From the cursed soil you arise, mist is strewn about you. You cannot remember; who you are, how did you fall, all this is lost to you. But in the distance there is a soft orange glow. Hope?

You approach the light, almost mindlessly driven to hold your hand over the coiled blade. The bonfire lights, for a fleeting moment warmth fills your cold heart, restoring your vigour and your strength. You feel rested, as though you had stayed for ten or so minuets in this moment, though it lasted only a moment. Filled with determination you look once more around you. You stand in a deep vale; filled with mist and graves. Across the clearing from you is a corpse its decayed hands clasp a dull great flask a bright white stone untouched by age. You recognise these items, powerful items indeed...

The sides of the cake are steep but there is an old path winding through the mist..
Nov 6, 2016 1:19 am
Tosti grabs the flask and white stone, and places them in a pouch on his side. He doesn't remember anything, but he knows he has to keep moving forward. After checking his equipment, he heads down the winding pathway.
Nov 6, 2016 1:34 am
As you start along the path you realise that you aren't alone. Around you in the mists several hollowed undead lurk. They seem to pay you no heed at first, but as you continue its clear that they are following behind you. Soon you will be completely surrounded.

The first hollow just barely survives theblow, while the second succumbs to the wound. A whisky white fragment rises from the corpse as it crumbles to ash.

The path becomes stairs as you leave the valley. Clouds part and for a brief moment the sun shines upon you. At the in trance to the valley is a stone circle. Some of the stones still stand but most have been slowed to fall. There is a knight sitting on one of these toppled stones he notices your arrival but quickly returns his attention to a small black object in his hands.

From here you can see much of the surrounding country side. a huge stone fortress dominates the otherwise barren landscape.
Nov 9, 2016 12:20 am
Tosti looks around the stone circle for anything that sticks out, and then greets the knight.

"Greetings, I am Tosti of Hvall. What brings you to this mysterious land?"
Nov 9, 2016 12:50 am
Hmm seems your not a hollow after all, shame really I was kind of hoping you were... I am Gallek of Thander, and it might seem strange but I don't remember why I'm in these lands. I'm here waiting for some hollow to come up from the grave yard though. Hehe.
Nov 9, 2016 1:19 am
"It's not strange, as I'm in a similar predicament. The hollows have no end here, so I'm sure you'll get your wish eventually."

Tosti eyes the large stone structure in the distance.

"What do you know of these lands? I've only just arrived and I'm not sure which roads to take."
Nov 9, 2016 7:20 am
He indicated to a path that heads down a slop, hooking around and out of sight. That path leads to the coast, there's a small village there, we there was one. he indicates to a steep path that heads up the mound. Theres a burial mound up there somewhere, though I've never seen it. he indicates to a fourth path And that path leads to the firekeep.
Nov 9, 2016 11:19 am
"Ooh, you are well informed! I'll be on my way then, I'm sure we'll meet again. Before I go, is there anything i can do for you? I'm gifted in the art of healing, though I can't remember who taught me."
Nov 9, 2016 9:25 pm
Me? Hehe, I don't really need anything. But you seem nice so take this. he offers you the black sprite I certainly don't need it any more. Hehe.
Nov 9, 2016 9:59 pm
Tosti takes the black sprite, and makes a mental note to inspect closely when he gets a chance.

"Gallek and Thander, I'll pray for you. Thank you for the gift, I'll repay you the next time we meet!"

Something in Tosti's muddled mind urges him to head for the burial mound, so that's the direction he heads.

It really depends on how human you are. If you've got full humanity you look entirely human, except you cannot die and have the darksign on you. If your fully hollow you look like a desiccated corpse.

Your smiting blow destroys the hollow in one powerful hit. You absorb it's soul (as well as the soul of the previous, as I think I forgot to give you one for the first one: Gain +2 fading souls). A bundle of 10 arrows remains among the ash of the destroyed hollows.

From your vantage point on the wall, you can see some of the features within the forest, there appears to be a toppled stone tower quite close to the entrance, deeper in there is a squat stone building, and in a clearing at the top of the mound is a cave entrance.

Tosti checks out the body to see if it can tell him anything more. He clutches his holy symbol and recites a short prayer for the dead, and then moves on.

Hopefully these souls will find their way back to Tyr, so that they may rest.

Afterwards he'll head for the nearest landmark, the collapsed tower.

The satisfying sensation of absorbing a soul from behind you tells you the success of the first strike. Your sword bears down on the second hollow but it survives the blow. It drops its bow and pulls out a short blade attempting to place it within you. The hollow you had left behind also charges into the fray.

Ooo, yeah that will do it. Only had 3HP left, and could only heal up to 8. So just about any hit would kill, was just hoping they'd miss!

You awaken at the bonfire in the graveyard, it's going to be a long trek back.
Nov 25, 2016 5:24 am
Tosti is surprised in his sudden revival, and views it as nothing short of a miracle. He laughs and makes sure all his gear traveled with him.

"By Tyr! The gods and goddesses weren't done with me yet, or so it would seem!"

He takes the down time to inspect his new items (Chalk, Estus, Souls), and prepares his spells.

White Soapstone: In Legrion, the flow of time is distorted, and the White Sign Soapstone allows Undead to assist one another. Leave a summoning sign through which other undead can summon you into their world.

