"Ah," says Ulfren, giving Dirk's sled one final push to secure it in place. "Save your song, lad. I know Gunnar enough that there's a signal we ought to pay attention to." The barbarian strides over as beckoned.

Ryyrik sets down the ropes of Dirk's sled and takes a seat next to it, uncorking a flask and taking a swig from it.

You hear nothing more from inside.

OOC:
Aww, just wasted a nat 20!
Baern moves to the door, opening it slowly with warhammer in hand.

While his friends move towards the front of the house, Gunnar circles around to cover the back.
Mar 3, 2017 4:31 am
Ulfren walks up to where Gunnar was, and as the other moves off, stands there wondering what the signal was for. He looks over to the house and his companion trying to open the door, and elects to remain where he is. For now.

Gunnar pauses in a crouch and looks back at Ulfren, signalling for him to watch the window. He would have whispered to the others what he saw exactly, but as Baern had gone straight to the door Gunnar had had to react quickly and cover the rear.

Ulfren nods, then looks back to Ryyrik. "I think he's gotta pee," he says with a smirk, before returning his eyes to the window.

Billy, finally noticing what's going on, starts walking straight toward the front door. AHOY THE HOUSE! he calls out in a booming voice. As he walks steadily closer, he continues to call out, but not as loudly. My name's Bildarrak Neingald, but you can call me Billy. Yers is the first sign a life we've seen in many a day, and a welcome sight it is. If'n yer short on supplies, I've food aplenty I'm willin' ta share. I can even offer you a song as we eat. I'd just ask fer a bit a news in return. As he gets to the door, if Baern hasn't already opened it, he'll knock, gently but firmly.

Phineas is trying a few diaphram-stretching exercises when he realizes everyone's rushing off.

They've found something?

He walks quickly to catch up to the rest, and sees Billy walking straight up to the door and hears his greeting. It's nice to hear a smile in his voice again.

"More likely to be ghosts here than men. Watch yourself Billy!" Phineas calls out. Realizing too late that the occupant(s) of the house could hear him too, he hastily adds "Not that there's anything wrong with being a ghost!"

"What?" Ulfren asks, point-blank at Phineas. He nearly turns to look at the dwarf, but manages to watch the window as advised.

"Well, you know, with so many dying here so brutally without proper burial, surely some of their spirits are restless."
Mar 3, 2017 3:48 pm
"And nothing's wrong with that?" Ulfren mutters. He looks around, furtively.

"Intangibility probably does pose some day-to-day difficulties. I've read about many kinds of spirits - ghosts, shadows, spectres, wraiths ..." Phineas pauses, then picks up on Ulfren's nervousness and hastily adds "Oh, did I mention that clerics of The Mother of Safety like Billy are most adept at dispelling angry spirits?"

Phineas's Druidic training taught him that life and death are all part of the same eternal journey and nothing to fear. But now that he sees Ulfren's reaction he can't help but feel a bit jumpy too.

Baern deftly moves out of the way just as a broom swishes by his head.
"Don't ye know how to knock!" an old frail voice squeaks.
OOC:
The nat 20 saved ya!
Mar 4, 2017 1:42 am
OOC:
Haha, thanks!
Baern pushes the door open the rest of the way. "I was unsure of who was inside," Baern says flatly. "Are you hurt?"
Mar 4, 2017 2:29 am
"Do ghosts speak like that?" Ulfren asks.
Mar 4, 2017 3:28 pm
"Hurt? Ha! I just killed an orc with this broom and you come in here with an ice spell or blizzard on yer back. Witches are ye?" The old lady rambles off.
Mar 4, 2017 4:57 pm
"I've neither ice spells nor blizzards," Baern says calmly, "and I am not a witch. Are you?"
