System & Game Information
Pathfinder 1st Edition (PF1E) in the Midnight Setting, rule changes in linked documents.
Tone: Dark, grim, glimmers of hope.
Pace: 5-6 posts per week, one post per workday, one post per weekend/liberty period.
Players: 5–6
Applications close: 14 Jun 25
Expected Start: 16 Jun 25
Disclaimers:

-Mature Content: Midnight contains themes that are controversial and/or triggering. This game will not focus on those themes, but they could come up in players backstories or by NPCs describing events off screen or in the past.

-Ethical: The GM has been and will be using AI to generate content for this game.

-Length: The Shard of Starfall game is intended as a 'one-shot' that could potentially turn into a longer campaign, depending on a variety of factors. Should that occur, players participating in the one-shot will be grandfathered into the campaign, if they have the interest in doing so.

-Player count: We will always be aiming for six players. However, the game will continue when five are active. Depending on those players and the party make-up, the game may continue with four, until more can be found recruited.

Set in the world of Midnight
A century has passed since Izrador's triumph. The world of Aryth lies in shadow. Magic is forbidden, the gods are silent, and hope is a rare.

Yet...

In the Ishensa Basin, strange lights dance in the skies, forgotten songs whisper through the trees, something ancient is stirring.

An Erunsil scout escapes with a dire warning: something unknown, powerful, has awakened.

From Greybarrow, a call goes out—not for war, but for truth.

You are among those who answered.

Character Creation
Level: 3
Attributes: 25 Point Buy
Race and class: Midnight-specific only
Heroic Paths: Player's Choice
Feats: PF1E(with restrictions) +Midnight-specific Feats
Magic: Rare, dangerous, and hunted; caster PCs face constant peril
Character Sheet: PF1E or Midnight-specific Character Sheet (linked below)

Applying

First: Read the linked materials

Adventures in Midnight

One-shot Primer

Not required reading:

The World of Midnight

PDF Character Sheet

All linked Materials were created by the GM to be OGL safe

Second: post in the recruitment thread with:

-Character sheet: you can use the PDF above, the standard Pathfinder character sheet from gamers plane, or
[ +- ] use this one.
(I honestly don't care about the format. If you can edit BBCode, so long as all the information is on there, go wild.)

-Your backstory: There are no specific length requirements. That said, I don’t want to read entire books, and two four sentence paragraphs is probably not sufficient to create an engaging back story. General rule of thumb, a little less or around a page is the golden zone, in my experience.

-Any potential issues with posting requirements: I understand life happens and will not be overly zealous about the enforcement of the posting requirements. However, if you begin to bog down the game, we may need to implement a work around. If it becomes a large enough issue, you could be removed from the game.

-Experience level with Pathfinder 1E and/or Midnight: To be clear, newcomers to both are welcome. Prior familiarity with the Midnight Setting is not expected. As far as Pathfinder goes, I want to know the level of experience I’m working with in case I see perceived mistakes I can advise ‘offline’ of rules you may not be privy to.

-If you have questions or see errors, feel free to send me a message or post in the forum.

Happy Gaming.

At first glance, that looks like a very comprehensive conversion. Impressive!

I'm very familiar with MN, and while I've never played PF1e I did play 3.5 so I know the bones, and I own the PF1e core rulebook and have listened to PF podcasts enough that I feel like I have a broad grasp of it.

Can I ask you to specify what content? Images is one thing, text is another. I have no interest in expending creative energies roleplaying with a sophisticated chatbot.

Thanks, AI helped a lot. :D

I used it for images, for sure.

I also used AI extensively to help me plow through Section 1 of the Core Rulebook, converting everything from 3.5 to PF1E, making the handouts OGL safe, generating tables, formatting, etc...

Section 2 will be in development once I finish converting the Midnight Character sheet to suit the campaign's purposes. (No AI to help with that one...)

Creatively, I run what I want to write through AI, look to see if I like the suggestions, mostly grammar, syntax, that sort of thing. Tweak it when it comes back out.

Story wise, 'content' wise, it's all me. I use AI to improve the final product while saving time, that's how I see it anyway. Some people have issues with it though, so I'm up front about it. You're under no obligation to engage, but I'm gonna keep doing it that way. No hard feelings if it's a deal killer.

I appreciate the explanation. So long as a human has first and final say on the material and the bot is essentially a glorified spellchecker it shouldn't be a problem.

Concept-wise, I've always been interested in the idea of defenders as 'errant knights without armour', protectors of the common folk dressed in rags instead of heraldry and armed with peasant weapons or bare fists. I'm brainstorming along the lines of Dornish or Erenlander populist tough-guy or scion of lost nobility.

Awesome, I'm glad it wasn't a deal killer. 😅

Sounds like a great concept for a Defender, I can't wait to see the character.

Let me just say that primer does a fantastic job of laying out what you want to see from players. Might take a bit to pull together such an extensive application, however!

I've been out of the game for a while, this is intended as a genuine question.

What makes it so hefty?

From my perspective, it's pretty typical character generation (with varying amounts of reading, depending on familiarity) and three things to work into a back story. There's a few new things to adjust to, the way languages work, heroic paths, rule adjustments, I didn't think it overly cumbersome though.

