1.2 Shadows of Ourselves

Two hellwasps fall out of the sky (3&4) stone dead, twitching before finally falling still. The last remaining hellwasp takes a solid thump from Domitius Minion. It looks to be on it's last wings and another decent hit should kill it. Until then it takes one last, slightly wobbly swoop at Domitius, connecting successfully and making Domitius wince.

The final hellwasp collapses to the ground in a heap. The cavernous maw that is the Devouring Dark is completely silent. The bridge ahead of you awaits. Beyond the bridge are three vast tunnels, with 60' high ceilings each. The tunnels all lead forward.

The three tunnels all take a downward trajectory. The two rightmost tunnels are identical in texture. A dry, pulsating floor. This is not stone, it is a living breathing organism. You would swear that in both of these tunnels that placing your torch into the opening actually makes the tunnel darker. But that should be impossible.

The third tunnel (leftmost) is also reminiscent of a living organism, like the intestine of a strange heaving beast. This one is slick with black moisture though.

All you can tell is that it seems to be secreted by the walls and the ceiling (as opposed to being a separate unrelated substance).

The tunnel continues downhill. You'd swear that you can feel the floor underneath you pulsate as you walk on it. Surely that must be your imagination though, right? After about 60 feet of walking, the tunnel ends abruptly at an opening. The cavern beyond seems to have no ceiling, in fact, you're pretty sure you can see stars above you.

Of more pressing importance however is the fact that your access top this further cavern is blocked by a 20 foot wide, fast flowing ink-black river which gushes through from right to left (as you look at it) in a torrent.
