As you look for affirmation, Khiva shows you her tattoo of the Kraken on her back, which she earned by sneaking past it in years long past.
[ +- ] Kraken Tattoo
"It is not just the Kraken that patrols the shores. The Kraken has killed many other great beasts that now the whole sea around the island is full with monstrosities. We don't even fish in the oceans dive for pearls on the reef anymore, it is too dangerous. Worst of all, the dead Farshore wizards now sit atop mountains, watching for ships coming and going, and calling down great storms to sink them. There really is no way to leave this island now, and perhaps forever."

The Seventh also answers your query:

"Our duel was to the death, and I won. Without the spirit mother to keep her spirit in the village, I decapitated her rather than let her be taken by Ulupoka. Her spirit now wanders the island, lost forever."

CancerMan says:
She tests the balance of a quarterstaff, then tries to see if she can baseball-bat the crystal globe.
As the well-balanced staff connects with the sphere, it shatters into a thousands little pieces that now litter the pebble beach, glinting in the sun like broken glass.
Jun 3, 2017 5:09 pm
Elspa inspects the staff to see if it, too, has cracked or shattered in any way.

The staff, made of a sturdy hardwood, is undamaged.

Frick nods to Moss, "Lead the way, I was kinda out of it when I fell," he says, indicating that he should lead him to the place where his glaive fell.

FRICK and MOSS
OOC:
If Moss has other things to do, then we can retcon this post.
When you get to the top of the stairs, the survey team preparing to rebuild the watchtowers greets the two of you respectfully. At the ravine, another group is running guide ropes down to fetch the severed bridge. They offer you a rope down, and ask if you could tie it to the bridges so they can reel it up.
OOC:
Go ahead and make a perception check, DC 20 when Frick is ready.

A staff may come in handy, so Elspa adds it to the 'useful' pile. She picks up the candles and gives them a sniff for any scent, and decides having something to light at night is worth porting them.

"Guess she can't be cross with me, then. That's good."

Ygne's expression sours. She crosses her arms and ponders some more. "So," she says, after a moment, "You mentioned another Spirit Mother would be arriving? How? And where's she arriving from?" Ygne hold up two fingers, indicating a second question, "And.. well, is there any way offa this island, short of killin' that demon god? Cause I really do need to leave, sometime."

After a moment, possibly during any reply, she would hold up three fingers and add, "And I saw you turn into a big cat last night!" She says it almost accusatorily, as though Ygne caught her and spoiled a secret, even if Khiva never hid anything. "How do you do that?"

FRICK AND MOSS
Just point to me which part you want me to tie and I'll do it as soon as we find his weapon.
Moss then goes down with Frick to find his weapon.

In response to the 'big cat' query, The Seventh responds:

"The Gods blessed Khiva with Wild Shaping so that the rest of the village can get a break from her endless talking!"

It is the first time you have seen anything resembling a smile on The Seventh's face, but his humanity shines through in that brief instance.

"Very funny. And I suppose the Gods blessed you with so many muscles so you could stand around and do nothing?"

The Seventh puffs out his chest, feigning being wounded. "I am being vigilant, She Who Has Been Beyond the Reef."

Khiva continues about the Spirit Mothers: "We have sent messengers to Usi, a village on the mainland where the Spirit Mothers learn how to wrest the dead from Ulupoka. They will journey to us as soon as they can, returning on the ferry. They will also send word to the other villages to heighten their defenses, especially in light of how the Pirates have their Thunder Cannon working again."

"And yes, it is mostly impossible to leave the island. If you kill enough of the Zombie Wizards and the Zombie Kraken, it might work, but I don't think anyone can do that. And you would still need a ship of course, or turn into a dolphin like me. Even so, I wouldn't try it now. Too many bloody zombie Sharks and zombie Giant Seahorses choking the seas."

Ygne gets an excited look on her face as the two joke with one another. She tries to think of something comedic to say, to add to it, but ends up missing the moment. After the explanation, she looks thoughtful for a bit longer, "Another question! If, say, my companions and I were able to get off of this island, and we left. What would happen to us if we died, far away? Would we still be under this God's control, or would we stay dead?"

"And... this demon god is pretty bad, yeah? Can we kill him, so that his sea critters and mountain wizards go back to being dead?"

"Our scriptures teach us that Ulupoka holds no sway beyond the reef. And killing him? It took all of the gods combined to stop him, and when they did they still could not kill him, only imprison him. The only one who can kill him is himself, which is why the lands of the dead are blocked here. Even death is no escape for Ulupoka now."

