"Observing the world around them, they saw two moons in the one sky—light Ashla and dark Bogan—and they understood the dual aspects to the Force, light and dark. The light defined the dark as the dark did the light. When balance was not maintained, Tython reacted to the imbalance with severe storms and quakes. And so the Travelers defined themselves, ever seeking a balance. They became the Je'daii, a Dai Bendu term meaning "mystic center." Only through the harmony of balance could the Je'daii maintain a peaceful world."

- Dandsu Fahri, Je'daii Master 6,590 Tho Yor Arrival (TYA)

Temple Mistress Yen Faen stands before a dozen new Journeyer arrivals, rigid with dignity, evaluating each silently. The auburn fur framing her chestnut face is pulled behind her head and plaited into a long braid that hangs down almost to her knees.

The receiving room is high above the fumaroles of Tythos Ridge and the industrial workings of the factory-temple, but there is still the faint smell of sulfur and the deep thrum of distant manufacturing processes permeating the room.

Her voice is light but cutting, "Welcome, Learners, to Vur Tepe. The Forge.

You will each have your own reasons for why you chose Us as your first step on your Great Journey. Perhaps you are genuinely interested in metallurgy and the fabrication of the tools which shape our world? Perhaps you thought it would be the most difficult of Journeys and you wanted to take it on while still fresh, with a learner’s ready mind? Or perhaps you had just heard of our lovely scenery, and weather?
"

She smirks mildly, looking out of the floor-to-ceiling window behind them. Boiling clouds and jagged peaks frame a grey sky, and flowing molten basins stretch to the horizon.

"Whatever the reason, destiny has brought you here, now. Now you are a white-hot bar among many in the flame of the Forge, ready to be shaped. Soon you will be a hammer among many on the belt of the Je'daii Order, ready to shape the world. And even as we are many, we are all one in the Force. The anvil. We are each a crucial part of the Forge, and the Je’daii Order, and the Force. And now you are one with all of those in Our ranks who toil and prosper here. The beating heart of the Force.

We welcome you.
"

The cathar mistress goes on with the orientation to talk about the workings of Vur Tepe, "Whatever Anil Kesh can imagine Vur Tepe can make real.", she states matter of factly. Within its walls the Je’daii craft a wide range of goods, from the very practical to the very technical. From holo-tech to spacecraft. She talks of the Temple itself, describing its structure and layout and accommodations. She ends her speech by describing the expectations of Journeyers. Most days, she explains, will be characterized by three hours of lecture and study and practicals, with the rest of the day being dedicated to clerical tasks, labor, or other Temple responsibilities. This leaves a handful of hours in the day for personal projects – many use this free time at Vur Tepe to construct their blade – or for leisure, or whatever the Journeyer elects to do with it.

"Now… before you are shown to your rooms, and given a moment to settle in, what questions do you have for me?", she looks expectantly across the faces assembled before her.
Oct 24, 2017 2:59 pm
Amidst the cacophony of raised hands and voices, Artes piles on "Excuse me. Would there be an actual tour? Do you have any curfew? What are the things you explicitly disallow? I guess more importantly, when do we start?"
Oct 25, 2017 3:20 am
OOC:
You guys should be able to choose to post as your PC now, it will display your PC name and portrait next to your post instead of your forum name/avatar. I hadn't clicked the Approve button until just now, so you can do this moving forward.
The cathar nods to the ithorian, "There are holo-terminals to be found at junctures throughout the Temple, there is a public level of access that you can use to navigate the facility. There are also many droids and personnel in clerical roles that should be able to help you, as well. Any actual tour will have to be self-guided, I'm afraid.

There is no curfew. You are expected to attend your allotted courses, and perform your assigned Temple duties, and to do so in at least a satisfactory level of proficiency. Anything beyond that is your business. You are Journeyers now. The course of your Journey is yours to plot.
"

She quirks an eyebrow at his next question, smoothing the front of her tabard, "Ehm... well, as with all aspiring Je'daii, you are expected to strive to embody the tenants of the Je'daii Code. The societal laws of the Je'daii Order apply here in Vur Tepe just as they do at any other city or Temple on Tython. As a Journeyer, you will find the types of contraband which are restricted and forbidden across the rest of the Settled Worlds are just as restricted for you here. Rangers and Masters have a greater latitude in this regard, of course. For certain pieces of armor, weapons and other equipment, you may be able to obtain permit through normal channels. If you need a refresher, I'm certain our Solicitors can provide you with a copy of the Codex? ... What is your name Journeyer?"
Oct 25, 2017 4:23 am
Smirking a bit as Master Yen Faen gave a dressing-down to another Journeyer, Depra nudged the Gamorrean standing next to him. "Hey, whatcha planning on building first here?", he whispered through the side of his mouth. "I thought maybe they'd let me try for a speeder, you know, a small one. But now that she's mentioning forceblades, that seems like the right choice. I mean, who knows when I'll be back here next, you know...?"
Oct 25, 2017 4:47 am
The gammorrean looks to her side and grunts, then reaches up to tap her sternum while uttering a few syllables in her native tongue. Depra thinks she said, "A second skin...", but she quickly snaps back to attention as the cathar Master Je'daii begins pacing their way.
Oct 25, 2017 6:24 am
"Missa..." Artes catches himself.
"Missotrav Artes, mam. I just wanted to know some things upfront. I try to observe all the safety rules that had been written in the blood of less careful men. I try." he says with a shiver as he looks around the room and ponders unspeakable things wrought by his fears.
Oct 25, 2017 12:13 pm
As several others speak around him, a large Trandoshan mutters to himself. He raises his hand at last, but the Ithorian has yet another question. Crestfallen, the Trandoshan waits, his thick brow lowering. When it seems the Ithorian is finished, the Trandoshan asks, his words coming out too quickly, "Are we even gonna use the Force here?" He pauses. "Uh, Madam."
Oct 26, 2017 7:40 pm
Blic Ronneira looks around in awe at the many other Journeyers with him at the Forge, having never seen so many different species of sentients in one place. He listens intently as Mistress Faen gives her speech, though he avoids meeting her eyes, hoping she doesn't call him out to speak. The Cerean nods his head excitedly in silent agreement as a Zabrak next to him talks about building a forceblade, and hopes that there are not very many more questions so they can go get settled in and get started.
Oct 26, 2017 10:05 pm
The cathar's face softens, "Journeyer Artes. You are the beating heart of the Force, the fear in you is nothing more than blood. Let it wash through you, and you will find you still remain. Remember that, always.", she looks across all the faces of the room, clearly meaning that for everyone. Returning her gaze to the ithorian, "I asked your name, not as a rebuke, but because of your apparent eagerness. You ask when we begin? See Master Genlah on your way out after this. It just so happens we have an immediate assignment that needs filling.", she motions to a graying Je'daii human, male with a long and bushy full beard.

...

Mistress Faen looks to the trandoshan and smiles a thin smile that does not reach her eyes, "Well, I guess that depends on where your talents lie and if you posses the ingenuity to apply them. If you craft your blade while you are here - as most Journeyers do - you will certainly use the Force, to waken mere steel ore to the very fabric that unites and animates the universe.", she squints at him appraisingly, and you get the feeling she is probing with more than her eyes. "Perhaps you too will serve Vur Tepe well on our newest... task. See Master Genlah after orientation, Journeyer."

...

She pauses for a few moments, pacing before the gathering, "If there is nothing else, everyone please follow Rangers Lissu and Palek to your chambers.", she motions to two - possibly twin - twi'leks, "With the exceptions of our two chosen Journeyers, of course.", she smiles to the trandoshan and ithorian.
OOC:
Before I forget any longer, will you all please roll a Force Die in your "character sheet" thread, for the Destiny Pool.
Oct 27, 2017 4:09 pm
"A special assignment? And they get to work directly with a Master," Depra thought quickly before taking a step forward. "I'd like to apply for Master Genlah's special assignment," he called out to the cathar master standing in front of the group. Depra started to regret his outburst as everyone's attention turned to him but he continued, "I.. feel that I might be able to help them... the other two Journeyers that is, with a complimentary skill set." Depra tried to look as confident as possible while he stood waiting for a response.
Oct 27, 2017 5:40 pm
Mistress Faen nods a slow nod in recognition of Depra's offer, a thin satisfied smile creasing her lips, almost as if she was anticipating such a gesture.

Master Genlah's hand goes up above the heads of the Journeyers filing out of the room, beckoning to the three chosen.
Oct 27, 2017 6:27 pm
Rossa frowns, blinking at the assignment. Is that a punishment or a gift? Was it because I called her Madam? Beside him, a Zabrak begs to come along, and Rossa can't help the smile that forms at his lips. If he wants it, it's gotta be a gift.

He squares his shoulders and steps across the room toward Master Genlah. A few other Journeyers jump out of his way with a yelp, sensing that he will not stop. He lifts a claw--open-palmed--as he reaches the Master. "Hey, hi Master. I'm Rossa. Uh, I guess we should wait? Or do you think they'll..." He bites his lip. Rossa can't stop bouncing.
Oct 27, 2017 6:45 pm
Artes stays put as the dozen is joggled and stirred up into groups.

A beat.

He takes in his surroundings, the breadth of people around him, the clamor of construction, the hissing of escaping heat, and the possibilities that lies waiting.

He tries to stay out of anyone's way as he tries to get a better view of the bearded fellow and get a bit of personal space. He takes a sling off his shoulders and swings his pack in front of him. He plucks a small sphere out and twiddles with some buttons on the left side of his chest, near his armpit. Once he sees a path clear up, he makes a beeline to Master Genlah and what appears to be a five pin bowling ball seemingly comes alive, jouncing silently whilst following him.

As the rest of the Journeyers were dismissed, Depra made sure his pack was snugly on his back and walked toward Master Genlah. "Hello Master," he said with a sort of nod or half bow, "My name is Depra Cozbro." Standing there, Depra began to wonder what they'd be doing that was so important. Maybe a long lost artifact needed recovering, or some vital bit of machinery here had broken down and they needed to find parts, perhaps they'd be taken off-world! "Oh, and I'm looking forward to working with you all.." Depra said as he looked from Master Genlah, to the trandoshan, and then to the ithorian with his droid companion.
Oct 29, 2017 8:26 pm
You see before you a male Ithorian that strikes one as being on the younger side for his species. He wears a tight white undershirt with black and brown padding, and dark blue pants. A black and white hardshell backpack is strapped to his chest and shoulders, a fusion lantern and a weird helmet with tubes hang by his waist. He stands about one and a half meters tall, and there is a bounce to his gait no matter how awkward it is. Up close, you could clearly see the creases and folds of his leathery skin.

Artes presents himself to the band and piles on "Hi. I uh... It's a pleasure to meet all of you. Mistress Faen said you have something for us. She seems to allude that your needs are pressing."

OOC:
Well, was kind of hoping acox would chime in but... ...

jkl, is that a typo; you are 1.5 feet tall?? Is there something I don't know about Ithorians? As a Journeyer, you're likely of young adult, if not adult age...
The graying human Master has tanned and weathered skin, though he has many wrinkles the fullness of his skin gives you the impression they are more from exposure than age. He is wearing close-fitting and durable clothing colored in dark earthen tones. The blade strapped to his back has a long handle, and aside from that he appears to be carrying little beyond some snap-pouches on his belt. He nods to each of the three Journeyers as they approach.

"Greetings, to you all. Yes, welcome.

Pressing? Hmmm, well, they are new, and we haven't chosen anyone else to fill them. It is certainly no emergency though.

A trandoshan... do not get too excited, Jounreyer Rossa. This is not some hunt to bring you glory...

Follow me, all of you.
", he begins walking at a slow pace behind the other exiting aspirants, talking as he goes. He takes you all down a couple of hallways and through some doors to a communications room, ringed with holo-terminals.

"So... recently, indeed just a few scant hours before you all arrived, an... emissary ship... landed at Vur Tepe from Shikaakwa. Unannounced, and uninvited. As relations are presently strained between Tython and Shikaakwa, we are not inclined to turn them away, yet as you all know, we restrict Tython to Force sensitives only. This emissary has come baring many types of... envoys... none of which are Force sensitive. Of course, we do allow those without a connection to the Force on-planet, but they must have a guardian with them at all times. For their safety. Well, Vur Tepe does not often receive these types of visits, and we are lacking the personnel to watch over our visitors.

That is where you all come in...
", he motions to some seats centered around a holo-terminal in the communications room.
Oct 31, 2017 3:18 pm
OOC:
Yep, meters. My bad. Still shaking bad habits off my system. Edited.
Artes muddles with the controls intently to see what he can and cannot do.

"Precarious indeed. Uhm... I hope you don't mind me asking but do you know the name of the ship or at least its make and model? How about who is at the helm of this expedition? Canned diplomacy can only go so far. How about some legwork? Who would make the call? I am not that great at talking. Guys... ?" he utters before facing the group again, wide eyed.
Nov 1, 2017 5:29 pm
Master Genlah nods as Missotrav speaks, "Yes yes, it is an Envoy-class heavy transport, owned and piloted by the Ryo Syndicate corporate representatives.", he manipulates the holo-terminal controls and a staticky, blue holo-projection jumps up in the center of the seating.

"The ship is presently docked at our commerce bays, as our pedestrian landings cannot accommodate a ship of this size, and it would be unethical to make them land afield... especially so close to the Abyss of Ruh as we are, given that they've brought no Force sensitives. And make no mistake, Clan Ryo knew this - all of this that I've told you so far, and it likely factors into the larger picture, whatever it may turn out to be. If you were not aware, Clan Ryo is a venerable and respected family, of significant power, throughout the System. Indeed they have produced many honorable Rangers and even Masters throughout the history of the Je'daii. Several Rangers serving this day... of course none at Vur Tepe...

They have sent trade, technical, and diplomatic representatives on this ship. As I mentioned, Ryo knows exactly what they're doing. And I get the feeling what they are doing is trying to overwhelm us on diplomatic and logistical levels. There is most clearly no outward, direct hostility intended. The ship is not equipped for anything more than defense, and our scanners indicate it posses only normal numbers of occupants for its crew, security and support contingent - nothing of a size that could be a militaristic threat to Vur Tepe.

Do not worry about making any calls, that is not your role here. As I mentioned, those without a connection to the Force must - by mandate of the Council of Masters - have escort while on-planet. You all, in addition to a few more yet to be chosen, are merely to be the guardians in the Force of the members of this contingent, while they are here to conduct their business.
"

He pauses a moment, looking to the Journeyers.
Nov 1, 2017 6:19 pm
Rossa remains frozen in place from the moment that the group entered the communications center. Master Genlah's words wave over him, but his face doesn't move. There's no sign that he's taken in anything. The green spines protruding from his head in an almost-mohawk don't even quiver.

