That's actually a really good idea. (I had forgotten all about it.) Lets do that. I will study through the journal until time to leave, or until asked by a fellow group member to share.

Roland finds himself a secluded area to read the journal in peace. There are many entries which describes his daily duties as a priest, then some mentions his son's death on the old Svalich Road and his eventual descent into madness, but two particular entries stand out from the rest...

Veroth, sitting on the church roof, realizes that he has been holding onto the symbol of ravenkind. He discretely flies down and finds the others to discuss what they should do with it.

Once her spells are healed Heather walks up to Veroth casting 2 iterations of Lesser Restoration to heal is ability damage. After Veroth has received her treatment Heather walks over to Roland as he is reading the journal. His damage is more extensive than she is used to treating but she does her best.
Once Roland is healed Heather asks.
"What is this book that has capturesd your attention so?"

Veroth recalls several instances where he has discerned a devices usage simply by experimenting with it. He is half tempted to try that here, but he recalls rare events where the object has reacted badly to his probings. He knows that the symbol is a holy relic and deserves respect. "Soft ones not damage it. Much caution needs." He reviews his words in his head, and nods.

This being a religious artifact, perhaps pre-madness father danovich had a hand in its binding. Roland with recheck the journal with this specific task in mind.

There are some mention of the holy symbol in the journal, as probably the only thing in this land capable of keeping Strahd at bay. He also mentions accompanying Indirovich, the old Burgomaster to Castle Ravenloft's throne room, which suddenly jogs your memory about Madam Eva's reading. There is also mention of some sacrifice of wealth which was needed in the ceremony, the exact amount left vague...
