"Yes," Domarc says, thinking of the barmaid. He continues to hold out some food.

She turns her head slightly, looking at the rations.

Even from this distance, Domarc can see that something is wrong with her eyes, he just can't quite put his finger on what it is.

"The heart is hungry," she says, with a slight questioning inflection in her quiet voice. Then, in a different tone, quiet but more conversational than formal: "Who invited you?"

Zangua frowns, almost recoiling after the odd phrase. He then directs his attention to the group's surroundings, aware that if all eyes are on this woman, their flanks are exposed.

"If the heart is hungry, it should eat," Domarc says. He places the rations down on the ground and takes a step back from them.

"We were invited for the skills we bring. Because sometimes the heart hungers for more than food."

Worried about the oddness in her eyes and her physical state, Domarc wonders if the woman is being held in thrall to something. He takes out his drum and begins to beat in time to a soft chant.

Countercharm
At 6th levei, you gain the ability to use musical notes or words of power to disrupt mind-influencing effects. As an action, you can craft a performance that lasts until the end of your next turn. During that time, you and any friendly creatures within 30 feet of you have advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed. A creature must be able to hear you to gain this benefit.
The performance ends early if you are incapacitated or silenced or if you voluntarily end it (no action required).

I have no idea if that will do anything, but I'm also hoping that if nothing else it might be soothing/reassuring

The woman glances around nervously as Domarc begins to play, then starts to walk at a brisk pace down the northwest tunnel.
Jan 10, 2018 7:12 pm
"Yeah, that works," says Zangua, though it's apparent he isn't sure if the woman's reaction was a result of the playing or some other influence.
Jan 10, 2018 7:26 pm
"They don't usually walk out that fast," Domarc says. "Shall we follow, or take the other tunnel?"
Jan 10, 2018 7:31 pm
"She's the only real lead we got," Zangua says. "I say we follow."
Jan 11, 2018 5:18 pm
Domarc nods and retrieves the food he set down.

As they begin to follow the girl, Leth quickly moves over to inspect the entrance of the Southwest tunnel before they leave, to make sure there's nothing down there that might sneak up on them from behind.

Peering down the southwest tunnel, Leth sees a considerable amount of thick webbing covering the walls, ceiling, and floor of the tunnel starting a few yards down. The northwest tunnel has no such webbing.

Are you guys going to try to catch up to the woman, or follow at some distance?
Jan 15, 2018 6:24 pm
Yeah, let's keep some space
Jan 15, 2018 11:56 pm
Zangua keeps pace, padding down the tunnel after the woman.
Jan 16, 2018 5:20 pm
The noxious, vinegary odor of this cavern grows stronger and stronger as you follow the woman down the tunnel. Over the length of 100 feet or so, it curves downward and to the south.

You hear soft voices ahead. The woman, and then a male voice, and then...something else. Guttural croaks and hissing.

Keep going?
Jan 16, 2018 5:50 pm
Zangua looks back at the others, gauging their intent to proceed. His glaive is held ready to receive a charge, or conduct one.
Jan 17, 2018 8:43 am
Felor positions himself alongside Zangua (assuming the tunnel width allows, if not immediately behind), his spear held out alongside the glaive.
Jan 17, 2018 6:18 pm
Domarc stays behind the makeshift phalanx, but nods his readiness to go forward.
Jan 17, 2018 7:00 pm
Zangua proceeds forward, readying himself for whatever might jump out from the shadows.
Jan 17, 2018 7:46 pm
Zangua leads the party around the last curve of the tunnel.

He emerges into a rounded chamber about 50' wide with tunnels exiting to the west and south. There is webbing all over this chamber, both the thick, ropy kind you saw outside and the less unusual dense webbing of cave spiders.

The woman is here, standing near the center of the chamber, with a human male in a similar state of undress and dermatological distress. Two large cave spiders cling to his torso; he raises an arm to shield his wide black eyes from the glow of Felor's spear.

Squatting just behind them, in front of the west exit, are two hulking, purplish-black creatures with bulbous bodies, long arms with two large claws at the end, and small, spider-like heads. Both of these creatures tense and hiss at the party as they enter the chamber.

Roll for initiative.
