Chapter 1: The First Hunt

Nov 21, 2017 3:57 pm
You're rushed into a nearby tent. The only thing you see is a tall black dragonborn with his back to you. His gold dragon leather armor is a stark contrast to his skin. The men who rushed you inside remain outside. Are you the best we could come up with? You don't have the looks of hunters, but I suppose it's my job to make you that way, isn't it? He turns around to face you. A deep scar crosses his face.
Nov 21, 2017 4:14 pm
The short, lithe gnome beams a smile, hands behind her waist. Lotus tilts her head to one side and leans in a pose of flattered embarrassment.
Nov 21, 2017 4:35 pm
Krenq bares his orcish underbite and fangs at the dragonborn, and growls lowly. He grabs the top of his head with his left hand, under his chin with his right, and makes a swift twisting motion with his head, an audible crack filling the tent. Krenq then looks down at the gnome and reveals a toothy, amused smile, patting the gnome on the head. He chuckles, having forgotten the chip he had on his shoulder from the previous moment.
Nov 21, 2017 5:27 pm
"I'm a lover not a fighter, perhaps we could talk about who will be making what over a bottle of wine?" Markus says winking to the dragonborn adjusting his elegant clothes and his rapier that seem to be incredibly in contrast with his muscular build.
Nov 22, 2017 6:29 am
"Hallo!" Brunhilde curtsies to the dragonborn who she can only assume is the director, and inclines her head at the others in the room, probably fellow cast members. "I'm so honored to be here!" The dwarf hefts her shield and axe, setting her fat jowls a-jiggling. "I must say I'm very impressed by these incredibly realistic props and costumes!" Her eyes widen as realization washes over her. Suddenly embarrassed, Brunhilde whispers to the gnome beside her, "Isn't this a company call? Is everyone in character already?"

Lotus stage whispers, "I think everyone is a character, yes."
Nov 22, 2017 7:07 am
Brunhilde nods. Oh my, what a horrible first impression I've made, messing up the opening scene! But I never received a script! I wasn't told this was improv! Well, there's nothing I can do but put my best foot forward and win them over! Brunhild strikes her most heroic pose: straight back, stance strong but feminine, dimple-backed hands gripping her weapon and shield with confidence, chins up and face held in profile. She takes half a step forward to catch the best available light. "I am ready." she intones in a well-modulated voice.
Nov 22, 2017 1:46 pm
Well, I suppose we need to see what you lot are capable of, yes? Follow me. The Dragonborn pushes past you and leads you to a make shift arena. The four of you will be taking on one opponent, you should be able to make quick work, no? He motions for you to enter.
Nov 22, 2017 2:13 pm
Krenq looks up, baring his fangs and smiling big, ready for a fight. He pulls out his greataxe and looks around for the combatant.
Nov 22, 2017 3:59 pm
Brunhilde prepares for the battle scene. Her voice rings out, a rich full-throated soprano battlecry
"Ho jo to ho!"

Lotus waits until Krenq and Brunhilde pass, then follows the dwarf. She clasps her hands behind her back and, on a whim, steps in the same footprints as trilling singer.
Nov 22, 2017 5:51 pm
"Well my abilities are more in the ways of seducing the opponent so I don't see how a man of peace like myself would make himself useful here..."

He says fumbling with his rapier and "accidentally" bumping into the dragonborn, who should feel lighter now that he has been relased of the annoying weight of his gold purse.

Before the Dragonborn reacts, Markus throws him his purse back, "Careful mister, you've dropped that."

"Now, let's go about besting this challenge eh? Teamwork? Now, as your leader, cunning strategist and handsome advisor, I think the big Guy there and our Glorious Maiden should charge whatever they throw at us while me and the little girl here go around it to flank... You stay behind me little girl, and try to kick it in the nuts."

Looks like that one is the comic relief. Brunhilde thinks, glancing at the flamboyant half-orc. I'm just glad he's not the romantic lead! "Glorious Maiden" yes, that's me!

Adjusting her horned helm she steps forward and comes abreast of the other half-orc, the brawny one. She sets her shield and raises her axe as her voice soars to a heroic refrain. "Ho yo to HOOO!!!"

My, that's a realistic looking giant wolf! These props are so impressive! I'm so lucky I landed this gig!

Nov 23, 2017 1:18 pm
OOC:
I don’t do much on critical misses. The only time it affects anything is with arrows/bolts and that just makes them unrecoverable after a battle.
The wolf’s teeth clamp down against Krenq’s shirt, inches from piercing the skin.

Markus aptly, (or rather inaptly) repositions himself to flank the wolf and cunningly makes a lunge aiming at the exposed nutsack.

"This is going to hurt you way more than it is going to hurt me..."

