I'll see about finding that last part. Phenna says, as she starts hunting around again.
OOC:
Should be difficulty 3 now with the breakthrough. Using momentum and another determination.
OOC:
Postroll:

3d20 - ( 6, 19, 13 ) = 38
6d6 - ( 1, 3, 2, 4, 3, 6 ) = 19

determination for 2 successes. 2 rolls under TN for 2 successes. 4 total successes on a difficulty 3 is a +1 momentum.
1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 6 for CD gives 4 progress (1 + 2 + 1 effect), which should be enough for the other breakthrough from progress.

Rolls

Reason+Conn= TN 14, 6 [CD]. +1d20 Momentum - (3d20, 6d6)

3d20 : (61913) = 38

6d6 : (132436) = 19

Phenna goes out and looks through the debris outside the station. The primitive humanoids seem to be keeping their distance after the scuffle earlier, but you see them hiding in the bushes now and then. After a few minutes of digging through what is left of the tools and storage units next to the landing bay you find the off axis field controller you need for the port nacelle. You are confident you'll be able to get the ship running within the hour once you get back there.
OOC:
Well done! Phenna will recieve a point of determination for completing the challenge. Now that you have the parts, fixing the ship is a difficulty 0 task as soon as you get the parts there.

With the plan seemingly understood, Nadim heads out with Thyran looking for specimens. Nadim has his bag in one hand and phaser in the other -- no telling when one of those pseudo-neanderthals will show up and a little phaser action might help scare them off.

That said, he does focus, primarily on finding a specimen.

Rolls

Empathy + Science (13) - (1d20, 1d20)

1d20 : (14) = 14

1d20 : (1) = 1

Dec 31, 2016 12:29 pm
Nadim and Thyran enters the jungle, and after some searching you discover a seemingly pristine sample candidate; a purple cactus-like plant with yellow fruit-like pods near the top. The cactus is roughly 12 foot high, but you only need to gather one of the pods.
OOC:
Nadim or Thyran may perform a Bravery or Control + Science Task with a Difficulty of 3 to gather the specimen.
Dec 31, 2016 4:13 pm
While the rest of the team has been moving to their various tasks, Sevek has been quietly working at one of the outpost's science stations and attempting to find some correlation between the Irumodic Syndrome research being conducted here and the storm. Perhaps the storm caused a mutation in the disease or an unexpected chemical reaction in the cure being researched that somehow triggered the devolution process.
OOC:
I (the player) am still away from home for the holidays, so I'm still not able to make regular posts for another few days.
OOC:
Sevek uses 1 Momentum to attempt 3 successes.

Rolls

Reason (11) + Science (5) = TN 16 + 1 Momentum - (1d20, 1d20, 1d20)

1d20 : (4) = 4

1d20 : (6) = 6

1d20 : (7) = 7

2CD + skill (Science, 5) - (1d6, 1d6, 1d6, 1d6, 1d6, 1d6, 1d6)

1d6 : (4) = 4

1d6 : (4) = 4

1d6 : (2) = 2

1d6 : (6) = 6

1d6 : (3) = 3

1d6 : (2) = 2

1d6 : (6) = 6

Dec 31, 2016 5:21 pm
OOC:
I count 4 successes, so you use one momentum and gain one. I count 6/8 progress and 1/2 required breakthroughs
Sevek explores several different hypotheses, mostly regarding what effects the ion storm may have caused. After looking for traces of harmful ionic particles, or any dangerous radiation from the storm Sevek instead looks at the local flora and fauna. The initial tests show that the local flora reacts oddly when exposed to the ratiation from the storm. Sevek is confident that further exploration into this might lead to the cause of the devolution.
OOC:
You are close, you only need 2 progress to continue. For simplicity, I'm assuming each task takes roughly the same time, so at the time when this breakthrough is made, Phenna is half way in gathering supplises, and Nadim/Thyran has found the first specimen.
Dec 31, 2016 10:28 pm
"So, the giant purple one with the big spikes, eh Nadim?"

Thyran looks the plan over and spies a few pods at the top that would make great samples. Using a long stick he attempts to knock one off.

Control 11 + Science 2 = 13 target
Use two momentum for extra d20s

Rolls

Collect the first sample, tgt 13 - (4d20)

(101376) = 36

Jan 1, 2017 1:21 am
OOC:
4 successes, -1 momentum
Thyran manages to knock down one of the pods with the long stick, then deftly and gently catches them mid air. Taking out a sample container, you stow them safely away and make note of time, date, location and other relevant data.
OOC:
Good job. You have bagged 1/3 samples!
Jan 1, 2017 6:12 pm
"Well done. Perhaps next time I can find a way to help. That looked a bit teeter-tottery there for a bit." Nadim remarks. He takes out his tricorder and begins the search for some additional plantlife that will give insight into the cure for the disease. "Remarkable opportunity really.." he mutters to himself.
OOC:
2 successes!
After a bit of walking about for a bit he looks up. "Hello. What do we have here?"

Rolls

Empathy + Science (13) - (1d20, 1d20)

1d20 : (3) = 3

1d20 : (10) = 10

Walking further into the jungle you see many of the plants you identified as dangerous earlier. And, as luck has it, one of them is on the list. A big bulbous plant that is pink at the roots and grows into a pale green at it's 4 foot height. You know that the bright green parts you see are six air-filled pods in that plant, and that they are filled with harmful spores. You need to retrieve one of the sweet smelling resin glands that reside in the cavity between the glands.
OOC:
Well done. As before, collecting a sample requires a Bravery or Control + Science Task with a Difficulty of 3
Jan 1, 2017 10:16 pm
"I wonder, Thyran." Nadim offers. "Perhaps I could inoculate you against these spores in the short term, making the task of retrieving the important elements a bit easier?" Nadim begins to fiddle with his hypospray.
OOC:
Proposing to assist Thyran with collection with a Reason + Medicine roll.

