Elam keeps working the ritual on The Platform, drawing chalk symbols, laying out small rune pieces, and now quietly mouthing verbal components that are barely heard from the distance. He is taking the position that some have seen before, one of a ritualist - a magic invoker. Kneeling position. Arms lifted soft to the sides. He looks up at The Irons as he quietly proceeds, seeking concentration in a strained circumstance.

The buzz and chatter of the edimmu heads rolls up from The Pit for close to a minute. Their words are indecipherable, but the volume is considerable. Finally they emerge, darting up out of the dark chasm like a bursting fountain. Spinning in irregular flight patterns, they spiral and zoom the chamber increasing height along round-about routes. They buzz and talk, messages are hard to catch, but a word, perhaps a name, they keep repeating: "BUSHYASTA! BUSHYASTA!"

They soon see that the invading party has bows and arrows, and they appear to react accordingly, climbing to greater height to reach the darkened area high where the chains disappear.

Optional Action, Archers: 1 Round available for shots against head-fliers. Erratic whirling flight is effectively Dodge Action by edimmu, so shooters fire at Disadvantage.

As the fliers burst through, Kray tersely urges Bryn as he drops his shield behind Ryhim and the bull. "Give me the bow and get to work! Now!" He motions toward the chain-made door behind them and pulls the quiver off of Bryn as reaches for the bow.

Kray is going into action and pretty sure Ox would be for this play.

Ezeriah says:
...
Kray is going into action and pretty sure Ox would be for this play.

OOC:
Right on. Ox, sound off with objections if you have them - if not we're shooting.

Sounds like the bowmen then are Iasu, Kray, Ryhim.

Fire at will. No combat Initiative necessary. Remember Disadvantage to account for Dodgy flying heads.

A limited time offer. Will see what comes of this. Tonight or tomorrow morning, will be moving on.

Iasu looks worriedly at Elam. Suter-Set can't have been that easy to kill. Surely, that devious one has contingencies. Trapping them in here with the Irons is just the beginning! Plank bow loaded, finds what cover he can, and aims at the fliers as the Pit to disgorges Hel.
OOC:
Would rather use Action to attack rather than my far more useful Reaction. Would there have been time to reload the crossbow?

can definitely use Action.

And also plenty of time to have plank bow reloaded now.

As Kray notches the arrow, he immediately goes into muscle memory, laying shots out at the edimmu as they surge upward in evasive flight.

Two shots at disadvantage. Die bitch-bats!

Iasu tracks a flier, sighting the plank bow. Squeeze grip on the firing handle - the bolt sails and buries into the brain of the wretch, a heavy hit that crumples it in mid flight.
"GZAAA!" it buzzes briefly before it free falls back down into The Pit, wings limp.

Hit. E1 down.

Kray fires two shots quickly, but without the similar luck. The annoying edimmu are too erratic and prove to be tough targets.

Miss. Miss.
OOC:
Everyone track ammo.

Yo, Jabes. Give that plank bow some identification respect, bro. 1d10 with a damage booster. Specialized beefy bolts. Slow as fuck to load. At least call it "HEAVY crossbow". Plus it's one of a kind now! Ha!

RL: Out for the night. Will leave option open for Ryhim now. Tomorrow, moving forward if no entries.

Not sure how much ammo Bryn had. I think it was 6?

Nice shot, Jabes. Apparently Kray needs to hit the range. Take em down Hyp.

Bryn needs to hit the books chains and ace this test.

Better than Kray, man. I mean, at least you hit something. Ha!

That's why I say hey man nice shot...

Ryhim's arrow hits one of the fliers in the wing, injuring it. The fiend flutters, makes a rough landing against a close grouping of the hanging Irons. Using its neck tentacles, it climbs up the chains towards the obscuring shadows that sit high in the chamber.

Optional Action, Archers: someone can shoot this dork if they want. No Disadvantage - AC12. If not, will assume it scampers out of sight, climbing the chains.

The archer group fires at the flying edimmu.

Bryn continues to study runes and sigils, many of which seem to be invisible to everyone else.