At Genlah's pause, Rossa's face screws up like he's sucked an unripe jogan fruit. "You're putting us on watch duty? Really?"

Now the muscles that show out of his brown tank tighten, his knuckles clench. "I thought we were gonna use the Force.

OOC:
Let me know if I am being overeager with my post frequency.
Underlined portions are elongated and breathy.
Italicized parts are whispered.
Artes brow furrows. He strokes his chin, then gives the back of his ear a scratch.
"Well... They mean business. What's the harm in asking them what they want? Plus, guard duty can be exciting too. The Force is ever-present. Maybe they could bring the thrill you seek. If they don't, it's only a short stint. Easy."

He starts pacing across the comm room. Bunting his jaw with an index finger, he continues
"I agree with the Master. We are here to exercise tradition but I believe we must give them a call. Let them know that a compromise must be made and that we are coming. They might dislike the show of force but they need the chaperone. Respect their space but draw our line in the sand. It would be terribly surprising to just appear at their doorstep."

He stops with his arms half crossed.
"Yep. Keep them in check and provide some company. Report anything fishy at the end of each day... I don't know. Give it a peep. Maybe they do need us, beyond navigating the expanse."
Nov 2, 2017 3:25 am
OOC:
You're fine by me jkl, I was just delaying to give acox some time to post again and if anything it seems in-character lol.
Depra sighed and his shoulders slumped a bit as Master Genlah described the duty the three Journeyers were being assigned, "Babysitting duty..." Suddenly the idea of just attending lectures and working on his blade seemed more appealing, but he knew there was no backing out of the assignment now and perhaps this would lead to some other, more exciting jobs.

"Excuse me, sir, but how exactly do we act as guardians? Do we need to project a shield in the Force around them? How closely do we need to follow them, and for how long?" Depra asked after the ithorian's musing, unsure if he was talking to anyone directly.
Nov 2, 2017 4:03 pm
OOC:
You're good, jkl. I want to GM for players who want to be involved. And players who are involved will be rewarded by their involvement and actions shaping the plot and the game world. Let me worry about pacing.
Master Genlah furrows his brow a look of mild consternation crossing his face as he examines the trandoshan, "Journeyer Rossa, if you need further instruction on how you can apply your talents and powers to any given situation, I'm certain that transport back to Padawan Kesh can be arranged for you. The Great Journey is for aspiring Je'daii who are prepared to apply such knowledge, once they possess it, to the challenges and demands that the life of a Je'daii will place before them. And if stewardship of those without a connection to the Force is not something you wish to learn to apply your skills to, then perhaps you should examine your path and whether it intersects with the Je'daii Order at all?"

He turns his attention to the ithorian, gray hair draping over his eyes as he stares at the holo-projection, "Well, we know what they say they want. They say they wish to negotiate a direct trade relationship with Vur Tepe, as well as establish a direct technological and research partnership. These types of direct relationships are something the Je'daii and individual Temples have been here-to-fore forbidden, requiring all relationships to go through Kaleth and the Council. However with relations between Tython and the rest of the Settled Worlds strained as they are, it is something we must at least appear to consider."

Turning again, "Excellent question, Journeyer Cozbro. As diplomats in various capacities, the representatives which the Ryo Syndicate has sent have a wide latitude of access to the Temple when not serving in their official capacity. An access level that more or less overlaps with that of a Journeyer. Due to Vur Tepes limited capacity to entertain such diplomacy, there are only a few hours a day when any given diplomat will be engaged in talks and negotiations. Outside of that time, they are free to access those parts of the Temple which they are allowed access as they see fit, whether for peripheral duties - observing the facility, interviewing Je'daii - or simply for their leisure.

It is at these times - when the diplomats are away from their official duties - which you all will be engaged as guardians. Your duties are simple; stay with them bodily at all times until you are relieved, answer any questions they might have which are within your authority to answer, and in the event of any disturbances in the Force - see them safely to their ship. You are to protect these people with your lives, should it be necessary.

Within the walls of Vur Tepe, likely this protection will only extend to seeing them safely to their ship in the event of quakes or Force Storms... be aware though, if you've never experienced one, Force Storms - especially so close to the Abyss as we are - can cause people to see and hear things that are not there, even drain their very life from their bones... especially those with undisciplined minds. If you sense a disturbance, it is your duty to see them as quickly as you can to their ship.
"

He pauses again letting his words sink in.
Nov 2, 2017 5:00 pm
All the anger in Rossa cools in an instant. This is exactly like joining a new crew. Slapped at the first moment, just to show who's in charge. It was a game he knew well.

"Sorry, Master Genlah," he keeps his voice level, his gaze at the Master's eyes. "It's just..."

He's not your old Master. Remember?.

"I have plenty of practice with, er, stewardship. Is this one of those 'keep ears out for anything suspicious, report back privately' sorta jobs? You all aren't just taking them at their word, right? Er, um." Rossa's green skin deepens minutely. A blush. "I mean, I'm trying to understand the, er, parameters of the situation. Master."

The Master's eyes brighten, "Ah, thank you Journeyer, there is the insight and foresight I hope this experience will liven in you all!

Indeed, we believe they are up to something else. Perhaps their diplomatic desires are genuine, but I can't imagine that it is the sum of their goals here. Your role here will also be as spies, of a sort. They are working toward an ends, so too must we work toward ours.
"
Nov 3, 2017 12:23 am
The small compliment the Je'daii Master gave Depra would have made him beam if not for the exchange between Master Genlah and the trandoshan, "Did he say his name was Rossa?" Not wanting to tangle himself up in their exchange, Depra pressed on with the matter at hand.

"So... When do we begin?"
Nov 3, 2017 1:14 am
The ithorian awkwardly squats and pumps up. Visibly giddy, his dull, beady eyes wide open, a big smile smeared on his face he utters "Super! With greater clarity on our quarry, we should be able to perform a better job. I'm now excited to meet these interlopers. Let's draft up a schedule!"
Nov 3, 2017 5:07 pm
Master Genlah nods and nods again, "This guard detail will constitute your Temple duties, you will still be expected to fulfill your studies curriculum. Accordingly you will be splitting watch time with another group of guardians while you are at your studies and during your leisure time. The other contingent is already on duty. You all will begin just after the noon hour tomorrow, following your course work.

I will find at least one more to join you three on your watch, they will be there on the morrow.

Any last questions, before I release you to settle into your quarters?
"
Nov 4, 2017 2:47 am
Artes' form shrinks and his eyes quickly dart left and right. He tries to steady himself before blurting out "Maybe... maybe there could be... guidelines.... on what we can divulge or things we can discuss... or... maybe there are things we can borrow to aid us in enforcing our duty and tradition?"

He takes three deep breaths

His control falters and his face gives a twitch. He is visibly vexed by idea that he might be missing out, whatever the diplomats have to offer may be. "With all due respect sir, can't we at least scrutinize their offer? I suppose the Council could see some merit in it. It might do use some good to stretch our limbs once in a while."

OOC:
Im not gonna run through a list of things you can/not talk to them about IC, it's not important. You guys aren't even full Je'daii yet, and you're not from this Temple. The Diplomats know that you likely don't know anything that would REALLY be of use to them. All you know is answers to questions like, "Where's the bathroom?"

If such a situation arises for some reason, where your PC is wondering if it's okay to talk about something, you'll be allowed a Discipline or Education check or something.
Master Genlah nods patiently, "The tenants and ways of the Je'daii which you have been taught until now are an open book to the universe. You may speak to them freely about such things. And you don't know anything yet about the Temple that isn't available on the holonet, so speak freely of that too.

As for aid from Vur Tepe, you were to embark upon your Journey with all the basic things you need. There is nothing of this task requiring more than that basic preparation. You have access to the facilities that we make available to Journeyers; the cookery, the library, the med-bay, the student lab, shop and classrooms... that is all still available to you.

As for their offers, you will not be engaging in any direct diplomacy. This is important. Do not ever presume that you are in a position to represent the Je'daii in any official negotiation capacity. You may sit in on the official negotiations if you wish. Much of those proceedings will likely take place during your leisure time, if that is how you wish to spend it. But you must attend your course work as normal, and of course never leave your assigned diplomat while on duty.

Anything else?
"
Nov 6, 2017 4:40 am
OOC:
Noted. So we're in post grad students and we're just starting the year.
The ithorian's face goes flush. "Master, I uh..." He catches himself "I made mistakes, I regret the error and I offer my deepest apologies. I have overestimated my position. Again, I apologize. That would be all for me."

He backs down and bows. Always facing the Master, he strides towards the portal off the room but stops just before the door.
Nov 6, 2017 3:56 pm
The Trandoshan folds his green arms over one another. "We're grunts. Got it. He nods. "I guess we better get familiar with this place if we're going to be useful to them at all. Or, uh, useful to you, Master."
Nov 7, 2017 2:39 pm
Looking between his two young compatriots, and assuming they're done, Depra speaks up, "Thank you, for... the oppportunity. We will do our best, Master." Having mulled over what he thought his parents would have wanted him to say, Depra didn't it came across all that well. With a slight nod he turned toward the door to leave, glancing from Rossa to the ithorian to make sure he wasn't just walking out alone.
Nov 7, 2017 4:09 pm
Master Genlah nods and acknowledges each in turn, "No apologies necessary, Journeyer... eh, Artes... yes? Ambition is not a bad thing, when tempered with judgement. In this moment, I am your judgement. That is all.

And you are not grunts. Grunts are expected to be mindless fodder for the cannons. You, Journeyers, are expected to be circumspect observers, insightful guides, and diligent guardians. You are expected to be Je'daii.

Report to me, two mornings hence after your first shift as guardians. Until then, there is an ET-series droid awaiting you outside the room. It will show you to your quarters. You have the rest of the evening to get settled in and familiar with the Temple. I will have my personal comm frequency transmitted to your units, if you have one registered with the Temple.
"
OOC:
At this point the droid will do as promised, unless any of you have something else you want to do?

If so let me know and we can resolve that. If not, we'll do a little time skip, through the rest of this day and the following morning, where you will otherwise be assumed to have just used the time to settle in a familiarize yourself with the Temple, and then attend your first course in the morning. Unless there's anything specific/different you want to do in that time, we'll pick up just before your first shift as the diplomats guardians.

So, anyone have anything?
Nov 7, 2017 9:32 pm
OOC:
I'd like to do some IC introductions and such if people are up for it?

I'll start but if you guys want to move on I'm fine with that, and I'll just edit/delete to adjust.
After stepping through the door and logging his commlink in with the droid outside, Depra turned to the other two Journeyers with a short sigh, "Well, now that we're out... My name's Depra." He stuck his hand out towards the Trandoshan and smiled, "You're... Rossa, right?" and facing the young ithorian, "And Master Genlah called you Artes? I just want to say, that was either supremely crazy or supremely awesome the way you both talked to him back there. I was just looking forward to a special assignment, but I think working with you guys is gonna be very interesting."

"Ah! Yes. Missotrav Artes." He is caught by surprise by the Zabrak. "Uh... I am the one the Mistress called out for the coy question. He cocks his head left and right and takes the corridor in.

A moment.

"Talking isn't my strong suit but it is one of the easier ways to get the feel of the Force. At least, for me. I look forward to working with you guys too. I hope our diplomat is cute."

The Trandoshan holds a claw out to the other Journeyers, a smile forming. "Rossa, yeah. That's my name." The smile almost looks foreign against the backdrop of a haggard, scarred face. But the spines from his head are taller than they had been at Master Genlah's speeches. He shifts from large foot to large foot, his smile lowering just a bit as he waits. "You guys seem better at speaking than me. My old Master always accepted it. Understood it was me, y'know?" He pauses. "Maybe it'll get better."

Pulling his lips to one side, he asks, "Did you both come from more, ah, civilized planets? Or whatever the right word is."
Nov 10, 2017 10:23 pm
The droid begins it's slow shuffle down the hall and Depra waits a moment before following it down the hall, "I guess I never thought about being good at talking or not, just kinda let it happen. Though my mom did teach me not to let it happen as much around Masters." After a few beats he realizes that that doesn't answer Rossa's question at all, "Oh, I was born and raised on Tython. My parents are both Je'daii doing different things, so I'm trying to make good impression and all that." Smirking towards the ithorian Depra continues, "Though getting to spend some time each day with a cute diplomat would be nice haha!"
Nov 10, 2017 10:50 pm
He seems to be leery about the question of his origin at first but then gives.
"Civilized? Hmm... Cultured? Educated? Enlightened? Refined? Sophisticated? If only. I was born in a herdship and lived in the forests it housed. When I was about eight years old, I was sent here to explore my relationship with the Force and spent the rest of my time here. Don't worry about it too much. We'll all grow together here."
Nov 11, 2017 2:55 pm
The ET droid plods along with metallic steps echoing off the floor. Occaisionally it pauses, its head rotating around to be sure its charges are still there, or to process some unknown data stream before moving on again. Eventually you all arrive at a large arched door and it intones in a tinny voice, "We have arrived at the Journeyer Commons Hall, and it is 15.074 standard hours. If I may have your names, I will show you each to your rooms. Or there are also holo-terminals located on the north and south walls, with directories, if you have other business to attend to first.", its head tilts back and forth, internal mechanisms whirring and clicking as it awaits input.
OOC:
Alright so if you guys haven't noticed, acox had been inactive for two weeks with no OOC contact so I booted him. User DM_Apexwolf has joined us in his stead.

jkl, you mentioned you wanted to learn more about the negotiations, right? Instead of familiarizing yourself with the Temple? Go ahead and type up a narrative on how Missotrav goes about it, and form a corresponding Skill pool/make a dice roll. Start with an Average Difficulty with one Setback (2 purple, 1 black), but that may get modified based on what you're trying to find out and how.

Did anyone want to do anything else - besides settle in and familiarize yourself with the Temple - with their small amount of downtime?
Nov 11, 2017 3:16 pm
OOC:
By terms, I meant 'Solicitors' and 'Codex'. My bad. But if I can get around to do that, I'll give it a try.
Artes tries to be doubly sure that he got the right room before changing his attire. He pulls his beeping friend along as he walks the temple halls. He occasionally pauses on holo-terminals to look up on things he can't follow and grasp. After he is satisfied with the area he has covered, he goes back to his room to rest.