Well, since I failed the roll, that's a 'no'.
"Damn and blast. I could have sworn I had a vial of that Genackian Snot Gland extract..." Nadim rummages in his bag, but to no avail.

Rolls

Reason + Medicine (14) - (1d20)

(18) = 18

Jan 2, 2017 1:28 am
Thyran nods his head toward Nadim, "Not to worry. I have the steady hands of a surgeon..." *awkward pause* "No offense..."
OOC:
Thyran will attempt a Bravery (11) + Science (2) for a 13 target, again spending 2 momentum for 4 total d20s
Thyran approaches the plant slowly, circling it to determine the easiest point of entry. He rolls up his uniform sleeve, exposing his blue, wiry muscled, and hairless forearm, then gently eases his hand between the bright green air & spore sacks attempting to grasp a resin gland.

With his head turned away in case the spores explode into his face, he slowly inserts his hand up to his elbow, twists off a resin gland, then slowly extracts his arm, holding up his prize for Patil, "Got it!"

Rolls

retreive resin gland - (4d20)

(41135) = 23

Jan 2, 2017 5:00 am
Nadim carefully packs it away, smiling at the Thyran's comment. "Excellent. Just one more to find then, isn't that right?" He consults his datapad before tapping away at his tricorder, setting up the next step in their ion storm scavenger hunt.
OOC:
Waiting just in case there's stuff we should be paying attention to before I roll another discovery roll.

OOC:
2 down, 1 to go. This is almost looking too easy ;) Just go ahead and do the next one. Also, Sevek and Martinez may continue on the cure. (time wise they are still some tasks behind you).
Jan 2, 2017 4:16 pm
Nadim's tricorder leads the way on the search for the third, and final, specimen required by the scientists. "This is rather like a New Year's scavenger hunt, isn't it?" He suggests, absent-mindedly forgetting that he's walking on a planet with a blue-skinned alien who likely has very different traditions from his youth...
OOC:
Going to use a die of momentum to help ensure success. Looks like 4 successes? So +2 momentum?
"Ah! Here we go." He pauses and scans. "Yes, this here is the last one."

Rolls

Empathy + Science (13) (with 1 momentum) - (1d20, 1d20, 1d20)

1d20 : (11) = 11

1d20 : (2) = 2

1d20 : (1) = 1

Jan 2, 2017 7:19 pm
OOC:
Quite right. That tops you off at 6 momentum.
A bit further into the jungle you spot the last specimen in the top of a tree. A purple reptile about 20 cm long with a great bushy cyan tail and tiny sharp teeth. You need a sample of its acidic salvia, hopefully without receiving any of it on yourselves (or getting bitten), as it's got a bit of a sting to it..
Jan 2, 2017 8:15 pm
"This should be no problem," as he sets his phaser to kill and takes aim.

Then his starfleet training kicks in and he lowers his weapon.

"Maybe I can get it to bite something." Thyran looks around for a longish stick and begins to climb. If the lizard thing tries to run away, he'll consider stunning it, but he'll make his best attempt to get it to bite the stick.
OOC:
control 11 + science 2 = 13 target; spend 2 momentum for 4 dice vs 3 difficulty
OOC:
oh crap!

Rolls

climb, antagonize reptile with stick - (4d20)

(1514318) = 50

Jan 3, 2017 9:09 am
OOC:
Ouch, bad rolls :o
Thyran starts climbing, but the reptile spots you and moves further up the tree. Not one to give up so easily, Thyran follows further up the tree. On the next branch he is surprised when the reptile jumps down and bites his hand, causing him to slip and fall down with a big thump.
OOC:
Thyran takes 5 damage. You may accept becoming Injured or spend 1 Momentum to resist the Attack.

Rolls

Bite and falling damage: 3[CD] Vicious 1 - (3d6)

(651) = 12

Jan 3, 2017 1:19 pm
OOC:
Thyran will take the damage, 5/14. The roll is 3, are the other two points related to the Vicious property and two effects rolled? Can he get the saliva from the bite?!?
Disoriented for a moment after landing flat on his back and having the wind knocked out of him, Thyran attempts to leap up into a defensive posture and winces at the piercing pain of a broken rib under his left clavicle. When he reaches for his phaser, he then feels the sting of the acidic bite on his shooting (and stick wielding) arm.

With a bit of a struggle Thyran wheezes, "Doc, a little help? Acid burn on the bite on my arm and I think I have a broken rib," as he orients his gaze onto his small, blue, fuzzy adversary.

OOC:
The extra damage is from Vicious 1, which gives 1 more damage per effect.

Damage and injuries basically work like the progress track of challenges, where the damage taken is progress, and injuries are breakthroughs.

You were injured because you took 5 damage, and once injured you have to spend a point of Determination if you want to participate further in the scene.
Alpha1.2Rules says:
An Injured character cannot attempt Tasks or perform Minor Actions, and is essentially no longer participating in the scene, unless that character spends one Determination to keep fighting. Spending a point of Determination here allows the character to keep fighting normally despite being Injured for the rest of the scene.

Recovering from Injury is another matter. If the Attack or hazard that inflicted the Injury was intended to Stun, then the Injury is recovered automatically at the end of the scene: the character regains consciousness without difficulty, though they may be in an awkward situation if the enemy managed to capture them in the process.
In this case, well.. I'm not sure what the little fellar was intending to do, but I'm regarding this as a "Stun" injury. In any case you are knocked out for the rest of the scene unless you spend determination. "Treating" your injuries doesn't need a check, and is only a RP opportunity. I'm not completely certain on what constitutes a "scene" here, but I'm interpreting it to be until the task is done (little bugger' is caught).