Markus positions himself behind the Dire Wolf and strikes his rapier towards the scrotum, only to realize this happens to be a female wolf. Instead, the sword finds its way into the underbelly of the wolf, slice her open. The wolf lets out one final howl before collapsing to the ground, bleeding heavily, dead.

Krenq belts an echoing roar!!!
Nov 28, 2017 6:48 am
As the director has now called "End scene" Brunhilde does not break character and continues to sing, extolling the prowess of the mighty heroes who slew the monster.
Nov 28, 2017 5:58 pm
I walk up to where my shirt was tattered, pick up the pieces, and pull out a stitching set to stitch the two large pieces together again. The gate where you entered opens and the dragonborn walks in. Glad to see at least two of you can fight. You'll need to for his job. Meet me in my tent. He then turns and walks away.
Nov 28, 2017 6:04 pm
"Did he say something?" Lotus asks, unable to hear the dragonborn over the dwarvish aria. Still, the body language seemed to indicate that the trial was over, so Lotus heads for the open gate.
Nov 28, 2017 6:20 pm
I turn my head back towards the group and say, Come! This sea dog be thirst'n fer more!
Nov 29, 2017 1:11 am
"As I said I am definitely, no fighter, I'm a lover, and you'be better be talking in coin should you want any further killing, as my loving talents don't come for free..."

Markus walks up to the dragonborn and says as he follows him down the gate.
Nov 29, 2017 8:07 am
Brunhilde ends her impromptu aria with a flourish as the end of scene is called. Dropping character as the rest of the cast begins returning to the production tent, she turns amiably to the gnome. "That went well, I think. I wish I could have landed a blow on the beast...I DID have some weapons training before I went into the entertainment biz...but all in all I think the miss added dramatic tension. Well, we'll find out what the director thinks soon enough." the dwarf extends a hand to the gnome "I'm Brunhilde."
Nov 29, 2017 3:58 pm
"I'm Lotus," says the gnome, answering the greeting with a shake of her hand. "The loud ones went out the door to follow the other guy. I think he wanted us to follow."
Nov 29, 2017 4:02 pm
As you re-enter the tent, the dragonborn is sitting in a chair at a table, facing the door. He motions for you all to join him.
Nov 29, 2017 4:36 pm
Markus enters the tent lookig for anything of value that could be easily taken from the tent.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+4)

(11) + 4 = 15

Nov 29, 2017 4:46 pm
Looking around, the tent is empty, except for a table, chairs, and a single chalice, on the table in front of the dragonborn.
Nov 29, 2017 4:51 pm
Lotus clasps her hands behind her back, passing between the half-orcs until she stands before the table. At the dragonborn's invitation, she pulls herself onto one of the chairs.
Nov 29, 2017 5:02 pm
Dissapointed by the cheapness of his surroundings Markus takes a moment to clean his chair before sitting.

"Will you finally tell us what the job, or are we here to drink some wine and chatter?"
Nov 29, 2017 5:48 pm
Brunhilde waits eagerly for the director's notes on their performance.
Dec 4, 2017 2:33 am
The Dragonborn speaks carefully and slowly. One of you asked about a reward, there will be done. As I mentioned before, that was a test and you at least proved capable. I’ll allow you to join on a trial basis. The Dragonborn takes a drink from his chalice. Questions?
Dec 4, 2017 7:02 am
Lotus swings her legs to and fro as she sits in the chair, easily clearing the floor. "Are they all like that?"
Dec 4, 2017 11:32 am
Trial? Oh my, the competition must be fierce! Brunhilde had hoped to breeze through this audition, but many details appear to have been overlooked and so she'd been unprepared. Ah well, it's better than being sent home. Be a professional. Best foot forward now. "Any notes for us? Was that the treatment you were looking for? Wasn't too Wagnerian?"
Dec 4, 2017 12:06 pm
The Dragonborn’s eyes move to Lotus. Hardly. Most things you’ll kill will be more... monstrous. His eyes then shift to Brunhilde Less singing
Dec 4, 2017 12:28 pm
Brunhilde is taken aback. Less singing?! Whatever could the director mean? Why else would she have been attached to this production if not.... Oh, does he mean to sing parlando, perhaps? But I am a dramatic soprano! What a waste it would be! No, such thoughts will never do! I will rise to this challenge! I can do this! Brunhilde nods her head enthusiastically.
Dec 4, 2017 4:12 pm
"Were we going to be split up?" Lotus asks.
Dec 4, 2017 4:37 pm
You are not being split. This will be your new group. Get to know each other, your lives depend on each other.
Dec 4, 2017 4:43 pm
"Okay!" says Lotus, swinging her legs again.
Dec 4, 2017 4:53 pm
"Wow, are we back in character already?" Brunhilde whispers to Lotus.
Dec 4, 2017 4:58 pm
Now, the four of you will be living in the same longhouse, Mynok will take you there. He points to the human standing just the door.
Dec 4, 2017 5:12 pm
Lotus slides off the chair. "If you like," she says to Brunhilde. "Oh wait, is that it?" she adds, glancing to the half-orcs.
Dec 4, 2017 9:19 pm
I walk up to the human Mynok, look him up and down, and then I wait, following him wherever he takes us.
Dec 6, 2017 3:50 pm
"So I get to hang out with these guys and you get to pay us? How handsomely are we going to get paid?
Dec 6, 2017 4:02 pm
You will get a percentage of payment based off of the assignment, in addition to any extra gear and such you find.
Dec 6, 2017 4:21 pm
"You never told us the assignment other than waiting... and if waiting is the assignment, how much are we getting for that?"
Dec 6, 2017 4:44 pm
Sleep for now. In the morning, you will come see me. Your assignment will be given then.
Dec 6, 2017 4:48 pm
Lotus leaves the haggling half-orc and walks over to Mynok. "Do we have rooms?" she asks.
Dec 6, 2017 4:51 pm
Mynok nods and leads you to a wooden longhouse. Four beds, each individual and a common area.
Dec 6, 2017 4:54 pm
"Okay!" says Lotus, claiming one of the beds.
Dec 6, 2017 5:16 pm
Markus takes the bed farthest from the exit.