OOC:
Ah, my mistake! Pretty much any Journeyer would know those terms without a check, sorry jkl. Solicitors are basically just lawyers, oriented toward internal Je'daii affairs. The Codex is just the Je'daii book of law.

Okay! So if no one has anything else they'd like to do, we'll do a little montage.
The Journeyers settle into their new accommodations, read their introductory curriculum and course materials, and explore the Temple through both the holo-net directories and walks about the facility. The Temple is a massive complex, at least 12 levels disclosed on the public directory. However the portion accessible to Journeyers, without prior clearance or escort, is relatively limited. You all have the opportunity to familiarize yourselves somewhat with that limited area. There isn't a whole lot of time for much else however, as course work - to be followed by your Temple duties - begin the following morning.

So, you all get some rest and wake on the morrow and begin some basic mechanics and engineering studies. There's both lecture and "practical" shop portions to the studies.
OOC:
Alright so, everyone put together a narrative post and Skill check regarding your course work. You could simply use Mechanics or Education if you're already strong in this area, or Discipline if you just bear down and take good notes and study hard, or Skullduggery if you want to try to cheat your way through, and so on... Base Difficulty is Hard (3 purple), your specific approach or narrative may alter that.

Artes immerses himself to the basic scientific practices on-board. Finding solace in routine and guidance, Artes works with laser focus. Like a well-oiled machine, his methodologies are neither innovative nor elegant but it is consistent, reliable, and true. Like a production line, he yields results by sticking to tried and tested methods, replicating what works and scrutinizes what doesn't.

After an arduous correspondence of query and notation, he calls it a day and starts preparing for the field.

The night before class, Rossa's himself. Not particularly comfortable at groups, but the few he speaks to mind him well. He feels like maybe it's okay. Maybe he can settle in here amidst the others. Find a friend or two to learn from. At night, in the dark, he squeezes his fists, his knuckles cracking. This'll be okay.

Then morning comes and classes start.

Maybe I should've taken Mistress Yen Faen's advice, he thinks. Taken some other path as my first step. In his head, earlier, it had sounded cool. Working with tools, using his strength in a more constructive way. But in reality, it was a lot of talking about stuff he didn't get, and a lot of fiddly tools that slipped through his fingers or shook free of whatever screw he needed to twist.

So after half a day of sheer panic, Rossa decides to do what he's good at. Look out. Blend in. Copy everyone that he can see until--through sheer force of muscle memory--he got it.
OOC:
Hope that makes sense. Rossa's just watching everyone, soaking in everything possible. He's not really learning, so much as copying what others do, what they say. Hoping that eventually it'll sink in. So: Perception.

After getting a special assignment on his first day and a good night's sleep, Depra felt like he could take on all of Tython. He sprang out of bed and quickly gathered some of his things before setting off for his first courses as a Journeyer. A few moments after that first course begain Depra realized how under-prepared he really was. Terms and formulae were being tossed about like they were common sense to know, and in the practical courses Depra was confronted with tools and techniques he had never encountered before.

'Kriff...' Every time some new phrase or person was mentioned, Depra tried to make a note about it so he could come back to it later. Some of the other Journeyers weren't having as hard a time and would ask questions about current and future lessons, 'Was that a good question....? Kriff again!' Throughout the few hours of coursework he had, Depra barely felt like he was abosorbing any of the lessons and could only try to make sure he had enough notes to study later.
OOC:
Depra's not so good at book-learnin' so I'm going with Vigilance as he tries to pay attention.

For our guard duty with the diplomats I do have a question. Would it be improper for Depra to be carrying his blaster rifle, and would he know that by now?

Alright, thanks all!

Seems like Rossa and Depra are using kind of less-than-optimal approaches - skills not very well aligned with the goal - to the coursework, so I'm gonna add a Setback to both rolls.

Missotrav, as the weight of the day's lessons weigh on his mind, he will have a Setback to his next check.

Rossa, your net Failure result gives you 1 Strain.

Depra, your net 2 Failure is 2 Strain, but you have 2 Advantages to do something with. Strain reduction, or future Boost, or the creation of a narrative opportunity?

Will add a narrative post after these rolls are completed.

S***, s***, s***. Late. Late for the first class, great work Tov.
She ran long on her meditation and form practice this morning and was rushing to get to class. She bursts through the door to the class a couple minutes late.
"Sorry master. I..." She begins to think of an excuses but thinks better of it. "It wont happen again."
Making her way to her workstation she take out her notebook and begins trying to play caught up, which is not going to be easy on a subject she has no love for.
Ack, machines. I just need to get through this class then it's guard duty. A smile crawls on her face when she thinks of the responsibility that is just a few hours away.
She watches and listens to the master trying to keep up but most of the material is going over her head. Every time there is a pause in the lecture she leans over ans tries to ask a student next to her for clarification.
"Oh, OK. Thanks." She says to them. That didn't help. I swear the Force is willing my to fail this class.
A huge sigh of relief comes once the class is over.

Depra is fine carrying his blaster. You know that to kill a planetary diplomat on a peaceful mission would be an act of treason against Tython, and result in your own execution. Which is to say they trust you as a chosen representative of the Je'daii :P

RE: cursing, I frankly don't have a problem with it on like a maturity-of-the-game level, but most modern swear words aren't very Star Wars-like. So for the sake of flavor/atmosphere (remember: every post, Bring the Star Wars!) allow me to provide this handy Star Wars curse words reference guide :)

Yes, you may spend the Advantage to negate your net Fail Strain.

Also, Apex I've Approved your character via the Game page now too so you should be able to post as your PC (and display their avatar) when u post.
With your coursework over for the day, you all are now gathered outside of the communications room to begin your shift as guardians. Master Genlah is present only as a small, staticky blue holo-projection floating above the console. You all assume he has followed through on his word to find another guardian as there is a mirialan, whom some of you perhaps remember from the new arrivals line-up and orientation yesterday, standing amongst the seating when you other three arrive.

The master's voice crackles through the holoterminal speakers, "Ah, here they are. Journeyers Artes, Rossa and Cozbro, this is Journeyer Offee. The first shift guardians should be arriving with your charges soon. You'll have to excuse me though, I am required elsewhere on the moment. I'll expect a written debrief this evening. Until then...

Immortal in the Force.
", he intones the last line of the Je'daii Code, and his image winks out.

OOC:
I'll try to limit my treasonous actions then lol.

In that case I'm just going to say that I'll always have my blaster while on these guard shifts unless something changes. I won't, however, have all the other bits and bobs I've picked up since I don't foresee needing macrobinoculars or a veterinary kit right now. I'd also like to use the advantages for a boost die, if it's okay I'd also like to save it til it seems appropriate to use (probably the next "schoolwork" check). GM Response Edit: Fair enough, next check it is.
As Master Genlah's image fizzles out Depra steps over to the young mirialan and sticks his hand out, "Hi, I'm Depra Cozbro, and this is Missotrav Artes, and Rossa." Smiling and gesturing to each in turn, Depra realizes as he finishes that he doesn't have much to follow with. "So, uh... We all looking forward to this?"

Tov acknowledges the zabrak with a nod but keeps her hands behind her back. Her stoic demeanor showcasing how serious she is taling this.
"Nice to meet you all."
FaustianFlakes says:
"So, uh... We all looking forward to this?"
"Yes, very much. I couldn't wait to get out of that classroom." Smiling, the excitment in her voice nearly takes her stoic demeanor. Her darker yellow skin almost turns pink from embarrassment.
"*cough* Um, sorry. I am a little excitable. My first assingment out of the temple. I'm Tov, by the way." She resets her stance at attention.

"Rossa, like he says." The Trandoshan lifts a claw out, and--almost superfluous with the sharp talons at the end of each finger--he now wears brass knuckles across both fists. A large vibro-ax is strapped to his back, intimidating. But there's a smile on his face as he *spreads his hands in a shrug when Tov doesn't reach over.* "Sorry I couldn't help you in class. I was struggling myself."

Now his smile broadens, as he glances to the still-closed metal doorway. "But guard duty. Guard duty I've got."

Artes bobs his head into increasingly deeper nods before interjecting with ""Glad to have you on deck! Now, how are supposed to make a good impression with these guys... tour guide... chaperone... sherpa...". A bright and gleaming that slowly cloud overs.

OOC:
Nice, Apex, I love Rinmaru's avatar creators (well, the Jedi and Fantasy Character ones are all I've used, but they're great).
At this time the ET-droid from yesterday comes in the room and stands at the doorway a moment, blinking through back-lit orbs at the occupants.

It's tinny voice echoes hollowly, "Good day, organics. Your presence is requested at the Transportation Level Commons area."
Nov 14, 2017 5:41 pm
OOC:
Just a note Zoom, Tov would not have shook your hand. She feels too much pride in the job given to break her demeanor. She is just young and broke a bit about the idea of leaving the temple.
"I do not know Missotrav, I would wager chaperone if given only those options." She reajusts her stance after speaking and nods her head to the doorway. "I think we are starting."
Nov 15, 2017 7:20 pm
She acknowledges the droid and moves foward ready to follow it.
"Lead the way."
Her stance breaks into a skip, just one, as her excitement again finds the crack in her disipline to show through.
Nov 16, 2017 1:01 am
The droid's eye-orbs blink a couple of times then it nods once and starts in its halting, shuffling gait down the hall, it's metal steps echoing rhythmically.

Being only a little over a meter tall it doesn't move very fast, and it pauses after a couple of minutes maybe ten meters from the turbolift. It looks up and off at something unseen, and you hear some internal clicking and whirrs as it processes some data.

It takes several staccato steps in place to rotate its bearing, so that it is looking upon you all once again, "Pardon me, sirs and madame, but I have a message for you.", there are some more clicks and its eye-orbs flicker before a voice you don't recognize projects from the droid.

It's hard to understand at first as there is a bit of background noise and commotion, but the words come through, "ET-14... ET-14!! Have you found them yet? Where are they?! Tell them, we need them NOW! NOW NOW!!", the message cuts out with a short static squeal, but not before you hear yet more voices in the background elevating to shouts.

The droid tilts its head at the four, its eye-orbs blinking.
Nov 16, 2017 3:36 am
"Oh chit! I should have known from that whirl!" "What now?! Did you have identification? Where was their last position?!" Artes shakes the droid as if the rattling could make it answer faster. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. A beat. He gives the bridge of his nose a pinch.

"We need a vantage point. If there is that much background chatter, I'm sure there's a throng in panic." He let's out a sigh and turns his attention back to the droid. "Thank you for your service. Is there any more info attached to this call? I believe this is where we must leave you. Report back that a distress call has been received."

He looks back at his compatriots, undoubtedly sweating "This babysitting trip just got whacked wicked. We must go. We just have to learn where."
Nov 16, 2017 3:44 am
The droids eye-orbs flicker a moment, "Transportation level, nnnn Commons area!", it intones somewhat excitedly in its own tinny voice once again.
OOC:
You guys know the Transportation level is just a couple of floors up, and the Commons is kind of a central space with some commercial businesses that connects a lot of separate portions of that floor. Not far from the turbolifts if you remember right.
Nov 16, 2017 4:41 am
Between the ominous message from ET-14 and now Missotrav's outburst, Depra is more than a little shaken. He quickly unslings his blaster mumbling, "Kriff" as he double checks the power pack. As the droid continues with the message's location Depra steps forward and gestures down the hall, "C'mon, we'll just take the turbolift up to the transport level, it's the fastest way there." More than a little worried about what they might find, he hesitates instead of continuing on. "I uh.... wasn't really expecting anything like this."

Tov rushes past the Depra, grining too wide for the situation. "You may not have, but this is what I live for. A challenge." She reaches the turbolift and turns, waiting for the others. Her childlike excitment a little off putting given the possible situation.
Finally, a test I can pass.
Nov 16, 2017 4:35 pm
Rossa follows the others to the turbolift, glancing around at the empty and quiet room as they do. Why isn't the ET droid in any hurry, if the message is that intense?

He pauses before boarding the lift, turning to the droid. "A-and you're ET-14? The same one they're talking to?" He can sense frustration at his pause from the others, their eyes on him as he waits for the droid to respond. "Don't you think it's odd them calling for us?" He shrugs, pulling his vibro-ax from its holster on his back and and holding it before him. "I can fight, but surely there are plenty of better people to call in a pinch than me."
Nov 16, 2017 5:19 pm
The droid eye-orbs flicker, "Odd, sir? An ET-14's programming is not to interpret messages. Only relay them. A security measure I am told... I am sorry if I have displeased you, recognizing organics emotions is not my strong suit.", the droid begins its shuffling steps again toward the turbolift just as the doors rush closed.

You all feel the turbolift begin its rapid ascent, sinking your stomachs. In a matter of seconds it comes to a halt and the doors shoot open. You can hear the commotion before you can see it.

Following the sounds of a rhythmic chant, and garbled shouting, you all emerge onto a large open area populated by holoterminals projecting things like strings of transport destinations and schedules, and holo-reel news, as well as tables and seating. The open area is ringed by vendor stalls, as well as opened and closed doors to more shops, and taps, and a few restaurants. There are a few people scattered throughout the area, but everyone's attention is focused on the north east corner of the gigantic room. There you all can see a throng of people - some in the robes of Je'daii padawan, journeyers, and rangers, but mostly in the plain clothes of citizens - holding signs which are unreadable from the back, and chanting and shouting things like; 'Clan Ryo, you must go!' over and over, 'Go back to Shikakwaa!', 'Sleemos!', Krev Coeur was murder!, and so on.

And through the throng, huddled in a shop, with some chairs and a table toppled between them and the angry crowd, you see several figures in fine robes and a handful of robed Je'daii journeyers facing the mob.
Nov 16, 2017 5:57 pm
Tov approaches the robed Je'daii, haste in her steps. "What is going on?" Her smile gone, eyes watching for any signs of viloent agression.

