OOC:
Ox, that one was too tough to beat as response in TR8, but don't forget you can try to follow with an immediate Break Grapple attempt for BR8. Maybe a new set of numbers would give a chance to break the hold and still have Movement.
Your call of course; no pressure.
May 24, 2017 11:59 am
OOC:
This is a tough decision for me. I think I'm going to try break free and risk the disadvantage opportunity attack moving away.
Talius remains calm in this dire situation and heaves himself trying to break free.
OOC:
Have I noticed Qiu at all?
OOC:
post roll, now I get the nat 20 hahaha

Talius
BR8

Talius sees the water turn red with blood. In the rustle and thrashing, Talius does feel Qiu's shoulder and arm briefly, but then he feels Qiu pushed away to the depths and the bear is then all over Talius. The bear man fights to maintain the a strong hold around Talius's leg as Talius tries to kick out and swim free.

STR Athletics Comparison. Results...24. Wow. Close. Grapple condition ended!
OOC:
I guess that Natural 20 did not go to waste.

Talius makes a great effort to break the hold. He is able to push free and launch away. Seeing an opportunity, the bear man takes a quick swipe at Talius with his short sword.

Movement provokes Opportunity Attack as Reaction.

Result: Hit 21 Damage 8

Talius digs through the water with all of his strength. He swims upward to the surface, breaks through for air, and gets reoriented on direction. He sees the shoreline near the cabin, about 25 yards away.

Detail on distance:
Shoreline is 65' away.
Can convert to Difficult Terrain walking with feet on the ground at 15' from shoreline.
OOC:
Hey, Ox. After reading back over this, I realized that I wrote a past your description of Actions. You said break free and suggested you would accept Opportunity Attack, but now I see that you did not actually say anything about Movement towards the surface or otherwise. Sorry about that. I read into it a little too much by mistake.
I'm leaving this here for now, but will edit it and adjust if you say you want to take things in another direction that would have a different result and description. Sorry , bro. My bad.

Rolls

STR Athletics to oppose Break Grapple

STR Athletics to oppose Break Grapple Advantage

Bear short sword attack (Reaction, Opportunity Attack)

damage if successful

You were right in your assumption, I didn't communicate it well but I meant to gtfo I don't want to be gator chum. Because this is getting down to the wire, did he roll disadvantage for underwater strike? I hate to be "that guy" but I'm going to be that guy :)

OOC:
No. Definitely let's check. If there is ever a time to be "that guy" it's now.

I was looking at the Underwater Combat rules, it says attack "...has disadvantage on the attack roll unless the weapon is a dagger, javelin, shortsword, spear, or trident."
Bear's spare weapon that he is using now is a short sword. In the recent rounds, he dropped his axe and it sunk to the lake floor.

For future reference, Goat has been stabbing like a maniac with a long knife (aka dagger). He lost his spear long ago and also ditched his sickle.

Unfortunately for our heroes, The Hive are used to operating underwater and are equipped with some weapon options to do so effectively if they have to convert to subsurface melee. Bummer.

May 24, 2017 6:41 pm
OOC:
i guess I was just grasping at straws so to speak. I forgot about the short sword
May 24, 2017 9:23 pm
As the crazed Bat-Hannoc claws at him with pitiful results, Ivor thrusts twice, aiming for the man's vitals, followed by a sideways slash to the neck. This poor sonuvabitch was turned into a puppet by Fingol's witchcraft, and now Rutcrana's witchery is helping Ivor butcher him. The buzzing that has been in Ivor's ears since this fight began has reached a fever pitch, now accompanied by the blood in his veins roaring like ocean surf, and his rage threatens to overcome his battle focus.

Rolls

Trident Riposte vs. missed claw attack, damage, superiority die damage - (1d20+6, 1d6+6, 1d8)

1d20+6 : (16) + 6 = 22

1d6+6 : (5) + 6 = 11

1d8 : (1) = 1

Standard Action: Trident attack, damage - (1d20+6, 1d6+6)

1d20+6 : (5) + 6 = 11

1d6+6 : (2) + 6 = 8

Bonus Action: Hand-axe attack, damage - (1d20+6, 1d6+6)

Ivor
BR8

One of Ivor's trident stabs hits and pierces the Bat Hannoc's chest. The prongs break through some of the ribs. With the man shocked and in the throes of death, Ivor finishes the job in dramatic fashion. The blade of Ivor's axe splits open the staggering man's throat, peeling it wide open as the axe slides through and continues out in full swing.

The man stumbles backward, blood spewing everywhere from the severed neck artery. His clawed hands clutch at his own neck, but there is nothing he can do to save himself.

1 hit trident. 1 miss trident. Hit axe.

Kray (update before Actions)

Kray looks out on the lake and sees Talius break the surface!

Kray's knows that his friend is in duress; he is paddling with great effort and heaves in a big breath of air.

As Kray follows the ridge line, he sees Ivor stab and slash the unmasked Bat Hannoc on the deck. Blood is spraying everywhere as the man walks around dying under great spectacle.