"So, we are now a team. I am Markus. I used to be an enforcer for the local Guild, put their pay rate was quite a steal."
Dec 6, 2017 5:23 pm
"Do we have to pay you?" asks Lotus, her tone and wide smile belying either a serious question or sarcasm.
Dec 6, 2017 5:48 pm
"Depends on the deed you want done. It is all about negotiating and haggling, but I can find buyers for any loot you may acummulate and might want to part with, I shall only ask for a modest trader fee of 25% of the sale price..."
Dec 6, 2017 6:58 pm
Krenq grunts at the pair discussing things, goes to his bunk, and begins sleeping. Snoring can be heard through his door into the common room.
Dec 7, 2017 12:25 am
It seems no one is dropping character. Method actors! Brunhilde has heard of those. What professionals! She decides she will stay in character as well. Humming a tune to herdelf, she lays down her horned helm and looks through her backpack of incredibly authentic props.
Dec 7, 2017 3:55 am
The night comes and goes with little activity. Slight noises could be heard outside if anyone listened hard enough but nothing one would consider out of the ordinary. Just as the sun begins to crest the horizon, the door to the long-house door opens. Mynok’s voice rings through Everbody awake. Time for your morning meeting. You have 30 minutes to be back at Chief’s tent.
Dec 7, 2017 4:06 am
I yawn, then get out of bed, ready for carnage. I sharpen my axe and the tips of my tusks.
Dec 7, 2017 4:50 am
30 minutes! Not nearly enough time for hair and makeup! Ah what am I thinking, I'm supposed to be method acting! Warrior women have no time to get dolled up! Brunhilde rises, washes her face, and heads out ready for anything.
Dec 7, 2017 5:37 am
Lotus stretches, still adjusting to the new bed. She spends five minutes reorienting herself while sitting upright, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. Not fully awake, Lotus takes another five minutes to fumble into her clothes, and doesn't bother putting up her hair before stepping out of her room with a blanket wrapped around her for extra warmth.

She shuffles her feet audibly on the floor as she makes her way to the designated tent.
Dec 7, 2017 9:57 am
Markus puts on his meticulously folded clothes adjusting the collar of his sleeved shirt before donning the armor he makes sure that his blade is clean once more before moving out to the chef's tent. "I wonder why they want us on the chef's tent, there must be some really pressing culinary issue for us to sort out."
Dec 7, 2017 3:04 pm
As you all walk outside, Mynok is waiting for you. This way. He moves quickly, but not rushed. As you move through the town, you notice that it seems to be a very basic military town. Their are smiths hammering, merchants setting up their wares, people stumbling out of the tavern, men and women buttoning up clothes as they exit the brothel, and many people walking around in armor and weapons. Mynok leads you back to the tent you were in the day before and holds the door open for you. In you go. As you enter, the interior has changed yet again. This time, there are 4 benches facing the far side of the tent with a suspended map and the Dragonborn standing next to it, holding a small dagger. Come, come, sit, sit. the dragonborn bellows.
Dec 7, 2017 4:10 pm
Lotus sits on the nearest bench, still wrapped in her blanket. She yawns loudly, pulls her legs underneath herself, and tries in vain to hold her head up.
Dec 7, 2017 4:25 pm
Markus analyses the map to trying to discern if he is familiar with the terrain, but obviously not expecting to recognize anything since he has never been much of a wilderness explorer. He also scans the room for valuables including seeing if the dagger the dragonborn is weilding is richly decorated or just a simple dagger.