Artes is bewildered by the display. He tries to recall what went down on Krev Cour. He also attempts to make contact with his associates upfront. He first goes with his stubby arms before checking for an appropriate channel. He would also take note if he knows anything about the portion of the room that the crowd is strong-arming.
Nov 17, 2017 4:45 am
As he looks over the protesters and realizes that there's no real violence, Depra puts away the blaster and cautiously walks towards the throng of people. As Tov rushes past and towards the other Journeyers inside, Depra tries to get the attention of one of the protesters in the rear. "Hey, what's the big deal. I thought they were guests here?" he asks of the chanting stranger. But before any response comes, Depra reaches out with the Force to try and get a feeling of what's going on. The anger and fear of the crowd washes over him and threatens to overwhelm him, but over the cacophony Depra thinks he can understand something.
OOC:
Hooo, boy. Here comes some conflict I guess. I'd like to flip a light side point (I know I rolled at least one), and use both dark side force points in order to sense the thoughts of one of the non-Je'daii trapped in the shop (I'm assuming they're envoys). If they don't qualify as "Short" range then I'll just spend one dark side point to read this protester I've stepped up to.

OOC:
Thanks for the reminder, Faust! Apex, please roll a Force die in your Character Record Sheet thread for the Session 1 Destiny Pool.

Also Apex, were you meaning to approach one of the Je'daii in the throng, or those surrounded by the throng?

As for your Advantage, it can go as a Boost to your next Skill check, if that's Initiative that's fine. But you can't "hold" it, past other checks.
Tov can see several people - primarily the Je'daii of the throng, but also some citizenry - are baring arms openly. Not wielding them, but he can easily spot blades, side arms, and non-lethal weaponry in scabbards, hangers, and holsters amongst those in the crowd. The Journeyers standing with the men and women in finery also have arms, though only two individuals are wielding theirs, and they appear to be bodyguard types wearing the emblem of Clan Ryo, they are in armored clothing and have blaster rifles leveled at the crowd. He can spot no concealed weaponry though...

...

Missotrav definitely remembers having seen something in recent weeks and months on the holo-reel about Krev Coeur and Clan Ryo... Something about Ryo-owned mining operations, and land disputes, and citizens of the planet ending up dead... The throng is a mass of bodies pressed tight, preventing easy entrance or exit from the shop, it's slow going for him to work his way through but he can manage it - it will just take some time. There is nothing overtly significant about this section of the Commons, other than that the diplomats and their guard appear to have chosen this shop to hole up in.

...
OOC:
Faust, there are 4 people in the shop that pretty much any one looks like could be a diplomat (people dressed in finery), the rest are obviously journeyers (3) or bodyguards (2). There is the potential you may have to make an opposed Discipline check - for essentially an "Adversary level" which is to say - statted - NPC. So, I'm gonna roll a d4 to see which you get, I'll edit this post to add the narrative text immediately after the rolll here.
Depra probes into the mind of the dignitary, indeed the high levels of fear, anger, and emotion strain his will but he uses them like a ladder to reach his goal...
OOC:
Indeed you need to make an Average Discipline check with one Challenge die (1 Red, 1 Purple). The way I run it, Failure will still yield a thought, but probably the least useful one he has, greater success will yield greater information.
...

Rossa has to wait several moments, as ET-14 did not make it onto the turbolift with everyone else. However the methodical droid is not too far behind, and emerges from the turbolift with his staccato metallic steps. It looks up at Rossa once the trandoshan speaks to him and processes a moment before responding, "Indeed, sir. Journeyer Allahn is the one who haled you. She is ... eh, somewhere... over there, I believe.", the droid gestures towards the throng as he continues his march.

The people in finery - the diplomats - are all trapped inside the shop. There are journeyers - you can assume their guardians - in there with them. There are also Je'daii - of various rank - in the protesting crowd. I gather that you want to talk to a Je'daii in the protesting crowd.

If that was not your intent, you can't really get inside the shop anyway. Without some effort and struggle.
The Je'daii stands with his arms folded his hands resting inside his sleeves, he looks to Tov for a moment, "Hm? Ah, the Ryo Syndicate...", he nods to the diplomats and journeyers inside the shop, "... think they can just walk in here to have a chat like it's pre-Conglomorate days?", he shakes his head, "They've wronged many people. Tython has family beyond Tython... And people hear, and they don't forget. Were they expecting such an overt politicial maneuver as this would go unnoticed? Vur Tepe has no secrets from Vur Tepe.", he goes back to observing the tense stand-off.
OOC:
You guys all know there is an interplanetary conglomerate called "The Nine Houses", which constitutes the strongest dissenting voice against the Je'daii. Clan Ryo is one of The Nine Houses.

Rossa sighs, trying to follow ET-14's outstretched arm. "Somewhere. Perfect. Were you programmed to be good at anything?" He hustles over to the throng, holstering his vibro-ax.

"Allahn? Is there an Allahn here?" He pushes through the crowd, trying to get to the center. But he keeps alert, hoping that Allahn--whichever of these people she is--will hear him before he reaches the shouting people at the middle.

As Depra probes into the dignitaries thoughts, the male twi'lek that is his target stares wide, and wild eyed into the throng. His thoughts are clouded by fear but one flashes by distinct. Foremost in his mind is a disruptor pistol he has holstered in the small of his back...

I had actually forgotten that was part of the price of using dark side force points, so yes I'll use the advantage to recoup the strain I just took. Also are disruptor weapons still a restricted/frowned upon weapon here?
Depra turned to move through the crowd and towards the trapped party. Worried that things could escalate, and dangerously, he comes up behind Rossa and tries to help him move through the crowd faster. "We need to get these Clan Ryo folks out of here, before things get too heated," Depra tries to say just to Rossa over the sound of the crowd.

Rossa turns back to Depra as he pushes through. "Get them out? I have a feeling they don't want to leave." He pauses a moment. Clenches a fist. Grins. "Though that doesn't mean we can't get them to leave."

Wow. Quite the roll.

Whattaya wanna do with all those Advantage?

I will assume you use one to have Allahn hear you (which she otherwise will not).

4 left: You have a Strain you could soak up? You could get an extra Maneuver out of the check? Could pass Boost die, or create other narrative effects?
A strained voices pipes up over the din, "Huh?! Who...! I am Allahn! We are here!", Rossa looks to the voice and it is coming from a female Journeyer within the shop, she stands with her arms outstretched before her, her hands open, fingers splayed - her body positioned between the throng and the diplomats.

Coming from somewhere behind Rossa, a packet of soy-mallow flies over the crowd and bursts on the toppled table. Soon after someone to the right of the crowd splashes some sort of yellow kaf-drink, the liquids barely reaching the knees of one of the dignitaries who shuffles back a few steps. A Ryo bodyguard takes an aggressive step toward the splasher, screaming at them, and gesturing with his blaster rifle...

RYO, you are but pirates!!
", the Je'daii hollers as they turn back to face the scene.

The throng is pressed tight around the opening to the shop, and Tov sees no obvious path out. He gets jostled some as a portion of the crowd recoils from the menacing barrel of the Ryo bodyguards blaster rifle.

We find ourselves in a precarious position of having unexpected visitors. Are we animals, savages, brutes? Let us extend our guests some courtesy. Find it in your heart the courage to be civil, be courteous. Voice out your opinion to the proper channels. Ranting and vaunting does not make good discourse. Discord and dissent would only serve to weaken us!"

Nov 20, 2017 9:10 pm
OOC:
Alright, will use 2 Threat for the following narrative effects, and 1 to give Missotrav an additional Strain.

Also gonna give Missotrav 1 Conflict as he stares down at the stunned, prostrate forms before him.
Several people fall and dive away from the guttural, beastial wail, whether caught in the blast or not - and some remain down. The ithorian that is its point of origin now has a clear view and entry point into the shop, and several of the recoiling people around him now stare down at him in shock and anger.

Simultaneously, the push of the crowd away from Missotrav causes a couple protesters to involuntarily lunge at the shop opening lest they go down under surging bodies. And in response, a Ryo bodyguard - already on edge - fires on one of those protestors, dropping them under the humming, concentric grey rings that are the signature of a blaster stun round. There is a moment of shocked silence all around, as Missotrav begins his speech, but he is quickly drowned out as the chaos renews with a heightened fervor. People in the throng begin throwing things, some in the outer ring of protesters begin to disperse as the scene escalates, and a couple protesters begin yelling at Missotrav, and looking upon him like they might mean violence...
Nov 21, 2017 9:33 pm
That ithorian is gonna get himself killed. She thinks as he begins his speech. Keeping her eyes on the ithorian she speaks to the Je'daii calling the Roy pirates. "I thought we were to bring peace and balance, not incite war." Tov begins to push her way through the crows to reach the ithorian. "Move. Move.
Let me through."

Between Rossa's shoving the way clear, and now Missotrav's bellow throwing people to the ground, Depra tries to hurry to the Je'daii woman who had called to them. "Hi, we're your replacements and I think it would be a very good idea to take all these people back to their ship," and as the Ryo bodyguard's stun round goes off Depra hisses "NOW!". He eyes the disruptor carrying diplomat before turning his attention back to the crowd and his compatriots within it.
Nov 22, 2017 6:51 pm
The Je'daii shouts after Tov, "I am the revealing fire of light!", but otherwise pays her no mind. She recognizes the line from the Je'daii Code, like all of the litanies it has any number of meanings... But it also reminds her of her Padawan training, that while a Je'daii is to strive for balance, it does not mean one must be in balance at all times. Sometimes you are the fire, sometimes you are it's light. Sometimes you are the chaos, sometimes the harmony... She arrives next to Missotrav and, for the moment at least, the crowd pauses an advance on the ithorian.
OOC:
Will use the Threats to inflict 2 Strain on Tov, and a Setback to her next check.

"Looks like my friends are working on some sort of plan," Rossa says, glancing back through the crowd. But he doesn't spare too long a look. He asks Allahn, "What ideas have you tried so far? Have you scouted this shop?"
Nov 25, 2017 2:48 pm
Most of the crowd seems appeased by Missotrav's departure from the immediate area, a couple of the angrier members follow Tov and the ithorian to the edge of the gathering, shouting and gesturing for him to "Get out of here!".

The gathering of diplomats and guardians inside the shop shrinks back within it's confines further, as after the stunning of the mob member, anger and voices have risen. People are throwing shrink-wrapped packets of food, some are swinging bottles or kicking into the air, creating a more volatile boundary between the two sides. A few members of the mob are now brandishing non-lethal weaponry... stun-batons, ion stunners, etc.
OOC:
Mechanically speaking, the +1 Force die boost is gone, now there are 2 free dark-side pips available in addition to the normal result of any Force Power check.
...

Allahn looks to Rossa, wild eyed, raising her voice to be heard above the crowd, "Tried? We've been occupied by trying to avoid this mob, and keep people from bodily accosting our charges!", she glances over her shoulder, "The clerk is over there...", she jerks her head to the northeast corner of the room, where there is a kiosk for transactions, but Rossa doesn't immediately seen anyone.
Nov 25, 2017 9:00 pm
The ithorian is lost at what has transpired. He gives his handler a weary look before staring back at the crowd. He feels his knees throb and pound.

"What have I done?"
"Where are we going?"
"What about them?"

"No!" He plants his feet firmly to the floor. "We are appointed to keep them away from any ill will. Safeguard them from this planet's dangers. If our people want to be such dangers, then so be it." He turns back to his quasi captor. "You mentioned that I could aid in a distraction. Perplexing this many people would be quite a challenge but I am all ears."
Nov 26, 2017 1:40 am
Rossa's about to get mad--he can feel the shakes in his hands that only a fist will quell--when he remembers: I can be someone different. I can be anyone I want. He clutches his hands into fists, but only for a moment. And he gives a serious nod to Allahn. "You've done more than try, friend. These people are safe because of you. He doesn't wait for an answer, but rushes toward where she pointed.

"Hello? Anyone there?"

A sudden look of concern washes over her as Missotrav mentions the idea of putting inocents in danger. "I was not going to go that far. I think an explotion of sorts could give them pause enough to allow the others to escape." She points to the holoterminals. "Think you could rig something like that. I don't know enough about them. But if not, maybe a staged fight back here could also cause pause. What do you think?"
Nov 26, 2017 3:52 pm
OOC:
No need for a check, Rossa, I won't spank ya for that Threat.
As Rossa approaches the kiosk and calls out, a droid stands from behind the counter, "Good day, sir. I am DLR-9, organic-sales relations droid. How may I help you?", the droids servos click and whir as it looks from the commotion at the door to Rossa and back.
Nov 26, 2017 9:53 pm
The sigh at seeing another droid escapes Rossa's teeth before he can hold it in. "Exits," he asks. "There've gotta be other exits. Even a roof escape? Or..." He scans the wares behind the droid, trying to spot anything on the edge of illegal. "Perhaps a side door for customers you don't want seen entering through the main entry?"

Rossa drums his fingers on the counter, already expecting the droid to take its time for an answer. Things outside aren't sounding too much better.
Nov 26, 2017 11:19 pm
"Certainly sir, customers may enter or exit through the main portal..., the droid gestures to the scene of the fracas, ...between 0600 and 1800 standard hours. In the case of emergencies, fire suppression systems, and or lock override protocols will deploy to ensure the safety of all occupants, in addition to automatic notification of emergency response teams.", the droids optics flicker and blink.

The wares are pretty standard mechanics provisioning and repairs items, there are certainly valuable items but nothing illegal. While scanning the wares Rossa does see two doors along the back wall. Both have holo-net interfaces, and indicator lights which Rossa has seen around enough to know they're locked.
Nov 27, 2017 2:35 pm
"Hey, did it just say something about fire supression?" Depra calls back to Rossa and the droid attendant. "Think if we set those off," gesturing to the blaster on his back as he continues, "it'd unlock those doors? Or at least give us a good chance to get out of here..."
Nov 27, 2017 3:42 pm
Artes strains his eyes "That far? But they force our hand." His stance softens. "An explosion might fan the fires of confusion. I am thinking of doing something with the lighting but that might turn sour as well." He gives pause. "They are high on adrenaline, they cannot be reasoned with. Either we remove the diplomats or we remove the mob."
Nov 29, 2017 7:19 am
Seeing the reality of her plan possibly causing more harm she nods in agreement. "We need to get in there with them then. Maybe there is a backdoor or service entrance."
OOC:
Is there a way to the back of the building? I'm imagining this as a elevated platform and the building hangs off the edge. That is just what I got from the picture.
Nov 29, 2017 4:09 pm
OOC:
So the Temple itself is a super-structure. It's basically a single building that contains a small city. If you're looking at the picture of Vur Tepe in the IC Knowledge thread, the ziggurat-like structure that sits atop the platform, that is around 250' tall containing maybe twenty floors. Then the structure extends down into the mountain itself for another 500'.

