I'm playing another pbp game on here, but have been trying to find a local game. No one I know in the area plays.

Our group used to be about 8 players but has in time changed and grown rather thin as others moved away. We have an easy time finding players but we have a much harder time finding roleplayers who are able to carry their own weight in terms of roleplay. Some of our newer players are more inclined to put themselves in a supporting role of a more experienced player.

I am involved in no less than 47 games on GamersPlane (one of them as DM) and I also play in one long-running IRL game.

It's mostly D&D 5E, but there's some Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, Dungeon World, Numenera, BFRPG, and one game of Dungeonslayers.

Of those, 21 are active (several posts per week), and 8 are slow (1 post per week). 18 are pretty much dead in the water - I don't know why I don't just click Leave Game already!

With a full-time job (I am a chef and business owner) I don't know where I find the time haha! But RPG's keep me sane, you know?

Jabes what do you think is the number one cause of games going dead?
Feb 27, 2018 12:12 pm
Top cause from my experience is the people just ghosting. The DM bailing is insta-kill of course but you've also got player attrition which leaves the game flopping around like a fish before it eventually dies. I acknowledge leaving could be because of real life demands taking priority (as they should) but what I don't understand is people just leaving without a word.

On the other hand you've got games that just stop being interesting. Either not everyone is doing their best to drive the story forward (it can't and shouldn't just be the DM) or it could be too slow a posting rate. For me personally I like a game where everyone posts once a day. Slower is fine but any less than thrice a week becomes a drag real fast. I've seen it happen too many times.

Jabes hates my games!!!! /cry

What?! Are you joking? Why would you think that? Sure yeah the posting rate is on the slow side but both In Search of the Old Ways and The Disappearing of the Dwarves are mysterious and engaging!

The next time skip will be to the point of reaching near the mountains for the party of 5. Should the party of 3 follow the trails being left behind they can attempt to make up lost ground by travelling at forced march which will require a con save.
Thats up to you three to make and by no means is it necessary

Are we skipping to dawn then?
It looks like Cato and Vortrin are having an interesting conversation. I know DMJ is currently swamped at work, so may not be able to respond til later today or tomorrow.

I really enjoyed that interaction between Cato and Vortrin! :-)

Absolutely, me too. Hopefully there is more there to explore

"Don't be so hasty yet my new friends, shall I commune with a flying animal to discover the exact locations of the archers and others so we can be best prepared?"
My understanding is that Deruvid says this to Asterion and Cato as the three are heading up to the arch. We ARE already well on our way, right?

Cato is underway, striding through the cover, anxious to see the close lay of the land and what avenues of approach will give the best chance of making the ascension undetected.

It can, I suggested it when we were still dividing teams up. but we can go in with less information.

Asterions blade wounds the archer mortally before a black flame leaps out and seals the deal for the poor soul.
I have no complaints if you are houseruling this but I I would be remiss if I didn't point out that by RAW the fire damage from Green Flame Blade (I simply reflavored it to black flames) targets a different enemy than the target of the melee attack:
Quote:
Black Flame Blade
• Evocation cantrip
• Casting Time: 1 action
• Range: 5 feet
• Components: V, M (a weapon)
• Duration: Instantaneous

As part of the action used to cast this spell, you must make a melee attack with a weapon against one creature within the spell's range, otherwise the spell fails.

On a hit, the target suffers the attack's normal effects, and black fire leaps from the target to a different creature
of your choice that you can see within 5 feet of it. The second creature takes fire damage equal to your spellcasting ability modifier.

This spell's damage increases when you reach higher levels. At 5th level, the melee attack deals an extra 1d8 fire damage to the target, and the fire damage to the second creature increases to 1d8 +your spellcasting ability modifier. Both damage rolls increase by 1d8 at 11th level and 17th level.

Yeah I noticed that but thanks for pointing it out. I was just aiming to give the attack a little more flavor and description since the damage from the attack alone was enough to kill. The rule is what we would go by if there was more than one unit or if the sole unit was able to survive the damage from the regular attack
Mar 19, 2018 3:44 am
Awesome! I am a huge fan of flavorful descriptions! Just wanted to make sure it intentional and not an oversight. :-)

Going on a trip March 25-29. Posting will be spotty, and the game I DM will take priority over the two-dozen or so other games I'm involved in.
