Basra: You don't recall anything about the area you're in currently but you do recall a Count Strahd that lived and conquered the areas surrounding about 400 years ago up until his apparent disappearance. Castle Ravenloft is a castle that he is told to have built but it was lost in history.

Ismark looks thouroghly confused at your statement. Kolyan is my father and the Burgomaster but he would never incite anyone to come here. How did you receive this request?
Apr 28, 2018 10:29 pm
"We were approached in a small town a few days travel away from a gypsy sent by the Burgomaster. We were given a sealed letter from your fathers hand, with the crest saying that the love of his life has been afflicted with some sort of evil and promises all that he has, some large fortune, for those who will rid her of the evil. We are those people, and yet this foul town has already taken the life of one of our party."
OOC:
Does anybody have the letter? We never said who had it after we were asking around the bar.

OOC:
For convenience, lets say Ryn has the letter. Would you like to hand it to him?
Apr 28, 2018 11:50 pm
Ryn reaches into his pack and hands the letter to the man. "Do you recognize this handwriting and signature?" Ryn watches the man when he shows him the letter.

Ismark looks at the letter. This is my fathers name but he did not write it. You have been deceived, friends, as most strangers who come here to Barovia. Deceived by the Devil Strahd. Ismark has a solemn and genuine look of concern on his face. I am sorry for your friend. What claimed him here, if it is alright for me to ask? Was it the wolves that stalk the streets?
Apr 29, 2018 1:16 am
Ryn looked at the man intently... "Wolves are trouble, but what felled our companion was pure evil itself. On our way into town, we were stopped by two small children who claimed their sibling was left alone with a monster. Those children turned out to be ghosts, apparitions, or worse and only left when we found and properly buried their bodies. We went back in to try to find the body of the babe that was left alone, but the house fought us. Venturing into the basement we came upon a foul cult that worshiped some sort of large creature that was far to powerful for us to take on. As we tried to leave to let the authorities know, the house itself attacked us. In the short amount of time that we were exploring, the well made house became filled with rot and decay, death itself. A sick putrid smoke filled the house, and the walls themselves moved and breathed as if alive. Doors turned into spinning blades and chants of death filled the air. We thought we had all escaped, but the last in line, was dropped and taken by a swarm of rats. The house sealed itself, and wouldn't allow us to save him. That form of evil couldn't stand, so I razed the building to the ground with fire. The house is no more. We have no idea what sort of place this is, but I do not give in when evil is around." Ryn leans back into his chair, looking at the rough table top, as he contemplates their predicament.

Ismark, can we meet your father? I would love to help your sister. We could use some better gear, if you can help us get that, too.

Wil takes a drink and wonders what foul things await the group.

"By the Gods, Ryn! That is awful! It really is too bad that I was away and couldn't help before, but I am here now and will aid you all to the best of my abilities to end this evil." Basra says, gripping Ryns shoulder. "May I see this letter as well?"

Basra reads the letter and hands it back.

OOC:
The letter is in the beginning of the Timeline.
Ismark listens to the story. What you found was the Death House. It's been there for longer than the Devil Strahd and has been burned to the ground many times. The dark spirits that live within keep building it up and luring more innocent souls in. I have also lost somebody recently. My father passed 3 days ago. Ismark's lower lip tightens as he answers Wil. It is good to know you will accompany me but I cannot provide you with any new gear. Or anything, for that matter, as I have very little to give. He then realizes something. I'm sorry, I have not asked your names. I seem to have forgotten my manners amid such dark times.

Of course! I’m Wil Kingsburrow, and this is Ryn he points to Ryn , Greymond, he points to the dwarf, and this is Basra, who has just joined us.
Apr 29, 2018 4:42 am
"Greetings, friend." Basra nods his head. "When were you expecting to leave if you found an escort?"
Apr 29, 2018 4:57 am
Greetings. As soon as possible but people have been too afraid to help. You can stay for the night in the Burgomaster's mansion and we can leave tomorrow, if that would be suitable. In truth, any time would be alright provided that its soon.
Apr 29, 2018 6:34 am
What of purchasing wares? I need to replenish my arrows, at the very least.
Apr 29, 2018 1:19 pm
You can try across the square at Bildrath's but he is miserly, dreadful man and his prices take advantage of the neediness of our citizens. If you could get anything in this town any other way, it would be better.
Apr 29, 2018 2:22 pm
Any private citizens with weapon-making skills that we may employ directly?
Apr 29, 2018 3:33 pm
Not that I know of.
Apr 29, 2018 3:45 pm
"Wil, if need be you can have my crossbow and bolts, I have little need of it at the moment. Ismark, have there been others brought here by the gypsies? If they are in league with this evil fiend then they need to be brought to justice. If the streets are filled with other deadly creatures, perhaps we should retire to the mansion and finish our conversation there before the hour gets to late."
Apr 29, 2018 4:19 pm
I would not speak so loudly, Mr. Ryn, as there are three behind you. To cross a VIstana is to open yourself to deadly curses. Follow me to the mansion and we can discuss it at length. Ismark says, hushed, as he gets up and walks toward the tavern door.
Apr 29, 2018 4:52 pm
As they are walking to the mansion Basra says to will, "I Will share my bolts too if you wish, Wil."