Estus Flask: The undead treasure these dull green flasks, which promise survival in a land dominated by death. Estus flasks provide swift healing, and are replenished at bonfires. You have a number of estus flasks equal to half your level, rounded up. You can drink an estus flask as a bonus action, which restores hit points equal to 1d6 + your Constitution modifier. All empty estus flasks restore when you rest at a bonfire.

Fading Soul: The fading soul of a lost Undead who has gone Hollow and still. Use to 100xp or for trading. The soul is the source of all life, and even in undeath, or hollowing, the mind seeks souls.
Nov 27, 2016 8:22 am
With renewed vigor, Tosti sets off towards the burial mound. He sets up an simple ritual meant to draw out a spiritual mount, a gift from Tyr to those that carry out his will. It takes about ten minutes, but eventually Tosti builds up enough energy to summon the an ethereal warhorse.

Quite proud of his accomplishment, Tosti happily pats the horse.

"Hehe, you'll speed my trip up for sure!"

Before hopping on his horse and riding away, he peeks down the valley pathway to see if the hollows that jumped him before were still skulking around.
Nov 27, 2016 8:37 am
With the speed that you rode away from the bonfire you did not attract the attention of the hollows who attacked you before, but they are certainly prowling near the path (or some others from deeper in the fog have taken their place).

OOC:
Woohoo, go horse! It's actually got stats that are about as good as mine...
Tosti makes sure to stop in the area where he last talked to Gallek of Thander, since he wants to show off his horse.

"Gallek of Thander! I have willed myself back to life just so that you may gaze upon my horse!"
Nov 27, 2016 10:25 am
Willed yourself back to life? More like have been slain and reborn at the bonfire in the endless grind of the curse. Though your mount is magnificent.
Nov 27, 2016 10:34 am
OOC:
Oh I forgot to mention, when you examined the souls you had, 4 of them was missing, and I missed a definition for you....
Humanity: This black sprite is called humanity, but little is known about its true nature. If the soul is the source of all life, then what distinguishes the humanity we hold within ourselves? Offer to a bonfire to restore humanity.
Nov 27, 2016 10:46 am
Tosti laughs and dismounts.

"Well, as someone once told me 'We can't make a brand new start, but we can make a new ending'. This curse lets us redo our endings, if we please."

He digs though his pack and pulls out the bundle of arrows he looted off the dead hollow.

"Do you use a bow? I can give you these arrows, to repay for the sprite you gave me."

I have no need for the arrows just as I had no need for the humanity. Keep them, you may find a use.

Tosti rubs his chin thoughtfully.

"Hmm, I suppose most knights like you and I don't have use for a bow."

He hops back on his horse and gets ready to head off again.

"Oh! Do can you think of any names for this horse?"
Nov 29, 2016 11:11 am
How about Nirmon, the name of the east wind where I'm from.
Nov 29, 2016 11:37 am
"Nirmon? Hmm... It's sounds rather regal, hopefully this horse doesn't start getting to full of itself."

Before setting off for the garrison near the forest, Tosti waves to Gallek.

"We'll meet again, hopefully at a different bonfire!"
Nov 30, 2016 11:06 am

Tosit exhales a triumphant "Hmpf" as he watches the hollows ashes scatter in the wind. He picks up the bow, and shows it to Nirmon before he puts it away.

"Never had good eyesight to use these things, I think you'd be better with it, Nirmon. Gahaha!"

Before setting off into the forest, he gets the thought to leave his mark somewhere for another traveler. With his knowledge of the area, he could surely use the light of Tyr to aid them. However, he's not quite sure of a good location. He decides to place it on the gate door, that way anyone pushing open the door will surely see it.

https://s12.postimg.org/e2gwzz2bx/Siggy.png

He writes the fey symbols for 'Tyr Light Man', since that was the language he was most comfortable with.

...

Afterwards, he mounts his horse and heads into the woods, hoping to blow past the two hollows he knew were waiting in ambush. Just to ensure he isn't caught off guard he opens his senses to the divine powers of nature, which allows him to sniff out any undead (among other things).

You can sense the hollows before you see them, you could possibly pass them wide enough to avoid conflict with them but it will drive you off the path. Or you can ride right past them, they'll probably get a few shots on you though if they have bows...

Tosti drops to a knee after being attacked, and decides that there's no way he could take this monster without help. He'll disengage from the monster, and then drop a few lit torches (hoping to dissuade the plant from chasing him) onto the ground while he backs away.
Dec 11, 2016 11:14 am
As you pull back, it's clear that the creature doesn't want to give chase, it simply returns to it's point of origin and resumes looking like a bush. You could give the creature a wide birth, but you sense that either way you go there are hollows prowling.
Dec 11, 2016 11:21 am

Tosti gives a deep sigh before plopping down on a stump near the fire. He inspects the bandit souls he's collected, and he prepares his spells.

Dec 15, 2016 2:48 am
Bandit Soul: the soul of a bandit of the Ashen Forrest. The desperate settled in these woods to steal from those whose pilgrimage lead the to me the Ashen Tomb. Offer at a bonfire for 150xp or use for trading.

