With a nod, Elspa looks to the others standing nearby. "Now, who's all in?"

"I'm in. Someone's gotta steer while you an' Rygnar row, righ'?"
Jun 1, 2017 5:05 pm
"Sure, ain't much else to do. And I think Ygne will be in once she cools down a bit,"
Jun 1, 2017 7:17 pm
With a small smile, Might as well stay with you, who else is gonna keep you alive if I'm not there.

"Oh. Yeah. Jarveena's fine." Ygne says, brushing the comment aside. "So, I wanted to know: When can we attack the pirates back? Think that's a possibility?" Ygne plants her fists into her hips and cocks her head to the side, looking Khiva square in the eye. "My friends are wantin' to sail off, but I think we should get some revenge first."

Hearing his name mentioned, Rygnar stands from the pile of corpses and tosses the head he has detached from one of the bodies aside. His voice overwhelmed with anger "Then let's stop wasting time talking and get done with it." He ignores everyone and makes his way to the boats, then takes a seat next to one of them.

Jarveena hands the map and journal back. "Ye wanna explain t' Rygnar we gotta provision first? Meaning we gotta deal wi' 'em villagers again like it or not. An' Frick's wantin' his glaive back."

YGNE
She Who Has Been Beyond the Reef responds to your proposal:

"I admire your ferocity, Killer of Lizards, Saver of Kings. It is true that the Pirates are a growing problem that our people cannot ignore. Maybe you have noticed that Panitube has few warriors? They are sequestered to the northern-most village of Tanaroa where they man The Wall against constant undead attacks from the jungle. We don't have the strength to both fight the Pirates and defend The Wall. Their stronghold is formidable, and they are in league with other powers on this island, perhaps Ulupoka himself!"

The Seventh approaches, looking cross as always.

"What is this about 'sailing away?' Was it not made clear that you cannot leave this island? Are you so eager to throw your lives away and enter the service of Ulupoka, God of Demons? It would be a shame to waste your lives so recklessly."

Maybe we should split up to save some time, Jarveena, Eslpa and Rygnar could secure some food while I go search with Frick for his glaive. I'm pretty sure it won't be long so we could rejoin in the village.
Jun 2, 2017 5:13 pm
"Why do we need food from the villagers?" asks Elspa.
Jun 2, 2017 5:15 pm
"We doan, I s'pose, if one o' ye c'n hunt or fish.. But we'll be needin' gear: rope an' torches an' such...an' arrows."

"Yeah," says Elspa, pursing her lips and pointing her thumb over her shoulder to her pack. "Torches, rope, stuff to fish with. Arrows, these fellas in the sand had a bunch of 'em, I think." Unfortunately, the barbarian could not determine during the battle and the night whether the pirates used arrows or crossbow bolts. "They might have other stuff, too. Didn't get a chance to ask."

She calls out to the large man on the boat. "Rygnar! Let's see what these boys had!" Elspa goes over to the all-dead zombie pirates to rummage through for anything useful. What she considers 'useful,' of course, is always a matter of perspective.

For the first time ever, Rygnar doesn't respond; he remains seated, staring thoughtlessly at nothing.
OOC:
Rygnar is next to the boat, not on it.

The boats look like they are in great condition. They are made from quality hardwood and banded with black cast iron. Why somebody would waste such precious metal on a row boat might baffle a character who knows of such things, but it is clear these boats could survive crashing into the rocks better than most ships of your world. Heavy as hell, though, around 600 lbs.

The boats are otherwise empty, but searching the bodies of the pirates reveal some interesting finds. Among the usual junk (various low-quality bronze weapons and gore stained clothes with wide sword and axe slashes in them), a character might find it surprising the diversity of styles of weaponry and dress among the Pirates, some of which you recognize but many you don't.

Two of the pirates didn't carry blades, but quarterstaves tipped with ornate symbols cast in silver. They look religious in nature, but what foreign god or religion they symbolize is unknown to you. In their heavy black coats you find interesting components. One possessed a crystal globe with Dwarven runes, the other had three wax candles: One is blue and cylindrical with birds carved in the side; another is a black cube; and the third is red and carved in the shape of a door. The later man also has a book written in Low Atlantean titled "The Miracles of Saint Cuthbert of the Cudgel."

You also find a two complete climbing kits*, 6 torches, and 79 gold pieces (1d12 per man).

"Which island is Tanaroa?" Ygne asks, confused. "And they might serve this God? If he's so mean, why would anyone work for him?" Ygne feels awfully clever.

She flashes the Seventh a grin as he approaches and says, "Not leave leave. Just sail about to other parts of the island. We have a Killer of Shit That Needs Killing who gets upset when he isn't doing his job, and I have not yet found what I need." Ygne scratches at the back of her scalp, "But.. we do need to leave eventually. I can't be on this island forever. You saying there's no way to do that? Ever?"

She Who Has Been Beyond the Reef replies:

"Tanaroa is on the mainland. And yes you can leave! I've done it! I earned this name, didn't I? But most people cannot turn into a dolphin as I can, and even then it was dangerous."

"The problem started ten years ago when the foreigners built the colony of Farshore, not far from here. They were very wealthy traders and had much copper to give."

"It turned out that the foreigners were interested in doing more than just trading. Behind our backs, they sent expeditions into the heart of the island to steal its worthless gold treasures, except they awoke a sleeping beast in the sea, a Kraken of great size. They fought with it and with their sorceries they killed the beast, but did not cut off its head."

"That night the Kraken and many of the Farshore mages that were slain rose under Ulupoka's power. Now, they patrol the coast day and night, searching for any ship that tries to go beyond the reefs. Luckily for us, it stays away from our villages because Ulupoka fears that our Spirit Mothers could snare it away from him."

"To punish the fucking foreigners of Farshore, our seven greatest warriors travelled to their island and killed every adult. We saved the children, like Jehenna, and took them in as our own and tried to teach them the ways of our people."

Ygne finds her concentration waning, but she fights to keep her focus on Khiva's explanation.

By the end of it, she tries to make some sense of a few things, "So the water wasn't bad before, but then the merchants ruined it all, and now the water's bad. But, I'm not really trapped; it's just dangerous." Ygne seems deep in thought, and just when someone might ask if she were alright, she speaks up again to say, "So this Krag-.. um.. Krak-.. Kraken?" She looks for affirmation before continuing, "So, this Kraken can only be in one place at a time, yeah? I could leave if it was lured to one side and we sailed off on the other, right?"

"Say," she starts, addressing the Seventh as though remembering a detail, "What happened to Jehenna, by the by? She might be a bit cross with me."
Jun 3, 2017 4:59 pm
Elspa takes one of the climbing kits and the gold coins. She tests the balance of a quarterstaff, then tries to see if she can baseball-bat the crystal globe.
