"Mind your metal on these cloakers!" Kray called tersely, torch jabbing as he broughtJudgement to bear on Thorn's captor, careful to inflict suffering on the creature alone. Seeing an opening as the fiend fought to engulf Thorn, Kray worked with methodical efficiency to decorate the floor with its vile blood.

I'll take disadvantage on those attacks, except the torch, which Kray really wants to drive into the bastard.

Torch attack first. Action surge to expedite things. Extra attacks on the edimmus. May use precision to shore up a roll.

Ahri freezes at the sight of the monstrous flying beasts. Unaccustomed to this level of fear, his feet lock in position unable to connect with his mind which is screaming for him to either defend himself or flee. Gripping his sword he prepares to swipe at any one of the beasties that gets within range.

Kray
BR2

Kray attacks aggressively with the Serpent Judgement in a swirl of rapid swings. The only thing holding him back from being more deadly is his effort to avoid cutting his comrade to pieces beneath the foul monster.

Attack 1 & 2: Hit
Attacks 3 & 4: Miss

He jabs in on the flesh of the beast with the lit torch. There is a singe of flesh, a darkening of the light, and the torch breaks apart.

The monster heaves and twists, tilting Thorn on a pivot. The wild tail still lashes relentlessly. Kray sees something shifting and bulging beneath the beast huge swaths of eel-like skin.

BR2

Bryn looks away from the otherworldly monstrosities raging outside of the column. He keeps his focus and inserts the first tool into one of the ports of the Halonian Phoenix Box. He had to get this just right. There would be only one chance.

Time invested in Thieves' Tools effort already rolled.

BR2

Ahri cannot take a step towards the beasts that cover Thorn and Akkeen. He fights to get his reflexes back under control.

An edimmu flitters by too close, shouting buzzing curses, and feels the slice of Ahri's blade. Spinning off-course, it rolls in the air to bounce on the floor, but uses its tentacles to scamper away on the floor leaving a trail of blood behind.

Attack: Hit vs. stray edimmu

Ahri uses the familiar feel of the attack to steel his nerves.

TR3
OOC:
I enjoy that Kray formally coined the monster nickname above, like a quick assessment based on observation.
The monster that has engulfed Akkeen bulges and heaves. Out of its underbelly burst a row of boney jointed claw-tipped appendages, two rows on either side of Akkeen's body line. The interior limbs wrap ruthlessly, entrapping Akeen even more as the tail hacks wildly at his legs!

Action 1: Pinning Grapple Attempt
Action 2: Tail Attack with Trip

The insect-like appendages strap around Akkeen's shoulders and arms, hugging him tightly, completely immobilizing his arms. The large head of the beast folds over Akkeen's head, hiding him beneath a huge roll of flesh that locks around to his chest.

Pinning Grapple Successful

Fighting against all odds, Akkeen shifts his stance wide and his center of gravity low to somehow stay on his feet even as his torso is completely restricted and the tail assaults his legs relentlessly.

In similar fashion as the other, boney appendages peel out in two rows along the monsters pale interior and work anxiously to wrap around Thorn's arms, shoulders, and neck.

Grimly and wordlessly, Thorn works his arms and torso to avoid being pinned by the sharp spines, but he is not fast enough. As if the ensuing paralysis weren't enough, he is forced to contend again with a flailing tail, which barely misses him.

"Thorn! I will save you!" Rallying himself, Maeriks drops his glaive, bounces in place for a couple hops, and then charges forward to tackle the creature enveloping Thorn. He strains as he attempts to pry the creature off of thorn and shove it down.
OOC:
Action surge to make this shit happen.
Just throwing out some Strength (Athletics) checks here. Not sure if this would be a help, grapple, shove, disarm, or what. Optimally I would break the grapple on thorn and then shove the thing down so others can have advantage attacking it prone. If things roll really well, Maeriks would attempt to restrain the thing on the ground.
OOC:
EDIT: LOL, I had written up my post when no one else had responded, but left it hanging before submitting to get some work done for the morning and so I could check on the grapple rules. I posted and then saw everyone else had been busy.

Kray holds back some of his wrath for fear of injuring Thorn, but still bears down hard on the beast with both of his blades. The monster rears it's head and hisses at its attacker, drool pouring out of its mouth onto Thorn's head and shoulders.

Casting aside his glaive, Maeriks barrels in and assaults the monster with his bare hands. He is repelled at first as the creature shifts, but throws both arms over again and is able to get a grip on the outer fins. Using the brute strength born from years of carrying waterlogged firewood through the swamp, Maeriks tears back a large swath of the monster's mass away from Thorn's right shoulder and arm.

Thorn is partially freed, and Maeriks maintains a wild hug-like grip on the monster and thorn alike as the creature continues to thrash.

One Grapple success
End Paralyzed Condition on Thorn upper body

With miraculous tenacity, Maeriks pulls back roughly, shifts his position, and deftly switches his grip to the inner spiny arms that strap across Thorns arms and chest like a buckle wrap. Shoving all of his weight forward and down, Maeriks tears through the interlocking claws along the whole line of insectoid appendages. The sheer force is too much - the junctions split - the arms separate. Thorn's arms burst free!

Second Grapple success!
End Restrained Condition on Thorn
OOC:
CB, I understood the intent to tear free and shove prone. This joker has a 2-step grapple break program, so I used the numbers to see what would happen on that. Shove would have been like a 3rd Action, so it wasn't possible, but congrats on a freakin heroic tear-through to eliminate the conditions leveled against Thorn. Hopefully a tolerable result.

R3 Update: Thorn, Ahri, Bryn

After being nearly smothered and blinded, Thorn feels the pressure of the crushing beast torn away as Maeriks manhandles through. Thorn is able to muscle free. Urdav's blade had been pressed up against Thorn's body, inert. Upon release though, the heavy sword is still in hand.

Bryn and Ahri get a glance of the battles raging on both sides of the hearth column: Kray and Maeriks fighting desperately to save Thorn, and Akkeen barely keeping his footing under assault by the other monster.

With Kray's torch extinguished in a burst, the two lamps placed on the floor within the hearth near Bryn are the only light sources left. Shining outward from the column, they cast wide shadows outward. The light is limited and the outer darkness hangs heavy in the huge chamber surrounding the small island of dim light.

Ahri and Bryn see the edimmu getting bolder, flying closer, buzzing and threatening...
