Yeah...it is literally a shark that lives on land. It's hard to blame an animal for obeying its nature and instincts. The problem is we can't reason with it...how do we know it won't come back looking for more food.

Arina says:
Enraged and bleeding from a dozen places the creature wildly lashes out at Kuz who nimbly steps between the Bulette's legs. The creature is looking very rough.
@Arina: Just want to make sure, did you take into account that I gave it advantage with my reckless attacks ?
Apr 23, 2018 1:27 pm
@Moonbeam: Sorry just a little clarification. What source material are you looking for?
Apr 23, 2018 1:28 pm
@Deadpool. You know what I completely forgot. There are a lot of things to check at the moment, unfortunately this one slipped through. Thanks for the catch. I'll try not to kill you with the damage ;)

I've edited the post to include damage.

Also everyone. I like to play D&D as a collaborative game if you have something you'd like to add just go for it. I'll let you know if you're doing something too crazy.

E.g. If Rolana were to say that her spies in xxxxx empire have no idea what's happening, I would add xxxx to the world. Have at it everyone!

Oh and one more thing. I thought the Transport Via Plants spell would be an excellent way to speed up your trip!

@Arina, When we kill a creature, can you post us the stats here just for the fun of seeing what we were up against ? If nobody is against it of course.

It was a home brewed creature. I have it on paper but I don't have an electronic copy. Let me see what I can do.

For now know that it was:

Giant Bulette
CR 15
AC 17 (natural)
286 hps
+11 con save
Tremorsense 60 ft.
Blind

Multiattack: on each of its turns the Bulette makes one bite and one tail attack.

Bite: +9, 3d8+9 piercing

Swallow: a creature hit by it's bite attack must make a DC 19 dex save or be swallowed whole. While swallowed the creature is considered restrained and takes 6d6 acid damage at the start of its turn.

Tail attack: +9, 3d8+9 bludgeoning damage

@Arina, what I meant by source material was really just general knowledge of the setting. My sense was that I, as a player, don't really know anything about the game world beyond what you've told us in your posts, so playing my master spy is challenging because she should have knowledge that I don't. For example, she knows her way around the kingdom, but I really don't. And she should know if she has spies or contacts in Southwatch or Celeria.

If you're okay with me making some Rolana-specific command decisions about the world, there's no problem. Or I can pm you with proposals.

I appreciate your preference for collaboration!

Absolutely. Go nuts. If you're ever in doubt then send me a PM otherwise just go for it. I can always edit your post later :)

Would I know if with commune with nature I can find "dead magic zones" created by those crystal ? Maybe by looking where I can't see ?

Yes. I think that's feasible.

I have some questions about the crystals. Perhaps you don't want to answer because we should just find out, but I'm a bit confused. This might be a very chaotic post, welcome to my head...
1. If we had been aiming our magic at the creature's head, or through the 6 feet (3 feet radius) orb around the crystal, would our magic not have hit it? Like Pyrrha's sunbeam aiming at its eyes? But it looked like it did have effect, was its head so big?
2. Clearly, since our magic hit the creature, it's not a "touch it and be safe from magic" thing. So wearing it on your head (fancy hat) won't save your feet from being hurt if you're taller than 3 feet. But this would also mean that if they put the stones on the ground to make a wall of anti magic anything "floating" more than 3 feet above the ground wouldn't be affected. So either this is not used as an anti magic shield, or all the magic search thingies used to check on the city sort of work by gliding over the ground (or less than 3 feet above it) to reach its destination?
Unless they build like a wall or net or dome or whatever with crystals 6 feet apart, which takes a lot of planning and building and is not easily done without anyone noticing and asking questions/warning someone outside the city.

I'm not trying to be mean or rude, I'm just trying to make everything make sense in my head! ^^I'm still a happy, very confused person;-)

Edit 1. Someone just suggested that perhaps a bigger crystal has a bigger radius... Which sounds totally plausible and takes a lot of my confusion away... It also explains why no warning messages were sent because once seeing the crystal people would already be in the anti magic zone so it wouldn't work...

1. As for your first point, I figured that in the chaos of combat you probably wouldn't have been focussing too hard on seeing such a minor thing. To see the spell disappear as opposed to impact your would have had to have been very very close. Also, as Kuz was fighting the creature from below, he wouldn't have seen a thing.
As a side note, it didn't have any eyes, so I had to reimagine Pyrrha's targeting a little :)

I suppose I could have given you a very difficult perception check. But then you would have known that you're looking for something, so I try and avoid that sort of thing.

However, if you feel that I have misrepresented your actions then please let me know. I can certainly ammend my play style going forwards.

2. To your knowledge, your observation is correct. Your spells certainly had a visible effect on the creature's body. Oma Salie herself would have seen the effects of her chaos magic. The anti-magic properties of the crystal did not extend the length of the creature's body.

Regarding whether the magic would prevent something like message or scrying, you simply do not have enough information yet to make that conclusion.
Apr 29, 2018 12:40 pm
Oh and yes it had a massive head!
Apr 29, 2018 4:29 pm
:-)! Thank you for answering my questions! I think in my head a hit on the creature and the disappearance of the magic all together would've looked differently, but 3 feet isn't much when we're all far away. You're right. (I have to keep telling myself 3 ft ≠ 3 meter, sorry)

I don't feel you should change the combat handling, I'm just assuming that if super weird stuff happens to our magic that we would notice you'll tell us?

Again, wasn't trying to judge you or anything. My head just goes insane when I can't make sense of it all. Sorry if I have you the impression I think you're "doing things wrong"!
Apr 29, 2018 11:29 pm
I certainly would. I also have trouble with using stupid imperial measurements!

I have absolutely no problem with answering questions! I'd rather you asked than remain confused or dissatisfied!

I don't feel judged at all!
Apr 29, 2018 11:50 pm
Oh and if it helps at all, I also figured that the chance of you hitting a 3 feet square sphere was statistically negligible, so I made the call that it wouldn't have even effected your spells. The only time that I came close to rolling for was Pyrrha's daylight spell. I assure you, that had the anti-magic sphere effected your magic I would have, at the very least, given you a chance to notice!

Hey everyone, I've been thinking about the way I've been giving out information and handling ability checks. As you can tell, I've been sending you notes as you apply your checks but I'm considering changing to spoilers instead.

I am a little worried that the use of notes is slowing the game down for no real reason. As it seems that everyone is sharing their information with the group (which I strongly encourage) how would you feel if I just wrote spoilers instead? Spoilers are useful because if I didn't use them then there would be some pretty large walls of text that might clog up the thread a little, so I think that notes and spoilers work better.

Anyway, TLDR; How are we feeling about the pacing of the game? Little slow? Perfect? Would you rather I keep using notes rather than spoilers? Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a big fan of the spoiler system, especially for information. You can always put up spoilers for 15+, 20+, 25+ results of a check which can speed up info exchange.

Pacing is good so far from what I can see. Combat will settle out as people get more comfortable with their kit and the flow of big party combat. The one spot that may have some adjustment needed is if we end up fighting hordes of creatures where we could reasonably be killing things with just Kuz punching them. Mainly to keep us from all hitting a thing that has been dead 15 character actions ago. :)
