Ander leaps back to the oars, heaving at it with all his might.

As soon as the Troll topples overboard Dustin runs to his oar as well and starts paddling.

Seeming more worried about the whirlpool then the troll.

As you all pull on the various parts, some trying to add help to the process, you still can't beat the whirl. Your boat starts to slide over the edge, now precariously sliding down onto the whirlpool. Thankfully, your crates are secured well and they don't go flying off, however you all begin struggling to find purchase on the deck. If you don't start pulling out now, you'll likely have to fight to stay aboard the vessel! You now need four successes to climb out. Or you can abandon ship and individually swim out and complete your Darklake time as swimmers.
OOC:
a note on group checks. The majority have to beat the DC to succeed, so consider that when picking who will help. Realistically , only five people can help without being disadvantaged because you have 4 rowing stations with things to help row and the tiller spot. Any other rowers are at a disadvantage because of the unwieldiness of the oars without oarlocks. Georges and Eldreth should be two of the rowers with the +5 and +4 athletics. Likely Cemos and Ander as well with positive modifiers. Then one other to help dig out. Given that, we'll start the next group attempt now. :)

OOC:
Does it look like we would die if we just let the thing suck us into the whirlpool?
Mar 22, 2017 10:16 pm
OOC:
it's 150' across and like 400' deep. So while it may not outright kill you, it would probably hurt, a lot.
Mar 22, 2017 10:33 pm
OOC:
Do we still have a strength potion ?
Mar 23, 2017 2:32 am
OOC:
I have 1 but I don't think we need it. I have a +6 but if you want I can give it to someone.
Mar 23, 2017 1:11 pm
OOC:
Ok my vote for rowers, should be our strongest. Our NPCs and Cemos and maybe Ander as a Gorilla or something strong.
Mar 23, 2017 2:28 pm
Ander's form ripples and bulges as he assumes the hairy form of an ape, who promptly latches onto the oar with his nimble fingers and begins to heave with all his strength.
OOC:
This is with the assumption that a bear would not be able to graps the oar to row. If it would be able to, let me know plz @Drama.

Rolls

Strength Check - (1d20+3)

(12) + 3 = 15

Mar 23, 2017 6:35 pm
OOC:
Ander, as an Ape you're actually at +5 for this since it is an Athletics check. Either way, yours is a success. :) Will roll the NPCs and see if we need more.

Rolls

NPC Athletics - (1d20+5, 1d20+4, 1d20)

1d20+5 : (14) + 5 = 19

1d20+4 : (19) + 4 = 23

1d20 : (1) = 1

As Ander, Georges, and Eldreth lean into the oars, regardless of the performance of their Dwarven friend Cemos, they manage to drive the boat up the sea-wall! You are now over the precipice, back toward being flat. You still need to make a few more checks to see if you fully survive!
OOC:
For the sake of time, I can roll these for you since you don't have decisions really moving forward, there's no troll to distract you. ;)

Rolls

Cemos and Ander - (1d20+6, 1d20+6)

1d20+6 : (17) + 6 = 23

1d20+6 : (17) + 6 = 23

NPC Strength Checks - (1d20+5, 1d20+4, 1d20)

1d20+5 : (4) + 5 = 9

1d20+4 : (13) + 4 = 17

1d20 : (7) = 7

Cemos and Ander (Next Set!) - (1d20+6, 1d20+6)

1d20+6 : (11) + 6 = 17

1d20+6 : (10) + 6 = 16

NPC Strength Checks (Next Set!) - (1d20+5, 1d20+4, 1d20)

1d20+5 : (7) + 5 = 12

1d20+4 : (18) + 4 = 22

1d20 : (14) = 14

After a few more harrowing moments, with muscles straining and the boat creaking, you drive the ship further and further from the violent whirlpool and settle out on the smooth seas.

For now, you can RP a bit. I've got more information at home for next events and activities, so I'll update when I get home. Those of you that weren't on shift should likely go back to sleep to get your long rest in. That would be Cemos, Eldreth, and Francis.
Mar 23, 2017 6:45 pm
I will be so glad to get off this lake. It's crazy.

Dustin shakes his head, How do those trolls even live near those whirlpools. He continues his shift. Paddling them and hoping to see a shore.
Mar 23, 2017 7:46 pm
Ander shifts back into his true form, breathing heavily. "That was a close shave to be sure," he says, a tired smile on his face. He promptly finds a corner and curls up, almost dog-like, and is soon sleeping soundly, oblivious to the world around him. The water slips by beneath the boat's keel, just as the time slips by without Ander's knowledge.
Mar 24, 2017 12:03 am
OOC:
Technically you are still on duty ;)
As you set back out after the vortex, the time does indeed slip by like the water under the keel. First shift, and then second, fade away. Near the end of the third shift's duty, a rocky shore appears in the glowing light of the faerzress in the distance. As you get within a few hundred feet, the cavern ceiling gets lower, only 15 feet or so over the waterline, close enough to just barely miss the top of your boat. The glow pulses as your eyes flicker across it. Stands of zurkhwoods line the shore, and you see several small frog creatures hopping along the shore. You've found the edge of the Darklake! With a quick pace, you're only a day's march from Neverlight Grove!

What are you guys doing?
