"He went that way," Lio says, pointing west and shaking his head. "Tried to stop him but he wouldn't listen. It's not like him." Both he and Myche struggle to their feet and seem ready to proceed but they, not to mention two of your teammates, are badly injured. If any more slimes show up it could be bad.

"He said he was going to follow the voice. But I swear it's coming from over there." Myche says, pointing south. The faint muttering does seem to change origin from one moment to the next. Depending on who's listening, a heartbeat ago the sound was coming out of a metal grate, now from the north tunnel.

Erden: The whispering is coming out of the metal grates. All these chambers and tunnels must be interconnected through these ventilation and drainage shafts. There's no telling where the owner of the voice is actually situated.

A peek down each tunnel by anyone with darkvision (Baracus, the turtles, or Erden through Timear's eyes) reveals that the south tunnel branches left and right. To the north, an archway entrance to a large, unlit chamber. 50 feet into the west tunnel, a similar archway appears to have been walled up. Don-Yi is there, tapping at the bricks and listening.

What do you do?

OOC:
Jabes, is pinpointing the exact location of the voice still an option? Baracus only has +2 perception but has darkvision. A-Team, I propose cashing my inspiration and Rydler's inspiration die, and perhaps Rydler can cast guidance on me. THat's +2, advantage, +1d4 + 1d6 (average of about +6). I'll start in that direction with this post, but if I'm off base or people want to go in a different direction, I can redact it.

This task is nigh impossible but sure, you can try if you want. Succeed or fail, I certainly love the fluff on that post!

Baracus retrieves his father's axe from the wall and secures it on his back. He hears the whispers haunting them from all directions, and sees his comrades in poor condition. This endeavour, and perhaps their very lives, hangs in the balance.

Baracus closes his eyes and beseeches his father for help:

Father, guide my senses to this fool.

Baracus opens his eyes and witnesses.

Papa Baracus: fuck off kid, I'm busy.

Try as he might, Baracus is unable to pick out the original voice. Everything he's hearing is an echo of an echo of an echo, bounced back and forth, around and through the innumerable pipes and shafts, many of them hidden, running through this place.

It's much the same with Rydler even with his finely tuned senses and focus. And yet he senses something, like a guiding force felt only in the core of his being, urging him to the south tunnel.

Just then Don-Yi calls out from the west tunnel. It looks like he's found a chink in the wall. "There's a room behind this wall, and the floor is high and dry. Look, these bricks are new! Help me knock them loose!" he begins smashing the butt of his spear into the bricks. True enough, it sounds hollow. If nothing else, the room beyond might provide a relatively safe place to rest and recover. Then again, it might house new threats.

What do you do?

Urban holds the torchlight and scans the area as the turtles work to disassemble the wall.

Activate Divine Sense
OOC:
Fellas, with 9 HP Urban could use a Short Rest if time/circumstance permits, but I know it may not depending on what goes on beyond the wall. Seems like turtle could use SR too. If not, will soldier on no problem, but at lower output - no spell/smite slots either.
Len, Urban has 10 HP Lay on Hands staged up for Barracus, but looking to time it right, save it for later if we do end up running a short rest and Barracus HPs up that way.

Baracus can't discern the echos over Don-Yi's voice and subsequent tapping. But, perhaps that is what his father is directing him toward? Baracus holds Rydler back before joining the Urban and the Turtles. He does his best impersonation of a whisper, which mostly just sounds like his regular voice but an octave even lower.

That of the Nine Hells can take many forms, Rydler.

He nods his head towards Don-Yi, who only moments ago had disappeared.

He looks back at Rydler, the unspoken question filling the air.
OOC:
Going for a help action to Rydler to see if he can verify that Don-Yi is himself. Insight check perhaps or whatever Rydler thinks is appropriate.

J, appreciate the Lay on Hands offer. I'm at 21 hp and got 1 rage in the bag to gain some damage resistance, so you might be the better target for LoH. Your call.

We should probably consider wrapping this up and return to the surface. We have at most 1 more encounter in us. Some ideas:

1. Urban could use LoH and we try to alpha strike whatever is south given Rydler's success. Might be our only chance to catch it off guard, or catch it at all.
2. We hole up in the west room to regain some resources if Don-Yi is on the up-and-up.
3. Retreating to the surface is also a smart option, might be better to cut losses.

