Listening to Cemos, Bildaweer recalls the deep gnomes use of spell gems. Cemos . . . I had a thought. Looking at the menhir, it didn't dawn on me because the gem sockets are different than what I am used to, but the deep gnomes use the spell gems primarily for defense with the rarest stones containing the more advanced spells. Mayhap that the menhir is used for such purposes, but that's speculation. Again, the gems there appear to be crafted in different shapes than what I am used to seeing.

Hmm, so perhaps tomorrow we can go searching for those special gems? Do you think there's some writing anywhere, like in that book of yours, that could tell us how that menhir exactly works? Than we can go and finish off those statues and make everything safer over there?
Or maybe another day and we can look into those oozes first? I think those are more threatening at the moment.
We have a few more days, and more time to figure things out...

OOC:
As a note on timing, you've agreed to stay on in Blingdenstone for 10-20 days so Enzo can make Cemos some fancy new armor.
It's been almost 2 full days since you made the agreement. Once you have your rest done "tonight", it will be the third day and Cemos will need to go check in with the smith to test some armor pieces for fitting. Part of the discussion that Cemos and Enzo had gone through was a way to make the armor impervious to acid damage. You may want to talk with him about that before setting out for the oozes. I figure that was recently enough in character's memory that would consider it (even if it was 4.5 months ago real time).
Feb 14, 2018 12:40 pm
aye that was the agreement, well then it looks like we have some choices to make. Thank you again specter for your wisdom. Cemos turns to the group to discuss what's happening next.
OOC:
Ok I say we head out from here and go back to the tavern, ready up and first thing in the morning we swing by the smithy to get some measurements and then back to the statues. I'll need to look at my spells but i think I have something that might work. Would a protection from good and evil work?
Feb 14, 2018 1:05 pm
OOC:
protection from evil and good would maybe help with stopping an entity from being posessed. To get the entity back to their plane, though, you'll need higher level divine magic. You'd need to find a divine caster type and see if they have any ability to offer assistance.

OOC:
Have I made heads or tails of the incantations in the book yet?
Feb 14, 2018 2:51 pm
Yes! By the next morning, you manage to suss out that the four incantations you didn't know immediately are:

Conjure Minor Elementals
Fabricate
Investiture of Stone
Move Earth

OOC:
assuming we just fast forward to the morning in the tavern cemos would have woken up before the other to do his morning prayers and got some food for everyone set as they begin to wake up for the day
Cemos is sitting in the tavern hall, eyes closed and arms crossed as if to contemplate the day that is to come. As the bar-keep sets up and prepares the food he ordered.

thank you again for preparing our meal this early. We have a long day ahead of us and i want to be sure that we are all full before we set out. That actually reminds me... Cemos says as he looks towards the bar-keep way
what is the fastest way to get to enzo's smithy from here? I need to swing by for some measurements.
OOC:
I was just gonna give her 5 gold for the meal and tip.
I don't remember our last meal costing that much.
Feb 15, 2018 3:04 pm
Dustin will seek out an enchanter who may be able to enchant his hand crossbow and make it magical.
He will also seek out a place to perhaps learn rituals of the arcane.

Otherwise he will stick close with the group and help out in anyway that he can.
Feb 15, 2018 3:23 pm
OOC:
You meal last time was on the house, if I remember correctly. Either way, 5 gold more than pays for very NICE food for all of you.
Not a problem at all! You lot are good by me and pay well too! the barkeep says as the stacks of food are set out. At your inquiry about Enzo, she smiles and gives you simple directions to get there. It's only about a five minute walk, which would explain the smithy's constant evening presence at the Mug.

Dustin, as you come down and ask about the enchanter, the barkeep gets quiet in thought before addressing you and anyone else that's there. Well, we don't have a proper enchanter like you'd expect. Most all energy has gone towards savin' gnomes and reclaiming the home. However, if you head over to the Speaking Stones, you could probably talk with Gurnik Tapfinger. He's a priest over there and at one point he was able to help with that kind of magic.