This tower bears the Brocken remains of religious iconography. It seems that the tower was once a temple for pilgrims. It is unclear why the tower has fallen, or what the pilgrims worshipped. From where you stand you cannot see what has become of the room that once stood above you.
Dec 15, 2016 8:10 am
Tosti will absorb all the souls he has collected, and reflects on the surrounding area. The Ashen Tomb sounds very interesting, and worthy of Tyr's protection. He carefully examines the religious markings on the tower walls, hoping to learn some more info.

The top most rooms are completely trashed, but from what you saw from the outside there should be atleast another floor above you. The toppled segments still have some of their structure so you'll need to pick through wall fragments to explore the remnants of those floors. You can't identify anything from the iconography, but you can discern that the tower is newer then the large square building you saw earlier. It also has a different style of construction to that of the Firekeep. From here the square building and the mound entrance are about equidistant but are in different directions.
Dec 16, 2016 6:00 am

Good thing that's over, those fangs were sharp!

Tosti picks up the new weapon, eager to inspect it closer at a bonfire. Afterwards, he'll lay his hands on any wounds to heal them with Tyr's energy.

The waypoint is a resting place on the pilgrims journey. This particular shrine is important as it here the pilgrims pay their respects to the ashen tomb; After all not any old pilgrim can enter the tomb. The next and final stop on the pilgrims way is the Firekeep. But the pilgrims have stopped coming, we haven't seen any for centuries.
Jan 1, 2017 10:36 am
"Ooh, so it's like a journey. In the Order of the Ancients we only ever stayed in one place! Which god is worshiped at the ashen tomb?"

The Ashen tomb is not in worship of a god, though some say he is. deep below the tomb is the location where a saint died. Well went hollow is probably more appropriate. He was a great warrior, even mundane arms became empowered in his hand.

When you ask your question the priest shakes his head I said we haven't seen any pilgrims. There were some others, a band of knights from a far off land, who searched for a different shrine deep in the woods. They said something about taking the soul of the forest to it's heart, but I'm not sure what that meant. That too was some time ago, though it's hard to tell, time after all is complicated in these lands. But tell me, are you a pilgrim of the sun, do you wish to receive the blessing of ash?
Jan 1, 2017 11:58 am
"Hmm, a blessing? I follow the gods Tyr and Zisa, though you might know them by their older names: 'Forest Light' and 'Forest Moon'. I can accept the blessing of ash, but only if it helps kindle the light of the world. If so, then I would be honored!"

Tosti strokes his beard in anticipation.

"I might very well be the Order's first pilgrim! Hopefully Tyr and Zisa don't start bickering over it, Gahaha!"
Jan 1, 2017 12:13 pm
I assure sir knight, we are worshipped of the very light itself, the Lord of light and his saints. But alas you are not a pilgrim. the priest looks down trodden. I will not be able to share a blessing then as you would need to bring with you talisman of the dragon slayer from earlier in the pilgrimage.
Jan 1, 2017 12:36 pm
"Ah, so we are both worshipers of the light. I'm on a mission from the Order, but I can complete this pilgrimage at the same time! Where do I start?
Jan 2, 2017 4:48 am
Well the shrine of the dragonslayer is some way away in another land and the pilgrimage itself starts even further off, but if you find such a medallion in your travels I can grant you the blessing.
Jan 2, 2017 7:59 am
"I'll keep an eye out for it. I guess I will start by searching this forest, then I can make my way to the Ashen Tomb. Do you know what lies at the top of the mound in the distance?"
Jan 2, 2017 10:44 am
Well that's the Shrine of Ash and Soot. It's a place where we remember those who are now ash, and those who are now sooted. Below the mound is the is the ruins of an old city, and below that still... Well don't go that far down.
Jan 2, 2017 11:36 am
"So there's a Shrine of Ash and Shoot, and the Ashen Tomb is a different place entirely. I'm beginning to understand, but I think I see less than you do!"

Tosti stretches his arms, and prepares to venture out again.

"I'll return if I find the medallion, or maybe just to discuss our faith. Before I go, I found a javelin downstairs. Does it belong to you?"
Jan 3, 2017 4:05 am
Definitely not, I haven't used a Javelin at all.
Jan 3, 2017 4:22 am
"Well then, I'll be off. Nice meeting you, what's your name?"

"Be well, Zellier!"

After saying his goodbye, Tosti rests at the bonfire downstairs and inspects the javelin he found inside the chest.
Jan 5, 2017 4:27 am
Javelin of Solar Knight: When you utter a prayer to the sun this Javelin becomes a bolt of lightning, forming a line 5 feet wide that extends out from you to a target within 120 feet. Each creature in the line excluding you and the target must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d6 lightning damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The lightning bolt turns back into a javelin when it reaches the target. Make a ranged weapon attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes damage from the javelin plus 4d6 lightning damage. The javelin’s property can’t be used again until the next dawn. In the meantime, the javelin can still be used as a magic weapon.

In the days long gone knights served the lord of light himself, and with these sacred bolts vanquished those who came before and secured for us the lands to live in.
Jan 5, 2017 9:11 am
Tosti's first order of business is to look for the knights that Zellier mentioned. They seemed to want to return the forest to it's original state, which resonated with him. It was still daylight out, so there was still much that could be done.

Deciding to head for the center of the forest, he opens his divine senses to catch any good or evil auras in the area as he travels.
Jan 5, 2017 9:44 am
Now that your not explicitly looking for undead you can in fact detect the essence of the vine monster that attacked you last time, it seems to have some divinity about it...

