Coming up behind Ygne and Frick, Maybe, but for tonight we also need some rest. Elspa and the big fellow were in a cave farther down the beach so they should be ok. We'll go in the morning to find them. Frick, how's your side ?

CancerMan says:
Elspa slips her axe into her belt loop now that her rage has subsided. She reaches down and picks up the scroll, feeling the eldritch-infused skin with her thumb. "This is my pack," she says, sweeping her hand to include Rygnar and Jarveena. "Whatever freedom or reward I earn for myself extends to them as well."
The flesh puppet sweeps its hand in mimicry of your own action.

"Whatever freedom or reward you earn, you earn for your pack as well."

Although, coming from that voice, it almost sounds like a threat as much as a promise. At the end of its sentence, the zombie collapses into the pebble beach with a crunch, the starlight in its eyes extinguished.

Rygnar turns to Elspa "Should we make for the cave or see what's left of the village?"

FRICK, MOSS, and YGNE
OOC:
I'm assuming everyone in the village is on board with going behind the waterfall. If not, let me know and I'll retcon.
The village heads for the waterfall, ascending a stone stair in single-file. It is a grim procession of shocked and grief-stricken people.

The water sprays over you as you pass behind the falls, cleaning some of the blood and gore of the battle from you. The stairs lead into a wide-mouthed cave that is braced with strong timbers. She Who Has Been Beyond the Reef directs the lighting of torches within, filling the cold, damp space with warmth and light. The cave is more than large enough to fit the whole population, though privacy and personal space is minimal. A stone stair ascends the rear wall of the cave to a dark opening, which nobody approaches.

A few elders begin a song, and it spreads through the beleaguered community. As the song gathers strength, so do the people. It sets the tempo to which the community works.

"funga alafia, ashay ashay..."

Roughly a quarter of the more able-bodied villagers draw spears and shields from racks from one wall, another quarter collect hunting bows and hip-slung quivers. They hasten to set up barricades and barriers to slow any invading monsters while singing the song.

"Funga Alafia, Ashay Ashay."

Others collect water from the river and distribute mess kits. Even the children are put to work, taking care of younger children, stripping palm leaves into bandages, and a variety of other simple tasks that are both useful and keep their minds off of their grief. The whole village moves as one.

"Funga Alafia, Ashay Ashay!"

At last, a beacon is lit at the mouth of the cave that shines through the waterfall, a signal to any survivors to rally at the cave and a taunt to any invaders to dare try to get the better of them a second time.

She Who Has Been Beyond the Reef eventually seeks out Frick, Moss, and Ygne. Her white hair is a complete mess, still spattered with blood.

"Our shelter and our grief, we share with you. Moss the Healer; Ygne the Wicked, Killer of Lizards and Saver of Kings; Frick, Drinker of Booze and Killer of Shit that Needs Killing: you gambled your lives today when you could have run. You lost one of yours, and we grieve for Jarveena the Maimed as we do for our own. Truly, she was a great warrior. I have never seen a Lionjay downed with a single arrow."

"It is my hope that Elspa, First Hunter of the Grey Pack and Iron Wolf of the Sea Witch and her serving man are safely camped away from the violence."

"To day thank you, I would like to give you the highest honour given to Fools Who Give Copper. If you accept, you become an honorary Islander."

She offers to you copper pendant that cradles a single pearl in the center, painted black.

"Anyone who bears these will be recognized as a friend of the Island by all of our people. And after you wear it for awhile, you will be able to understand and speak our language and share in our songs."
OOC:
Island Friendship Pendant: (Wonderous item: requires attunement) While attuned the bearer gains the Islander's language as a language proficiency. In addition, when you hear a group of islanders sing a magical song, you may share the benefits of this song as well.
You may also grab any simple weapon. Naatkinson, it is plausible that Frick's glaive was lost in the river when you fell, but I'll leave it up to you to decide if you were able to find it before leaving the ravine.

"We make for the cave," says Elspa, kneeling next to Jarveena. "She's hurt and needs care. The others know where we are."
May 18, 2017 2:02 am
With a nod, Rygnar scoops Jarveena up with a surprising delicacy. "What of the scroll? I do not trust that old woman or her cave for it to be read there."
May 18, 2017 2:26 am
Elspa considers Rygnar's words while looking at the scroll in her hand. "We'll need it if we want to make the dead stay dead," she says. "What should we do with it if not inside the cave?"
May 18, 2017 2:49 am
"It's a map, right? Read it on our way there then keep it hidden when inside and away from the people of this island." Rygnar stands, ready to move on Elspa's go.
May 18, 2017 2:57 am
Elspa tugs on the sinew to unfurl the scroll and inspect its contents while they walk.
May 18, 2017 3:07 am
Jarveena regains consciousness in Rygnar's arms. "Whu..whuss goin' on?" she asks, disoriented. "I'm alrigh'...I c'n walk."
May 18, 2017 3:20 am
"Of course." Rygnar gently places Jarveena on her feet. He keeps his arm close by and a watchful eye to make sure he can catch her in the event that her legs give out. He makes no other sounds as he concentrates on making sure she doesn't fall.
May 18, 2017 3:31 am
"Thanks, Rygnar." Jarveena says, uncharacteristically. "The others? We was in the village...attacked by griffons...people dyin' an' th' dead risin'..." And then she remembers the last moments in the ravine and she nearly faints again but Rygnar catches her. "They got me. I shoulda died in th' ravine. How'm I here?"
May 18, 2017 3:58 am
"Easy, take it slow." Rygnar says as he catches her "Elspa and me were given a reward, I chose you to be here so I could make sure you were safe."
May 18, 2017 4:32 am
"You's on the beach, if you didn't notice," Elspa says without taking her eyes off the scroll. Her tone is matter-of-fact, with little emotion for the bloodbath and carnage that lies about them. "What's left of the village is above us. We're heading back to our cave for the night."
May 18, 2017 5:46 am
"Aye..." Jarveena mumbles, still too shaken by her encounter with the spirit world to say much else.
May 18, 2017 12:38 pm
Ygne stumbles a moment, and takes a pendant from She Who Has Been Beyond the Reef. "Was nothin'," She mutters. Afterward, she makes her way to an empty space against the cave wall before she sets herself down and almost promptly falls asleep.

ELSPA, JARVEENA, and RYGNAR
Elspa unfurls the map. Those that saw it recognize the contour of the island from the map that Frick found in the journal back on Troglodyte Island.

This map has more much more detail of the terrain and features of the island's interior. A central plateau containing a large lake is is circled in dried blood. At the center of that lake is a small island, just as Ulupoka described.
OOC:
I will post the image of the map soon; I seem to have misplaced that graphic at the moment. Probably on a different computer.
May 18, 2017 5:15 pm
"I'm not terrible, just a flesh wound," Frick says with forced nonchalance.

As they are presented with the amulets Frick is unusually solemn, "Thank you," he says with a nod before he slips it around his neck.

Cursing as he realizes that he left his glaive behind, Frick moves up and grabs a quarterstaff, using it as a walking stick for the moment.
OOC:
Once again, I'd like to apologize for my slow posts of late. I am truly trying to keep up, but most of my posting time was lost!
May 18, 2017 8:21 pm
Taking the offered amulet with no comments, Moss takes the time to attune himself to it. He then proceeds to asks around if someone has some herbs and bandages he could use to add a few uses to his healing kits. Finally he will also find a spot to rest.