Thorn keeps an eye on the ascending tunnel and tries to stay in communication with the group through the chain obstruction.

Suddenly a noise sounds out. Rattling chains. A loud boom, hiss of air, and the sound of scraping stone and metal.

Looking over to the northeast corner, the great vault door stirs. The chains binding it swirl and unravel loose. The door begins to open in the center - two golden doors opening out, on the way to extending out over The Pit!
Mar 29, 2019 3:47 pm
Elam jolts and looks over at the opening Vault door in surprise. He quickly stands to his feet, drawing to full alert.

Below from The Pit, yet another sinister call from the haunting distorted voice. Louder now...

https://dl.dropbox.com/s/ufytw7avst2nmob/Bushyasta%20speaks%204.JPG

It is difficult to understand, but it is the same voice that has been speaking since before Suter-Set fell, even when the group was descending the tunnel before they entered the chamber.

Elam looks down into the black chasm - a look on his face that must be frustration, and perhaps fear.

"Fuck!" everyone hears him shout in Heshbaan. The other words to himself are too quiet to decipher from the distance but the worry on his face is apparent.

Without further warning, several of The Irons dart down and snatch Elam up, grabbing him by the shoulders. In a flash he is swung off of The Platform, across The Pitt, and then tossed inside of the opening Vault entrance, disappearing from view!

A large grouping of The Irons that descend into The Pit begin to rattle and shake. The sound echoes through the chamber as the chains snatch and jolt.

By the look of the movement and pattern of the chains, it becomes clear.

Something is climbing up from the depths.

OOC:
Battlefield Notes and Description:

The opening of The Vault doors is creating a strange terrain development.

All of the ground around The Pit is more like a down ramp, the edge of a collapse, not a squared-off sharp edge of a cliff.

Since the line of ground on the north end of the chamber is increasingly narrow as you move east, that means that the ground all the way to the north wall is sloping inward to The Pit, making that area quite treacherous to travel on.

Now with the trajectory of the opening door, it appears as if the door will open out and be a large blockade like wall that extends out over The Pit.

The sloping ledge of the north wall then would run under the overhanging door.

To speak plainly about practical things: anyone trying to loop around to The Vault will have to take it very slowly and very carefully to pass along the narrowing remnant of a footpath and under the obstacle-like overhanging door.

A DEX check will be involved for any takers. I think it's obvious that it would be a high-stakes DEX check, since failure would mean slipping and falling into The Pit.

May be other options that you guys think up, perhaps the use of securing equipment or and effort to place secure handholds/footholds (pitons and small hammer anyone?) - those could show promise.

Not trying to lead the way here, not sure what your guys' priorities or reactions are - just trying to throw that out there because I was thinking one of the obvious things to do might be "I run around the north pathway and enter The Vault!"

Might be possible. But running? No. More like carefully walking and hanging on for dear life. And there is a risk involved.

Kray isn't packing anything useful for climbing right now, at all. Came here ready for battle.

Not to mention, that edge walk J mentioned seems high risk, even for the DEX crew out here. Moving along that edge with Something Wicked This Way comes seems like bad juju.

Bryn needs to finish studying and get to controlling chains.

Kray would use the bull as cover, switching back to shield with that as cover as well, then backing toward Bryn with a quickness to provide him cover for his study jam, body shield placed in front of them both.

Be ready fellas. Watch for potential AoE effects.

Near the chain door, Kray called over his shoulder to Thorn, levity in his voice, despite the grimness of it all."Mind yourself, not too comfortable there." Kray, was, to be sure, grateful Thorn was safe. At the same time, this shit hole had clearly demonstrated that safety was fleeting.

Ready yourself, you bastard.

Kray released and flexed his grip on the shield, Judgement, as always, at ease like a junkie on a fresh fix in his hand, ready for a deep, satisfying drink of fresh, wet blood... any color would do.

X, not sure how far the distance or how long the dash would take in your condition. J would know. But it might be a good idea if Thorn doesnt have rope, to get it.

Or it could be a waste if time. At this point, timing and all, seems highly likely that's it's the latter. A couple axe throws from T might be difference makers. Just wondering what you can do while caged up.