"Well That's an improvement."

The room is bare, except for the previously mentioned items. The map is simple. It labels the town you are in, Easthaven, and a town to the West, Oxborn. There is a path drawn from your location to the new location.
Dec 7, 2017 10:49 pm
What do we hunt in that there town?
Dec 11, 2017 3:17 pm
That's a complicated question. They are the most attacked town in the Grassland. Monsters vary from Kobolds to Orcs to Wyvern. Usually the town guard is more than capable, but lately more and more people have been disappearing and they can't figure out why. Your job will be to investigate and take care of the problem if possible. If you would like, I can send Mynok with you, although that is completely up to you.
Dec 11, 2017 5:21 pm
A smile shows itself through my tusks. Wha' will he brin' t' th' table?
Dec 11, 2017 5:25 pm
He's a very capable arcane magic user, something you lot seem to be missing. He also knows the land and the people. On the downside, if things get physical, he's not much help.
Dec 11, 2017 5:43 pm
Lotus has her head down, apparently listening intently to the conversation. Her attention is so en pointe, not even the barest of snores can be heard.
Dec 11, 2017 7:45 pm
Bring 'im. We'd be daft not to bring along a mage.
Dec 12, 2017 5:25 pm
Any other questions before you leave? the Dragonborn asks, turning back towards the map.
Dec 12, 2017 5:40 pm
Lotus makes no indication of having questions, hunched over on the bench cross-legged with her blanket wrapped around her body.
Dec 12, 2017 6:45 pm
"How much are we getting paid for the job?
Will you be providing weapons, gear and means of transport?
Will you be paying us in advance so that we may provide for the former in case of it being negative?
Do we need to split any loot we find with Mynok?
If Mynok happened to die would it be discounted from our earnings?"

Markus asks the questions everyone should be asking, and his body language stating that he will resort to haggling if the need arises to walk out of the room with enough coin for supplies and equipment.
Dec 12, 2017 7:18 pm
What ever supplies you currently have will suffice for this mission. You will get paid upon completion of the assignment. Standard payment for a job such as this is 100 gold a piece. If Mynok dies, then he dies. He knows the risks. As for loot, that's a discussion to have with him, not me.
Dec 12, 2017 9:43 pm
I shake my head at Markus. Ye have nuf worry fer the lot'v us. Do not worry, and let's be hunt'n'!

From my belt pouch I pull out some chalky red paint, pat my hands together, and put both hands on the top of my head, and lightly scratch down the surface of my face and head, etching the red paint along with it. It looks like I have massive open gashes on my face.
Dec 15, 2017 2:29 pm
Off with you then. Daylight is wasting. Should take a day and a half or so by cart. Mynok will show you the way.

As you leave, Mynok greets you. So, will I be leaving with you folks or am I to get a new assignment from chief?
Dec 15, 2017 3:59 pm
Lotus straightens with a jolt. She takes a look around, then slides off the bench to follow the others over to Mynok.
Dec 15, 2017 9:32 pm
Ye b'comin' on de hunt!
Dec 18, 2017 1:41 pm
Brunhilde hums to herself as the troupe prepares to head out.
Dec 19, 2017 3:10 pm
Then let us go to the cart, if everyone is ready. Mynok leads the way the the front of town, where a simple cart, just big enough for all of you, awaits, attached to two large horses. Mynok climbs up onto the cart and sits. The horses know the way. We will just have to stop them at night fall to make camp.
Dec 19, 2017 3:48 pm
I hop into the cart, ready to go.
Dec 19, 2017 3:50 pm
Brunhilde parks her considerable girth next to Mynok. She wonders if she should try the ride standing up - that would certainly paint a much more heroic picture - but she decides not to risk falling off the cart.
Dec 19, 2017 4:10 pm
Lotus yawns, standing next to the wagon. "Where we going? Do we need our packs?"
Dec 28, 2017 2:53 am
If you’d wake up and pay attention, you’d know. The Dragonborn grumbled at Lotus.
Dec 28, 2017 4:45 pm
Lotus looks at the cart, back at the barracks, and to the cart again. Finally coming to a decision, she briefly departs to trade her blanket for her traveling gear.
Jan 4, 2018 8:17 pm
After everyone is loaded up into the cart, the horses begin moving. The day is uneventful and soon the sun begins to set. Well, we better stop and make camp. We need someone to gather firewood and then I'll start a fire. Everyone else needs to set up camp. Mynok says, pointedly.
Jan 4, 2018 9:01 pm
Lotus spent much of her time riding in the cart, as her stride would be outpaced by the horses. Wordlessly, she begins the task of setting up camp.
Jan 4, 2018 11:12 pm
Krenq hops out and begins making camp. I aim t' take first watch tonight.
Jan 8, 2018 5:59 pm
Everyone builds their camp area, fire is started, and everyone is sitting around. Krenq has volunteered for first watch, and I'd like last, who's going to take the other 2 shifts and who gets to sleep through? Mynok inquires.
Jan 8, 2018 6:43 pm
"I will take second watch." Brunhilde offers. There goes my beauty sleep! she thinks to herself.
Jan 8, 2018 8:16 pm
Lotus raises her hand, sitting cross-legged. "I'll take the third watch," she says.
Jan 11, 2018 3:38 pm
Well, Markus, seems like you're the lucky one that gets a full night's sleep. Shift is 2 hours. Any questions? Mykos asks, before retreating to his bedroll.
Jan 11, 2018 5:08 pm
"Yeah, where were we going, again?" Lotus asks. She doesn't seem fazed by the lack of recall, and if their task of investigating Oxborn is explained, the gnome just nods and bundles up in her bedroll to get some sleep.

