Episode 3

Nov 19, 2017 5:08 pm
The days pass and life slowly return to normal. The training of the town militia is following schedule, and while you cannot make top trained soldiers in a few days, they at least know which end to stick the goblins with should they try to attack again.

You have managed to build something resembling a barricade. Though with the tunnels underneath the town, you have begun looking into where they end up. There’s is an exit to the glassworks as well as the Hagfish. The owner, Jargie Quinn, is quite shocked at it’s existence and swears it must have been there before he took over 6 years ago. You are able to board up all the exits out of town. Mainly the beach and the forest east of town.

The books you found below the cathedral seems to be both historical texts dating back to old Thassilon as well as a journal. It was written by Ezakien Tobyn, the former priest.

He goes into the late unpleasantness. The most exciting thing in it is the fact that the town had a serial killer that they called Chopper, and it turned out to be Jervis Stoot a woodcarver. He couldn’t believe the friendly old man could do something so horrible, and he was sure the answer was somewhere in the old books.

He also adopted an aasimar by the name of Nualia. It was in fact she who discovered the secret entrance. In the last few entries.he mentions how she’s been behaving erratic lately and one day he came home to find her standing over a broken mirror, bloody cut on her hands.

Aery reverts into an academic it seems since loss of life or limb become less direct over the next few days and regales the rest with his discoveries over dinner quietly due to the subjects of discussion he brings up. He's curious about why there were tunnels in the first place and why they lead to the beach (Junk Beach now) and the forest to the east. He's also curious if the old man may have found something that 'turned' his mind to do the things he did or if there was a deep seeded reasoning behind them. The mention of the Aasimar came to mind as someone Aery wanted to question if they were around especially since the last entry made him wonder what she had seen in the mirror or if by chance she had inherited something dark from the former town serial killer.

Lighting a pipe Aery inquires to see what the others have been up to while he had spent time with his nose in books and thinking.

I'd like to read the books from Ezakien Tobyn, specifically his findings about the woodcarver Jervis Stoot, trying to read between the lines to see what could have influenced an old woodcarver to suddenly become a serial killer. If possible, I'd like to see where the woodcarver turned serial killer lived and investigate whether I can find any magical or religious sources as to his personality shift. Also, if the aasimar Nualia is still around, I'd like to talk to her, I want to talk to her and examine both the mirror and her residence.

Not being an academic sort Butler keeps himself useful by helping with the training of the town militia and helping out with some of the more physical work such as boarding up the exits.

Alaric is pleased with the progress of the training of the militia and the barricades we have managed to build. Sure, they may not stone cold stop an army, but they'll slow down a raiding band of goblins long enough to mount a proper defense. Alaric makes a point of working with the sentries to keep them alert while on patrol, having Jenna routinely test their defenses, especially at night and in the hours before daybreak, when it is most difficult for warriors to stay awake and alert. Jenna benefits from learning to stealthily slip past enemies while the militia learns to stay alert and keep better guard. After all, getting shown up by a little girl is embarrassing. (Extra motivation and hopefully keeps Jenna out of trouble).

Alaric also takes the militia on daily runs in full armor, getting them used to arming up quickly and becoming a mobile fighting force.

You are all coming down for breakfast one day when you notice the staff is stressing more than usual despite a low turnout.

The bartender comes over to you. "I am sorry, breakfast will be late today. Ameiko hasn't come in today."
Nov 27, 2017 3:05 pm
"Right well I want breakfast fast so lets go check out her place if she isn't there lets go see her grumpy old man... if I don't get a breakfast I think we should feed someone a knuckle sandwhich... mine are kind of small though so probably not very filling... someone with bigger hands will be serving them out." Aery states his face twitching slightly... "Don't people know you don't mess with a Halflings breakfast???" he mutters before going off to find out where Ameiko lays her head at night.

Hearing the problem, Alaric nods to Aery. Jenna and I will accompany you he says quietly. I'm confident that Butler can run the Militia training today.

Butler frowns for a moment "She could be in trouble. The militia will be fine on their own for a few hours." he says before quickly gathering his sword and shield

Is there some way that I can help your kitchen staff good sir? I can try to aid whomever is in charge of your kitchen in the interim and bless your food and drink if that's ok with you?. It may not make up for the shortcoming but hopefully it will aid in conciliating your guests.

Alaric beams happily at Butler. Excellent! We'll have most of the old gang back together again!

If you'd like we could retcon and say you made the scrolls in the week of downtime. Go ahead and roll for Seeker.

Sounds VERY good to me. Rolling for Seeker.

I'll take the threat as strain if that's ok?

You gather your inner strength and focuses on Ameiko. It takes only moment until you have a sense of direction to the north west. And not far, you get the feeling that she's only around 600 feet or so away. Which means she's still in town somewhere, but not anywhere near her sleeping quarters (which is in fact the inn itself, she sleeps in one of the rooms as long as it's not full. When it is, she has a small utility closet that can double as a bedroom in worst case).
OOC:
Sure, take 1 strain.

Well, I guess I'll tell the rest of the party and if they are all ready, I'm going in as straight a line as possible to her location. Oh, and I'm bringing some shovels and (hopefully) somebody who knows something about digging because my guess is, she's underground.
Dec 9, 2017 8:33 pm
Cool, I'll grab a shovel and go with you. Jenna, you up for going with us?
Dec 12, 2017 4:34 pm
Following Jimmy's directions with Jenna in tow you arrive at a big building that you recognize as the Sandpoint Glasswork. While the furnace chimney's still plumes with smoke it looks curiously silent. The front door to the shop area has a sign that says closed. All the windows have curtains drawn in front of them.
Dec 12, 2017 5:01 pm
Butler moves forward and tries the front door, looking around for anything untoward.
Dec 12, 2017 6:21 pm
"Well this looks as Shady as falling trees in a hurricane..." Aery mutters before he moves in behind the door opener (Ashdown) and to the side so he can peer inside as it opens.

OOC:
I feel like Tony the Tiger, and I didn't get my cornflakes.
OOC:
As in, this does NOT feel Greeeaaat.
Oh well, Let's do this. Alaric draws his rapiers and moves to guard Butler's side as soon as Butler goes through the door.