The Transportation Level Commons is a central area of one of those twenty floors. In short there is no "back of the building" to the Commons, but there certainly may be "backdoor" or "service entrance" areas. That central Commons area is ringed by flight terminals/bays, and warehouses, and a lot of behind-the-scenes logistics type spaces for moving people and things in and out of the Temple, however it is not accessible to the public. You've certainly seen facility employees about that go into and out of facility doors.
Nov 30, 2017 6:12 am
The ithorian groans at the prospect of getting through the crowd. A wonderful day besmirched by condiments and vittles. "Ok. So going through it is out of the question, going around it is workable but my face would rile them up, above or below seems too intricate given the urgency. I am thinking about sending you towards the Zabrak and Trandoshan, and aid them in moving our charges while I'll check the other vestibule areas for another course. I'll try and meet you without making contact with the mob. Keep trying the comms and maybe we could hash something out. Oh, and don't wait for me. Just keep pinging me your location and I'll try to work through the noise. Does that sound fair to you?"
Nov 30, 2017 4:21 pm
Some protesters are dragging off the stunned members of the mob. The one shot by the blaster is out cold, but the two caught in Missotrav's bellow appear to just be staggered and are able to walk with some assistance.

As soon as the blaster-victim is cleared several protesters step up virtually nose-to-nose with the bodyguard. Both parties screaming in each other's faces. Neither really seeming to hear the other "Stand down! You are endangering an official representative of the planet Shikakwaa! Stand down or you WILL be fired upon!", "That man did nothing! You shot an unarmed man! You are pirates and murderers! You are not welcome here!", and so on...
Dec 1, 2017 4:32 am
Rossa glances back at the Zabrak and blinks at him."Could work, though sometimes these things spray water, sometimes foam."

The trandoshan looks up at the ceiling, but his gaze doesn't linger on the metalwork above, nor any spigots that may be there. He tilts his head down, toward the droid. His teeth glint as he spreads his lips in a wide, menacing smile. "There's no emergency button to press? What would happen if you were getting robbed or if..." He shrugs, casual, but he stares at the droid, unblinking. "Or if someone threatened to dismantle you?"

She watches the ithorian speak. His words make sense, causing a fire or explotion may just set these people off. Her head wearily nods in agreement to leaving him behind. "Yea. Be safe." The droid tilts its head as it registers Rossa's words, and looks up to the extinguishing system panels, "This facility is equipped with state-of-the-art Class I electrical and chemical fire suppression systems, sir. Foam suppressant and, if the fire is intense and or wide spread enough, gas-phase asphyxiant oxygen-displacement systems.", the droid pauses as Rossa looks around, it seems excited with the level of interaction, and opportunity to speak of the shop.

"Oh, certainly, sir. If an emergency situation develops I am programmed to trigger emergency protocols. Theft of shop goods, or intended and or wanton destruction of goods, including myself, are appropriate criteria for emergency situations. Are you intending either of those activities, sir? If so, I must ask you to reconsider.", the droids servos click and whir, optics flickering, as its processors go into overdrive.

...

Tov is able to work her way through the crowd. It's a bit slow going, everyone in a jostling mass, but she makes it to the Zabrak little worse for the wear. A couple people begin to follow Tov into the shop, thinking it was time to make a move but two of the Journeyers within keep them back with shouts and minor physicality.

Missotrav heads down the Commons looking for his opportunity...

Artes tries to harness the adrenaline to hurry away from the mob and circles back towards the same wall, palisade, the store is situated in. He rushes past onlookers and attempts attempts not to convey any fear or desperation. Upon reaching the section, he pauses by each storefront to peek inside for some form of access beside the great hall. He makes his way further from the confrontation, and he would occasionally stop a store-keep or two to ask them about such entries and if they could let him use them.

Sweat and tears burns his eyes and nostrils but he plods on through. Thanking anybody who lends him their time before taking a deep breath and drifting towards the next spot.
OOC:
So I am assuming that there are those rudimentary floor diagrams around strategic places of the Temple (and am hoping Artes would perhaps see one). I am referring to the map thing that shows comfort rooms, escalators, elevators, fire exits, parking spaces, and such. Based on the previous map, Artes would go south, then east for some distance, and then back north, scouring towatds east.
OOC:
EDIT: In case I get to keep them, I would use the two advantages I got from the Charm/Negotiation pool to gain a discount at one (or more) of the shops that I swept through or at least a Boost when patronizing them.

As Missotrav moves with a subdued but poorly concealed urgency, he identified a couple of likely accesses along the backwalls of shops. He settles on one that he is most confident about putting him in the approximate area, however the shopkeep is not too keen on letting the ithorian into the "employees only" area...
OOC:
That expenditure of Adv is good with me.

As Tov arrives, Allahn speaks up, "Is this all of you then? Perhaps we make our move?! We are eight now, and all armed! If we stay near the wall, we could separate our charges from the mob - 2 per diplomat, and use our might to make them back down!?"
Dec 7, 2017 5:40 pm
"That sounds like a last resort. I don't like the idea of threatening civilians. Let's wait and see how Artes' plan forms." She walks back to Rossa and the droid. "Any luck with a back door?"
Dec 7, 2017 5:47 pm
"I hope we have that kind of time! ...", Allahn shouts as Tov heads back.

A protester that is up in the face of one of the Ryo bodyguards, is struck in the gut with the butt of the guards blaster rifle. The young man doubles over, his breath fleeing his lungs. The shouting and restleslness intensifies...
Dec 7, 2017 7:58 pm
Rossa's grin widens--showcasing two more of his sharp teeth--at the droid's response. "That depends entirely on you," he says, spreading his hands casually even as his gaze remains fixed on DLR-9. "I don't want to hurt you. I don't like hurting people. But I am, unfortunately, pretty good at it. So what d'you say? Want to read this situation as an emergency?"

Now Rossa slips the vibro-ax from his back. There's commotion at the shop front behind him; he doesn't turn. "Or do I really have to inflict some damage before you open that door?"

The droid's optics flicker and pulse as it shuffles backwards, it's arms flailing for a moment, "Oh my! As you say, sir!"

It bumps into the wall behind it, then shuffles forward again, extending a hand where you see a holo-jack emerging from its index finger. The droid inserts the jack into a port on its holoterminal and almost immediately a klaxon begins to sound.

"Just another moment, sir...", the droid stammers as it looks between Rossa and the terminal, the holo-jack rotating back and forth.

"There we are!", it exclaims and looks to the nearby door which opens.

He glances behind him and finds Allahn and the others looking around, confused. "Allahn! Found another exit. Let's make it quick." But there's more, he realizes, than a safe exit needed. And while 2 for Coercion seems kind of steep to me, Fear is a big thing with the Darkside, even just being afraid can give you Conflict (on a failed Fear check), so I guess inflicting fear in someone is worth 2.

I probably should have warned you, given you a chance to retcon... that is something I said I'd do (warn you guys when you're about to earn Conflict).

Frustrated and alone, he takes a seat and contemplates on what his new found well-wisher can do for him. Hunkered down, ponders what what lies beyond looks like.

"I could ask for a chaperone...
Just passing through...
How about the ducts or vents...
Should I tell them about the politically charged fiasco..."

Artes takes a deep breath as he stands. Another venture, another wrangle. This time, the kid gloves are off. He approaches the head of the stall once again. With modulated breathing, piercing eyes, and a pit in his stomach, he ambles towards the shopkeep and explains his situation, from being new to the Temple to the debacle happening with his comrades. He offers what ever concession and compromise he could think off. He explains that he direly needs to make way to reunite with his company.

At the blaring klaxon, Rossa gently--ever so gently--removes Tov's hand from his arm. "See? Even a droid doesn't want to get busted."

He glances behind him and finds Allahn and the others looking around, confused. "Allahn! Found another exit. Let's make it quick." But there's more, he realizes, than a safe exit needed. He asks Tov, "What do you think, stay behind and let them make a getaway? Or force the Journeyers we're relieving to take on that chore?"
"We stay with the diplomats. They are out responsibility." She walks to a couple of the guards. "We found a back way out. I need you to stay behind and give us a chance to get the diplomats out." She turns to address the diplomats. "Follow us."

Allahn nods and calls out a command to the other Journeryers with her, whom all move as one into a tighter formation in front of the mob. The Ryo bodyguards and diplomats - once Tov is able to get their attention, which takes some doing due to the noise - back slowly and cautiously away from the throng. Upon seeing the objects of their anger begin to retreat, the mob presses forward! A handful of people begin to grapple with the original Journeyer guards in their formation, the diplomats hurry to get behind their guards - Ryo and Je'daii - and then... something larger than any other projectile yet comes flying out from the depths of the crowd...

You three watch for what seems like an eternity as the object arcs overhead before clattering along the ground with a metallic resonance. It rolls and rolls and comes to rest amidst you all. It's with some amount of dismay that you all realize it looks like a grenade. And then it detonates...
OOC:
Flipping a Destiny Point to upgrade the attack.

If anyone plans on engaging with the crowd, go ahead and roll initiative, otherwise we'll stay out of structured play just yet...

Bah... what a lousy roll. Well, if it doesn't rankle you guys too much, I'd like to exercise the little blurb in the Blast weapon quality description that reads "In a relatively small area, the GM might decide that everyone in the room suffers damage." First, you guys are fully able to argue the same thing were you to use a grenade, but also I think it will make things more interesting and dramatic >:D

7 Strain damage, all. Soak applies as per normal.
The small cylinder explodes, not with the flesh rending violence of a high-explosive, but with the ear splitting BANG! of a "mercy" grenade. The droid clerk, as well as several people from the mob who had pushed into the shop, drop to the ground, cupping their hands over their ears (or auditory sensors)! It's only after you've had a few moments to compose yourselves that you realize one amongst the diplomats has also been stunned by the blast, a Ryo bodyguard is already dragging them toward the open door... You hear and see most people in the mob are now screaming in terror and fleeing from the blast, but perhaps ten members still remain... And they come forward in a fresh wave, looking like they're about to scrum with the original three Journeyer guards, still in their formation at the entrance.

...

As Missotrav negotiates with the shop keep he hears a loud, hollow, out-of-place-seeming POP!.

The droid shopkeep appears to have had its circuits overwhelmed, it lays on the floor, on its back, arms flailing weakly and optics flickering.
OOC:
Heh, Ryo is with you, there's not much smoke, and yes. I would encourage all of you to take greater amounts of narrative control, when it seems appropriate/you feel like you have a good grasp of what's going on - and you aren't using it to create undue advantage for yourselves. In tense combat/combat-like situations you may not feel comfortable doing that, and that's fine, but also I will be able to roll with most choices you make so long as you're using this license to create drama and bring the Star Wars (as opposed to, create auto success and gloss over the tough parts).

Tov stands shaking the fog from hee mind after the blast. Her hearng faultering she pushes the trandoshan toward the door after the diplomats. "Go! The droid is useless now. Get ahead and clear the path in front. I'll take up the rear amd make sure the door gets closed." Her voice much too loud for the proximity.
She moves in front of the Journeyers and stands defensively, ready to deal with any threat that trys to pass her. "Stand down! Killing these few diplomats will not solve the issues you have with their house. Choose your action while calm not in anger. That only ever leads to ill-advised choices that hurt more then just you. So the Dif will be the highest of those 3 (the group of 4 ppl) + a Setback to represent essentially an Assist from the other two Minion Groups.
...
Okay, same result lol!
The mob members continue their cautious advance on the Je'daii... shouting defaming cries that by now are familiar to you, even as the words jumble together into near incomprehensibilty. As Tov prepares herself, she sees that although many of them have arms of various sorts at their sides, none are baring lethal weaponry.

Allahn looks to Tov, she stands in a ready but defensive combat stance, and nods resolutely. Her brow knitted tightly in determination, and a deep frown on her face.

"Ryo!" the Trandoshan barks. The angry crowd is closing in, but the Ryo diplomats and guards cluster around him. "Follow me. We'll do our best to lose them and get you to safety."

He ushers them through the door and follows, not bothering to glance around for a panel to destroy and seal the door closed. Better to run and leave the other Journeyers options.

"With me!" And Rossa crosses past the other Ryo and runs down the hall. He tries buttons at random doors, but none open easily. So he keeps running, leading the diplomats down the hall as it bends away from the cacophony behind and into twists of passageways that he has never entered.

Note to self: more exploration, he thinks.
Dec 19, 2017 11:29 am
"Ha... It would appear that talk is not going to get us much farther." Stepping up next to Allahn and Tov to face down the crowd, one of the other Journeyers says something audible enough for them to hear - in a growling, different language from the Basic everyone here spoke. Standing at his full height of two meters, the Wookiee with dark brown fur and wearing something resembling light body armor still has a slight smile on his face, despite the rather dire turn the situation has taken.

With a resolute nod towards his two fellow Journeyers, Wrrock prepares himself for what appears to be inevitable conflict. Under his fur, a single bead of sweat runs down his forehead, as he attempts to focus despite the far greater numbers they were facing.

The members of Clan Ryo follow Rossa and Depra into the halls. The group pass by bay doors, regular doors, and occasional conveyor openings in the walls, as well as narrow branching tunnels crowded with piping, hissing with steam, and humming with electricity. As you go, they crowd by a worker or two who are left in their wake staring at the odd procession with puzzled looks. There are markings - on the floors, walls, and doors - but without knowledge of their meaning, no doubt the jargon of the behind-the-scenes industry here - it does little good.

Zoom, can you make a Hard Perception check to try and get/keep your baring, +1 Setback due to the rushed circumstances.

Combatants, here are the initiative slots:

Unless someone wants to do something special, seems like for the PBP games I've played in that the person who rolled the slot just uses it to make things easy. That said, Wrrock is Staggered this round and takes a Strain, so maybe we'll save that last slot for him this time ;D
...
OOC:
jkl, I was trying to hint earlier that a bribe could give you a Boost to your check. But that's still not a great % chance to get the success you need. Tov turns to her fellow Journeyers as they setup a wall with her. 'Stay strong, they are looking to you.' She thinks as her fellow Jouneyers give her more resolve to keep her calm. "Stay vigilante. Back slowly toward the rear door." She times her steps with the others and backs to the door, keeing an eye on the crowd.

OOC:
So you are basically taking a Maneuver to move to the door, sounds like? It's Short Range to you, so you do have an Action that you could use for a Skill or Power check, or you could convert that action to a Manuever, as well. Did you want to do anything with it?