You can sense something else in that direction; it feels vaguely familiar, but it feels more distant then the distance would suggest, you get some other hollows bleeping on the radar, but strangely enough the direction of the heart of the forest seem devoid of the undead.

Your divine strike incinerates the plants you absorb 10 shrubling souls. Your path to the corpse is clear.
Jan 8, 2017 6:42 am
As the moonlight dissipates, Tosti walks towards to body in order to inspect it.
Jan 10, 2017 3:05 am
The corpse is that of a knight, you find on the corpse an iron wooden lump with a tree-light insignia.
Jan 10, 2017 7:54 am
A member of the Order?!

Tosti rolls the body face-up to get a better look, and inspects the wooden lump.

Tosti will grab the berries, and say a quick prayer for the dead before moving on. The fog is a strange sight in the midday sun, so Tosti immediately heads over to investigate. He places his hand on the fog, testing to see what kind of phenomena it is.
Jan 28, 2017 12:31 am
The fog is clearly not 'natural' but the effect seems to be coming from the forest itself. It doesn't seem to resist your entry.
Jan 29, 2017 6:02 pm
Tosti pushes his hand further into the fog and starts to step though, unsure of what could be beyond.
Feb 1, 2017 11:52 pm
You enter into the glen through the wall of fog, and you see before you a large tree in the center which bends and conforms to a form similar to a great scorpion. It senses your presence in the glen, and it produces a sound from creaking and rubbing parts together similar to a cry of agony.

The glade is approximately spherical and 30 feet in diameter. The woods press close at the clearings edge but are mostly obscured by fog. The ground is relatively flat with tall grass that rises almost to your knee.

Your second blow once again peirces the beasts tough armour, and you allow your holy energy to flow into it. As you inflict your second blow the armour bark cracks around it's body and a soft green light flows from within it. The beast swings in again, this time attempting to grab and crush you. The monster bellows in a combination of pain and anger as you drive yet again your sword into the cracks of it's armour. It collapses under it's own weight as the light fades away. Much of the dead wood splinters and cracks away forcing you to cover your face from the shards of bark. All that remains in the center of the beast is a large gnarled old stump. Instead of absorbing a soul as you expected you almost feel as if the corpse tries to pull something from you. The forest around you goes quiet, as you have subdued it's heart...
Feb 14, 2017 12:06 pm

You meet no confrontation as you head back to the bonfire. Assuming you do nothing there and head back towards the plant you will find a strange glowing rune on the ground as you approach the plant monsters hiding place.

OOC:
Ah, gotta look at some inventory first before I fight the thing.
At the bonfire, Tosti inspects the 'Lumpy Holy Symbol' and the berries he found on Order knights.
Feb 15, 2017 12:01 pm
Tyr's light. The priesthood of the Forrest Light bring the light come from a far of land, but bring their light proudly into the land of Legrion. This amulet is more then just a simple lump of wood, it can be used as a divine focus. When a prayer to Tyr is offered to the amulet, it sheds a soft green light as if it were a hooded lantern, shedding bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet. Invisible creatures and objects are visible as long as they are in the lantern's bright light. You can use an action to lower to reduce the light to dim light in a 5-foot radius.

Bright Moonberries. Far from an ordinary fruit, these berries contain the very essence of moon light. When the berries are crushed and their juice applied to a weapon it infuses it with the divine power of the moon. For 5 minutes a the weapon is treated as a +1 magic weapon (if the weapon has a higher enchantment bonus use that instead), all damage dealt by the weapon is radiant damage and the weapon counts as being silvered for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction. Crushing the berries is a free action and destroys this item.
OOC:
You have some soul items if you want to examine those too, also though I don't see it on your character sheet I believe you found a pendant back on page 7 that you haven't looked at yet...
Feb 15, 2017 12:06 pm
OOC:
Reread the posts, yep I forgot about it. Poor pendant! Tosti has a one track mind.
Seeing a strange strap sticking out of his gear, Tosti yanks on it. The pendant he found earlier slips out. After a brief moment of confusion, he remembers that he picked it up earlier and starts to inspect it.
Feb 15, 2017 12:11 pm
Dragonslayer Amulet. In times of old the knights of the lord of light fought the dragons. One saint served the lord of light with loyalty and skill and rose to great power. This amulet belongs to a worshiper of that knight. Confers no benefit.
Feb 15, 2017 12:22 pm
OOC:
Sweet, that's the amulet that guy wanted.
Content with the item he found, Tosti resumes his trek to the murder-pant. After spotting the glowing rune, he kneels down and gives it a good rub.

"Ooh, who could this be?"
Feb 15, 2017 12:29 pm
As you rub the image the familiar figure of Harmia appears, though she seems translucent and made of golden light. The image flickers for a moment, as if it is unsure if it exists. You are certain you had fought with her before, by it's unclear when... Surely you have not had the time to do so since you awoke in that graveyard.
Feb 15, 2017 1:01 pm
Harmia raises a clenched fist, body going tight as she startles somewhat. She looks confused for a moment, looking around the area as though she just noticed it.

"What was-... I was doing something, just now." She looks about with a confused expression, but seems to drop the thought as her eyes settle upon Tosti, "Oh, hello. Um.. We've met. Sir Tosti, was it?" She holds out a hand to clasp his forearm.