Any other possible paths, everyone? What do we want to do? Baracus would be most down for 1 or 2.

Rydler stares off down the south tunnel, absently nodding to Baracus "A stronger truth less spoken, brother." he whispers back before turning towards the direction Don-Yi went then looks to Baracus. "Keep this between us for now, at least until we find a course of action; Lathander wills me to the south. Whether he wills me to this noise or what we search, I don't know but it lays to the south." He claps Baracus on the shoulder and nods towards Don-Yi "Let's go see if the devil rests his head amongst us."
OOC:
I think insight fits the best; rolling to see if there is anything funky going on with Don-Yi. I have limited healing as well, 2 spell slots of 1d8+6.

I'm for number 1 or 2; we have options so 3 is kinda 'eh' I feels it's more of a last ditch option.

As far as Baracus and Rydler can tell, Don-Yi is quite himself.

Breaking through the wall reveals a small, square room. Don-Yi was right, the floor and walls are dry. There are no gutters nor inlet pipes. It appears to have been mostly cleared out before being hastily walled up but you can tell it used to be some sort of laboratory. A few flasks and an alembic sit on a table strewn with vivisected rats and smashed laboratory equipment. On what must have been a shelf crammed with specimens now sits a lone jar containing what appears to be a live sewer slime, no bigger than a fist - but its black coloration is unfamiliar to the turtles. A more thorough search of the table drawers and the shelves lining the walls turns up a few intact, stoppered vials:
[ +- ] You find:
Another vial contains a few crystals which Urban recognizes as a strong stimulant drug. Port Llif was once awash with a version of this drug. But while those crystals were white, these are pale blue. Urban is reminded of something he heard in the alley behind the Scum & Villainy about a new, blue drug circulating in Pradesh.

This former laboratory looks like a relatively safe place to rest. What do you do?

Urban studies the room and thinks it over. "I heard some rumors the other night at the docks," he says to the crowd, "Some guy named Heisenberg boils out an extract substance, delivers euphoria to those who partake. On the street they call it Blue Sky. I would guess that this is one of his workshops. He kept it hidden from others I suppose."

Urban picks up and studies one of the stray crystals, and then turns to Erdan, "People do strange things for this sort of smoke. And there is a lot of coin to be made for these apothecary types who brew and sell it."

Urban surveys the crowd and the room. "It looks like it is safe enough though for now," he asks Erdan, "Should we take a short breather?"
OOC:
I'd go for a Short Rest. Could use the HPs the old-fashioned way.
Len, I saw your ideas, and they make perfect sense, but....Hate to be stubborn, but Urban would never use Lay on Hands on himself.
To me as his manager, I just think that is so NOT-Paladin. Ha! From Urban's perspective also, he doesn't even really understand his strange powers so far. He would not even think that his own healing works on himself, and would not have thought of it. For him, he just thinks of it as sometimes he tries to give people a boost. He's not sure if it always works, but it is for other people if it works at all.
OOC:
Plunging in, throwing dice, hoping you guys are onboard with the Short Rest. Badass too : good numbers that put Urban back to full health.

"What's this Heisenberg got to do with the cult? This IS a cult hideout." Lio says, gesturing at the symbols on the walls - the same symbols as the ones at the house. "We've been after this cult a long time, and we've never known them to involve apothecaries or alchemists."

"No apothecary made that." Rafiel growls, stabbing one of his knives in the direction of the black slime in the jar. "And now Sashvar says the cult is in league with a demon?"
Jun 11, 2018 8:41 pm
Erden looks distastefully at the drugs and shakes his head, "Horrible habit," he says, "But not as horrible as those who profit off of it..."

Turning to Lio, Erden shrugs, "We've not been involved in this as long as you, obviously, but this could well be the source of the cult's income. Even crazed monsters have to eat, you know. As far as the demon goes, we can vouch for its involvement in this, since we fought it already once before."

Lio raises his hands placatingly. "We weren't arguing. Just wondering out loud. If the cult has allied itself with a demon or demons then they've just become more dangerous. And if they're selling drugs on the street then they must be up to something."
