Time passes. Perhaps more than a minute but less than two. Not long by the normal awareness of the passage of time, but here it seems like an eternity of delay.

Bryn continues to study the chains and the room itself, with appearance that he is reading and contemplating things that others cannot see at all.

DMJ sent a note to Oxbox
Kray, Ryhim, Iasu, and Bull Maeriks wait ready for anything as The Irons continue to rattle, the golden doors of the vault open to full extension perpendicular to the wall, and the buzzing flying edimmu send chatter and shouts down from the shadows overhead.

Thorn is trapped on the other side of the chain barrier at the entryway, but he can see through the spaces between the chains. He keeps his head on a swivel, watching both into The Pit chamber but also up the ascending natural tunnel that climbs back to The Séance room.

The long pillar-like groupings of chains that extend deepest into The Pit, shake and clang against one another as something – multiple things perhaps – climb upwards.

Thorn hears a harrowing screech coming from the ascending tunnel, like a primal shriek of some beast, either frightened or enraged.
Apr 2, 2019 2:31 pm
Suddenly a set of Irons reach inward into The Vault. It is impossible to see around the obstruction of the close half of the Golden Door of Kings that extends out over The Pitt to block line of sight from the west floor position, but to everyone’s surprise Elam emerges within seconds, carried by The Irons!

He appears unharmed. The chains are hooked onto large metal eyelets that are strapped onto an elaborate body harness that everyone saw Elam donning earlier. Now the harness apparatus is more complete, with straps that wrap under his legs to create a sort of saddle that can carry his entire weight appropriately.

Carried by The Irons, shifting from one to another in perfect transition as if he is floating on high, Elam passes the Vault door, glides over The Pit, and hangs high above the group near the north wall.

Other chains that are not carrying him are gathered around him. He has a large pack on his back as well.

The rattle of the moving chains dies down, though the ones extending down into The Pit continue to clang loudly as the unknown ascendants from the depths climb.

Elam looks down at Iasu. With a blank expression, he speaks clearly to his brother.

"I have it, so now I must go."

Elam softly raises one hand towards Iasu. Looking him in the eye, he says, "Warid hasata. Tarect e Simush."

Iron snakes explode from Iasu’s shoulder bag and coil all around him. Before he can act he is locked tight. Captured. And tips over to hit the floor covered in iron bands.

Iasu begins Restrained Condition.
Optional Action: To break Restrained Condition, must succeed DC 20 STR check to break each set of Binding Edimmu Irons. There are 2 sets of them. One attempt per Round. Only 1 attempt is possible per set.

With lightning speed, The Irons all around the area sling down to enwrap with those binding Iasu. They quickly latch together and begin to lift the Hechesi archer off of the floor.

As the chains around him whirl into a field of noise and interference, Elam the Deceiver shouts out to Iasu, ...

"I did not wish for it to come to this, brother. Know that it was the only way!"

The flying head edimmu swoop down from the high shadows, buzzing and screeching in rage as they attack those on the ground below.

Uburatu's words echo in his head once more. He had even called Iasu by his true name. "Elam and the Twins are deceiving you. First, Namtur. Now you, Simush. Using you as pawns...I am not your enemy...we can escape...Elam is your downfall...you will die here... They can pass the hex and escape, but they withhold the secret signs from the rest of us. You they need as..."

Uburatu was right. Elam had been false all along. Iasu's most trusted brother. It's almost too much to bear. "You they need as..." What did Uburatu mean? What did Elam need Iasu for?

Kray cursed himself for not seeing this coming. His cruel father's words echoed in his mind, often heard as a youth.

You're soft, Lukrayides. You take too much after your brother, Lysander.

He knew now he should've had trusted his instincts about Elam. He should have ignored the benefit of the doubt he had chosen to give Elam. Courtesy prompted by the desperate circumstances of this vile place. Cursed Palace, indeed.

A singular thought shot into his mind.

I should have put him to the sword, peeled the truth from the liar.

In this moment, he had no concern for Elam's motives or the why of their current predicament. Only the resolution of it.

