I continue up the winding path with my minions in tow. I feel no urge to pick meaningless fights with inconsequential hollows. These husks are already defeated. I was destined for greater things than this. Perhaps beyond the valley I will find something worthy. My spurs scrape against a rock. Spurs? I look down and examine the heels of my sabatons. Riding spurs. Another memory stirs: a mighty warhorse carrying me into battle. I pause and send out my consciousness. Calling, summoning....

Glass shards burst forth from the ground, forming into a large dark lizard. In the scattered light of the shards that sprout from the beasts oily black scales, you can see the distant images of wailing faces. It bows before you and allows you to mount it.

A smile plays across my lips. This steed is even more fitting than the warhorse in my memory. It will serve.

"I dub thee Phrixos."

I mount the beast and spur it forward.
OOC:
I love it!

At the end of the grave the valley pitches upward, the path becomes stairs as you leave the graveyard and the mists. Clouds part and for a brief moment the sun shines upon you. At the entrance to the valley is a stone circle. Some of the stones still stand but most have been slowed to fall. There is a knight sitting on one of these toppled stones he notices your arrival but quickly returns his attention to a small black object in his hands.

From here you can see much of the surrounding country side. a huge stone fortress dominates the otherwise barren landscape. The stone circle lies at the intercept of four paths, the one you have come up, ahead a path that leads to the great fortress and two other paths that lead left and right but hook sharply up and down respectively leaving your sight.
OOC:
Did you allow your minions to keep up or did they lag behind?
Oct 2, 2017 1:24 am
Is this knight another type of hollow, or could it be another condemned soul like me? Spending a use of Divine Senses.

I approach slowly to allow my minions to keep up. "Hail!" I call out to the stranger. "How came you to be in this place?"
Oct 2, 2017 4:26 am
OOC:
I'm not sure how I'm interpreting divine senses in a world where almost everyone is undead... for now I'm going to go with only hollows turn up as 'undead'.
The figure before you does not register in your divine senses, and his response also suggests he is cursed like you. Well that depends on what you mean by this place. I walked up here from the graveyard you yourself just left, it seems like a fair enough place to go hollow. As for why I'm here... I cannot remember.

OOC:
I was hoping to get a sense of evil vs. good. CanI tell what he's got in his hands? And is he armed?
"Have you any idea who lives in yon castle? The Lord of this place perhaps. It may hold answers to these mysteries."

OOC:
By the above you don't get alignments anymore, and the figure isn't powerfully aligned enough regardless. The knight has a sword in his scabbard and a shield on his back. As for the object in his hand, give me a religion check or ask him...
The castle? That's the Firekeep. I don't think anything lives in there, nothing comes out and the last thing to go in is some saint from a long past age. The knight chuckles, Come to think of it though, Whatever's in there may well be the reason we're cursed to linger here. Not that I'll ever find out, I tried to get to the keep but was killed at the gates a few times.
Oct 2, 2017 9:35 am
"Killed? Surely not by these things?!" Malethor scoffs, gesturing at his minions. "What guardian repelled you? Perhaps if you and I combine our strengths we may win this gate."

Rolls

Religion - (1d20-1)

(6) - 1 = 5

OOC:
Your unsure what the object is, though you believe it's linked to the process of hollowing or unhollowing.
Those things, no, they're but chaff in the wind. If you're clever you can get by them without strife. The gate guardian though... Some kind of hollowed knight with a painful weapon indeed. You can go fight him if you want, but I'm done with it all. No more dying and rising. I'm going to sit here and go hollow. The view is nicer here.
Oct 2, 2017 12:47 pm
"Suit yourself. But indulge my curiosity a bit longer. Are you saying that if I'm slain in this place I will simply rise back up in that graveyard? How does one go hollow, and can the process be reversed? Finally, what's that curious object in your hands?"
Oct 3, 2017 1:29 am
I'm saying that you have already been slain, and now your undying corpse is cursed to rise at a bonfire each time you fall. As for hollowing, well it's really just a state of mind. You give up, and all your memories, and will to go one will evaporate away, I'm pretty sure dying helps it along. If your not completely gone you can restore yourself using one of these. He throws the object he's been contemplating over to you. But humanity doesn't last, it only delays the inevitable. We all go hollow eventually. The night chuckles dryly to himself.
Oct 3, 2017 11:07 am
I catch the object cleanly in a gauntleted hand and examine it before putting it away. If hollowing is surrender then it will not touch me. I give the stranger one last look before moving on without a word, up the middle path that leads to Firekeep.
Oct 3, 2017 11:24 am
You start down the path to Firekeep. A short walk before you there is signs of a battlefield. The path becomes nonexistent in the fields of crumbled walls, scattered paths and broken engines of war. You can see many hollows, all dressed in decayed and battered uniforms. Notable among them is the three which hold their post on a broken section of wall, they will likely harry you as you approach.
Oct 3, 2017 11:52 am
"Now we'll test your mettle." I say to my uncomprehending minions. As I urge Phrixos onward I draw a javelin and hurl it at the left-most sentry.

Rolls

Javelin - (1d20+7, 1d6+6)

1d20+7 : (10) + 7 = 17

1d6+6 : (6) + 6 = 12

Oct 4, 2017 7:17 am
You charge forward, your javelin lodges itself in the spoulder of your target. The hollows on the broken wall segments manage to fire one volley pin you and your allies as you approach.

Rolls

Shot on you - (1d20+4)

(2) + 4 = 6

Shots on minions - (1d20+4, 1d20+4)

1d20+4 : (17) + 4 = 21

1d20+4 : (3) + 4 = 7

Damage on minion - (1d8+2)

(6) + 2 = 8

Oct 4, 2017 8:41 am
I urge Phrixos into a full galloping charge. Oh if I only had a lance!
OOC:
How much farther til we're in melee?

OOC:
You can get into melee using a move
Oct 4, 2017 10:15 am
I draw my longsword. With a command to my steed and my minions to focus their attacks on the hollow I wounded with the javelin, we crash into the defenders.
OOC:
I hope it's okay that I rolled my minions' attacks. I don't have the lizard's stats though.

Rolls

1st Longsword attack, damage - (1d20+7, 1d8+6)

1d20+7 : (16) + 7 = 23

1d8+6 : (6) + 6 = 12

2nd Longsword attack, damage - (1d20+7, 1d8+6)

1d20+7 : (14) + 7 = 21

1d8+6 : (8) + 6 = 14

Minion 1 attack, damage - (1d20+3, 1d6+1)

1d20+3 : (1) + 3 = 4

1d6+1 : (3) + 1 = 4

Minion 2 attack, damage - (1d20+3, 1d6+1)

1d20+3 : (17) + 3 = 20

1d6+1 : (2) + 1 = 3

OOC:
For simplicity I'm just going to say Phrixos is s controlled mount so only has access to the dash, disengage and dodge actions.
The ferociousness of your charge overwhelms the first defender, your thralls advance past you and assail the next defender, too varying levels of inefficacy. The defenders rally and assault your minions both landing blows on your minions.

Rolls

Attacks - (1d20+4, 1d20+4)

1d20+4 : (10) + 4 = 14

1d20+4 : (13) + 4 = 17

Damage - (1d8+2, 1d8+2)

1d8+2 : (6) + 2 = 8

1d8+2 : (4) + 2 = 6
