Ygne winks and clicks her tongue at Frick, before walking - now with a happy bounce in her step - back toward the group. "So," Ygne starts, mostly addressing Elspa, "How are we improving our lot in life, today?"
May 27, 2017 6:11 pm
"We gonna check out some of the other islands around here?" Frick asks, shooting Rygnar a brief glare as he follows Ygne to the rest of the group.

THE SEVENTH and SHE WHO HAS BEEN BEYOND THE REEF
"What the fuck are they doing?" She Who Has Been Beyond the Reef asks The Seventh.

"Their blood runs hot. They are warriors, through and through. Let them trade blows; they will cool down."

Khiva breathes a sigh of relief. The safety of their village is now her responsibility, and without the Spirit Mother, she's pretty confident that they six of them would be able to take her and The Seventh. But, didn't they just risk their lives to save the village?

"I know." she says softly. "They are not murders."

"No, Khiva, make no mistake. They are definitely murders."

Khiva looks up to the Seventh and sees him smiling as he looks on at the five.

MOSS
Auntie curls back her lips in a hideous smile.

"There are many ways of knowing things, Moss the Healer. Not all seeing is done with your eyes and not all hearing is done with your ears." She points to the middle of her forehead.

"Are you intrigued?"

Elspa, satisfied perhaps that folk have done what they needed done and said what they needed said, jerks her head towards the beach. "Rygnar and me got something. Come on."

The barbarian turns and heads for the stairs, to descend to the water and strand.

Rygnar places a hand on Elspa's shoulder, impeding her decent "You two need to eat first." he glances over to Jarveena when he says this "I will not let you leave until then."
May 27, 2017 10:41 pm
Elspa replies, deadpan. "Can eat as we talk."

"Let's get moving. Any chance we can head to where I fell, I want my glaive back," Frick says as he begins walking.

MOSS
Moss finds himself a place to sit.Again I am pretty sure you alrealdy know the answer. To me knowledge has always been power, but since I met you, I feel there is more I do not understand...yet. I'll be clear, I want to you to show me how to access that hidden knowledge, that power you seem to have. Can you do it ?

"I don't care how you eat, as long as it is done."

MOSS
The old woman's voice changes. Gone is any hint of amusement from her voice, entirely replaced with dark foreboding. The shadows in the room seem to come alive in the corners of your eyes, disobeying your torch and dancing on their own as if alive.

"Yes, Auntie Zilla does have power."

She reaches her hand out, palm up, her eyes locking with yours. Auntie's voice speaks inside your head.

A deal: Auntie will give you access to the power you seek. Although the strength of your mind and willpower ultimately determines how deeply you can pursue its limitations, I suspect you will go far. The price: if you die before you leave this island, your soul belongs to Auntie. Forever. In order to complete this deal you need only give me a lock of your hair.
May 28, 2017 4:26 am
Without blinking, Moss takes his dagger and swiftly cuts a lock of hair, putting it in Zilla's hand. If I can't leave this dammed Island, I don't see the point in staying alive anyway. Better give my soul to you than rise as a soulless corpse. I agree to the terms. Now what ?

She clutches the lock hair and caresses it fondly. After a moment, you notice a book casually rises from the shadows behind Auntie Zilla and floats toward you. An ancient, leather bound tome with gold lettering in High Atlantean that reads 'Vincit qui se vincit':

He Who Conquers Himself Conquers All.

"Welcome to the Order of the Unbroken Spine, my dear Moss."

Moss takes the book, flipping through the pages and scanning its content, and what is this order of the Unbroken Spine ? I have never heard of it...

"Both the book and the Order that made it are from your fallen world, from the island of Atlantis before the cataclysm. The Unbroken Spine were an order of sages that dedicated themselves to the study of the human mind, such as it is. They were particularly zealous about writing everything down. Auntie has read the book cover to cover, but it is not compatible with Auntie's power. Best to give it to somebody who can do some good with it.

As Moss flips through the pages, you are astonished to see that it consists entirely of uniformly-spaced grids letters arranged in 13 rows and 13 columns. A moment longer and you swear the letters moved, nearly lept from the page.

"Go on child, do not hesitate."

In a moment the book itself seems to be in control. The pages whip back and forth, and brightly-glowing letters leap from the pages into the air as if assembling some kind of code. The string of letters assemble into a long ribbon that swirls around you, surrounding you. You catch glimpses of words that you recognize, but the words seem to reorder themselves, jumping from one section of the strand to another when they overlap.

Soon you are encased in a cocoon of glowing letters, so bright that you can barely keep your eyes open. From above your head, the beginning of the strand emerges and floats down to your forehead and begins entering your mind. It feeds through slowly at first, but then accelerates far more than you can handle. The entire strand winds itself up into your head, and the room suddenly goes dark again.

As you come back to your senses, you look at your down at your arms and see they are covered in ink tattoos. You tear open your shirt and discover that your chest is likewise covered. Everywhere on your body below your face is now transcribed with the text from this ancient codex, now decoded into High Atlantean on your skin.

Moss gains a level in the Mystic class.

Elspa continues for the stairs to descend to the beach.
May 28, 2017 9:06 pm
Frick follows Elspa, still using his staff as a walking stick to cover the bit of a limp he still has.
May 28, 2017 10:09 pm
Jarveena lags behind, as usual, watching Frick ahead of her. She doesn't want to go back to the ravine. The memory of what was revealed to her behind the Ancestors' masks sends an involuntary shudder up her spine.

Rygnar slows his pace to match Jarveena's, shadowing behind her, a thought looms on his expression but he doesn't speak it.

Elspa fishes a bit of dry ration from her pouch and tears off a chunk with her teeth. She makes her way to the crab-covered litter of corpses.

"Okay, so we was told how we can stop what we kill from needing to be killed again," says the barbarian in-between chews. "We got this map that shows the way to an island in an island, and there we smash a black pearl. A god whose name I won't say now, says it's the thing that closes the way to the Land of the Dead, and it keeps our souls on this island. We break this thing, we free ourselves and the dead."
