I had come across this image which gets quite a good grasp on Grigor himself, but when I saw all the images of the other PC's I began to doubt myself. Haha!
I think it's great!

P'm not aiming for a rapid start to this one, as part of the drive for this game is having a well developed home for the characters which you guys contribute towards. I wouldn't mind seeing an episode 0 in a week, so long as most of the details are finalised.

Honestly there is no rush...

Gen, did you see my last note? I think you skipped it XD

Could have sworn I had responded to that. I like the new name you proposed, really suits what we're going for!

Okay cool! Just wanted to make sure you confirmed it. Knights of the Undaunted Crusade it is!

An isolated town, with no imports or exports, would have little or no economy. Is everything communal? Barter system? Is there a strong government forcing a certain economy? Is it a black market? Are there protected farms, both for produce and livestock?

It's obvious: crops and livestock respawn every time you return to the town square! Try this: kill that chicken over there. See, it respawned! Unlimited resources, man!

Heh...

Really I'm looking at a communal sort of thing. The town really came together when the dark star fell, everyone working hard to keep the whole town going. There are a few of the close to town farms still in operation, it's been just barely enough to keep everyone going.

Any particular form of government, and head of such government?

Also, I posted a few things in the Setting Details Forums if you want to check out details on the Order and a few characters :)

I'm thinking a loose oligarchy, with the 'leaders' of the town are just notable people about town. So Ser Claymore would be one of them. I like what you've done with the characters.

Cool, thanks for the info. Nice, I'm glad you like them! Is there anything else you'd want me to add before we start? I'm going to go finish up Angels character sheet to add in background features and the likes.

That farm seems familiar. I am pretty certain that farmer owes Grigor something. But I am not too sure why.

Also, would there happen to be a sort of Fighter's Guild? And do we happen to already have a battle master?

I'm can't get the situation out of my head. How an isolated town would survive would be a major factor in the narrative. I have read that you need 2 acres of land to feed for a family of four well. This may include room for pigs (meat) goats (milk) and chickens (eggs). Can the town keep this kind of a standard of living? Has everyone been living way below this level for multiple years? Are they dying? Other resources are critical too, are there winters? Inefficient colonial homes needed "upwards of 40 cords" of wood a year. That is 160 11" trees (per home) according to one chart. Gathering that wood and managing the surrounding woodlands to keep it sustained would be a big deal (says the ranger). everyone would have full time jobs managing the minimal resources just to survive, which sounds about right. I would see that the ranger, if not doing the hunter/gatherer thing to add to the food stores, would be needed to scout for/protect the woodsman, farmers and salt miners while they are doing their jobs. This would be in conjunction with the close combat guarded needed for any resources gathering sortie.
It would take something major to feel the need to abandon these duties. Perhaps a resource crisis has occurs after 9 years of barely getting on? What could a team of adventures be after that would be worth the risk and loss of help at home. A magical artifact that could generate food, wool, fuel? Or one that could offer a larger range of protection than the magic circles (allowing the town to get critical resources from a larger area)?

Speaking of Rangers, perhaps you can add in a Ranger corps organization that was formed purposefully to maintain resources- all the members could also provide good berries to get by.

My whole idea of the Fighters Guild would hold the same purpose as the guild present in the Elder Scrolls, specificially Oblivion. This is the best way to explain it:

The Fighters Guild, present across most of Tamriel, provides a common and, more importantly, public place of training, study, and employment for those of a martial persuasion. The guild is a professional organization chartered by the Emperor to regulate the hiring and training of mercenaries, protect commerce, capture or drive away beasts, and similar security duties. Guild halls can take on a contract from any citizen, provided it does not conflict with the laws or customs of the region.

It would more than likely be a smaller establishment of a guild, but Grigor would definitely be a member of it if it is present in Tirisfel.

I was thinking of adding the remnants of a Rangers/Druids group; I was planning a single 5th level Druid and maybe 4 rangers of lower levels. The Druid can bless what few fields that are safe to have double the yield, and between all of them they can provide 14 castings of Goodberry; enough to sustain 140 people, which is more then my planned town size. So the town can certainly subsist on what's available.

It's pretty temperate, so the town doesn't need a lot of wood; but there is a Forrest between the town and the salt marsh so wood is available (though a risky resource to get).

I was also going to have the town inherit an alchemical jug from the old heroes, so that'll also help.

On fighters guilds; the only plan group I had was a makeshift guard, with the Knights added in I would be reluctant to add a third... Maybe the guild you described above could be the town guards.

On motivation to quest; with the falling of a new star the town needs someone to go out and investigate. You are those someones.

As I said at the start, this campaign could go in a number of directions; it could become a survival style game; where you guys are fighting against the hostile elements trying to let the town thrive, or it could become an atmospheric exploration game, or it could become a dungeon crawl into hell. We'll see which way the game goes...

I was only half joking. It's definitely fun to go simulationist and go for realism (as much realism as can be had in a fantasy world) but definitely not every game/story has to make sense.

So yeah, I'm on board for survival and resource management but also totally on board for just starting with a McGuffin and going hack & slash.

Sounds good to me. I might be overthinking all of this. The only reason I was hesitant to have Grigor be a knight is because they are specially trained to become paladins, whereas Grigor is a fighter.

If you are stretching this out for me, I would be more than okay with him not being a part of a faction. Whichever you might prefer.