Mynok had last watch. Does that mean it's morning?
Jan 21, 2018 4:06 am
The sun begins rising as the camp stirs. Mynok notices a thick smoke coming from the direction you’re traveling. Mynok frowns and points the smoke out to everyone. I hope that isn’t Oxborn.... Mynok packs up his gear and tosses it in the wagon.
Jan 21, 2018 6:08 am
Krenq finishes sharpening his teeth for the morning, then helps Mynok pack up. I ‘as hopin’ to buy some wares in the nextown. When do we reach it?
Jan 21, 2018 3:03 pm
If we move quickly and have no trouble, we should get there by days end. Mynok responds.
Jan 21, 2018 6:17 pm
Lotus says nothing about the smoke, but her expression turns rather serious as the realization settles in that they're nearing potential trouble.

"I didn't see anything."

Thar halfie didn't sit well with me. Good riddance!

"You didn't mention anything about being a vampire," says Lotus, throwing her lighter-than-normal pack onto the wagon.
Feb 1, 2018 3:55 pm
With everyone loaded in the wagon, it begins its travel. The longer you travel, the thicker the smoke gets. You begin hearing screams coming from an unknown direction and slow, breathy sounds.

Krenq says, There be sulphur in the air. And blood...
Feb 1, 2018 4:46 pm
"Again with the blood," Lotus comments. "Just so you know, I kinda need mine, so don't get any bright ideas."
Feb 1, 2018 5:17 pm
Brunhilde is scared for some inexplicable reason. It's all props and special effects, right? Why is her heart beating so hard in her chest?
Feb 1, 2018 5:31 pm
Suddenly the cart jolts to a stop. Everyone hears the sound of a distressed horse neighing. The horse seems to rise up into the air and the neighing gets farther and farther away.

Mynok points his finger towards the front of the cart and whispers something unintelligible. A small gust of wind blows some smoke away. "Well, it seems our horses are no longer here. We might as well unload. Everybody be ready for whatever is out there."
Feb 1, 2018 5:52 pm
Lotus hops out of the cart and stands to its side. She tries to mimic Mynok's gesture to feebly fan the smoke away.

Feb 1, 2018 6:15 pm
"So now the vampire has disappeared, too," Lotus says. "Folks are just dropping left and right, huh?"
Feb 2, 2018 3:34 pm
As Krenq runs, the breathy sounds get louder and the slightest sounds of what sounds like flapping wings can be heard.

Mynok yells at Krenq Don't go running off, we don't know what is happening! It's best to circle the wagon, literally!
Feb 2, 2018 4:26 pm
ARGH LITTLE SQUISHY MAN! FINE, I COMIN' ROUND! Krenq runs back to the wagon.

Everyone except Krenq manages to struggling seeing. Luckily Krenq manages to make it though and everyone is able to see him. After moving slowly and following Krenq, the party manages to move through the smoke until it suddenly ends. In front of you know is a fallen city, burned and charred. People stand everywhere, crying and yelling.

A man approaches Mynok. You're too late. Mynok. The feared attack happened. Our city is destroyed.

Without saying a word, Mynok wanders into the city, a look of shock on his face. He stops in front of a burnt, collapsed house and falls to his knees, head down.

Mynok looks up at Krenq, eyes full of tears. This was my childhood home. The house of my parents and my sister. It's gone. Suddenly, as though he realized what he just said, Mynok jumps up and runs to the man that approached him. Mayor Thom, my family?