"You know, when I was beyond the reef, I was so scared of dying. I thought 'if I die, I will be the only person from my island to ever go to the Lands of the Dead. I will be lonesome for eternity!' I'd rather be here and become an Ancestor and watch over my people for all time. See the children grow, smell the coconut harvest, kill our enemies, for all time. So, I returned."

"Tell me, Killer of Lizards and Saver of Kings, what would have happen to you if you had died beyond the reef? I heard stories of idyllic meadows and grand feast halls everlasting."
OOC:
PS - don't feel beholden to preserve Primeval Thule cannon if you answer this question, MoMo.

After passing some time looking for Fricks Glaive with no success, Moss goes to tie the rope to the bridge so the natives can start bringing it back up. Then before going up, he's going to search one last time.
OOC:
If you don't want us to retry, just strike my last line.

Naatkinson: right you are. I deleted my wrong post and your correction post to streamline the game thread.

And deadpool_qc, a second roll is not warranted at this point, but I'll give you something for your high roll. I have another plan for the missing glaive. Depending on what you guys do, it might reappear at some point :) In the meantime the quaterstaves on the beach with the silver icons each counted as a silvered quaterstaff.
On his way out of the ravine, Moss spots something shining in the water. He pulls out the remnants of one of the Ancestor's copper coin mail vests. There are 150 copper pieces in the vest.

CancerMan says:
She picks up the candles and gives them a sniff for any scent.
Elspa's keen sense of smell detects odours that most would never have noticed:

► The bird motif candle smells of sea breezes with subtle undertones of ink and parchment.
► The black cubical candle smells like a blacksmith's forge.
► The red door-shaped candle smells of grease, like that used on The Sea Witch to keep the helm turning smoothly.

Cursing his luck, Frick makes his way back to the others, taking one of the shiny quarterstaves after testing its balance and strength. If nothing else, it would be worth more cash when they escape this place.

Once he's united with the others, he looks around, "Ygne's still not back? Huh, must've found something fun to do," he says with a shrug, knowing she'd come back.
Jun 4, 2017 11:02 pm
"Feh.." Ygne mutters about what Khiva had heard, "They'd still find a way to ruin it; takin' claim o'er more of the meadow an' food for themselves and less for others." She shrugs, "Don't seem like an afterlife I want a place in."

For a moment it may seem that Ygne was ready to leave it at that. Her eyes descend to the ground, and her lip tightens up a bit. Soon she speaks again, as though remembering something, "There was a place I used to hear about. Um.. they called it The Faraway." Ygne puts a hand through her hair, a bit anxiously. She diverts her eyes as she speaks, almost as if from embarrassment. "It isn't for everyone that dies. Ya gotta be good. And.. and ya gotta have had it rough. It isn't for no pampered princes. They aren't tested at all." Ygne glances up at the both of them for a brief instant before looking back to the side, "And, well... I'd heard that it's a big place. Like a city, but... but there aren't other people. Only the good ones, who had it rough. But everything is still there. All the good food, and the soft beds." Ygne rubs at her nose and says, "Kind of like a second life, to make up for the first one."

"The Faraway." Khiva repeats the words softly, with reverence.

"Ygne The Wicked and The Wise, Saver of Kings, Killer of Lizards: I do honestly hope you one day get to The Faraway. Who knows? Maybe you and your friends are just wicked and wise enough to kill the monsters that hold you here."

The Seventh gives Khiva a disapproving sidelong glance, but says nothing.
Jun 5, 2017 11:44 am
Ygne, still glancing to the side, scratches at her scalp awkwardly as Khiva repeats those words.

"Well," she says, after a moment, completely missing The Seventh's disapproving glance, "To get there, I'd have to die first, and that isn't th' plan." Ygne crosses her arms and looks somewhat confident, "And I know I'm wicked enough! I just need to whip these others into shape a bit, and maybe I can get them offa this island, too." She sighs, as though bearing many burdens.

"Thanks for the words, Khiva. Seven." Ygne, feeling a bit better, will return to the beach should there be nothing left to discuss.

The two Panituban leaders bid Ygne farewell - Khiva with a hug, and The Seventh with a grunt - and watch her return to the beach.
OOC:
I'm looking forward to seeing you guys hash this out :) I'll probably stay in the background until you need me.