Bildaweer enjoys his meal with his comrades. Listening to the barkeep, his ears perk up and asks Dustin, may I accompany you? I would very much like to have a look around at the Speaking Stones.
OOC:
Going back to the book, Heart was asking me earlier if there was anything mentioned in there about the gemstones and menhir. I take it that there wasn't and it was just a spellbook.
Feb 19, 2018 12:36 pm
it sounds like the speaking stones would only be a slight detour on our way back to the catacombs. We can all head there after we see enzo. Cemos says with a mouth full of food. let's finish up here and head out.
Cemos slurps down the rest of his meal and gets ready to head out.
Feb 19, 2018 12:37 pm
OOC:
when I get to enzo's id like to talk to him about taking an exta ingot or 2 to make a proper shield.
Feb 19, 2018 2:37 pm
Sure thing Mentor, always glad to have you along. Right now I would rather not be alone anyway. Dustin gives a warm nod to Bildaweer.
Feb 20, 2018 1:59 pm
You all head out and go to Enzo's for the brief stop in. When you arrive, the stooped deep gnome is already busy at work, highlighted by the orange glow of his furnace as he pulls a chunk of glowing metal out and moving it to an anvil where he can pound away at it. After a moment he looks up and smiles broadly.

Welcome welcome adventurers! Has it been so many days already? My oh my. Well, master dwarf, I have a few pieces set for you to try. Namely the breast plate and pauldrons. Come, let's see how they fit! he says as he motions for you to strip out of your existing armor.

After about 20 minutes, the fit and such is checked and the little gnome has made it clear why he is a master armorsmith. Everything seems to fit perfectly and doesn't limit range of motion whatsoever.

I also have a small surprise for you. I used some of the extra ingots to experiment, as we had agreed, on a way to resist the vile acids of the ooze. Thanks to how many of those damned things are around, I've had plenty of test acid to use and came up with a way to keep it from corroding. It's all in the quench, you see. By mixing in some holy water and a bit of powdered gemstone with the quenching oil, I've made it so the acids can't properly hit the metal. Keeps it from damaging your gear you see. Armed with that, I managed to put together enough to actually form you a shield, complete with that holy symbol of yours! Take a look! he says, sweeping a heavy cloth off of an armor stand in the corner revealing a large shield. Centered on the shield is a large circle of burnished metal, carved to resemble a mountain, with a large emerald set into the center of it.

Now, this shield is far more powerful than just that. I've some small amount of magic I've - ah - discovered over the years. This one is one I'm especially proud of. So long as you wield this shield, you should be less affected by nefarious magics. Hopefully this will keep you safe as you defend our city. he says, face beaming in pride at the shield he produced for you.
OOC:
Mechanically this is a Spellguard Shield. It requires attunement and you have advantage on saving throws against spells and magical effects and spell attacks have disadvantage against you.

As for the rest of you, I am looking for items to give each of you for a similar boost in ability, so don't worry! You'll all have some shinies as we progress through Blingdenstone!
Feb 20, 2018 3:17 pm
Bildaweer's eyes are open wide and he exclaims Most impressive! What fabulous work you do! He walks to the shield and gives it close inspection. He is deeply impressed.
Feb 20, 2018 11:33 pm
Heartboiler also looks pretty impressed with the craftsmanship of Enzo, appreciating the armour and shield. I'll never renounce the Kalagiano warrior ways, but if I'd ever wanted an armour you'd be the man I'd see.
OOC:
sorry for being away so much. I did the "very sick" thing where I was a pile of misery and fever and Sam, my son, was/is doing the same and then some, so heavy weeks! But we're slowly on the climb up, so hopefully more active playing in the near future!

Cemos standing silent in astonishment looks over all the gnome has done for him. After a moment or two cemos bursts out with laughter and joy. Oh my dear friend you have done me a great service cemos exclaims as he scoops up the gnome and gives him a big hug. this is most impressive and i am in your debt. You rest assured that i will put it to good use. Cemos puts the man down and walks over to the shield. As he reaches out to pick it up he pauses for a moment as if frozen in thought. As he looks over the craftsmanship his fingers touch the symbol of the mountain. His home and the people he cares for and all that has happened since then. One single tear ( just one mind you) drops from his cheek. it's beautiful