Tosti leisurely heads for the large bush in the middle of the pathway while talking to Harmia.

"Remember that training I told you about before? I can detect divine energy, and this murderous plant actually has an air of divinity to it. I might be able to use it to salvage this forest, now that I've cut away the corrupted heart."

After thinking for bit, Tosti continues.

"I'll carve my sign in the forest, if you would like me to show you the way. Some things are easier to see with your own eyes."

Harmia gives Tosti a firm nod and says, "Sounds like a valid reason. I'm ready when you are."
Feb 16, 2017 8:03 am
"If it grabs me, I want you to know that any shrieks are simply manly battle cries. My brother's wouldn't let me live that down! Gahah!

Tosti gets a strange, nostalgic look in his eyes after saying that, but quickly regains composure and starts battle by charging the plant.

He brings his sword down onto the monster, already charging his lognsword with divine power. His magic ability runs on full blast as he follows up with an upward slash. However, he lets out a ragged breath after those two attacks. Looks like spending that much evergy all at once takes a toll on the body.

With her final strikes the writhing mass of vines dissolves into gold an silver mist and Tosti absorbs the Soul of the Ashen Forrest. As the beast disappears Harmia feels her grasp on the world start to fade, she will vanish soon.
Feb 18, 2017 4:08 am
Harmia, panting, just gives Tosti a smile and a wave.
Feb 18, 2017 4:28 am
Tosti gives a wave.

"We'll meet again!"

He then returns to the bonfire to inspect the souls he has collected (the Ashen Forest, shrubling, and forest druid souls).

Soul of the Ashen Forest. The Ashen Forest had once rested in peaceful recline, but it has since been stirred to anguish by it's mistreatment. Offer at a bonfire for 4000xp, use for trading or use to create a powerful item.

Soul of a Forrest Druid. Those that are one with nature are prone to be overwhelmed with it. This once proud servants of Tyr and Zisa have been hollowed by the same force that drove this forest to corruption. Offer at a bonfire for 450xp or use for trading.

Soul of a Twisted Shrub. In the dark heart of the forest of ash, the anger in the woods have been made manifest by the animation of small plants. Offer at a bonfire for 10xp or use for trading.
Feb 18, 2017 10:30 am
Tosti absorbs the druid and shrub souls, and then leaves the bonfire to head back into the heart of the forest. He'll stroll casually until he reaches the area where he last encountered the smaller shrub monsters.
OOC:
I'll pay Zellier a visit on the way back. We're gonna have a pendant party.

OOC:
Sorry is that you'll visit Zellier later, or first?
Feb 20, 2017 5:27 am
OOC:
Ah ok.
Just as it was last time, there are 10 of those angry bushes loitering around.
Feb 20, 2017 5:37 am
Replicating his previous encounter, Tosti channels the power of Zisa down onto the shrublings. The beam is centered on their group, in order to maximize the number of targets hit.
OOC:
Casting moonbeam, it has a DC 12 constitution save. If anything enters the beam or starts their turn inside of it, they take 2d10 damage. They take half damage if they pass the save.

You strike the remaining knight down, and absorb it's soul as it turns to ash. The way to the forests heart is clear.
Feb 22, 2017 11:51 am
After the short fight, Tosti catches his breath and props his sword on his shoulder. Before entering the glade where he fought the scorpion, he takes a knee and carves his sign onto the ground.

I'll help anyone who makes it this far into the forest!

Afterwards, he eagerly heads for the heart of the forest. For him, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity, even though his 'lifetime' is a bit extended now.
Feb 26, 2017 4:28 am
You enter the glen, the stumps till sits there lidless but as you approach it the world around you becomes darker with a bright ray of sunshine highlighting the stump. When you arrive to the stump you act on instinct laying your hands upon the dead wood and relinquishing the soul into the tree in a sensation that feels similar to your healing power. The stump reacts immediately, life returns to the wood which springs skyward growing branches, until the hollow is covered by its impressive canopy. The grove is not dark, but everywhere filled with soft green light, making the forrest seem dark by comparison. Here you can feel the entire forest including a sense of darkness to the north, a feeling of loss akin to the sense you feeling of hollowing.

The tree speaks to you, in a sense, projecting images into you mind. First a sense if thankfulness and a promise of reward showing you the image of a great bow or a great sheiks. Both seem to be grown from the very tree itself.
Feb 26, 2017 4:39 am
OOC:
"Great shield?
"Oho, no need to thank me, you'll make me blush! The shield will be more useful for my travels though, I've never been good with a bow."
Feb 26, 2017 5:09 am
You hear a creaking and the creaking of warping wood as a heavy shield made from hard wood is jettisoned from the trunk of the great tree before you. You get the sense of a panther leaping towards its prey, with a hawk flying about it, you have the sense that the panther is you and the hawk this shield. You then receive a new thought, images of prey pleading with its hunter, your attention is then drawn towards that sense of darkness, you then see a scene from the trees past, the sundering of soul from heart. It shows you the scene again but in reverse as it shows you consuming a humanity sprite, but here you get the sense that you represent the tree.
Feb 26, 2017 5:30 am
OOC:
Damn, I need a translator for these visions. Is the Ashen Tomb or the Shrine of Soot north of the forest?
Tosti picks up the shield and figures out out to fit it to his arm.

