Gilly quietly starts packing up as she says conversationally, "We're about to have company, and not the good kind. Get to the boats, but let's be quiet and quick about it."
Apr 5, 2017 1:56 pm
Hearing Gilly's warning Inar eases his sword in it's sheath as he bends down and starts gathering some things "Which direction lass?" he says to Gilly quietly
Apr 5, 2017 1:58 pm
Gilly flicks her eyes in the direction of the highwaymen then goes back to calmly packing up. "I don't think they've seen us yet."
Apr 5, 2017 2:36 pm
"If you want me to, I can go scout around them, see how many we are up against."
Apr 5, 2017 4:41 pm
Robin was up and packing as soon as Gilly said 'company'. As Thovetar suggests doing some scouting, Robin interjects, "N-n-n-no, I think my sister is right. Let's leave."
Apr 5, 2017 4:48 pm
Inar nods "Discretion would be best so lets try to get loaded and avoid undue notice." he risks a glance in the direction Gilly indicated "Same drill as usual though, if it comes to an engagement with them you two try to stay behind me and Thovetar and help where you can" he finishes as he lifts one of the heavier bundles and moves it towards the boats.
OOC:
I'm going to make a judgement call now and say that Inar's armour is packed away for the journey by boat....trying to swim in mail is not a very good idea!

OOC:
Can I get a Stealth roll from each of you and perhaps an Athletics roll from two of you who are primary boat drivers (my guess would be Inar and Thovetar since Hobbits are a bit more dainty.
Apr 5, 2017 5:19 pm
Robin tries to be as quiet as possible...

Rolls

Stealth - (1d20+8)

(5) + 8 = 13

The four of you get to the boats quickly and Inar and Robin are able to hop in and get out into the lake once more without raising a ruckus. Unfortunately, the boat for Thovetar and Gilly is less fortunate as Gilly slips in the water causing a bit of a spash -- catching herself loudly on the gunwale of the small boat. Whomever is working their way down the shoreline catches sight of this and they immediately begin to give chase.

Both Inar and Thovetar work the boats to the best of their ability -- but in the rush, the currents of the lake around this shoreline are difficult to overcome and you are not able to successfully disengage from what now appears to be a small band of highwaymen -- happy enough to loot the well-known wealth of a dwarf and his small beardless children.

More from me a bit later -- books are squirreled away past a sleeping spouse...

Gilly winces as she splashes.
OOC:
Sorry about missing that roll!
Apr 14, 2017 8:02 am
Robin gasps, and then helps his sister aboard, "Gilly! Quick, get on, get on!"
Apr 17, 2017 11:08 pm
OOC:
Sorry for the hiatus. Skiing was busy busy, then I injured myself and I was tired tired. :) Quick Q. If there are generally 2 boats and one is piloted by Inar and the other Thovetar, how would the hobbits split? Or would they?
Apr 18, 2017 5:33 am
OOC:
Robin would be very hesitant to split, but if Gilly or someone else insisted, he would. If it was a non-issue, he'd be with Gilly.
Apr 18, 2017 7:13 am
OOC:
Well we could have most of the gear and supplies loaded onto one of the boats and the other having the 2 hobbits if they feel more comfortable being together. I'm thinking this is something we'd have hammered out in our previous adventures so we'd just travel like that as a default unless there's a specific reason to do things differently
Apr 18, 2017 9:26 am
OOC:
Agreed. That makes sense.
Apr 18, 2017 6:59 pm
OOC:
Makes total sense to me. It will be so. Inar or Thovetar - you wanna claim a preference for 'stuff' or 'hobbits' as your cargo? Or should we rationalize this based on the fact that Thovetar is the Guide and therefore that means he'd more likely have people (or stuff)?
Apr 18, 2017 7:09 pm
OOC:
i'll take the hobbits
Apr 18, 2017 10:04 pm
Inar is able to quietly scramble into his boat and push away from shore -- but unfortunately Gilly's struggle to get in is either complicated by Thovetar's piloting or complicates it -- and he finds himself unable to push the boat entirely to a safe distance from the shore before a group of rugged looking thugs stumble upon your makeshift camp.

"A dwarf trader with one guard and a couple o' kids!" one of them points out. Weapons are drawn and they make their way, spashing into the shallow water to capture the boat with Thovetar and the 'children'.
OOC:
Let's go ahead and roll initiative and while that's ongoing, I'll do some research and bone up on my 5E combat and flesh out the encounter.
