Episode 3

Aery’s blast hits one of the goblins around Alaric.

Their beady eyes look in fear as Butler’s sword turns on fire. "Magicks! They have vile magicks." one complains.

Butler swings his sword in a wide arc, striking two goblins down dead and singing a third. The trained fighter that he is, he kicks the half-elf in the stomach, with a painful groan he stays down. Not going anywhere anytime soon.

A series of slashes from Alaric, slays goblins left and right, and leaves one singular goblin left in the group that attacked him.

The group attacking Butler, which has been reduced to two goblins tries to stab him, but he easily sidesteps.

The singular goblin left of the group attacking Alaric, makes a final stab before disengaging. Trying to attack any counter attacks, he trips in his own feet, falling face first down on his own sword.

With only a couple of goblins left, you make quick work of them. You are standing around the groaning half-elf.
OOC:
Alaric receives 7 damage.

The encounter is over, it is back in narrative time. You have a half-elf prisoner to question as well as sounds downstairs to check out.
Jan 21, 2018 3:14 am
"Right Alaric's wounded I can't do much for that beside give him a potion. Father what do you think? If we can get that one to talk it'll help but I'd like to know if you innkeep is getting dragged away below."
OOC:
I'm unsure how much was soaked out of the damage.
Jan 21, 2018 4:30 am
OOC:
My soak is 8, I'm wearing Iron Armor. Unless the damage bypassed it.
Well, friends! We survived another battle and have a prisoner to question... Which is fortunate, because there are a LOT of questions to be answered. I recommend that Aery question the prisoner, I doubt my skills would get anything out of him,
though I could skin him alive if he doesn't feel talkative. The more useful his answers are, the more skin he gets to keep. Probably better to explore other options first though.

Butler leans down and cleans his sword on a scrap of what used to be goblin clothing before resheathing it. He then moves to the half elf before disarming him of any weapons he can find "Perhaps our friend here can tell us something before he wakes" he says to the others as he starts a more thorough inspection of the half elf’s possessions.
OOC:
Throwing a disciple check out to recover some strain if we’re fully out of combat?

In his backpack, you are able to find a journal filled with drawings of Sandpoint, as well as erotic drawings of a woman.

You find the following passages as most interesting:

"The raid went about as planned. Few Thistletop goblins perished, and we were able to secure Tobyn’s casket with ease while the rubes were distracted by the rest. I can’t wait until the real raid. This town deserves a burning, that’s for sure."

"Ripnugget seems to favor the overwhelming land approach, but I don’t think it’s the best plan. We should get the quasit’s aid. Send her freaks up from below via the smuggling tunnel in my father’s Glassworks, and then invade from the river and from the
glassworks in smaller but more focused strikes. The rest except Bruthazmus agree, and I’m pretty sure the bugbear’s just being contrary to annoy me. My love’s too distracted with the lower chambers to make a decision. Says that once Malfeshnekor’s
released and under her command, we won’t need to worry about being subtle. I hope she’s right."

"My love seems bent on going through with it—nothing I can say convinces her of her beauty. She remains obsessed with removing what she calls her "celestial taint" and replacing it with her Mother’s grace. Burning her father’s remains at the Thistletop shrine seems to have started the transformation, but I can’t say her new hand is pleasing to me. Hopefully when she offers Sandpoint to Lamashtu’s fires, her new body won’t be as hideous. Maybe I’ll luck out. Succubi are demons too, aren’t they?"

Butlers eyes go wide as he reads the journal before a thoughtful look crosses his face as he passes the document onto his companions.
OOC:
Going to make a Knowledge: Demons And Monsters check to see what Butler knows about Lamashtu/Malfeshnekor - let me know if I need to tweak the difficulty

Added to previous post, net 1 Failures, 4 Threat and a Triumph - can the Triumph be to recall some general details about the ritual that referenced?

Aery scans the area pointed to and swears under his breath.

"Bind him we have a lady to find and a possible entrance to secure or booby trap... and who the hell is Tobyn?" Aery states his mind already speeding through ideas...

All this before breakfast. Tch. he thinks to himself shaking his head.

Jimmy crosses himself as he reads the document. This is grave news. We should consult with Father Zanthus and I need to meditate and pray.

Also a discipline check to recover strain

I'll hang with Aery and watch Aery's back. If Jimmy is going somewhere to meditate, I'll ask him to have Jenna meet up with us. She might as well watch Aery persuade our prisoner to talk, it could be a learning experience. Besides, with all of this weird stuff going on, I'd like to keep her close by.
OOC:
Scrath that. Jenna is with us already. My bad. On a side note, I thought Jimmy made some scrolls of regenerate? 1: can someone who isn't a priest use that scroll or does the scroll cost any strain for Jimmy to cast since he paid strain already? 2: does it just work as normal, with whoever is reading the scroll taking the strain? I'm not trying to pry, just curious about the mechanics and how that might play into our party strategy.

SelectiveAmnesia sent a note to mcneils5
You can recall the name Tobyn. It was the name of Father Zanthus' predecessor, and the one whose bones was stolen.

Good call, I forgot about the scrolls. SA was kind enough to retcon that I made them the previous week. I had planned on making 2 scrolls of regenerate for each of our party members, including Alarcs foster daughter (see I remembered). The cost and difficulty for me to cast regenerate is 2 Strain. It's a magic check with a difficulty of 2 purple dice. I'll pass out the scrolls now. Good question on the mechanics though. I haven't found a straightforward answer to the mechanics of someone else using a scroll I made.

The only recommendation I found on some forums was to have the person using the scroll pay the strain cost and make the same difficulty check and then the scroll crumbles into dust. But, that was on a forum so it's just someone's opinion.

We'll have to get SA's ruling on how to use scrolls.

OOC:
The rules don't actually say a lot about scrolls at all, but whoever reading it spending the strain and doing the check seems reasonable.
Jan 25, 2018 12:47 am
OOC:
That makes sense to me.
OOC:
Any of us using a scroll is probably going to be bad at it unless its Aery, but even then I think all of the healing spells are spirit checks, so we'll need to get lucky with our rolls. I don't know about you guys but I don't have anything in spirit, so you better cross your fingers for luck if the healer goes down and I'm fumbling around with a scroll :P

OOC:
Sorry. I've been busy. Also waiting for you to decide what to do. You have an unconscious half-elf lying on the ground and sounds from the basement. Should have posted something to prompt you again, but been busy at work and in my spare time last few weeks.