"Hmrm... You want me to hunt down the dark forces in this area? Should give you these sprites of humanity that I recovered?

He holds out one of his pieces of humanity, and attempts to give it to the tree to consume.
Feb 26, 2017 8:48 am
OOC:
So the Ashen Tomb and the Shrine of Soot are essentially the same place (one is on top of the other). That squat square buildings you saw in the depths of the forest does match the general locations to the sensed disturbance.
The sprite dissolves in your hand and is absorbed by the tree. You sense some essence flow back into you, as you receive a blessing from the tree.
OOC:
Once per long rest, you can roll with advantage. You have also gained 1000xp.
Feb 26, 2017 9:17 am
"Well then, I'll be back once I've cleared out the darkness to the North. Be well... Forest!"

Tosti gives a respectful nod of his head and heads out of the glade. He follows the path back to the bonfire to rest and prepare for his next trip.
OOC:
Gonna inspect the fancy new shield I got at the bonfire.
Feb 26, 2017 10:02 am
Sheild of the Ashen Wood. The spirit of the ashen wood has long been tormented by some dark presence to the north, and this shield made of one piece of wood represents it's desire to be safe from this corruption. It is harder then metal and will not break under any assault. While holding the shield, you can caw like a hawk as a bonus action to cause it to animate. The shield leaps into the air and hovers in your space to protect you as if you were wielding it, leaving your hands free. The shield remains animated for 1 minute, until you use a bonus action to end this effect, or until you are incapacitated or die, at which point the shield falls to the ground or into your hand if you have one free. This shield offers superior defense to a normal shield, granting an additional +1 bonus to AC.
Feb 26, 2017 11:25 am
After taking a short rest and absorbing some souls, Tosti whips out his pendant and heads up the tower to meet Zellier.

"Greetings, I'm back! I've uncovered the pendant you asked me about before. Take a look."
Feb 27, 2017 12:19 pm
Ah Sir Tosti you have returned, ready to receive the blessing of Ash. Hand the dragonslayer amulet to me... The priest offers some incatations and as he does so some ash coalesces out of the air and falls upon the amulet. As he completes the prayer the amulet shudders and glows, knocking the ash from it. It is finished.
Feb 28, 2017 7:59 am
"Thank you. The next stop in the pilgrimage is the Ashen Tomb, correct? What am I supposed to do when I get there?"
Mar 1, 2017 3:50 am
Sir Tosti I believe you miss remember, from here pilgrims head to the Firekeep itself. Once there they find the Temple of Light and pay their respects. The Ashen Tomb is no place for a pilgrim, it is a dangerous place. This tower served the purpose of representing the tomb for the pilgrims. For the particularly dedicated or for those who wish to honour not just the Saint who lies in the tomb but also those who have been sooted, travel to the top of the mound where the Shrine of Ash and Soot can be found. It i unattended as far as I am aware, but there is a place where you can give offerings in exchange for blessings. Though, He glances through you for a moment, I believe you already have a blessing of sorts, I don't think you could keep both...
Mar 1, 2017 11:09 am
"You can tell? I revived an old tree in the forest. It doesn't seem like I need to visit the Shrine of Ash and Soot just yet, perhaps I will find this Firekeep first."

Tosti strokes his beard for a moment and enjoys the company before standing up to leave.

"I must depart now, I've got to head to the north to cleanse more darkness from the land. Be well, Zellier!"
Mar 3, 2017 9:17 am
Be well indeed Tosti. May the lord of light smile favorably on you and you fight with the saints by your side.
OOC:
I'm going to run this section of your travels a little bit differently then the combat slog you've been facing so far...

So I would like you to describe how you are traveling the forest, and from your description make me some kind of skill check. Some details that you might find useful; the forest is dense and there are no paths, the forest at first seemed fine, but as you got further north the trees became corrupted and twisted, these plants may attack you as you move. This is only the first part of your journey, so only describe how you set off.
Mar 4, 2017 5:34 am
Traveling though the corrupted forest is like traversing a maze, and it's easy to get lost. The forest itself seems to try to confuse travelers. Thanks to his keen mind Tosti is able to keep his bearings, but he comes to the realization that direct towards his destination is continually blocked by a thick bramble of vines. Choping through the vines might set of a chain reaction in the forest, but Tosti has little choice if he wants to make it though. He hefts his longsword with both hands and starts to hack away, hoping to quickly cut enough for him to squeeze past.

OOC:
Describe how you push through the tight gape and the despair that over hangs you. The lethargy induced by your mental state prevents you from doing so in an athlete fashion.
Mar 6, 2017 8:08 am
Tosti fights back at the crawling despair by relying on his own beliefs and strong personality.

What am I thinking? No member of the Order is going to be done in by tree sap!

To help squeeze past the vines, Tosti channels divine energy summon spectral vines on opposite side of the sappy vines. Usually the spectral vines are meant to ensnare a creature, but he directs them to grapple his own arm to help pull himself through the brush.

You allow the divine strength within you to surge, pushing back the darkness that threatened to consume you. Forcing your way through the tree wall the scene beyond is a depressing landscape of corruption. Pools of the dark blue taint have coalesced in the open and the trees visibly show sign of sickness. You are certain the evil you seek to destroy lies this way.
OOC:
Give a description of you pushing forward or taking in the scene, include a roll.
Mar 13, 2017 11:29 am
Tosti attempts to comprehend what could have causes such wide spread corruption and sickness.