Mayor Thom looks at him, solemnly. I'm sorry my boy, they are dead.

Mynok falls back to his knees.

Brunhilde sings a stirring lament for Mynok's people.
Mar 6, 2018 5:58 pm
Unfortunately my large friend I could not tell you who led them. It was a small army of various monsters. Mephits, goblins, trolls. Though the one that did all of this fire damage was an elemental. But they all seem single minded in their goal, so they had to have a leader. If you want to find them, I can only suggest seeking out a the small band of goblins that live to the North of here. We've had issues with them over the years but never like this. They may know who did this.

The haunting melody changes tune to one of inspiration and triumph and out of the crowd steps a slim woman of clearly, yet not fully, elven descent. She seems to be looking for someone or something. She finishes her song and approaches the group.
Hello. You guys look capable. My name's Lena and these people need our help.
Mar 7, 2018 3:25 am
’can use another killer. By which name ‘r ye called?
Mar 7, 2018 5:06 am
"She said 'Lena,'" interjects the gnome. "I'm Lotus. Sorry, the vampire hasn't had any blood, so he's kinda hard of hearing. We're with the White Sword." Lotus' tone belies slight sarcasm, tinged with actual belief that Krenq is a bloodsucker.
Mar 7, 2018 5:55 am
Krenq walks up menacingly to the gnome, then crouches down next to her, bares his teeth near her neck, and says, Krenq ‘sa bit tharsty. Tho yer a bit small fer me, I could use the refreshment.

He then stands up, chuckling about the thought of the gnome’s face when he decides to drink the blood of his next foe in front of her, just to get a rise out of her. He snaps out of it, focusing on the task at hand. What do ya bring to our crew, Miss Lena?
Mar 7, 2018 8:24 am
I'm not much of a killer Lena says softly But I play this very well, she says and her countenance brightens considerably as she brandishes her beautiful jade flute.

If you are capable, then you are welcome for now. You need to go to these goblins. Right now this is not a killing mission, we just need information. I need to stay here and help the town pull itself together. After you talk to the goblins, come back and relay the what ever they say and we can make a course of action. He looks at Lotus. For the moment, you are in charge. I urge to to please follow his suggestions at my behest. Any more questions?

Mar 7, 2018 11:21 pm
Lena nods and follows.
Mar 8, 2018 12:30 am
You make your way north across the plains after about a half days travel, you top a hill. Once on top of the hill, you spy and encampment on the edge of the forest. From here, you can see about 10 little huts and tents and various figures moving about in a rush. From here, you’re about 1000’ away.
Mar 8, 2018 3:09 am
"All right. I guess we'll just walk in and ask to speak with them," says Lotus. "We'll see who they take their orders from, I guess."

Lena, can ye communicate with the goblins, see if Ghurlq has someone who knows Common so I c'n hunt these monsters with 'em?

"Who's Ghurlq?" says Lotus, then shakes her head and waves both hands. "Wait, that's beside the point. Okay, I guess we'll head back and report to the representative of the White Sword, the very group that conscripted us, as requested. If you're still alive, we'll see if we can find you."
Mar 14, 2018 12:42 am
Lena turns to Krenq I don't think that's a good idea. Although these goblins have been very helpful, we aren't friends. If they understood that you plan to hunt the creatures alone they may even decide to hunt you! I think it's best that we stick together. We are a small band and our quarry is a large raiding party. She wasn't present for the previous roll, so you'd have to roll again to intimidate her, but if you want to ask the bartender, she'll tell you what she can as long as her boss isn't present.

Okay, makes sense.
Krenq makes a scary glance towards Gloria, then walks past her and finds a seat at the bar. He says, two ales for me.

Apr 20, 2018 8:12 pm
We'll be playing some games in about 30 minutes.
Apr 21, 2018 6:41 am
Keene gulps one down quickly, then raises the glass to Gloria, baring his fangs. He then looks to the barkeep in a menacing manner. He asks, ya recognize me?
Apr 21, 2018 11:00 am

Lena finds a quiet corner of the bar, takes out her flute and begins to play soft, vulnerable notes.

"Circus? I don't..." Brunhilde rubs her temple, confused. "Are we sill in scene? I hope we're not still in scene. It's been what, two days and I have never seen a script nor heard from the Director. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a diva, but I have serious concerns about the work environment here. May I speak with the Production Manager please?"
Apr 23, 2018 1:18 pm
@Krenq You specifically, no. I recognize rumors about someone fitting your description. Not good things, either. I trust you will mind yourself while here.