You want a full sheet and a background as an application. A lot of GMs will just ask for a concept at first.

Edit: Not a criticism, mind. You're entitled to ask for whatever you like. I'm just glad the application deadline is in two weeks. :)

Good luck with this, Hero. Have loved this setting since Dirigible first introduced me to it, oh, about eighty years ago. (At least that's what it feels like.)

I see. Maybe I'm out of touch. From what I remember, this is a pretty standard ask. Could be a failure of my memory or perhaps this community has different standards that what I was accustomed to.

Man, you guys are on another level. Never would have thought to use AI for that sort of thing. The only "tool" i use when i write is Merriam-Webster dictionary.

I use AI for a lot things, work, recreation, school...

My mindset stays primed for how I can improve a process using AI or any other tools I have at my disposal.

Wow. Nice. Interesting and is PF1E which is nice. I like to put my hat in to be one of your six. Who knows, my character might become a hero or something. (Pun intended)

I have looked over: Do you wish some pre'information about an applied character?

I would love to join.
I don't have a whole lot of Pathfinder experience.
I haven't played it in a while.

It's mostly as if people are new to systems they might need DM help building, or also to co-ordinate with other players. Some people may also feel wasted effort if they go through making a sheet and character background and then not being accepted. So yeah here just concepts (or even just showing interest) is more common, but you are free to donit this way as well!

This game sounds interesting, sadly I'm full with games at the moment or I would throw my hat in. Good luck!

Seelah, Human (Erenlander) Guardian Fighter

Character Sheet

https://i.imgur.com/qa4TQew.jpeg
A statuesque woman of Erelandish descent, Seelah is a Guardian devoted to House Redgard and their good-aligned causes. Losing her parents early in life, but clinging to hope of guarding others from such loss. Her heroic path manifested thusly as a squire, and as an heir to an ancestral weapon, Seelah lives her life along a moral line of upholding truth, helping those who cannot help themselves, and showing mercy to those who can be redeemed. All in honored tribute and dedication, to her fallen sister Acemi.

Seelah was raised alone and afraid on violent city streets in Alvedara. Her family having arrived south from central lands as Pellurian refugees. Given to a homeless existence after her parents were murdered by orc raiders, Seelah learned how to survive all on her own. Squatting in meager shelter, stealing food, and making off with whatever tradable items she could abscond. Including an ornate helmet, belonging to a secretive guardian named Acemi.

Upon discovering the Erelandish urchin trying to abscond with her helm, the bladebearer known as Acemi considered turning Seelah over to benevolent villagers. But upon getting to know the child, and seeing the potential in her, Acemi instead took Seelah under her knightly wing. All with the blessings of Ejesina, chief-knight of the Guardians. Acemi still but a young woman herself, the two soon developed a relationship not unlike older and younger sisters, close in age, and sometimes full of sibling sentiment!

https://i.imgur.com/Ah6LsOS.jpegI’m glad you tried taking the helmet, and not the sword, Acemi one day quipped to her squire. And it was then, that Acemi showed Seelah her prized sword. Bladeguard. A sword of exceptional quality, forged of cold-iron, and used by forebears of the guardians for long years past.

Seelah accompanied Acemi on secretive missions, as her squire, and as her friend. Keeping Acemi’s armor well-oiled, and her ancestral blade sharp. And all just went as it should. Until it didn’t.

One fateful day, while adventuring in the Veradeen, Acemi was gravely wounded. Seelah ran up to help, but alas - there were no healing potions left, and there was nothing out young Erenlander could do. Seelah held her sister gently, and Acemi died in her arms. It was only upon returning to the guardian stronghold, and turning the blade in to her superiors, Seelah was given the news. Acemi had named Seelah her sister-knight, and had bequeathed Bladeguard to her.

Now wielding the sword of guardian forebears, along with other equipment formerly held by her liege, and now mentored by Chief-Knight Ejesina, Seelah makes knightly pledge. To help those who cannot help themselves, and to represent the Guardians as a proud and faithful knight.

https://i.imgur.com/nImy9nC.jpegBe ever vigilant Seelah, said Chief-Knight Ejesina. Uphold truth, redeem that which may be redeemed…and be the steadfast guardian your sister-knighted was.

Bound by sword and word, Seelah aligns with like-minded company. Hoping to shine a glimmering light in a bleak world of continued midnight. This time, not stowing away on the caravan, but riding at its fore.

And it seems Seelah’s adventure is about to begin!

Any potential issues with posting requirements: No potential issues.

Experience level with Pathfinder 1E and/or Midnight: Never played Midnight, but several years experience playing PF1E.

Cheers.

Good afternoon, I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. Thanks for the effort!

I updated the Adventuring (Now Adventures) in Midnight and One-shot Primer docs. Based on feedback and added some much needed polish. For anyone frustrated by not being able to find Spell Energy information, it's in there now.

Continuing to work on stuff behind scenes. Will keep an eye out for more submissions!

Thanks for the updates! I will keep consulting the latest version and delete any previous downloads, but the 'missing information' was very much few and far between.