What is all this? It's like a fire burnt everything down and turned the trees into tar...

Traveling further to the north, he eventually arrives at a crevasse. Though it's more like the ground itself has been eaten away, and the interior is riddled with a mesh of corrupted vines and branches. Driven by both Tyr and Zisa, Tosti presses onward into the chaotic jumble.

Some branches are wide enough to walk normally on, while others require a good deal of balance. Certain areas require a short jump or fall to continue moving forward.

OOC:
Normally I would say that only one roll was required, but sequentially this actually tells the perfect story...
Trying to comprehend the corruption, you fail to find meaning for it as it is utterly unnatural. The same despair tries to sieze at you again, but this time it inspires you. The despair is similar to hollowing. This taint is the influence of the dark, source of hollowing, and spawn of the abyss. It must touch this place.

You deftly cross the chasm, but when comes to ascending the other side you slip down the chasms side, hurting yourself somewhat and producing a roucus. By the time you come over the lip you are confronted by two sights. In the distance the square rectangular building you saw some time ago is revealed in detail for the first time. A low castle, surrounded by a decaying village. The second are horrid monstrosities drawn near by the sound of your struggle. Grotesque humanoids with large toloned feet, extended and clawed fingers and where their heads should be a hard leathery carapace covered with numerous glowing red eyes

You blade smites the one that escaped your beam, and the remaining monstrosities are disintegrated by your moon beam, you have absorbed 7 Abyss-touched Souls. The path to the small ruined city now lies before you.
Apr 25, 2017 7:43 am
As the moonbeam fades away, Tosti raggedly catches his breath and looks up to the sky. He stumbles towards the town, hoping for respite. He uses his divine sense to look for any celestials, fiends, or undead lurking in his path. He also aches to see the familiar sight of a bonfire.
Apr 25, 2017 9:46 am
The very lands around you reek of the Abyss, but you sense no further enemies near by until you start to draw near to the city. Before you arrive there, you see a small path heading back into the woods, the trees grow thicker in that direction, but the ones in the distance seem less tainted, and are illuminated by a luminescent moss.
Apr 25, 2017 10:12 am
Not wishing to get jumped by more twisted creatures, Tosti heads for the luminescent moss. If he gets killed, at least it'll be in a forest instead of some ruined city.
Apr 25, 2017 10:25 am
As you pass through the moss covered trees the way becomes less and less tainted by the Abyss. You get a feeling of elsewhereness, as if your steps do not simply mean more then just proceeding forward. Countless mushrooms populate the sides of the path and the forest grows thick with trees obscuring everything. You arrive in a grove with a number of decayed statues covered in luminous moss, in the groves centre is a bonfire, near by a large mushroom with a pair of eyes seems to take notice of your arrival.
Apr 25, 2017 12:34 pm
Tosti drops his sword near the bonfire and slumps unceremoniously to the ground.

"Haah..."

He lets the fire warm his bones up before finally noticing the mushroom.

"Mushrooms use these bonfires as well?"

Going to examine the souls I got, and also those statues.

Abyss-touched Soul. What was once the soul of a common person, it had become engorged with Dark. Not the pure white of a soul but the twisted purple of the Abyss. Use to gain 100xp, for trading or for Dark rituals.

The statues are old, from a time which you would consider to be a time of myths. They poses strong themes of nature but beyond that their age and obscured nature makes it imposible to determine more.

Though the mushroom has no mouth it speaks to you in the voice of an elderly woman. Mushrooms do not need the bonfire like you do undead, but it's power was a great boon. Especially in this dark times. What brings you to the ruins of Oolacile?
Apr 26, 2017 9:32 am
"Oolacile?! I was always told this place was a myth... My name is Tosti, I'm a knight of the Order of the Ancients. I came here seeking refuge from a ruined city that was choked with darkness."

As he talks, Tosti begins cleaning his sword and wooden shield.

"A spirit in the forest asked me to cleanse the whole area, how is it that you are unaffected by the abyss?"
Apr 26, 2017 11:04 am
I am Elizabeth, and I suppose Oolacile could be a myth. You see it is not always real... Have you ever remembered not being real Tosti? Walked in a world where either you did not exist or the world itself was not real? So too does Oolacile wander through the world. A foul blot on reality, bound to the cycle of Light and Dark. The manifestation of Oolacile in your world marks a juncture, where Light may be preserved or an age of Dark ushered in. I have always wondered if Oolacile serves a purpose in that, a warning to what an age of Dark might be like. If your task is to clear this blot I am afraid you are outmatched, Oolacile will pass in time but so long as it is here the dark will remain. This glen I keep clean by the powers of this bonfire, and my knowledge of healing nature, but you will not find great enough a source of strength for a all of Oolacile. I suggest you aid your spirit in surging this storm, as Oolacile will pass in time. the shroom considers for a time, the adds though perhaps if you slay the twice killed knight it may ease the burden on this world. You may know him as a legend too, the Knight Artorias who was slain by Manus father of the Abyss, then slain again by the Wanderer who finished his task. But I warn you, Artorias is a powerful foe.
May 1, 2017 11:40 am
"...I feel like I have stumbled upon something much greater than myself. This land is so full of powerful beings, it's a wonder how the whole world has not collapsed under their weight."