@Lena Roll performance

@Brunhilde One of the bartenders approaches you. "Where do you think you are, child?"
Apr 23, 2018 3:35 pm
"'Child?!' Why thank you, darling!" Brunhilde laughs. "To be completely honest I'm starting to think there's been a huge misunderstanding. I thought I was joining a theatrical production." The dwarf actress glances over in Lotus' direction. "That was an audition, wasn't it? And then we've been doing improv since then?"

Krenq says to the barkeep, Heh, s'long as the drinks keep flowin', I'll be a good boy. He downs the second ale, then pushes both mugs towards the barkeep.
Apr 23, 2018 5:07 pm
Lotus gathers an oversized (for her) mug in both hands and looks at Brunhilde. "Well," she begins, hesitantly, "we were auditioning, in a sense. We were being tested to see if we had the talent for hunting monsters."

She thinks about it some more. "And yeah, we've been basically making things up as we go, I guess."
Apr 23, 2018 5:12 pm
"Actors." Brunhilde says wearily. "We're all actors, right? I'm an actress, not a real warrior. It's a performance, right?" Deep inside Brunhilde already knows the answer. There's been a terrible (or hilarious, depending on one's viewpoint) mixup.
Apr 23, 2018 5:47 pm
Krenq, annoyed by the dwarven diva, throws one of his empty mugs at her. Quit'cher belly-achin'! We don't want no part of yo' tight-ass actin' bit, ya freak bitch! Get outa here! We don'want'cha here, enyweys.

"What the hells is wrong with you?" Lotus snaps at Krenq. "She's held her own ever since that wolf pit. You got no right to call her that!"
Apr 23, 2018 5:57 pm
Back off, tiny, lest ye wanna get smashed. I've had 'bout 'nuff o' yu.
Apr 23, 2018 6:07 pm
Lotus stands on the bar stool. "I will not back off! So what if she thought we were actors? That don't mean you can call her a freak and say we don't want her!"
Apr 23, 2018 6:11 pm
After narrowly dodging the thrown mug Brunhilde leaps to her feet. All her chins quivering, she stares Krenq down. "Real warrior or not, I'm a dwarf through and through and a dwarf will not take shit from anyone. It's true, I don't belong here, but it seems neither do you, you ill-mannered lout!"

A deep breath to calm herself, and Brunhilde turns to Lotus and Lena "I'm sorry if I've caused you any trouble, dears. It seems this is where we part ways. Best of luck to the both of you."

While all of this is going down, the lights suddenly go out. A spotlight appears, pointing to the back of the tavern. Gloria appears in the light. Ladies and Gentlemen. Boys and Girls. Freaks and Followers! It's time for some games! This first game will be a drinking contest. Do we have any volunteers?
Apr 23, 2018 6:47 pm
Krenq stands, not tripping off of the dwarven diva. Walk away, freak. I never want to see you again.

He raises his hand and looks towards Gloria and says, I be down for a few free drinks!

Flute Solo - (1D20+6)

(18) + 6 = 24

Apr 24, 2018 1:14 pm
As Lena plays her music beautifully, several people set a few gold coins next to her.

Krenq makes his way to the stage, as do a few others. Gloria smiles at everyone. Here's how this works, there are 10 competitors, everyone contributes 1 gold and winner takes all? Any questions?
Apr 24, 2018 4:29 pm
Yeah! Where's my drink? Krenq slaps a gold coin on the table, thumping it, causing a reverberation throughout the hall. He keeps his hand on the coin until the drink comes.
Apr 24, 2018 4:38 pm
Lotus takes the distraction to run up to Brunhilde. "Hey, listen," she says. "Sorry about the whole thing. If you think it's best you leave, I won't stop you. But know that even if you think you aren't a warrior, you got more in ya than that loudmouth over there." With a grin, she raps her knuckles upon the dwarf's. "'Sides, anyone who's smart enough knows that show business is killer."

The gnome smiles the entire time, and watches the dwarf depart. Then, like a deflating balloon, Lotus slinks back to the bar to nurse her sadness.

With this third round of drinks, competitors 1 and 7 fall almost immediately. Krenq seems to be fine, then suddenly falls over out of his chair.

Gloria smiles. Looks like none of our competitors succeed this evening. She then walks by the table and pockets all 11 coins.

Krenq's unconscious body is dragged over to where Lotus and Lena are.
Apr 24, 2018 6:12 pm
"I guess we'll be waiting out the storm, after all," Lotus says, giving a mild glance at Krenq on the floor.

Pretty please, Bigdogg1990. :)
Apr 25, 2018 2:09 pm
@Lena They left you with 5 GP.
OOC:
I will allow the inspiration. If this were a table game, you would have used it in time, so I will allow it. However, Krenq is still going to be incredibly drunk. Ignore the previous post about the contest and read here.
Krenq drinks half of his ale and begins to falter, but then his new friend begins to cheer for him, inspiring the crowd. Krenq feels inspired by this cheering and chugs the rest of the ale, then slams the glass down, a little harder than intended, smashing a hole through the table.

