You put two solid blows an the first hollow, though it's still standing. The one you have engaged batters you with his bow, the other keeps firing, An arrow pierces your armour.

Accustomed to getting shot with arrows, Tosti ignores the pain continues attacking the hollow. It'll probably hurt like hell afterwards, but for now his adrenaline is pumping.

The plucky hollow still survives your first strike, only to fall to the second. The other take another shot, piercing your armour again.

Annoyed and the resilience of these hollows, Tosti uses his divine energy when attacking the second archer.
OOC:
It's definitely a better run when I have a strategy, just takes a death or two to learn what works! :P

Edit: So I got a crit on that divine smite. The rules say you roll all damage dice, which should include the 2d8.

Your blows obliterates the hollow. You absorb its soul. One of the hollows bows did not turn to ash.

Rolls

Loot - (1d20)

(18) = 18

Tosit exhales a triumphant "Hmpf" as he watches the hollows ashes scatter in the wind. He picks up the bow, and shows it to Nirmon before he puts it away.

"Never had good eyesight to use these things, I think you'd be better with it, Nirmon. Gahaha!"

Before setting off into the forest, he gets the thought to leave his mark somewhere for another traveler. With his knowledge of the area, he could surely use the light of Tyr to aid them. However, he's not quite sure of a good location. He decides to place it on the gate door, that way anyone pushing open the door will surely see it.

He writes the fey symbols for 'Tyr Light Man', since that was the language he was most comfortable with.

...

Afterwards, he mounts his horse and heads into the woods, hoping to blow past the two hollows he knew were waiting in ambush. Just to ensure he isn't caught off guard he opens his senses to the divine powers of nature, which allows him to sniff out any undead (among other things).

You can sense the hollows before you see them, you could possibly pass them wide enough to avoid conflict with them but it will drive you off the path. Or you can ride right past them, they'll probably get a few shots on you though if they have bows...

OOC:
Are these the sneaky ones, or the group of 3 that killed me last time?
Dec 2, 2016 9:21 am
OOC:
the two sneaky ones are first.

Tosti casts 'shield of faith' on himself and Nirmon, giving them both a semi-golden luster. He attempts to charge past the first two hollows, and tries to keep a low profile while riding. It's hard to ride a large, loud warhorse while keeping a low profile, but he tries it anyway.
OOC:
+2 AC for both us while I am mounted, but if I fall off or dismount Nirmon will lose the buff. Lasts 10 minutes, as long as I can keep my concentration.

You barrel past the two sneaky hollows each manage to get to shots before you manage to break line of sight. Three of the arrows lodge themselves in your flesh, one of them lodging itself painfully in the back of your neck.
OOC:
Give me a Con save to maintain the shield.

Rolls

Attacks - (1d20+4, 1d20+4, 1d20+4, 1d20+4)

1d20+4 : (18) + 4 = 22

1d20+4 : (20) + 4 = 24

1d20+4 : (14) + 4 = 18

1d20+4 : (6) + 4 = 10

Damage - (4d6+6)

(5144) + 6 = 20

OOC:
Sheesh, took a bunch of hits. Gotta do a CON check for each hit. Since the 50% damage check is below 10, the DC for each hit is 10.
Tosti loses his concentration, and his magic disperses. Not that it did much good for him this time. He heals himself with divine power once he's out of the range of the hollows.
OOC:
Using 'lay on hands' to heal up 25.

1d20+2 : (2) + 2 = 4

Tosti dismounts from his horse, and opts to fight the next three hollows the old fashioned way. He has Nirmon stay in the back, so she can charge in after all the attention is on Tosti.

Rolls

Preemtive Initiative for Tosti/Nirmon - (1d20-1, 1d20+1)

1d20-1 : (4) - 1 = 3

1d20+1 : (7) + 1 = 8

Even knowing where to find them, they are still much faster then you, as you draw near they spring out of hinding and fire upon you. They are still scattered, with a solitary hollow closer and two other hollows 30 feet behind it. The fire upon you from range, a single arrow penetrates your defense.
OOC:
By the way I think I forgot to give you loot of the body on the wall, I will rectify this now. You have a feeble estus gem, shatter to restore 2d6 health. flavor text "Small stone made up of crystallized souls. Restores a small amount of hp.
Often found near abandoned corpses, as if it were what remains of the soul."

Rolls

1d20+4 : (10) + 4 = 14

Damage - (1d6+2)

(4) + 2 = 6

Tosti will deal with the nearest hollow first, and doesn't take any chances. He slashes with his longsword, and channels divine energy to make sure the hollow goes down.

His attacks aren't as effective as he'd like, so he spends more time slashing at the first hollow.

He doesn't call Nirmon in yet, since he still hasn't felled the first hollow.
OOC:
Damn, hope these bad rolls go away soon.

The first strike connects but the hollow dodges the second. The hollow you have engaged draws a short sword and starts stabbing at you, while the hollows in the back continue to shoot at you. Another arrow catches your side.

Tosti welcoms a sword fight, as he's been stuck with more arrows than blades. He makes two more attacks on the wounded hollow.