There's no such thing as delayed actions in FFG, it's all a prolonged engagement encompassing up to a minute ingame time, and multiple exchanges, and localized movement. So if you want to do anything with your Action, you have to do it on your turn.
The other Journeyers move in unison with Tov, still readied to fight, with the exception of a wookie who appears to be momentarily shaken by the coming fight... Then the angry mob comes at you all...
OOC:
I'll hold off their rolls just yet incase you want to use your Action, Apex. Moving forward when we're in structured gameplay, in addition to the narrative text, please layout your round OOC in the terms of structured gameplays "units", Manuevers, Actions, etc.

For their turn Allahn and the Journeyer by her use their Manuever to move to the door, and their Action to take the Guarded Stance Manuever.

OOC:
No problem at all!

Not at my books right now, but I don't think Minions can willingly take Strain so here's their round 1...

The Minion Group of 4 ppl (MG1) Maneuvers twice (Med>Short>Eng) to Engage with Allahn+1.

MG2 Maneuvers twice to Engage w/ Tov.

MG3 Maneuvers once to Engage w/ Wrrock, and uses Action to Brawl.

They will pass a Boost to their next Ally.

Silim, your go. You can Maneuver, but that's it due to Stagger.
The civilians circle up around the Journeyers. Those approaching Wrrock engage in an awkward halting and half-hearted assault on the wookie, using untrained kicks and punches. Wrrock is able to fend them off and defend himself without any of them landing a significant blow... for now.

For all his courage he had wanted to show by stepping up with his fellow Journeyers, the young Wookiee felt himself overwhelmed by the actual pressure of standing opposed to so many. They weren't a real threat - his ability to fight them off without even drawing a weapon was proof of that. But the animosity and anger from these civilians was so all-encompassing that he could almost feel it without relying on the Force.

"T-tch...! Back off already! This won't accomplish anything!" growling out a sentence towards them, Wrrock adopted a defensive position, finally regaining at least part of his composure, yet fully aware he might not get out of this one without letting his fists do some of the talking soon...
OOC:
Maneuver to adopt a Defensive Stance! Disengaging won't help me much without a second maneuver to join up with the others, after all. May as well serve as a furry punching bag. Tov and the Journeyers should probably go first next round again!

"Warok, are you OK? Keep your feet under you, don't let the anger in. They only act from emotion. We know better." She says to the wookiee hoping to give him some resolve.

Lost and maybe just a little disoriented--Why didn't the Masters give us any maps? Rossa thinks--Rossa tries a few doors along the corridor, but none of them budge. He keeps moving, trying to remember what might be on the opposite side of these doors. More shops, maybe? He turns a corner, then another, leading the Ryo.

For all his bravado, walking confidently along, a pit grows in Rossa's stomach as each hallway looks more like the last.

OOC:
So, Wrrock is at Short Range from Tov initially here. Accordingly, you would have to take a second Maneuver, which takes 2 Strain, to accomplish all of those things (see below). And Tov only has 3 left... Do you still want to take the Guarded Stance? Or would you rather take the Guarded Stance, and not Assist Wrrock (and use your Action for something else)? Or do all 3?

Here's your breakdown:
Maneuver, Engage w/ Wrrock (so you can Assist him).
Action>Maneuver, Assist Wrrock.
2nd Maneuver, Guarded Stance (2 Strain).

I'll wait to resolve Tovs attackers turn until we sort out what you want to do.
Allahn and her cohort brawl with the mob memebers, displaying a level of skill the civilians lack, in a coordinated series of strikes, feints, and blocking forms, however the mob has them outnumbered 2 to 1.

Wrrocks mob members come at him again, this time sending two at once!

Ok, so Allahn+1 beat on their mob, dropping 1 of the 4, the mob beats on them, dropping the +1 Journeyer (w/ the Triumph).

Dec 24, 2017 12:32 am
OOC:
I want to note that you can never do more than 2 maneuvers on your turn, even if you convert your action into a second maneuver. Free maneuvers caused by enemy threats do not count for this limit. Also you were correct earlier, minions can't voluntarily take Strain. Also, due to my Soak of 5, those 3 damage from the crowd do nothing... For now.
Wrrock felt the flurry of punches impact his armor, defending himself as best he can without outright hurting someone - but as two of them knock him back and forth, he realizes how fruitless this endeavor is becoming. Allahn and the other Journeyers had started fighting back.

"I agree that anger will not help us for long, but...!"
Ducking under a swing, Wrrock's right hand pulls what appears to be a long wooden walking stick from his back - but holding it like a blade, he suddenly goes for the offensive!

"Sometimes the right and better thing to do is to answer emotion with emotion!"

Twirling his training stick in his hand as he roars the final words, he rains down a flurry of blows and jabs onto the group surrounding him.

Wrrock was starting to get frustrated - despite attacking back with his training staff, the civilians were in too much of a frenzy to back off. With a deep sigh, he closed his eyes for half a second, and let the Living Force all around him flood through his body and mind. Directing his body with Willpower and the Force alone, the Wookiee Journeyer rushed back forward with a flurry of jabs and swings with his stick.

No way was he going to go down against a bunch of fools that thought they could solve their problems by killing or beating up some diplomats.
OOC:
Maneuver to Aim, one additional boost passed along from last turn. Attack on the group I'm engaged with. In case this hits, the weapon deals only Stun Damage so should reasonably only knock the people out even if they're minions.

As Rossa questions Clan Ryo a couple of them start to meander back the way you'd all came, then a Ryo Bodyguard speaks, "Last I saw her was back this way... and isn't it the Je'daii who are supposed to be looking out for interplanetary diplomats in your home? Why are there only two of you for four of them?", without waiting for a response the bodyguard starts heading the other way.

...
OOC:
Silim, I just now am noticing Wrrock's Moral Weakness is Anger. Would you be opposed to making a Hard Discipline check to "resist" Wrrock letting anger overcome him in this fight (take 4 Conflict on Failure, 1 upon Success - the minimum of 1 because it sounds like from your IC description that the anger is there somewhat at least in frustration)? If you accept the check - pass or fail - this will have "triggered" your Moral Weakness mechanically speaking, so that when you roll your Morality at the end of the "Session" any gain/loss will be doubled. Otherwise you'll not have had the opportunity (yet at least) to even roll for a Morality change.

FYI, I will be flipping a Destiny point to Upgrade this Discipline check, should you chose to accept it :D

If you don't want to accept this check, that's totally fine as well of course, you just may not have the opportunity to roll for Morality.
Wrrock whips his staff back and forth with a quickness that bewilders the mob members. In the span of a few thrusts and swings he has dropped one of the men and pushed another nearly beyond his willingness to fight - Wrrock can see it in the other man's eyes, the fear, the anger - it washes over him like warm water, and the Cosmic Force emanating from Tython responds, threatening to build it into a boil...
OOC:
Tov, your go! I'll save Allahn's turn for last/w/ the mobs'.

Also, in case anyone has forgotten, or missed it, Tython's strong Nexus charateristics are presently making 2 free black pips available on any Force Power check, on top of whatever you roll on your Force dice.
Dec 27, 2017 5:47 pm
OOC:
Sure, sounds entirely reasonable! Wrrock doesn't like giving into his anger, but its his weakness for a reason. I'll flip one Destiny Point right back on the Discipline check, so both sides get upgraded!
As Wrrock drops the first assailant into unconsciousness and drives a second one close to it, he feels a wicked, yet warm and welcoming feeling washing over him - one that he has grown to know as his own anger, whipped up and strengthened by the cosmic Force that was in absolutely everything here on Tython, threatening to sweep him away as well into a complete fury. Gritting his teeth underneath his smirk, the young Wookiee attempts to keep his mind clear despite the anger flooding his very being...

I'm going to give Tov an upgrade on her next check. Narratively, Wrrock is taking in so much of the negativity in the crowd that Tov has a chance to do something with a clearer mind, as her new Wookiee friend makes sure to not let the mass of anger overpower him... too much.
Dec 29, 2017 8:32 am
Tov unhooks her sword, leaving it in its scabard so as to not endanger the civilians and shouts to the crowd. "I tried to reason with you and keep you safe. I apologize for this but it is better than what the wookiee would do." She unleashes a few debilatating bows to give herself and the wookiee some much needed room.

In general, I think it would usually be considered as an Improvised Weapon attacking w/ the scabbard, which uses the Melee Skill and doesn't have a way of doing Strain damage, but since I kind of shoehorned in the grenade Blast effect (which in retro-spect I should have flipped a Destiny for), I'll go with the rule of cool here and just have it all stand as is.
A mob member loses his breath as the sheathed blade batters him, but he keeps his feet!

You can all feel the desperation - the fear and anger - emanating from the mob members, as they see the Journeyers fend off their attacks and dwindle their numbers... Tov barely has time to notice one of them has drawn a shock prod before he is on her! And the man whom Wrrock has put on his heels, stumbles a few steps away before shouting "You're all traitors!", as he draws a heavy blaster pistol and fires!
OOC:
Both of your MGs have to spend Maneuvers to draw, but have an upgrade from previous Triumphs, could get interesting!

Alright Tov, 6 Strain, Soak applies.

Wrrock, that triumph nets, so 8 Strain -Soak, and they'll crit... Head Ringer +1 Dif to Int/Cun checks thru Encounter. Plus you have a Threat to spend on them.

"Back it is," the Trandoshan mutters to himself, shouldering through the crowded hallway to get to the front. "Keep close, everyone!" He glances back to the Ryo.

They bobble back and forth in the empty metal hallway, eyes not nearly wide enough. A few faces are nearly red with fury. A snarl on a nearby face. They instigated this, Rossa reminds himself. They came to this planet uninvited. Remember what you told Master Genlah you'd do. Keep your ears out.

"Watch your neighbors, we don't want anyone else wandering off. Rossa glances to the Ryo Bodyguard. "As my friend here said, we're running a bit shorthanded.
OOC:
I'm rolling Charm to try to get these Ryo on Rossa's side. He'd rather not anyone else wander.

Take a Strain for that Threat!
The Ryo folks grumble and mutter, not seeming to hear Rossa's plea for what it is, but they also voice no further objections.

And after you all have back-tracked for maybe a dozen meters, you are approaching a 'T' in the hallway when the Ryo representative comes around the corner in a bit of a hurry.

"Oh! Ah, there you all are!", she stammers, "I... thought I had seen an exit marker. Turns out I was wrong... Ah, good ser Je'daii... uh, where are we?", she smiles a polite smile.

Time seemed to slow down for a bit as the crowd began to draw weapons - stun weapons, sure, but still actual weapons. Wrrock attempted to duck under the sudden blast of stunning energy shot his way, but the blue light slammed right into his head, knocking his senses for a loop and causing him to roar out in pain. Stumbling back a single step, the Journeyer felt his walking stick slip out of his grasp and clatter to the floor.

"Traitors...? The only traitors here... Are you!" Ripping the brass knuckles out of the satchel on his belt, Wrrock roared forward at the man that had shot him, his fist flying free. "If you resort to violence, then by violence be undone!"

In balance with chaos and harmony. So I'll stop this surge of chaos as fast as I can!
OOC:
Free action to let go of my training stick. Maneuver to pull brass knuckles. Taking 2 Strain to take another maneuver to aim. Since the minion group used a ranged weapon on their last turn, I'll add an additional boost to my check. Also, flipping a Destiny Point to upgrade my check! Time to make this escalate a bit.
OOC:
Edit: Damage 4 base +2 for successes +2 for being critically injured (Wookiee racial ability). Since Wrrock isn't a dick, he's going for stunning punches again, so its Strain damage. Internally, though, Rossa can tell he's screwed this up. The mostly-Ryo crowd is turning into a mostly-Ryo mob. Soon enough he'll lose all control over them if he isn't careful.

OOC:
Tov, there is still a PC slot before the NPCs turn. You want it?
...
OOC:
Apologies Zoom, but you can't have held onto that Advantage from your Cool check to be used now. If you had Strain at that time in fine with saying you used it at that time to recover a point. But no banking. As for these 4 Threats, I'm gonna use 2 to inflict Strain, and two to give you a Setback to your next check.
Rossa scrutinizes the Ryo Diplomat as she makes her speech and he immediately gets the distinct feeling that she's lieing to him... she didn't think she had seen an exit. The realization adds a new level of pressure to the situation as the implications creep into Rossa's head. However, with all the traversing of these passages, Rossa does feel more well oriented now, and he is certain he can head them in a direction that will at least not take them deeper into the halls of this maintenance and logistics-oriented area.

Casually, Rossa tells the Ryo, "Now that we're all together, let's get going. No exit that way, so there's gotta be one the direction we're headed." He counts them, now, and remembers the number so he can keep recounting as they walk. I hope the others are nearly finished, the brute thinks. I'm barely managing on my own.

He swivels to follow the Ryo down the corridor that he's hopeful will lead toward the exit. But before he gets out of sight, he takes one last glance down the hallway where the rogue Ryo vanished. He tries his hardest to take in every detail, hoping to tell the Masters later when he reports in--when he finally gets these Ryo back where they belong.

Seeing the weapons drawn by the mob and her clock cleaned some, Tov checks her aggresive demeanor. She shakes the cobwebs out and notices her wookiee ally begin to become more aggresive.
If he isn't careful he will kill someone. I need to get of out of this.
She grabs the wookiees arm.
"We need to leave. Now! I thought fighting back would scare more of them off. This is escalating too fast." She is as forceful toward the wookiee as she can be, dragging him if she needs to.
OOC:
Not sure on what to roll. Using a Maneuver to take the Guarded Stance. Then want to use my Action to move pulling the Wookiee if he is unwilling.

OOC:
You mean the Ryo Diplomat? No, she rejoined you all. The person down the hall looking a quizzical is - presumably - some employee who's supposed to be in these halls. They are wearing a uniformed jumpsuit much like many other in-lookers you've all passed by, anyway.

Of note, Stimpaks only recover Wounds. One of the few ways to recover Strain in a moment like this (aside from spending Advantage) is to "take a minute", basically sit down and rest/gather yourself and make a Simple (Zero Dif) Cool or Discipline check, successes = Strain recovered.

However, I'm currently engaging you in basically a "mental/social combat" encounter, so you can't "take a minute" until that encounter is over (when u get out of the halls)... If you exceed your Strain Threshold, you don't go unconcious or anything, you're just "out of the encounter" overwhelmed, mentally exhausted, whatever, the result being that Rossa is not gonna have any IC control/recollection of what happens from that point to when the encounter is over. Basically, I can do something(s) "behind the scenes" that you guys won't know about.

