Professor Vortrin you know some things outside of the usual tale (which you can recite if you want). You first know that some people knew of Isaac Heuster and its believed by some that his origins came from New Fundy. You also know that Isaac was known for searching into the origins of creatures from shadow. You know also that the West, as well as the oceans south of the continent have had a history of shadow creature sightings. While the exact type of creature changes depending on the source asked you know from the extensive studying you've done on the topic that the sightings have increased in the past 3 decades
OOC:
You can edit your above post to rephrase this as youd like Jabba but we will proceed as though you had done so
As you look upon both the dwarf and gnome you dont feel like anything is too out of the ordinairy. The dwarf comes off to you as someone whose been around the lands and is experiences while the gnome looks as though hes spent more than his fair share of time with his face infront of a book.

The dwarf picks at his scarred nose a little "The name is Nuragot Opalchin" claims the dwarf calmly.

"And thats fine if you dont believe me Gnome, but I dont recall seeing you around here at all until now. I, on the other hand, have been living in this town for a good amount of ten years and know my place around while you spent time brushing up on history of the lands" he says skeptically of the Gnome.

A couple others start to come into the tavern now to get some morning grub. One of the patrons sets down a bowl of hot soup in front of Deruvid. It lets off a bit of a aromatic hearty scent that is pleasant enough that a few of the individuals that enter the bar start asking for the same thing.

Skyro rubs his chin, and looks towards the gnome, Knowing the history of swords is one thing, but having experience using it is another- which is why I'll still take Nuragots offer. Feel free to follow along Poindexter. he playfully insults the gnome, and returns to his booth for the moment.

The gnome recites the history of the story that he has knowledge of. Being sure to stick to the facts and not embellish the tale.

On finishing the delivery of his history lesson, ignoring the dwarf's comments for the time being, turned his attention to the dragonborn that had been so dismissive of him. He was used to such underestimation of his abilities and even more used to proving people wrong.

Wanting to prove a point the gnome recited an incantation and moved his hand nonchallantly, casting his mage hand from well practiced memory. Manipulating the spectral form the gnome grasped the dwarves dagger from his sheath and waved it in front of the the dragonborn.

"Anyone can use a weapon of steel, bounty hunter," the gnome stated flatly. "But not everyone can manipulate the world around them.

With a flick of his head, the mage hand tossed the dagger behid some tables on the end of the room, within another moment and before the dwarf could react and while everyone was distracted by the flying dagger, the gnome discreetly incanted his prestidigitation cantrip, causing the dwarf to soil his breaches involuntarily.

"I am Professor Vortrin," the wizard gnome defiantly announced. "Esteemed archaeological scholar of the Faculty of Magical Artefacts, School of Archaeology at the Academy of Merios. I have travelled across all the continents of this land in pursuit of artefacts long forgotten by this world. I am not be trifled with. That goes for all of you. The tale of Isaac Huester has reached as far as Merios and I have been sent to assess the tale to discern its truth. I can assure you my studies indicate this tale is far from a fairytale and I intend to explore the retreat in the hope of unearthing precious and powerful artefacts. You can bring all the swords and drunken dwarves you like, but you won't find a wizard as capable or as knowledgeable as I in these parts."

With that the Professor summoned his mage hand again to fetch his pipe from where he had left it on his table. He packed it silently and set about smoking it.

Vortrin uses Mage Hand cantrip to remove and throw dwarf's dagger
Vortrin uses Prestidigitation cantrip to cause excrement to appear in dwarf's underwear
Vortrin uses Prestidigitation cantrip to cause foul smelling odour to seep from dwarf

OK let me know if I am over stepping the mark here. I don't actually know how to cast a spell as it appears I just can as long as I have the necessary ability to speak, motion and/or use components where relevant and not concentrate on two spells at once. Let me know if I should be rolling something here. I will edit this post if this is out of bounds.

The scarlet-scaled dragonborn observes the gnomes magical capabilities, as the gnome uses mage hand, all that goes through Skyros mind is, oooooh, aaaaaah, the gnome can throw daggers with magic- soooo scary.

Then the gnome soils the Dwarfs pants, and that actually nearly causes Skyro to laugh at the feat for a moment, but he manages to hold back and grin a moment.

This gnome is feisty, I'll give him that. Should I instigate further, just to screw with him? Oh, absolutely.
Skyro smiles, as he hasn't had such fun in quite a number of days.

He stands back up, straightening up to his full height of 7"7, and walks over to the "professor". So you can soil pants eh? Do fancy tricks, yes? Watch this buddy.

Skyro grabs the gnomes shoulders, standing 3 times his height, and gives him a piercing gaze with his serpentine eyes- the light of day bounces off the irises, making them seem to glow a fierce amber. He then smiles, revealing his sharp teeth, and as he slowly opens his mouth, smoke begins to pour out- the gnome can now easily notice a glow beginning to illuminate in the back of the dragonborns throat, and with it, a heat wave can now be felt. The glow grows brighter, the heat now begins to slightly sting the gnomes face- the guttural growl of the the dragonborn grows stronger, and with a sudden flare, the dragonborn unleashes only a small plume of fire focused above the gnomes head, singing naught but a few of his hairs, for the purpose of intimidation.

Using Red Dragon Breath to intimidate the professor. Hopefully causing him to soil his pants.