The scantily clad black haired woman is looking on and smiling as she continues to set up strange wooden peak stands. She throws another flag on top of the latest build.
OOC:
Yo, Ez. I think Kray is just driving on to get to that optimal point of covering both deck and lake. Not sure if you are sending any combat or Attack actions or just focusing on Movement. Now with the ex-bird slain by Ivor, Kray may want to shift direction to make a bee line to the shore for support and hopeful reception of Talius. So just wanted to lay out this narrative update to give the full scene up to the 6 second.
May 25, 2017 12:55 am
Seeing Ivor split Bird's neck clean open, Kray turns his attention back toward the action in the lake just in time to see Talius break the surface. Without delay he heads straight for the shoreline, arrow notched and string pulled back.

I agree, supporting Talius' extraction from that black murk hell is the move. Seeing Talius coming toward the shore, after seeing Qiu fly out there and not come up yet, all the activity in the water... it's grim, looks like CB is dead, and I'm hoping we can at least get Talius out. I'd like to to think I can at get to normal range with the bow for attacks on the space behind where Talius is coming from. I'll get as close as I can, say 5' from the water's edge if possible.

Covering fire with a Ready shot. Switching to CP+2, just in case. Hoping Talius can swim like hell. Dash action in the water possible?

EDIT: Overwatch roll.
EDIT 2
EDIT 3: Using Commitment to Contract to re-roll that first damage roll (the non-crit 1): Crit roll Damage. Looks like 16 total damage if someone comes up behind Talius.

Kray
BR8

Course change understood. This positioning tactic will relinquish cover-fire option and sight on the deck in exchange for an earlier realization of normal range for longbow use towards the lake. Normal range to lake targets effective this round (8) instead of previous trajectory of next round (9).

Kray turns to his right and heads straight down hill towards the water's edge, approaching the lower supports of the deck along the way.
OOC:
Help me out on this Hold Action though. Trying to figure out the mechanics. Not giving anything away I doubt, when I say that on Top Round 9 SOME sort of bad guy is likely to attack Talius in the water. The idea I know is that Kray wants to light them up as soon as he sees them; he's pretty much expecting it. Sounds reasonable.
So this is round 8, say something pops up in round 9. Does that mean Kray gets the "Held" shot right away, before the opponents Action? And then if so, does Kray also get another Action during norm Bottom of Round 9?
I'm thinking it over myself. May not be able to study a book during the day. So I wanted to open it up to you, Ez, and even the rest of the crowd if anyone wants to weigh in. These are high stakes moments, so I want to have all ideas scrutinized so nothing can later be looked back on as a costly mistake or misinterpretation on my part.

OOC:
you can get extremely picky with the timing and resolution of the reaction trigger, mainly if the trigger you are waiting for is if the enemy attacks, at the end of their attack, once their triggering action is resolved the reaction can take place. Same as if someone sets a trigger, that if the enemy moves, I will attack - once the enemy finishes his movement, the reaction can take place.

Oh, and if the held action is not used before their turn the action is lost.

So yes, he would get a shot at TR and on his Turn BR if the triggering conditions are met.

Top of Round 9 (TR9)
OOC:
CB, sincere apologies, bro. No way to sugar coat this. I think it's Qiu's last moments. First Death Save should have been BR8,
but I'm going to press on. Bluntly, it might not matter soon. Qiu has Unconcious Condition. All Attacks against him will be coming at Advantage. He also auto fails STR and DEX saves. He drops his shield. Also cannot actively adjust AC with Defensive Setting on Combat Proficiency. So AC must be lowered accordingly.
This time each hit, instead of damage, will be a Death Save/Death Mark.
Goat
TR9

2 Stabs to Qiu.
Then release Qiu from Grapple.
Make movement subsurface towards Talius.

Results...
Attack 1: Hit on 26
Attack 2: Hit on 19

Alligators 1 & 2
TR9

1 Bite each.
If Hit, level Grapple and Restrained Condition with automatic fail on resist Grapple because of opponent unresponsiveness.
If Grappled/Restrained, make swim Movement and barrel roll with victim.

Results reported.

Underwater, it is a blood bath. Qiu's chest is pierced and abdomen is split open by the ex-goat's tearing knife thrusts. Alligators clamp onto Qiu's body, one on his arm and one whose jaws are stopped by the chain armor on his torso. As the alligators pull and roll, both trying to deny the spoils from the other, Qiu's arm is torn off.

The goat swims with ease through the bloody waters, arms outstretched towards Talius.

How the hell is Qiu supposed to play his lyre now with just one arm?

Edit: rolled them all just for fun. Hahah the fates have spoken.

Alligator 3

Emerge briefly to bite at Talius.
Results displayed. DC 12 Grapple escape if successful hit.
OOC:
Ruling that just as this Alligator Attack happens, Kray's arrow can loose against the Alligator. We can debate I guess about whether it will be a Reaction in Round 8 or Round 9, but I think it is pretty much the same that the shot goes off.
Bear

Remains subsurface. Movement Swim to position behind Talius though slightly underwater.

Bottom of Round 9 (BR9) Open
OOC:
Ivor, Talius, and Kray are up. Send it.
OOC:
I'm saying now that Kray gets the preloaded BR8 arrow launch, and then can still run Actions as he wants for BR9. Not sure if that is exactly right or not, but let's roll with it. Would rather ere on the side of more Attacks than mistakenly denying one.