RE: the Triumphs, you could have something equivalent to "turn the tides of battle" happen - standard Triumph expenditure, a helpful employee comes along maybe? If you're concerned about your Strain, you could use a Triumph to recover 1, though that's a very expensive Strain to regain. You could upgrade a future check? As a narrative effect you could successfully commit to memory the location of that intersection? Let me know what sounds groovy.

Also, I'm realizing I never really gave you anything for the successful Perception check...
Just as Rossa turns to go, leaving the scene of the Ryo diplomats disappearance, he notices something glinting in the light rolling around on the floor. A loose screw? That's the only sign of disorder he's seen on all his time in these back halls...

Not at all, Apex. Happy to help you learn!

If Wrrock comes willingly, no check. If Wrrock doesn't want to leave, he can make an opposed Brawn check on his turn. Difficulty = to Tov's Athletics Skill (PP), Wrrock's net successes would Strain Tov an equal number.

Rossa takes a quick glance back to the others, shrugs--So what if they see?--and picks up the small object on the ground. He takes a final glance toward the corridor, memorizing every detail. Got it. Got it! His teeth glint as his lips spread in a smile.

"Okay everybody, time to get going. There's gotta be an exit here." He counts the Ryo again, gets the same number, and proceeds down the corridor again. This time, he keeps checking on them after every corridor. Keeps counting. Keep them in line, he thinks, but a part of his mind doubts they'd pull the same shit again.

The three members of the mob pursue Tov, harrying her as she pulls her ally towards the door.

The lone figure facing off against Wrrock fires on him as he goes, but does not look like he's going to pursue.

As Allahn sees the other two Je'daii making a withdraw, she moves to stand over her fallen comrade and shouts, "Go! I'll be okay...", and squares off against her combatants with grim determination.
OOC:
Jeebus! The Triumphs are a-flyin'!

You guys are through the door, but this last group is still pursuing... what ya gonna do?

As Rossa turns to go, a Sullustan wearing a jumpsuit approaches. "Excuse me... what are you all doing here? An exit? Well, there's one this way... ...but I'm afraid I'm going to have to take your information.", he pulls out a data pad and begins punching at it with thick stubby fingers, looking back and forth from your faces to the pad.

Just as they got through the door, Wrrock turned towards Allahn - his eyes widening as he realized the plan of his fellow Journeyer. For just a moment he is about to ignore her words to try and get her through the door as well, but then another stunning shot sends him right through the door with the force of it, right before a stray blue ring short-circuits the door panel and causes it to slam shut.

Shaking his head in frustration and to get the ringing sound in his ears to stop, Wrrock stumbles back to Tov's side. Much like her, he's in half a mind to break down the door with his bare hands to get through... But even then, they'd just be back to square one. Placing a heavy hand on Tov's shoulder, the Wookiee shakes his head.

"Allahn's giving us a chance, here. We have to find the others, and alert the master. We two alone can't help Allahn - I fear we lack the strength." Saying these words pains Wrrock - even through the thick fur he has, his pained facial expression is clear. "Come. We have to hurry."

As the mirialan and wookie turn to venture into the halls behind the shop, they pause just a moment more as they think they can hear through the closed door the repeated vibrato blast of emergency response team horns... But shortly the sound of frantic working at the door spurs them to move. The two head out through an open staging area, stacked with crates, and then find themselves in a mostly non-descript series of hallways and doors. There's little in the immediate area to indicate where their comrades and the Ryo Clan members could have gone... the only thing that draws their attention is the approaching sound of a wheeled droid.
Jan 9, 2018 10:26 pm
Frustrated with the turn of events, Tov heads straight for the droid without a second thought. Her blade back on her side but furry of battle swelling in her palm. The R1 blurts out a series of short arpeggio beeps, "Easy! Outside of Receiving Bay 4! That way, your second left...", and extends a utility arm pointing to the north and east.

The pneumatic hiss and squeal of an opening door draws both of your attentions back in the direction you came - south, from the staging area... Could they really have gotten that blasted door open? There are crates obscuring your view.

Jan 16, 2018 6:37 pm
OOC:
Its a Wookiee name, so it doesn't exactly have defined rules associated with it. Whenever anyone says it in a language that isn't Shriwook, they're just making an approximation with their voices, since other sentients can't pronounce the language at all.
Wrrock follows behind Tov, still breathing heavily from the partial beating and multiple stun blasts he had gotten just moments before. Thankfully the droid spoke without them having to dismantle the poor thing, but much like Tov herself, he was still in an incredibly foul mood.

"Right. We have to move." Nodding as he spoke in his growling voice, Wrrock starts running, hoping that his natural athleticism helps him and Tov outrun their pursuers. But would this path really be the correct one? There was one way to possibly find out. Reaching out with his mind, Wrrock tries calling forth the very same ability that he had relied on all his life... But the dark emotions boiling both within and without cloud him to the cosmic Force of Tython.

This day could hardly get any worse, could it?

Jan 17, 2018 5:13 pm
Tov and Wrrock set off following the R1's directions. You hear some initial hushed shouts behind you coming from the staging area, "Shhh! Listen for them!"... "No way! We gotta get out of here!", but you quickly leave them behind.

The pair turns up the second hallway on the left, and follow it for several dozen meters, there are marked doors but nothing to indicate a "Receiving Bay 4". They pass a couple more branching hallways and just about when they're about to re-evaluate, there is a large set of blast doors on the left marked with a '4'.

Though there is the occasional worker passing down halls or through doors, neither of you see any indication of Rossa or your Ryo charges. Then as things fall silent while you're evaluating the situation and what to do next, you hear - it's not quite a commotion, but - a distant jumbled stream of conversation echoing throughout the halls, many people talking over one another. You hurry over another 10 meters to a hallway branching right, and you see down at the end of it is Rossa and the Ryo Clan members engaged in some sort of conversation or argument with a Sullustan.

Just as you're about to head to them, someone shouts, "Hold it! Don't move!"... from the periphery of your vision you can see two people dressed in emergency response clothes with blasters leveled...
OOC:
The responders are at Medium Range, approaching slowly.

Rossa your attention is drawn to your comrades maybe 20 meters away when you hear the shouted commands. Clan Ryo has been simultaneously giving their information, and trying to file complaints with the sullustan.
Jan 18, 2018 5:46 pm
Tov whips around, hand on her blade, at the command. Her hand lets go amd she relaxes when she sees who it is.
"Good, you're here. We are Journeyers from the temple and have been charged with the safety of Clan Ryo here. Their arrival was met with...less then indifference." She says with a small huff of laughter at the nice way mentiined the mob just behind them. She takes some steps towards them, wanting to get closer to make soeaking easier. "Could you help us get them to where they need to be by keeping that angry mob at bay." Said more as a statement then a question. Hoping that will make her tone sound more official.
OOC:
Not sure what social skill to use here. There are many more in this game then DnD. She is not affraid of them and is not trying to persuade them, just hoping they will help. Negotiation? Leadership?
Looks like Charm is the best fit after reading the Social Interaction section. Will roll that.
OOC:
I'll let you roll the Difficulty dice.

OOC:
Are there other hallways leading from me in the same direction as the my comrades?
Rossa spots his friends and waves, when their heads whip to the side--at someone shouting.

He glances back to the Sullustan--just as the Ryo diplomat who wandered off steps forward. The Trandoshan strides toward them and leans into the Sullustan's ear. "Make sure she's honest with you. Wandered away from the group." He doesn't wait for an answer, but begins walking toward the hall, eyes on the alert.
Jan 22, 2018 1:08 am
Armed guards?! Well, still better than armed crazed rioters. He could only hope his fellow Journeyers back in the shop had not been seriously injured since their departure. Calmly removing the brass knuckles from his right fist and stashing them away in his satchel, the Wookiee looked at the raised rifles with some concern. His own wide frame wasn't one that elicited calm responses, even if he wasn't nearly as huge or muscled as some others of his kind.

"Glad to finally see some reasonable faces around here."
He glanced over towards Rossa, and gave the Trandoshan a nod. Good, at least he was alright! And the Ryo seemed to be with him.
OOC:
Wrrock is letting Tov take the lead, he knows he isn't too good at diffusing potentially hostile situations.

When Tov begins to advance on them they halt and shoulder their rifles tightly, she can see their fingers going inside the trigger-guards...

"I SAID DON'T MOVE!!", the responder screams.
OOC:
Result of the Dif roll here will determine how they respond in full...

I'll update this post with further IC after the roll.

Rossa there are a couple hallways that branch off of yours but just looking down them it's hard to tell if they connect in any fashion to the one Tov and Wrrock are in.

2 Advantage to spend Apex.
The responders seem confused by the stream of information Tov is throwing at them, but they seem to get the sense that there is more to the situation than appears. They relax the posture of their rifles slightly but still issue further commands, and continue approaching.
"You are in a restricted area! On your knees. Hands over your head.

Can those Advantage go toward the mob rushing in from behind the Responders. Maybe make my case foe me.
Jan 23, 2018 1:36 am
OOC:
Ha! Well, due to the facility layout, there's really no way the mob could get behind the responders. But you could have them show up essentially behind you and Wrrock :P Don't know if you view that as advantageous tho
Jan 23, 2018 10:06 pm
OOC:
I was wanting them to show up to distract and prove my point. The responders take care of the mob while we get Ryo out sort of thing. I would like that to happen though.

Are there any other ways out of here or is it just the mob, responders and the guy Rossa is dealing with?
Jan 24, 2018 2:54 am
OOC:
Heh, those are the three hallways, Responders (North), Sullustan/Rossa/Ryo (East), Mob (South). There is a big blast door labeled with the number 4 emblazoned on it too (West).

Does Tov or Wrrock get on their knees, and/or hands overhead?
Jan 25, 2018 8:51 pm
She throws her hands up. "Fine." Places them on her head and slowly kneels. "But we're not the enemies here."

emsquared sent a note to DM_Apexwolf
Coming down the hall towards his allies, Rossa sees the mirilan and wookie drop to their knees, hands overhead.

You all hear voices echoing up the hall before you see anything, "... I think we came from that way... here this way...", and then footsteps rounding the corner some 10 meters back.

Looking back over their shoulders Tov and Wrrock recognize two of the three people they'd skirmished with in the shop.

All parties spend just a couple of moments looking at everyone, looking at everyone else, everyone trying to figure out what's going on and what's going to happen next.

Then one of the responders shifts their aim to the mob members and shouts, "You there! DON'T MOVE!!", and begins advancing on them. The two from the mob, looking like bantha in a spotlight, turn and begin to run the way they came.

The remaining responder stays put, just a few meters from Tov and Wrrock, and reaches up to a comm fastened to his shoulder.
OOC:
If anyone is doing anything... aggressive, or counter to orders... please roll Initiative and we'll start structured gameplay.
Jan 27, 2018 5:52 pm
OOC:
Oh man. Decisions, decisions.
The thought of taking advantage of the destraction enters Tov's mind.
I answer to the Order not them. She looks to the blast doors. I could make it, no problem. Her head slowly turns to the last member of the mob group and the path to the friend she left behind. No. I am better than that. I know better. Tov stays kneeling hoping this cam be resolved with little violence.

OOC:
With the Mob south and the Responders North, I think that means I can creep along the hallway to the West without being seen by either?
The moment that his companions kneel, Rossa slows. He places his back against the North wall and slides along, one cautious step at a time. He gets close enough to talk, close enough to listen, but not--he thinks--close enough to be seen.

"What's happening? Ryo again?" he asks, a mere murmur after all the shouting in the hallway.
Feb 1, 2018 4:17 am
The sullustan keeps an eye on Rossa as he creeps down the hall, but is quite occupied with the flood of information coming at him from the Ryo Clan, and so doesn't follow.

The responder gets on his comm and says, "Central, send a unit to Receiving 5, o.t.d. 2 perps inbound, Unit 8 in pursuit. Send another unit to Bay 4. I have 2 perps in custody...", then he slides a pair of restraints at Tov which come to rest against her knee. "One end on your ankle, miss, the other goes on the wookie's. Got it? No sudden moves."

Speaking into his comm, he doesn't appear to have heard Rossa's words.
Feb 1, 2018 1:34 pm
"Tch... we really don't have time for this...!" grumbling under his breath as quietly as he can, Wrrock is just about ready to shove this responder's rifle where the sun would never reach it. His eyes only briefly glance in Rossa's direction - he was quite happy to see the Trandoshan show up.

"Security. Refusing to listen to reason. Get the Ryo back to their ship and inform the master, please. Allahn and the others are in danger." Whispering over to Rossa, Wrrock could only hope the security guard didn't notice - because if he did, he'd have to use the man's own rifle to bludgeon him unconscious.
OOC:
Wrrock is going to attempt to jump the guard if he notices or takes any actions against Rossa.
Feb 1, 2018 4:03 pm
OOC:
Thats a pretty lengthy response... I'll give Wrrock an Average Stealth check w/ a Setback for proximity, to avoid notice.

If Wrrock jumps him, it will be 1 Conflict.

For now the responder is sitting back to see that his orders are complied with.

Oh yeah I meant to ask, is this all still the same "encounter"? Since normally you roll Cool or Discipline (players choice) after each encounter without a difficulty to regain Strain. Want to make sure if this is all considered one huge encounter, or if we can regain some strain since we escaped the fight back in the shop.

With a firm nod, Rossa makes his way quietly down the passage toward the Sullustan. He creeps as much as he needs, but trusts the general commotion and the hallway's reverberation to cover what little noise his big feet make.

When he arrives back, he tells the Sullustan--"Are you almost finished? These Ryo are under my protection and, well, to protect them, we gotta go. Now."
Feb 2, 2018 3:24 pm
Slowly, as to not upset the security officer too much, Wrrock follows Tov's example and stands back up tall as well. While he certainly isn't a fan of using his impressive size - compared to normal humanoids, at least - he also knows that sometimes, its good to be two meters of thick fur, muscles and padded combat-ready armor.

"You have a comlink on you. Just call the frequency I can give you, and then maybe you can get back to doing your job as we get back to ours. Or do you really think your authority is greater than the temple's?" Together with Tov's display of their readiness and willingness to use the Force, the Wookiee takes the possibility of getting them all out of this mess at once.

"I will transmit you the location where we were attacked together with the frequency." Slowly pulling his comlink from his belt to show the officer that he wasn't going for his gun, Wrrock gives him a rather stern look that does not allow for much debate. "You'll send your backup there instead."

Silim, using Coercion here will cause 1 Conflict, as you're not really using it to avoid violence, indeed it could have caused violence. Knowing that, you may retcon your actions to avoid the Conflict, but assuming you don't retcon; here is what happens.

