Varl looked the Aasimar up and down noting that the height of the creature alone was astonishing.

"All of you should come with us," the monk said speaking past the Aasimar, addressing all in the house. "We don't know what the road is like between here and the keep but that Blue Dragon could be back any moment. We should resist hunting it down for now. Let us ensure the safety of as many of Greenest as possible. Arm yourselves with what ever you can and make ready. Do we have any medicines, bandages or herbs here that we can bring with us?"

The old man that just spoke nods and says Yes, my brother and myself. We are both clerics of chauntea. My name is Bertram. My brother is Oliver Motioning to the other older gentleman. The girl is Ria, our niece. Now I agree let’s get moving before we are set upon by raiders or worse. steps back inside the building for a moment and you hear a quick exchange where Bertram is encouraging the other two to get a move on. They all shortly appear back at the door. Seemingly ready to head to the Keep.

If we go, it must be quick. The faster we can get the civilians to safety, the faster we can pursue the dragon. I start walking.

For clarity Bartholomew hasn’t been hanging around. He has perpetually been urging the group towards the keep.

I will stay back with the children. Harold draws his bow again, notching an arrow as he prepares to jog with the kids towards the keep.

The thin black line is roughly 60' for those that dont have darkvision that is the extent of your line of sight.

OOC:
I’m not sure Bartholomew’s actions are being adequately communicated. Bartholomew is holding the children’s hands and urging them and the rest of the group towards the keep. Although others are knocking on doors and having polite conversations Bartholomew has always been insistent to keep moving. Somehow he has now run off and left the family behind. He wouldn’t do that. I think the map would be correct if 2 kids were next to B.#justsayin

I stay towards the front of the group as we make our way.

Alright people! Expeditiously now! Harold urges the group to begin moving towards the keep.

Actaeon notches another arrow in his bow, and remains on the sideline for the moment. The only thought that runs through is mind is, One of the Pryx has to be here... with this scale of attack and bloodshed, why wouldn't at least one be here? It's a perfect scenario, and my arrow awaits. he looks to the group, Let us hurry to the keep, and drop these folk off. From there it is up to us to make safe the city, and fight back.

I will adjust the map slightly to indicate this. however Cuth and Linan are keeping a tight watch on the kids and wish to stay close to the group, believing in the safety in numbers.

Acknowledging we rolled crap on initiative, why are we surprised when we are on high alert making our way through the village while escorting vulnerable citizens?
Mar 7, 2018 10:22 pm
Because they were more stealthy than you were passively perceptive. And honestly I forgot to subtract 5 for the dim light so more people should have probably been surprised then were. No one was moving stealthily and in particular were quite concerned with hurrying the children to safety and just missed them.
Mar 7, 2018 10:27 pm
I can compromise though. If anyone surprises wishes to they can make a perception roll. With disadvantage if you don’t have darkvision

Harold drops his bow and heads towards K1, standing between him and Ch3, and pulling out his shortsword and scimitar.

As he runs, he yells, Someone grab my bow!

He then attacks K1 with his shortsword, and as a bonus action, attacks K1 again with his scimitar.

Shortsword Attack - (1d20+5)

(19) + 5 = 24

Varl pushed the child he was protecting into the arms of one of the townsfolk and ran to position himself between the two kobolds.

Sickle in hand he swung it at K1 and doubled back with an elbow to the neck of K2.

Rolls

Sickle attack K1 - (1d20+6)

(20) + 6 = 26

Sickle Damage - (1d4+4)

(3) + 4 = 7

Unarmed attack k2 - (1d20+6)

(11) + 6 = 17

Unarmed damage - (1d4+4)

(2) + 4 = 6

In a flash Harold rushes forward, weaving through the geoup before anyone can blink. He pulls his two blades out simultaneously and beheads K1 in a single motion using both swords in unison.

Varl, but a split second behind Harold vaults over in front of K2. Using his sickle, he lodges the blade in the body of the small creature, which probably would have been plenty enough to kill it. Not done however, holding the weight of the kobold steady with his sickle he drives his fist into its face, dislodging the weapon.

The townsfolk are all frozen with fear and impressed by the quickness in which two of the attackers were dispatched. They all take the dodge action.