Gloria smiles. Let's give it up to our winner! She then hands you the 11 GP that you won. Now, give us just a few minutes to get set up for our next event.
Apr 25, 2018 3:54 pm
Krenq sways back...and forth..., then steels himself and collects his coin.
OOC:
Thank you, Bigdogg1990.
Krenq walks towards his companions and says, I...tttthhhhink w'ought t'spend tha night. My treat. He slaps the table with a couple of gold coins and tells Lotus, Perhaps I be more than just a loudmouth, considerin' i saved yer ass a time er two while ye were rubbin' sleep from yer eyes, lass. Bwuahahahahaha! Krenq erupts in laughter and slaps her back a little harder than he may have intended.
Apr 25, 2018 4:15 pm
"I was still awake and alert," Lotus grumbles, though without any assertion. She winces as she rolls her back to try and work out the recently-acquired pain.
Apr 26, 2018 1:51 pm
After several more moments, the lights go off and then the spotlight comes back on. Gloria is again in the light. And now, for our next event, knife throwing! The winner of this will be getting a very special magical item, made by our very own artificer and not available anywhere else! Any takers?
Apr 26, 2018 2:06 pm
Oh oh. Me me me me me! Lena cries out raising her hand enthusiastically.
Apr 26, 2018 3:42 pm
Krenq also raises his hand, shakes his head, stands, and says, I'll have a go!
Apr 26, 2018 4:09 pm
Lotus drains her mug and slaps it down on the table. "Sure, why not," she mutters rhetorically, and stands to join.
Apr 26, 2018 4:41 pm
The three of you, as well as three other competitors make your way to the stage. There are six rows, each with one knife on each table. about 20' from you are number targets of varying sizes, 1-10.

Each round, each competitor will declare what number target they will aim for. If you miss your target, you are out. If everyone hits their target, lowest score is out. We play until one person or no person remains. Questions?
Apr 26, 2018 4:47 pm
"Doesn't matter which target, then?" Lotus asks, but she seems ready to go regardless of the answer.
Apr 26, 2018 4:59 pm
OOC:
Can you mechanically explain how the game will work?
Apr 27, 2018 1:26 pm
OOC:
You will pick a target, 1-10. The higher the point value, the higher the DC. You will then make a ranged attack with the dagger. If you roll the DC or higher, you move on.
Apr 27, 2018 1:35 pm
Lena will throw a dagger at target number 6.

May 4, 2018 3:43 pm
Lotus laughs. She is clearly enjoying the game, and relishing the opportunities to continually participate. "Aw, no prizes?" she says, even as she winds up to throw. She alternates her throws between her left and right hands.

GLoria smiles big and walks up to Lena. We have a winner, with 3 hit targets. Let's give her a cheer! The tent goes crazy. Gloria then hands you what appears to be a simple looking rod. Here is your very powerful magic item. Remember, looks aren't what metters, merely what is on the inside!
May 7, 2018 4:04 pm
Krenq yells in the hall! YYYEEEESSSS! I KNOW HER! HAHAHAHAHA!!! He claps very boisterously in the crowd.
May 7, 2018 4:38 pm
Lotus cheers. "Nice throw!" she says, adding to the applause.
May 7, 2018 10:17 pm
I won! I won! Thank you thank you everyone. I love you all! Lena takes a bow and seems to be really enjoying the attention. Then she walks up to Lotus and hugs her.

May 8, 2018 1:58 pm
Lena's rapier and dagger fly towards the apple, quickly followed by her money bag, silver headband, belt, signet ring, sequens from her dress and an ornamental silver hand mirror. Lena lets out an embarrassed squeak as she rushes over to retrieve her items. Then she sets about fixing her appearance as best she can.
May 8, 2018 2:05 pm
Krenq, excited by the looks of that item, goes up to Gloria: Any other games ye be playin'?
May 8, 2018 2:12 pm
And that is just one of many tricks that little item can do. That is all of the games for this evening. It is time for sleep everyone! We will be moving in the morning.

Unfortunately, hunny, my duties put me elsewhere.
May 8, 2018 4:03 pm
Lotus looks for a spare room to sleep in, content to spend the night in relative comfort. Hopefully the storm outside will have passed.
May 8, 2018 4:23 pm
As Lotus goes up the stairs, the top leads to a door. Opening the door reveals a large, plush room with no one in it, despite the fact you saw maybe 10 people come up the stairs before you.

Lotus thinks little of the oddity, and finds a comfortable spot to settle in and relax.