And also yea, knowing you both are willing to resist his commands warrants a Boost. I'll roll it, if you don't mind Silim to keep it moving.
The responder begins to back up a few steps, slowly, hesitantly, "I am the Temple's authority! And you are in violation of Civic Code I.31.a.(ii)... Who is your commanding officer? I... I will make that call.", despite the fear in his eyes, he has not lowered his weapon.
...
The sullustan glances past Rossa again as the trandoshan approaches, then to the trandoshan. "Yea... were done here. I will be reporting you all to the Temple authorities. This is a restricted area, and none of you have the proper authority."
OOC:
Will complete the narrative after Boost roll.

Ok, I'll use that Threat to have the Sullustan hear the responders shout of "I am the temples authority!" Devilish me >:D
Just as he is about to turn east, the sullustan overhears the last of the exchange down at the end of the hall to the west, and turns that way his large ears twitching, "Hm? If that's the Temple guard, we can just get this all done with now. Don't worry, it will likely just be a warning. Excuse me a moment, please wait here.", he starts walking toward the disturbance of Tov and Wrrock.

Feb 11, 2018 9:24 pm
"Friend." In a swift motion, the Trandoshan reaches and grips the Sullustan's boney shoulders. He squeezes his hands slightly, just a little, to get the tips of his sharp nails to scratch through the shirt. "I tell you, they're in danger, now. OOC:
Hey group!

Wanted to check in with everyone. Get your thoughts/feelings/input on a couple things!

I feel like this chapter has become a bit of a slog. So I'm guessing you guys do too. It's very nearly over - one way or the other, but I don't know if it's worth continuing to bog the story progress down to work it all thru IC.

I wanted this first challenge/chapter to focus on "soft" threats (targeting Strain, social challenges), which kind of necessitates a fast and heavy PvE approach on my part (so you can't pause to recover time and again), which has turned this into a slog. Apologies for that. So, to keep things moving Im proposing we take a vote:

1. Resolve the scene by resisting the sullustan/responder (you will not be deatained, you will escort Ryo to their ship, you will each earn 1 more Conflict).

2. Resolve the scene by allowing them to detain you (no Conflict, but will impact the story/plot in a different way).

Sound reasonable?

We'll earn some xp (which, please note, I award xp based on time in PBP, more than the standard "goals accomplished" method, targeting a minimum of ~150 xp earned per year, 10-15 xp per month, earning more if we get more done) - will be 40 xp for this chapter, move on to some downtime, and move on with the story.
Feb 16, 2018 9:06 pm
OOC:
I will be resisting. No detaining for me.
Feb 24, 2018 5:59 pm
OOC:
Well, I know Silim is out with an injury, but don't know where Zoom is. We'll move forward with RESIST!
As the three Journeyers resist, the Responder attempts to subdue them, but is overcome. The sullustan tries to help the responder for only a moment before fleeing the scene.

The exit from the service halls is just a few meters beyond where the sullustan stopped Rossa and Clan Ryo. The party emerges from the halls with their charges to passers-by whom are none the wiser to who they are. The Journeyers are able to proceed directly to the Ryo ship, and safety, a couple terminals down.

Ryo thanks the three for their diligence and competence, and declines to make any further excursions for the afternoon and evening, and the three Journeyers finish out their shift at watch uneventfully in the vestibule of the hangar to which Clan Ryo was assigned.
OOC:
Alright! Apex, and anyone else who's listening, that's 1 Conflict... and 40 xp!!

As a reminder of where everything stands:
1. You were asked to report to Master Genlah at the end of your shift.
2. You will have some downtime at the beginning of the next "session" to pursue any side interest(s) you may have.
3. Rossa caught one of the Clan Ryo people seemingly up to something in the terminal service halls.

Go ahead and spend your xp, roll for Morality, and then we'll wrap up this session.

You have several hours in Ryo's hangar if you want to talk amongst yourselves, or do anything else with that time. Post an IC narrative here to wrap up the session so I know when you're ready to move on. In the mean time I'll be looking into recruiting a new player (or two :P).
Feb 27, 2018 9:43 am
Tov finishes her shift not talking to the Ryo but getting to know her classmates more. She tells them of how she was born here and trained most of her life. She knew early on her fighting skills and has been expanding them ever since.
Feb 28, 2018 4:35 pm
OOC:
Are we all still here?
Feb 28, 2018 5:24 pm
OOC:
We'll keep moving forward, if you want to Apex, and either people will return or I will replace them.

At this time, we'll move on to downtime. What would Tov like to pursue in her free time?

A couple known options on the board:
1. Start crafting your blade.
2. Investigate what that Ryo member was doing when they had broken away from Rossa.

Other options would be exploring and learning more about the Temple, and/or the area surrounding the Temple.
Feb 28, 2018 11:08 pm
OOC:
Building the saber is priority one, but if time allows she will be working on her form and trying to perfect her style of fighting.
Moments between building and training could be used for simple knowledge of the temple but her field will be history of swordfighting and how it evolved.
Mar 1, 2018 4:43 am
After her shift as Ryo Guardian, Tov heads to the Journeyers quarters, sitting down at a holo-terminal to gather some info on the accommodations for beginning work on her blade. There is a large number of workstations available to Journeyers at any time of day or night, all you have to do is sign up for a time slot. A Temple craftsman is available during certain hours to assist anyone with their work who wants it. There are also templates, schematics and guidebooks available for the various types of weapons. Vur Tepe will provide the materials for your blade for free, however a crystal is only given for free to a Journeyer when they graduate to Ranger.
OOC:
So, basically anyone can get 2 Boost die for using a schematic and assistance from a craftsman. You can get a third Boost for working slowly and carefullly - essentially doubling the time it takes to complete the weapon. Lastly you can of course use the Destiny Pool as per normal.

You can roll now if you want, or wait until you have a crystal, whenever you want to roll you can do it in the IC thread here, but I'd suggest also making a new post in your character sheet thread to track time and so you don't have to come back searching through this thread later for roll results.
Some time in the middle of her first day at her workstation, Tov looks up to see Master Genlah.

"I saw on the holoreel... Quite the first day on the job?"
Mar 1, 2018 7:30 am
She stops working turns to the master and addresses him appropriately.
"Yes master. Not what I was expecting."
OOC:
I'll roll in the charatcer sheet thread.
Mar 1, 2018 3:20 pm
The Master nods soberly, "I knew Ryo had plenty of enemies, here at Vur Tepe ... or rather all over Tython... but I didn't expect that either. As I mentioned at the start, not even the Temple Master knew they were coming, and there was no public announcement of their arrival. Yet within hours of them setting down on planet, there is that kind of response?", he shakes his head, "I think that was Bogan. Ryo has done something, brought someone or something here, which has disrupted the balance of Tython..."
Mar 1, 2018 6:07 pm
"It would look that way, Master. With how quick of a reaction the public gave I wouldn't be surprised if there was a trator amongst the Ryo."
Mar 3, 2018 4:26 am
One journeyer, an energetic Nautolan, kept to himself practically glued to his table. The lights flickered for a minute, but the Nautolan did not notice. He was so engrossed in his work. His sword lay on the table and he was fiddling with some parts. He had gone and looked at many schematics and had almost memorized a few of them. While assistance from other craftsmen were available, the Nautolan did not ask their help. In fact, he forgot about them. So excited was he after looking over the schematics that he rushed over to a workstation and zoned everything out but himself and his sword. For hours and hours.

occ: Flasher will avail himself of the schematics and work slowly and methodically. He will not ask for any help though. So that's two boost I suppose.

Well shucks. No successes. But two advantage. I'm going to use them to make sure I actually have a sword. I don't want to have broken the sword by working on it. So maybe no force-imbued sword but it's not broken either.

Saber Mechanics Check

4 Advantage, 2 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 2 Failure, 2 Advantage

Mar 4, 2018 5:11 pm
OOC:
A few things Seb:
1. There is an OOC bbcode auto formatting "button" at the top of every post window (along with a bunch of other tools). Feel free to play around with those tools in the OOC thread if you'd like to familiarize yourself with them.
2. Please fill out the rest of you GP character sheet (Skills, Talents, Gear etc.). Don't forget to add an avatar, cuz you can attach that to all IC posts once the character sheet is approved.
3. Force-imbuing requires a crystal (just like an Lightsaber) and no check. This Mechanics check is to forge your blade like a smithy would. Pounding steel into shape. So unfortunately this failed check is a failure to have a functional weapon. I would allow you to spend those two Advantage to have "learned something" from this process, giving you a Boost on your next attempt OR to realize you've failed sooner and to take 2 days off of the attempt.
4.Crafting/forging your blade (which includes verything from wrapping the handle, detailing it with design, and sharpening it, etc.) takes 5 days minimum (6-8 hours a day), working carefully doubles that. So at the end of 10 days worth of downtime spent on this in-game you will not have a functional blade, but you still must spend 10 days of downtime working on it.
...

Master Genlah furrows his brow at Tov's words, "A traitor to Ryo among Ryo? It's possible, but the Masters could feel it, Bogan was strong that day. ... Regardless of the cause of the disturbance, we must escalate our approach to dealing with this Ryo diplomatic visit.

We must gather more information on why they are here. Or who or what they have brought with them. Whether they willingly divulge it to us or not... Do you understand? Perhaps try to gain the trust of one of the peripheral members of their contingent? The diplomats themselves would be skilled at dealing with counterintelligence efforts... But extract what knowledge you can in that fashion? Or if any of your detail are skilled with the holonet, probing their devices may reveal something? Or if we must, infiltrating their quarters and even their ship, to find out what we can...Wherever your abilities lie, we have to figure out what's going on.

Their stay is looking to be a protracted one, so there is no great urgency - you don't need to get it all done in your next shift. Build their trust, learn their vulnerabilities, and strike when the iron is hot. Yes?
", he looks pleased at his analogy given the setting and circumstance of their conversation.

"As Guardians you are the closest we will be able to get to them without intense scrutiny, so be careful, and be wise. You are the revealing fire of light, and the mystery of darkness. Immortal in the Force."

He lingers a moment to gauge Tov's reaction to his words, and see if she has any response.
Mar 5, 2018 3:45 am
OOC:
Ah. Righto. I did notice that OCC button after I posted.

I assume Flasher won't have an another chance at crafting a weapon at this place? If not, he could use his fists or a knife (which I will buy when I get that character sheet up. Hopefully tomorrow) and wait until we have another chance at downtime.

I will use the two advantage for a boost die on my next attempt at crafting a sword.
Mar 6, 2018 6:26 pm
She nods at her Master and gives a small smile at his analogy.
Yes, Master. I will do what I can but my skills lie in combat and swordsmenship, not covert operations."
Mar 6, 2018 7:36 pm
He nods, "Well, you will have fellow Journeyers with you again, different ones than last time, but with the same directive. And be mindful, specialization is for blood spites, if you aspire to be a Ranger one day, a Je'daii must be able to talk their way out of a tight situation, repair their own starship's engines, as well as wield their blade... We rarely have the luxury of choosing the predicaments we find ourselves in.

Do you have any other questions?

"No, Master." She bows and waits for Master Genlah to leave. "I guess I need to start learning what bonding tape is." She finsihes up her work on the blade for the day amd heads to her quaters to refresh and then open a machanics book, falling alseep two pages in.

A blue skinned Twi'lek female, dressed in black cloth straps, that leave nothing to the imagination, drumbs her fingers on the work table. Building a sabre was not her liking. As a matter if fact, fighting with weapons, in her eyes, was barbaric. The mind was much more dangerous. And in her case, her charming ways were down right murderous.

As a master and apprentice walked by she began to twirl the end of a lekku in her fingers. She was growing bored of this place. She needed something else to do. So at the sound of additional directives Safiya spun in her seat to address the question that three master posed.

"Yes," she stated matter-of-factly, "when can I join this band of misfits in their extended forays on this rock?" She spins in the seat and then leaps to her feet, gracefully landing next to the two passing by. "Word had spread of the adventure this one had yesterday, and i would be grateful to join them on their next," she pauses looking for the proper word. Finding none she ends the sentence wth, "adventure."

OOC:
So this scene is kind of a post-first-session downtime, TK.

Safiya gets to do something with her downtime too, and it doesn't have to be crafting a Force-imbued blade.

Would you like to do something else with it? Or would you like to start crafting her blade?

Well, she could craft a blade, but it's not really her thing. She'd likely be more inclined to find someone, or something to fight for her, like a droid. But she'll craft one, if the big wigs request it of her. "It's your rite of passage" speech.

Otherwise she'd likely spend her available time investing in forming a team. She's only known the life of a slave, so living a gangster lifestyle is all she knows. She needs to make connections. Find people who would work for her. Find ways to increase her wealth, so that she could amass power.

So if she's going to do anything now, , during the downtime,
She's going to invest it in such activities.

No one will request it of her.

Would you like to put together a narrative post describing specifically what she's doing? And then put together a roll to see if she achieves it? Sounds like a Streetwise to me. But I need to know specifically what she wants to achieve. Find Conmections? What sort of connection(s)?

Also, please be sure to read the IC resource threads (and at least the first few pages of this thread) to understand what is going on in-game.

Also also there's an OOC resource thread or two ("PbP basics") that will help you get in the groove of using the forum (like the auto-formatting buttons above every post window) and the system.

Also also also, you and Regerd both should be able to post as your PC now, using their name and their avatar. It's an option in a drop down menu above each post window. I would prefer you do this when positing IC.

Everyone: I will start the next chapter thread hopefully somrtime today. Standby! And thanks for hanging out while we onboard.

During her time on Tython Safiya spent the majority of her personal time - aside from her studies and other responsibilities - she strolls about the local vendors and business people introducing herself. She uses her charm to get in on their good graces. Any occasional free sample here, a choice item to wear there. Nothing ever with more than a few credits, but she'd spread the word about the "delicious morsels" or "elegant wears" of those venues. It was a way to make her name known, in hopes of gaining possible favors later.

((The way I see it, she's just looking to made friends. I see this more as a charm sort of thing, being that she's vying for their affection. Streetwise may tell her who she can trust, or who's showing her more fair than others. But really, all she's gong for right now is favorable interactions. If someone saw her walking by they'd know who she is, that sort of thing. It'll be a while before she could make her own gang. ))

And if you need protection that is all Tov is about. She is not much for charm. We may fit well together.

Once we're all formally introduced, I may just do that. Thanks!
