the player.

You just reminded me of a conversation I had with one DM decades ago in AD&D. I was playing a cleric and complaining to him about how I had to figure out something that my character would certainly have, and the barbarian player doesn’t need to know how to punch people.

Don’t worry, I’m not that kind of DM. In my games, the players can solve puzzles if they want, but so can the characters. Just give me a dice roll and the PCs take over.

calcified heatstone going through the walls, over the ceiling and under the floor.
what's a heatstone ? Should I just understand the place used to be under a super high temperature?

Sorry, I forgot to include my notes on this in the RP thread.

It's something I like from Pathfinder, so I brought it here as well. It's a crafting material and a useful product for heating things.

This might be one of those moments there isn't a ton to discover, but I'm gonna make my attempt to gather some information here before I move on. Just seems like a place to maybe create metal alloys, or perhaps distribute molten metal. Unless I'm reading stuff wrong. That was my impression.

While I don't share, I understand mystery reluctance. It is not unusual for very detailed backstory to stay in DM's mind (or in a module book) undiscovered by players. I'm not the player to post "my PC keep looking at the thing" and roll a test, but I am happy to have players at a table who that do.

P.S. I am only uncertain how to interpret your roll as your success only comes from advantage based on feat that says it is only applicable to non magical stuff, while everything DM share is all magical stuff. Did you failed the test and we are going to suffer another damage soon? Did DM ignore the roll? Does it even matter?