What a great start to this adventure. Gotta love taverns.

Haha, so its a shit-off then! Well played, Stud. Well played. Will wait for DM before I progress

Damn right it is! DM, may I claim inspiration?
Feb 15, 2018 11:07 am
OOC:
By the way Jabber, I love your character thus far. I can't wait to see how Skyro and Poi- *cough* Vortrins interactions in the future will be. As the same for everybody elses characters.

OOC:
Please check the OOC thread for what was discussed on this. In short, due to my objections on player manipulation via another player, I was only going to allow it if everyone was on board. Seeing as though others had the same objections, im going to not allow it.

The inspiration will still be awarded since it was earned before the rolls came out but I will require that Jabba just act out how they would react in that situation as opposed to dice determining that
Skyro gains inspiration, so may Vortrin

I smash a glass against a wall. Enough! You fools squabble like children. Nature and the natural world is in danger and you act as though it matters not! Trees and animals die naturally but when ghosts return and bodies rise, something unnatural is occurring! I swore I would protect the natural order of things and I shall. Now whomever is done squabbling may come with me, for I intend to uphold my vow! I turn and exit, heading west.

OOC:
I definitely agree. The players are the DM's of their characters, so they decide how to react. However, another option is contesting rolls. Obviously I'm not going to go around intimidating everyone to my will, because that ruins the fun for the other players, but in playful moments like this, you could also use contesting rolls. Intimdation vs. Constitution saving throw perhaps?

Heh, what she said. Lief chuckles and follows the Druid out.

Cato approaches the gnome and the dragon man, cautiously with an attempt to diffuse the tension.

He tries to make an appeal, "You two fellows seem to be formidable, each in your own right. Together a good mix of brains and brawn. I suspect this investigation will require both. What do you say about putting aside our differences and joining forces?"

He gives a pause, hoping to allow the situation to calm before continuing. He offers a hand shake to both and exchanges introductions again to keep things moving, expanding the quick intros to anyone else that has not yet left.

Cato is open to the idea of leaving westward, but wonders who it is who can lead the way to the caverns.

At some point during the contest Asterion walks out of the tavern in disgust. It was a mistake coming forward and attempting to ally himself and Cato with such petty fools! Trying to scare each other like children! If they spent a night in his shoes they would know true fear! With black dread clawing at their souls they would wet their beds like mewling babes!

Asterion stops in the middle of the yard, and turns his face skyward with eyes closed. Yes, even in daytime it calls to him. He can feel the oppressive weight of it pressing upon him, crushing & choking...

Vortrin feels the heat building and his face becoming intensely dry. The worst part of this whole dragonborn's performance was that his precious facial hair was being singed not to mention the last surviving strands on top of his head.

Whilst he allowed his face to remain passive, he did allow himself a moment to marvel at the creature. It wasn't often he had encountered a dragonborn let alone be on its heated end. Perhaps he would make a formidable ally...if an uncivilised one.

Truth be told being incinerated by a draconic creature would certainly hurt but the tales they would tell of him but at the academy would be interesting.

As a final riposte to the dragonborn's flaming mouth, Vortrin attempted to calm the situation down with humour. As the flame spewed forth the wizard gnome conjured a marshmallow on a stick and held it to the flame, a wry grin on his face despite his trembling bowels.

"Perhaps our friend here is correct," the Professor said, staring up into fiery depths of the dragonborn's maws, marshmallow quivering yet crispy. "I think we both have complimenting utility. I propose a truce in the interest of mutual goals."

Vortrin put his small gnarled and scarred out as an offering.

Vortrin cast presdigitation to conjure marshmallow on a stick

"This is the lot you ask me to throw in with?" Deruvid says under his breath to some unknown deity.
Feb 16, 2018 12:10 am
Skyro bellows out in laughter, Obviously this lot doesn't understand friendly competition. he pats the gnomes shoulders, I have a new respect for you Poindexter- or you know what? I'll call you P.D. for short from now on. he winks at the miniature know-it-all. I normally have no care for people, and I prefer working alone, but I look forward to a change of pace, and working with you gnome. he offers his hand, Let's shake on it? As new partners for this adventure?
Feb 16, 2018 12:16 am
The Dwarf is pretty angry at having his dagger thrown and pants soiled. Cursing under his breath at the gnome he saunters over to the other end of the tavern away from the lot to retrieve his dagger and take a seat at another table amidst some laughter by some of the patrons at the tavern. He turns his back so that it faces towards the group, and orders a strong ale, and pays for it using the gold coin given to him earlier.

---------------

Outside of the tavern the smell of grass and wet mud mix together to give a pleasant reprieve from the odor of the dwarf's soiled pants. Exiting to the left would lead to the western part of town where as going towards the right you see some of the wooden buildings getting bigger, letting you know that you're on your way to the center of town.

A hunting guild is housed across the street from the tavern. The building is modestly decorated. It almost gives you off the impression that their hunting is meant more as a source of food than for trophies. Mixed in on the other side of the street are some homes meant for some townsfolk and some places for travelers to sleep for the night. The various floral decorations are just starting to sprout out of the various gardens and pots, with their growth being thwarted seemingly by the endless rain.

Catching up to Awenasa. So hey, I’m definitely in for a little adventure. I need to get out of this town for a little while anyway. I feel like I’m getting a bit stal. No what I mean.