A clawed hand reaches up to grip the cracks in the bricks of the sloping edge of the floor that falls away into The Pitt. A fearsome monster, deformed and unnatural, pulls itself over to the floor from a nearby set of hanging chains. First on it's belly and knees, now standing up to near chest-height of a man, a fiend from The Pitt moans and shakes its limbs as if getting its bearings as an invader into this world.

With a convulsing quake, it lets out a loud honking bark from its giant teeth-filled maw. "GHAAANKK!!"

During the intervening minute, Thorn has tied a length of his rope around his waist and the other end in a loop, ready to throw around an ally if need be. The screech sounding from the way they entered sets his teeth on edge.

Continuing to keep an eye on the chamber from which he is barred, Urdav's blade is light in his hands as he also watches the corridor, waiting for what is to come.

A snarl begins to form on his face.

Yshala love me, I just need some fucking sleep.

The harrowing screech echoed in Kray's mind, his concern for Thorn immediate. "Bryn, we need those chains, now!"

Nearby, Iasu was gripped by metallic serpentine coils. Kray called to the bull, Maeriks in his other form. "Put some weight on Iasu! Keep him grounded!"

Then he shot the words at Elam. "Pawn of the Pit! Would you really violate your brother for your own selfish gain?! He trusted you, gave for YOU! Risked all! For YOU!"

A moment's thought and Kray threw the offer at Elam. An exchange, as it were. "Name a price, save the men here before you!"

Persuasion by Kray here.

Real quick, before J posts. Strategy session. Seems pivotal.

Great idea in ooc Hyp. Makes me think bull Maeriks, who is checked out of the game, could ram that mofo back over the edge into the pit, goring the thing as well. Force it back into Hel. Given that, that means Iasu is on his own, or helped by you.

We handle the fliers, I think. Theres a lot of them, so getting their tentacle grapples gone is really huge. Eliminates their multiple grapples.

Bryn solves the chains for us. I hope so, at least.

If we can cross off the fliers, get rid of the Hel spawn beast that just came up and own the chains, I think our odds improve.

Even if bull Maeriks fails the shove, it buys us time.

Another alternative is that bull M holds Iasu down. Kray takes on the hel spawn beast. Ryhim shoots fliers down.

Either way, I think Ryhim keeps his initiative low and maybe focuses on ranged attack only, no move. Shoots fliers out of the sky... think theres only a few left, maybe 4 or 5. I'd like to think some will go after bull M, he's a big target. Theres ammo on the floor near bull M as well, so Ryhin has a stash to go to.

I think the best option might be the bull shove of hel spawn, coupled with a Bryn chain completion while Kray covers Bryn with the body shield. Ryhim on high init takes out fliers that pose their serious grapple threat.

Also, that hel spawn bombed on init, big time. If bull M goes move and attack, he's guaranteed to be first before hel spawn. Bulling it over into the Pitt would be huge.

Getting ready for work so the above is a quick post to pause the gsme for a strat sesh.

Thoughts from all?

OOC:
I think I'd much rather have a weighty muscular bull anchoring me than a nimble masked man. Ryhim would be better suited of the pushing that creature or focusing range on Elam. The push is a static 15 DC strength save with added damage regardless of success.

I think our main concern should be securing Iasu. If Elam has control of the irons, Iasu's destination is straight into the Pit or becoming Elam's sick torture puppet. We can't shut down Elam in a single round, at least none that I see. We know what to expect from the edimmu's, not much we can do to prevent them other than killing them. That leaves the unknown creature from Hel, we don't know what it does or what it is capable of.

Bull Maeriks = Iasu boat anchor
Ryhim = Hel creature pusher
Melee = Edamame crowd control
Any range? = Elam love taps

That seems like our best approach. I'd much rather risk a failed push from potential lower DC than risk a whole character; one capable of not only hitting Elam but hitting him hard.

Great stuff, guys! Yeah, I'm feeling the Bull M as Iasu anchor tactic as well. Good call by Kray there.
