No worries, Talius should of been a bit more cold. He didn't want to see his friends die again... All the while Talius is at 8 hp double grappled, disadvantage on all attacks, advantage against me, so naturally,i was thinking of new characters all day today.

For J I offer you this picture, and also in loving memory of Qiu;

J, should Ox and I coordinate on new PCs or go the blind route again?

Bro, Triple H and Qiu would have definitely had many interactions with one another, as both allies and as adversaries.
Haha. After the first time I let my young sons watch wrestling on tv, the next day they asked, "Dad, can we watch that underwear wrestling show again?"
I say Vince McMahon would have loved the Qiu character in the ring. Instead of a shield, Qiu would have probably used collapsible steel chairs to pound downward on people.
And he would definitely drag people around the ring on the mat, much like Chris Jericho does when people try to reach out to get the rope when they suffer the Walls of Jericho.

Kray and Ivor are now in the same general area behind the cabin, yeah? Have they spotted each other though?

They are very close to one another, but at this very moment (R12) they are just out of one another's sight. They have not yet noticed one another, and are separated by a moderate distance and some terrain features.

Kray came from the NW corner of the Yard and sees a trail around the ridge line at it's west-most edge. He is on the left visible side of the storage shed. Cannot see the blood stains that Ivor did. Also Kray has not yet crossed the ridge and entered into the woods beyond.

Ivor previously emerged on the SE, crossed the Yard on the east edge to the shed pretty quickly, and then went over the ridge heading north. Now he has taken a few steps into the woods beyond the ridge.

Passing like ships in the night for the moment, but I predict a soon reunion. Wanted to leave a moment opportunity for you and Ez to assess the circumstance and post up anything you want.

After that we can shift to R13.

Don't plan what bar the new guys are going to after Talius' funeral just yet.
I just sent the layout over to Ox. There is a window still open for a death-defying spectacle of survival. It is a narrow opening, window sliding downward, on a greased slide track maybe...but we still have to hear from the dice.

If it goes bad, then yeah we'll talk again about new character comms.

Ouch. Correction.
Breaking News: RIP Talius.

Umm... yeah, CB. You and Ox can talk if you both agree. Up to you guys to decide on how much or how little to tell each other. I would prefer though that it be done on PM rather than on the boards.
I like the idea of new characters be introduced without everyone in the current line up knowing any background in advance.

Dang, Ox. Talius going down is a sad story. He was a victim of his own kindness - like a medic running out to save a wounded buddy and getting shot himself. Pays to be cold? I think Kray just told us yes, and looks like he might be right.

Fucking Hive assholes!

"What the fuck is that? Where the fuck is everybody? Fingol? Thorn? Masked fuckers?"
OOC:
Qiu? Talius?
That's what Ivor meant by "everybody" when he asked Kray. The roll is OOC, so as a player I'm specifically looking for people I as a player think aren't dead. ;-)

Careful Jabes... I know you've got a ton of hp left, but that gas cloud is an unknown, still expanding, and Phantom just stepped out of it, meaning you're about to be in it. I imagine visibility will be shit in there, saving throws will be shit in there, Thorn and Kray are one hit away from dropped... Also, I've got to wonder if that gas doesn't somehow empower the masked Hivers. Phantom looks like he should be dead. Also, the ranges J gave mean Ivor can't get to Maeriks before Phantom does. Unless Phantom is that close to dead, this all adds up to horrible odds.

Not every fight is meant to be won, and not every foe is meant to be fought. I know that the usual D&D game gives a ton of room for error & easy heroics with soft, coddling DMs (boring), but clearly that is not the case in Dark Thrones.
Fully aware, my friend. Two words: Blinding. Rage.

J, I think Thorn'll wait with his autobiography when it's a little less... gassy. Ez, Jabes, do the three of us need to have a group huddle about what we're doing next, or is it best to regroup back at the cabin like Ez said? As far as your characters know, Bear and Goat are still a threat, right? Also, I suppose it might be worthwhile to go and check to make sure Fingol is not just mostly dead. What do you guys think?
I agree with both of you, we should fall back to the cabin and possibly deal with Bear & Goat. After which, bury or burn Qiu and Talius if there are any remains to be found. But first of all Ivor will want to confirm that Fingol is indeed dead.

2-in-1 question: In almost all cases when you perform a Combat Maneuver you add the superiority die result to the attack's damage roll. But what happens if you perform the maneuver with a net? A net doesn't deal damage, so no damage roll. Mechanically you could just say "Well ok, with a maneuver it deals damage equal to the SD roll." and that'd be that, but I feel like that'd break realism. So here's the second half of my question: how about a weaponized net with barbed hooks and shit for 1d4 damage or something?

DMJ

May 30, 2017 3:19 pm
Yea. I can't see how a normal net would do any damage whatsoever, no matter what the game mechanics are for other weapons and maneuvers.

I could see a net being used on some maneuvers for the results or effects. Thinking of a few posibilities: Trip, Disarm, Push (pull maybe?), Feint (or whatever one that gives you Advantage on next attack). Those might be in play, but the damage I think just doesn't work.

A weaponized damaging net? Maybe. Are their any examples of that in past versions of the game that we might study for precedence for conversion?
May 30, 2017 4:38 pm
Hooks on a net would make it terribly difficult to keep untangled. Maybe the dice could be added to the attack roll, maybe just a 1.d4

Or if the Nets attack is successful then the next attack get with a weapon damage role gets the added dice

Could keep it simple and just allow that when superiority dice are added for net damage the user managed to twist or jerk the target in a way that was harmful. Also remember that HP is an abstract notion for the most part, one wherein real damage doesn't occur until the character is closer to zero. And if somehow you took someone out with a net, putting them to zero hp or worse, that could be described as particularly nasty... pullled them down hard, knocking them out, breaking their neck with a well timed and placed twist. Build the aesthetics of the damage around the situation the net was used in.

Probably the most salient argument for keeping it simple. Avoid attempting to simulate every move and twitch of reality.