Tosti thoughtfully lays his cleaned sword down by the bonfire and stretches out his legs.

"The journey here was painful, so I think I will take your advice and let my spirit rest for a bit while I am here. What's the story behind this Artorias? Is he the one who caused all this corruption?"
May 3, 2017 11:17 pm
Far from it, the Artorias had come to Oolacile to repel the darkness, but was alas consumed by it. Before that he was one of four knights who served the lord of Light. There were four knights at one point, the wolf, the hawk, the hornet and the dragon. They all left these lands, and established new legends far off, save the wolf Artorias who's death here in Oolacile has trapped him here.
May 6, 2017 1:15 am
After resting for a bit, Tosti prepares to venture out once again.

"It's time for me to head for that ruined city once more. It's a rough place, so we'll probably meet again at this bonfire. Hopefully I can find Artorias and put him to rest once more..."

He says his goodbyes, picks up his sword, and heads back outside.

You exit the glade from the same way you came in but find that you are not back where you were before. You are closer to Oolacile then you were, and there is a clear path into the city. From this distance you can finally resolve what the squat building is; a large squat coliseum that forms the focus of the city. The streets are tight and winding offering plenty of potential ambush points.
May 9, 2017 11:26 am
Tosti will mark his summon sigil onto the ground in case any other travelers come by, and will then start exploring the city. Seeing potential for lots of ambushes, he casts 'Shield of Faith' on himself and heads towards the colosseum with his sword readied.
OOC:
+2 to my AC for about 10 minutes
May 9, 2017 11:31 am
How are you heading up? Just wandering in, carefully checking everything, sneaking?
May 9, 2017 11:38 am
OOC:
Walking at a slow pace and checking around corners, but not sneaking or anything. Sort of like a guy who thinks he owns the place, confident that he can take out any small fry who attacks.

Your travel through the outskirts of town is rather unhindered, you see down side paths that there may be fights to be had but the foes do not block your path at first. Coming around a tight corner you see eight of those corrupted figures, seven of which seem to be prostrating to the eigth which is convulsing.
OOC:
You have a surprise round of sorts, but don't get the bonus of enemies being unaware.

OOC:
What's the terrain look like? Any choke points of areas that won't allow them to swarm me?
May 10, 2017 10:45 pm
OOC:
oops sorry I though I had described the scene you walked into better...
You stand at the entrance of a town square. The path you walked in on is wide enough for carts so about 10 feet across. If you run across the share you could to a corner but that would take your turn.
May 10, 2017 10:58 pm
Tosti makes a dash for the other side of the square in order to get into a more favorable position. He's not sure what the monsters are doing, but he'd rather no get surrounded on all sides again.

With a horrible gurgling the bowed monstrosities fall to the ground dead. The dark corruption within the flowing up the remaining thing, who's head suddenly explodes as a twisted serpant made from raw darkness oozes out. The new threat runs two area you.

I made an amazing typo up there, it was supposed to be Serpent not Servant...
Your javelin flings into the monstrous and though there is an arc of lightning running through it the creature seems to endure the blow. The creature the snake grew out of lumbers toward you allowing it to slam into you but you bring your shield up just in time.

Tosti's arm stings from the serpent's blow, but he quickly returns with his own attacks.
OOC:
It keeps removing my first roll, for some reason. Also add a D8 to each attack if the monster is a fiend/undead.

As you deive your blade into the beast despair flows out of it through your blade, each blow drains your essence and saps your strength.
OOC:
Each time you hit the creature you accumulate a -1 (to a maximum of -5) penalty to attack rolls. This will clear away when you rest at a bonfire and each time you use an estus the penalty gets reduced by one.
The serpent retorts by trying to slam it's horrendous form into you again but once more your should blocks it

Spending so many spell slots took a toll on Tosti, and he catches his breath while the serpent thrashes around wildly. He charges and attempts to behead the beast, burning out the rest of his divine energy in the process. He then pulls back his sword and downs some estus.
OOC:
Not sure of the AC, so I've been rolling damage for everything

With those last two blows the creature destabilises and collapses into a pull of liquid dark and you absorb 8 Abyss-touched souls. There is a clear path to continue along to get to the arena.
May 15, 2017 11:30 am
Tosti catches his breath for a moment, and attempts to figure out what just happened. He investigates the puddle of goo and the property damage inflicted by the beast. He's careful not to touch anything.

Strange, what is this goo? Something from the abyss?

Afterwards, he heads for where the arena (where his thinks it is, at least).

Rossi realised that the serpent was a manifestation of the abyss drawn out but the undead a ritual. The serpent manifested from within that central figure and if you were to spot such rituals in the future and kill their focus you may be able to aboid facing this thing again...

Though again there are paths you could branch of from, Tosti sticks to the path up to the Arena. As you arrive at the entrance a pair of knights guard the way.
May 19, 2017 11:45 pm
Tosti scratches his beard, and studies the two knights to determine if either one is Artorias (or if they are even hollowed).

Hmm...

The knights have either been hollow for some time or is greatly ground down from being near the abyss. Though there uniforms have features you recognise from the myth of the Wolf Artorias it's clear that they are not the foe you seek...
